Mid May, I planned a short visit to Bangkok after a business trip. Thailand Pass was easy to get, even if converting all pdf’s into jpeg made me waste some time. I’m a big fan of the Raya hotel on Surawong road, so I booked the Executive Suite on the top floor. It was a bargain for such a nice room : 2400 baht per night. I took a night flight from Europe, so I arrived in the afternoon local time. Passing immigration was very fast, so after buying a local sim card, I took a taxi to the hotel. Day 1 : start with a massage and visit the bars I prefer to start all my trips with a nice massage, so I went to Silom Soi 6 where you now have several shops next to each other. I think all shops offer the same services, so it is best to take the masseur you like most. I selected a Thai masseur from Natural Massage. Very good massage skills and very willing to earn an extra tip. I left very happy, to have dinner in La Dotta, a nice Italian restaurant on Convent Road. In the evening I wanted to visit all the bars. I started with The New Twilight. I see 2 problems with the bar: location and clothing. The first one is the location: easy to find for regular visitors of the bar scene, but totally impossible to find for newcomers. The boys were wearing some kind of uniform: jeans, blue shirt and white sneakers. Well, not really a uniform as all had different ones. In other bars, boys are shirtless now. About 10 boys on stage, average looking. Not so many customers, but they had one beside me who ordered bottle of alcohol and was pampered by the staff. When you've visited Patpong bars, it is worth a visit, but not top priority. I liked Golden Cock, but this bar does no longer exist and the small bar at the other side of the street doesn’t appeal to me. I would have loved to go to Lucky Boys, which was my favorite during my 2020 trip, but that bar remains also closed. So I visit the other bars in the neighborhood : Dream Boy, Fresh Boys and Hotmale. The show at Dream Boy is boring, as the level is far below it used to be before covid. Decent selection of boys in all 3 bars. Drink price 350 baht, except Hotmale where I paid 400. Returning to my room after midnight, I noticed front door of Raya is locked, so you have to take the elevator in the inside parking lot.

My absolute favorite is Poseidon restaurant in the Jomtien Complex. Chef Bart from The Netherlands knows how to cook a delicious meal.

After not being in Asia for over 2 years, I planned a trip to Cambodia during Songkran. As there are no direct flights between Europe and Cambodia, I opted for Thai Airways to get there and Singapore Airways to return home. Transfer passengers in Bangkok still need PCR test 72 hours before departure, so I did one, which unfortunately was positive 😭 Luckily I have only mild symptoms, comparable with a flu. Singapore Airways already refunded my plane ticket. I don't expect the same from Thai Airways. Booking for the resort in Cambodia already changed to April 2023. Unfortunately, no trip report to be provided right now.

Today, I went to Thailand for about 30 minutes ... at the World Expo in Dubai. Maybe I am not unbiased, but they have one of the best pavilions. I suppose this doesn't count??? Anyway, thank you very much vinapu for your reports.

I have no problem doing a PCR-test in my own country just before departure, but I don't want to risk to have a positive test at arrival in any other country in the world. So I'll wait a bit (or a lot) longer to visit Thailand again.

I'll come back when number of days in quarantaine has been reduced to .... 0. On average, I stay for one week, so 7 days of quarantaine is not an option at all for me.

From all the restaurants I've been to in Pattaya, Poseidon is the best and I've returned several times each trip. Their special evenings, like the gourmet and the 16-dishes dinner, were always fully booked. During my last trip, I even stayed in the Poseidon Residenceabove the restaurant. But I prefer Agate hotel. Chef Bart is from The Netherlands and has a mix of European and Asian kitchen. Delicious!

I like the bars and hope to be back in Bangkok and Pattaya next year. You are never sure what you get when inviting a boy from an app. I feel more safe taking a boy from a bar, even if some of the mamasans are too pushy, especially for someone like me who often likes to watch for a long time before making a decision.

I've stayed in Agate and Zing, but prefer the Poseidon Residence and Wine Cellar, the hotel with the best restaurant in the Jomtien Complex. The owner of the hotel is from Germany, the chef of the restaurant from The Netherlands, so you are sure of European quality.

In my country, people are on temporary unemployment during lockdown and the government pays 70% of the salary. When they return to their job, they still will have all days of their annual leave. Even if they return only in September, which will be the case for some people.

It certainly will take some time before tourism will start again. However, Bangkok and Pattaya will recover.Keep in mind that all infrastructure, like hotels and roads, is still there. That's the big difference with a war.

End of April update My all time favorite Viro contacted me on Facebook. He asked for money as he had a motorcycle accident in Cambodia and didn't wear a helmet. He knew perfectly well from previous attemps 2 years ago that I don't give money between meetings. He must be desperate. As I'm aware that coronacrisis is hitting hard on everyone, I decided to make an exception and have given him some money. I hope he will not try to ask more money soon.

I hope so, but I prefer them to be shirtless already when entering a bar. If I want boys to wear a shirt, I go to Jomtien Complex.

I never had any luck in Nature Boys. Most often only 2 boys, so not worth going in and buying a drink. You can find more boys in Super A in the same soi. The older ones shirtless, the younger ones in street clothes and very concentrated on their mobile phones. Anyone been there in the last year?

I don't remember if there were other customers. Maybe one or two, as it is never very crowded. But I don't mind that, as long as every customer has a different selection of boys. I don't mind other clients next to me. It could even add up to the fun. In a sauna, you also have others close to you. What hot action happened with three of the boys? Well, it started completely innocent with buying a drink for them, like in any other bar in LOS. Drinks in Golden Cock are very cheap compared to other bars. After that, some kissing. As my business is now closed already for 6 weeks due to Covid-19, I am getting bored and take some time to write a report about my latest trip to LOS. During winter, some take a shortski for a long weekend. I don’t like that, so I have booked a 5 day 4 nights trip to Bangkok at the end of January: leaving on Thursday evening after office hours, taking an overnight flight to BKK arriving on Friday afternoon and leaving Tuesday morning and be home on Tuesday evening. Back in the office on Wednesday morning, only missing 3 work days. As I only have a direct flight with Thai leaving at noon and arriving at 6 AM in BKK, I had to take a connecting flight. Last year, I used Aeroflot through Moscow, but this time Finnair was the cheapest, only 505 EUR. The day before departure, I got an email from Finnair that my flight was overbooked and offering compensation for voluntary denied boarding. Didn’t react to it, as I was not sure which leg of my flight was overbooked. After my first flight to Helsinki, I got the same email for the second time. Looked at the departures in Helsinki and noticed there was a Finnair flight to Moscow, which would give a nice connection to the Aeroflot flight to BKK I used last year. Arrival difference in BKK was about 3 hours, and I would still have my full first evening. I volunteered, and had to choose between 300 EUR cashback on my credit card or a flight voucher of 500 EUR. Hesitated a bit, but choose the 500 EUR flight voucher valid for 1 year. 3 hours less in BKK, but probably my next trip for free… Friday evening As usual, I have booked a suite on the top floor of the Raya Surawong hotel. I really like that hotel and all the boys know it. It is so sad to see Soi Twilight closed, but I’m up to discovering the new bars. But first, I decide to go to Golden Cock bar. I am lucky and get into some hot action with 3 of the boys. I really like that they are so open to each other. I left happy and gave a nice tip to the 3 boys. Afterwards, I visited Lucky Boys, which I really like. Even when crowded, it feels like you have enough air to breed, as it has many seats and a very high ceiling. Mamasan from X-boys recognized me immediately. It is really a “supermarket of boys” as so many cute guys are on stage. Had a drink, watched a show, selected a boy and we went back to my hotel room. Boy was from Cambodia, would do everything and kept that promise. Gave him a well deserved tip when saying goodbye and added him on my Facebook. I stayed in bed and had nice dreams…
