I rush to say that while I can use a computer, tablet, different Google products I'm hopelessly lost with phones. I live in the US and have a Verizon phone plan. For trips abroad, they have a program that charges $10 a day for each day you use the phone when in covered countries. For short trips to the Caribbean, this is fine. But, for three weeks in Thailand, it will be several hundred dollars. I've read things about buying a cheap Thai Phone and using phone cards or getting a sim card. Can someone explain this in the simplest terms?

To be fair, Moonlight has a cover charge and I would never try to get in without paying that. I was talking about the average go-go bar. I agree with z909, but it isn't even the cost of the drink it's the waste of time. I see a few guys who I would never conceivably off and I say " sorry" and leave. Don't sit, don't stare just look and leave. To give an example going to a restaurant, not sitting down, just asking to see the menu and declining to be seated is the same thing, the food on offer or the lads on offer are not to my taste so I leave. It's fair and simple. If there are a lot of guys, I sit, buy a drink and consider.

My Hero Gay Massage in Bangkok - Review from Dec 16, 2018
paborn replied to TotallyOz's topic in Gay Thailand
What time was Bangkok massage open? -
In a few weeks, I follow in your footsteps and I want to thank you for these well balanced, concise evaluations.
-
A boy giving a message is, by definition, a message boy. However, when you just say massage boy I thought you were referring to going to one of the man to man massage places and arranging for the massage guy to visit your hotel. Some guys on the apps aren't money boys. Just gay guys looking to hook up. I'm not disparaging either way of meeting but, if you were happy with a massage place I was going to ask which one.
-
OK, so not a massage boy hired from a massage house but a money boy who gives massages. I'm not criticizing just clarifying.
-
So, where are you finding the massage boy who goes off?
-
Londoner, again you're very right. But, why not - if we were dating in the classic sense we would have the same mixed experiences. Why not here?
-
I totally agree, I just like pointing out the "overrated" part. Pick a guy with your eyes wide open, sit with him long enough to make a decent judgment on your rapport and you are as likely to get a good off in Screw Boys or ANY other bar as in Moonlight. Frankly, the slightly more desperate guy who does not command so high a price is more likely IMHO to be good for you than Mr, so and so Model.
-
Londoner, that is my experience exactly. Over the years I've flown every way possible. Several times I used the now defunct Thai New York express polar route - nonstop to Bangkok and back. Nothing ever made any difference to my jet lag. Even when I think I'm fine I find that I've paid some bills twice and skipped others. I've learned to lay things out like a child with special needs and just assume I'm screwed for a couple of weeks on my return.

I was, for many years, a T&E consultant and while I never worked for an airline I studied at the Lufthansa fare international rate school and know my way around the airline tariffs. It's not so much that the fares aren't available but they are hard to tie down. You see, if I wanted to find the lowest fare I would, using an airline or agent computer, pull up the tariff tables and read the fare rules. To be real short about it there might be a very low fare that is to leave on tuesday and come back on a Wednesday staying over at least one Saturday. The booking sites have to translate this into a simple point and click, you come back on a Monday even if away three weeks and you break the above fare example. So, it won't come up. That is the value that I see in google flights with the calendar as a starting point. As complicated as airfares are and believe me they are it is amazing what the sites are able to do. Perhaps, we start with a call to an airline and for information and never book with them, saving that fee.
-
So, in summation, you spent a lot less money and had a vastly better time with an "ordinary" boy than with one of the hyped up models. Correct?
-
Yes, and if my flight time were only 12 hours I would not even discuss it. My door to door is more like 30. There is Jetlag - call it what you like.
-
Gerefan, that "sleeping it off" is a jetlag strategy it is allowing your body clock to reset to the time zone.

Actually, I knew that; "pale" is old English for a settlement or settled area ( see Pale of settlement for eastern Poland where Jews were allowed to live ) the Dublin was, in English eyes, the only civilized area of Ireland - thus the rest of the people were " beyond the pale" - my apologies for a clumsy joke. I'm not English but I couldn't resist a slight poke at an Irishman who "parties all night" and sleeps all day - what would the English say?
-
I've heard from countless sources over the years that the mango sticky rice in the restaurant at Jim Thompson's is the very best.

I think we should look at this idea of a "quota" as what it is: business. Take a call center and from long experience, you know the average worker handles x num er of calls a day. Come review time x is the norm and less than X is bad and more than X is a better review. This is not a quota it's a way to evaluate performance in a transactional environment. If you're reality-based you must understand that the bar knows which guys get the most off's, the most drinks, draw in people, etc. Of course, you pay them better and they make out better - it's a simple business matrix. Of course, they're told to push for drinks and bring people in. I'm sure the managers are rewarded for higher profits. Why would anyone expect a difference? just a savvy businessman who sees the potential in Moonlight and trying to run things properly. Happy boys, happy punters and all that.

Thailand has overtaken Russia and India as the most unequal country
paborn replied to Jasper's topic in The Beer Bar
Hutch... I see it differently even in the poorest nations there is a tiny group, often vastly rich, who live as if on a different planet. -
Forky123, may ask your flight time - it makes a difference in evaluating the approach for others.
-
Hank, Finally someone has given me a reason to go to Moonlight. I have no interest in the muscle builder type but if the "floor boys" are nice looking, toned guys, who are treated well in a good environment I have to put it on my list.
-
Exactly where is this ignore button you speak of?
-
I'm addicted to two Vietnamese foods - pho and Banh MI ( the bread alone is to die for - ( Vinapu before you ask it'sd an old Brooklyn NYC saying ) does anyone have some places in the Silom/Suriwongse area? I've heard about a few but I'm interested in opinions.
-
A pale Irishman! so that's what the English meant by "beyond the pale"

Thanks, Hank, I wish the location were clearer but it sounds terrific. The best Pad Thai I ever had was in Chatuchak market - God knows where as I never found it again.
