It's good to know that the latest Thai government is suggesting serious steps to regain foreign tourists. It will be interesting to see if they follow through. I wonder if the private sector, such as the hotels, will cooperate. But based on the article it seems as if at least someone in the tourism ministry sees the wisdom of reduced profits rather than empty airline seats and empty hotel rooms. Now, let's see if the government also decides to recommend half price drinks and forfeiture of off fees at the gay venues . . .

You are correct. Usually, if someone posts something in the wrong forum I just move it to the correct one. If you can't find a thread you started, it hasn't necessarily been deleted. It probably was simply moved to the forum at which it belongs.

The same applies to one way streets. It's one way, all right . . . my way. I have never seen anyone fined or even stopped for going the wrong way on a one way street, running traffic lights, jumping traffic lights, running stop signs (although there are not many of those), or much of anything else within cities. The only time I ever see city police doing anything is when they stop the helmetless motorcycle drivers or set up road blocks. Other than that, it's a free-for-all.

I have a car and I wouldn't want to be without one, but Bangkok is a different story. Whenever I drive to Bangkok, I park the car and rely on public transportation most of the time. Driving in Bangkok is a nightmare even on the best days.

Would you care to elaborate as to what's going on? Why don't you hire your own attorney or at least consult a competent Thai attorney? In legal matters I would not recommend relying upon responses you will receive on a message board.

LOS ANGELES, California (CNN) -- Actor Ricardo Montalban, star of the hit TV series "Fantasy Island," died Wednesday in Los Angeles, a family spokesman said. Montalban, 88, was in deteriorating health over the past several days but "died peacefully" at 6:30 a.m. at his home, son-in-law Gilbert Smith said. He understood "it was his time," Smith said. The cause of death was not given. Montalban rose to prominence as one of the most visible Hispanic actors in post-war Hollywood in the 1950s and 1960s. But his star grew as he took on television roles as the mysterious host Mr. Roarke on the hit drama "Fantasy Island" and as Captain Kirk's arch nemesis Khan Noonien Singh in "Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan." Born in Mexico City, Mexico, on November 25, 1920, Montalban knew at an early age that he wanted to be an actor. He moved to Hollywood as a teenager, and his first big break came when he was cast in a small part in a 1941 play, Tallulah Bankhead's "Her Cardboard Lover." After starring in 13 Spanish-language films in Mexico, Montalban made his American feature film debut in 1947 in "Fiesta." Montalban became a member of the MGM stable and was often cast in the role of the steamy Latin lover opposite such female stars as Lana Turner and Esther Williams. While working on "Across the Wide Missouri" with MGM's biggest star, Clark Gable, Montalban suffered an injury to his spinal cord that, despite surgery, would plague him for decades to come, according to Turner Classic Movies. That's one of the things I like about Thailand. If they're not enforced, then there's no such thing as rules. Just make up your own. If what we make up causes problems for the rest of the people trying to drive, who cares? That's the way it seems to be.

Why not re-create the same poll right here and see what results we get? I've added the same poll, with two slight modifications. One is "I don't like lady boys" and the other is "Other (please specify)" for those whose answer is not covered by the questions. My own choice was "Other (please specify)." That's because I like boys just slightly on the fem side, but not overtly so, such as the typical lady boy is likely to be.

That's in the eye of the beholder. You don't really believe you're going to get people to agree on a question like that, do you? Why are you singling out only those two grocery stores? There is also Food Mart, Foodland, Big-C, Lotus, Best, Carrefour, and Villa Market. Both Foodland and Villa Market are open 24 hours a day as well as the small Lotus just off Sukhumvit at the location of the Bangkok Bank, just north of Central Road (Pattaya Klang). Every one of these stores carry some items you don't find elsewhere. Some are more expensive than other stores and some are less expensive. Usually the price difference is negligible. Then, of course, you have the Thai open air markets. Do you ever shop at those? Often the quality is better than you find in grocery stores and they'll have items you can't find in grocery stores at all.

Apparently that works with Vista, but I have Windows XP. There is no "System and security" on the control panel. There is "system," but if there is anything that tells me whether I have a 32 bit or 64 bit system, it's very well hidden. I can't find anything.

Of course not. Most people only call the police is there has been an accident, someone has been injured, a violent crime is taking place, or because of something that directly affects themselves.

The only thing mind boggling about it to me is the fact that merely 10% turned out to be idiots. Usually the number of idiots is a much higher number.

Here we go again. A thread that began as an announcement about a demonstration in Bangkok is now a thread debating about Israel and Gaza. That's why the thread has been moved to the "Beer Bar" forum.

I'm beginning to agree with Lvdkeyes. This thread started off as a thread about smoking in bars and scofflaw bars ignoring the rules. Now the thread is degenerating into arguments that are getting more and more absurd. I think everyone has made his point. At this time I'm stepping in as moderator and asking that this thread remain on the subject of smoking in Pattaya bars. If we're really going to get off the subject and onto these tangents, that's when I'm going to lock the thread and ask that you continue the discussion on the "Beer Bar" forum. On the "Beer Bar" forum you can discuss whatever you like ad nauseum. On this forum, the subject is supposed to have something to do with Thailand, at least remotely. A discussion of perfumes, barbecue grilling, and exhaust fumes has nothing to do with the subject of this thread or with Thailand. So please . . . let's get back to the subject at hand. If you wish to start chatting about perfumes, barbecue grilling, and exhaust fumes, then please open a thread on the "Beer Bar" forum, where that sort of discussion belongs.

I took a look, but didn't download it for two reasons. One is because it expired in August, which means you would be forced to either buy it or re-install whatever version of Windows you had been previously using. The second reason is that it gives you a choice of downloading either a 32 bit or 64 bit version of it. I couldn't find an explanation and I don't know enough about computers to have any idea as to which version to download and try. I suppose a third reason might be because I already have enough troubles with so-called stable versions of Windows. They recommend installing it on a second computer that won't be a big deal if things start crashing. In other words, I'm reluctant to try it.
