In stead he finds himself dragged from bar to bar and only then the hotel and then being paid off with 2000 baht because money wasn't discussed, so he can't complain ? Thanks to this thread I am looking for some gay Thailand books and I see a 'Twilight Soi' book from a guy named Stapleton. Looks promising. It is fairly recently. On Amazon.de you can read the introduction. I wonder how true it all is. He writes "any tourist entering X-size has a high chance of being robbed". The book is from 2011. Sounds trustworthy? I never had issues in that bar. But maybe in 2011 this was the case?

The author must wonder why suddenly his book sells so good on Amazon. I doubt he sells much in a week and now in one day a few. If he is a member he will know the reason.

See women visit prostitutes too. I wonder if women fall for the same type of boys as most gay farang. According to one of the polls here the twink lovers among us are in the majority. My guess is women fall more for the muscled men.

I can't remember seeing that in October but I was mostly near The Venue area because it is more crowded there than at the Poseidon end of the soi. I do think there is a very small cabaret show opposite Poseidon, I remember seeing that last year, is that one of the two you mean?

You must have seen quite some changes happening to Bangkok. Was the gay area also in Silom back then? Was the traffic also as chaotic as it is now? I assume it all felt far less crowded than it does now? Where there already many high rise buildings and a layout that doesnt look planned at all to me. It is utter chaos. You can see that in Google maps, you can't make any sense of it. I think back then Thailand was much poorer, how did this reflect/show in Bangkok in 1982? What was the short time price? Which bars from 1982 do still exists now? Did you need a visa in 1982 or like now we could just enter and get a stamp? No need to arrange beforehand a visa? I would love if some long time travellers wrote down how it was like so long ago. The boys you had sex with in 1982 are now around 60 year old!

Never ever experienced anything bad or strange stares. I have taken a boy to Cambodia (Siem Reap), Singapore, Japan (Tokyo) and Russia (Moscow). The number of options is limited because for most countries Thai need a visa, so I picked countries for which they don't need it. Only in the last country (Russia) I was a bit worried. So I told him to not act too feminine and during the Moscow trip I also said "when people ask we will say you are the brother of my wife and you wanted to see Moscow". I also took care for the Moscow trip we had one room with 2 beds. Just to be sure. But for the other 3 countries we walked hand in hand and no strange stares at all (maybe also because I am in my 40s and many Asians say I look younger, so it is maybe less weird then if a 75 year old would do it). Also nothing strange in Moscow but there we didn't show it, just as a pre-caution.

I have only done it 4 times with one boy who was my boyfriend (more or less; I mean I am a total butterfly) back then. I see it as a holiday with expenses covered but I gave him a one time payment during or after the trip. Maybe on average 2000 baht for a complete day. I only do 3 to 4 days short city trips. You know what is a status booster for them? Take them a few days to Singapore, Tokyo, Seoul, or Moscow for a city trip. Thais don't need a visa for these places (countries). They love to show of with Facebook live video to their friends they are not in Thailand. I have a few times taken a boy to another country.

Yes. Please someone go into a gogo bar (preferably a few, so we have more data points) and report average number of customers. I was alone in October. Which indeed is very uncomfortable. I hope this thread leads to a good picture about the true difference between high and low season. If high season means you have on average 3 custokers in a gogo bar compared with 1 in low season, then it feels for me like not that much different with low season. But if high season has on average like 10 or more then it starts to feel very different. And then most likely choice of boys also much higher. And better.

And in low season I am often the only customer in a gogo bar. How many customers now in Boyztown's and Sunee's gogo bars on an average visit?

Since I have only been 1 time in Thailand during high season and all my other travels in the March and October months (which count officially as low season) I am very curious how crowded Sunee and Boyztown are this very moment? Many farang visitors? The bars have a good amount of customers? Sunee was mid-October quite deserted, how is it now?

I mean in that 30 minutes time frame you kiss a few times. You feel his body. Then 100 baht seems low to me. But if this is the going rate I will adjust to it. Saves me some money. Just never sure about gogo bar tips. It are also bars I feel least comfortable.

And for how long? Seems low amount if you have him with you for 30 minutes. And kissing him 30 minutes etc.

For me the expected tips are known and I gave you my list above. But for one tip I always am in doubt: in a gogo bar when you take a boy to sit with you and order him a drink. Then you will chat with him, kiss him, feel him. What do you tip him then and how long on aversge you let him sit with you for that tip? For me it is about 300 baht for about 15 minutes sitting. But what do others do? I am least secure in this area about what is good practice.

I agree. I think such behavior is very asocial in my moral landscape.
