I recommend a couple of the boutique shops that are outside the Central Business District. I think they are more discreet and might also just be a nicer spot to relax and enjoy the experience., without worrying about shared showers or who you might see or who might see you. For these purposes tops on my list would be Leo Spa. http://www.leo-spa.com It's easy to get to by taxi (or even a walk or moccy from BTS Ari). It's a nice townhouse on a quiet side street where you are unliely to bump into anyone. You would pick your guy based on the picture and description and book ahead. All very professional and private. I recommend the guys who give "very good massages" ("นวดดีมาก") over the ones listed as giving just "good massages" ("นวดดี") Nine would be another similar type spot http://ninemenspa.com The townhouse is also easy to find on the map but of course there's no sign that makes obvious what goes on there. (Same is true of Leo.) These would be the places that I recommend because they easy to book (with pictures) and a bit out of the way and quite discreet. If you want to pick from a lineup then that puts you more into the brothel category Prince/VCK/Arena/Bonny/Bangkok. Those places of course you have to make the judgment on discretion/anxiety.

I think its good that you gave them the feedback.

Recommendations on the best massages in Bangkok...
DivineMadman replied to Badboy81's topic in Gay Thailand
I agree with vinapu and pong that the a 1,000 per hour or higher "minimum tip" should include full on sex (if that's what you want). Because I almost always go with 90 minute massages, I usually end up paying 1500. My usual tip at the legit (or mostly legit spots) like Prime is 300-500 - no happy ending expected or necessarily even wanted. (A man needs his rest.) That would be what I tip for a 90+/- minute thai massage or 2 hour combo of foot and thai massage. Where there's no stated minimum, 600-900 (or even 1,000) for HJ/BJ depending enthusiasm and skill. That would typically be for a 90 minute oil massage. We all have different views on this sort of thing, but because I spend a chunk of time in BKK I do consider tipping on the higher end for good service an investment in the excellent service i get on repeat visits. I am as subject to confirmation bias as anyone else, but it does seem to work for me. -
thanks for the reports!

My two cents: Best bet might be to give the two spots on Soi Twilight (Bonny and Bangkok) a quick walk-by. There might be a few twinks there. But one man's twink might be another man's swimmer's build. Banana Club usually has a range of all types, but I wasn't particularly impressed with the selection the last time i was there, and beware there are a few reports of theft from the lockers. The legit downstairs foot massages are fantastic. I think there are some cuter twinkier types at Urban Male, but it is on the pricey side. Depending on when you go there might be 10 guys available, of whom 2-3 might be twinks, but then they may not be your particular type. so no guarantees. http://urbanmalemassage.com Further afield White House Spa has some. You can check out their photos and book using Facebook. https://www.facebook.com/whitehousespa/ Some of the smaller shops around town, like The Bridge at Saphan Kwai will probably have some twinks. I haven't been there in a while. Pretty much catch-as-can. And more likely to be just a negotiated happy ending. If you find someplace do let us know!

I think it is absolutely fair for you to make clear at the bar with the guy and the mamasan that if he doesn't bottom then no tip. You can even say you've had bad experiences before so it's very important everyone understands. plug it into google translate and show it to the guy in his local language.

Sorry to hear about the bad experience. Certainly in my experience it's not the norm for BKK or I believe Screwboys. I have a little concern that Screwboys hires some of the younger guys (19 or so) and so there might be guys who are in it to scam. It does seem that a lot of the guys from Vietnam identify as straight/top only. As Paulsf points out, they do a good business so there's clearly a very satisfied market for that. (There are also a lot of Thai, Cambodian, Burmese and other straight/top only guys as well.) There are definitely gay guys from Vietnam in BKK. Some are more or less reluctantly vers and some are true enthusiastic bottoms, trust me, but maybe they're just harder to find and might require some time to cultivate. Clearly if someone told you Bangkok had lots of cute Vietnamese bottoms they done steered you wrong. I had not heard that there were a lot in Pattaya either, but if there are then that's probably the place to go. I doubt that there was a conspiracy between the guy and the mamasan. The mamasans basically go with what the guys tell them they will and won't do, and unless the mamasan hears otherwise, that's that. If the mamasan was in cahoots with the guy then they would have quoted you the higher price up front. Sounds like your guy was a smooth operator, so he could just as well have been playing the mamasan as he tried to play you. I am in the camp that has not had a negative experience with guys from Vietnam - or put affirmatively, I've had great experiences with guys from Vietnam I've off'd, travelled with or had massages from. But for me the country they're from is just something interesting to talk with them about. Fortunately I find guys from all over the region attractive.

Welcome to BKK. For people with stair issues, The Prince on Suan Plu Soi 6 is basically all on one level, and no real stairs to speak of. Unfortunately it's not for twink lovers. http://theprincebkk.com. The divine (and expensive) Spa Bangkok has a VIP room on the entry level that you could reserve. It's not so much a boom-boom house as the others, but the massages are first rate and you should leave happy (or at least I always do). https://spabangkok.net/silom/ They are very responsive on Line during business hours. Line ID: SpaBangkok. The more basic "Best Massage" I think has a room on the ground floor, not 100% sure. Best Massage has some twinkler types. Spa Bangkok and Best massage are both on the ground floor of the Silom Plaza. Same building as Arena. Map is on the Spa Bangkok website. Spa Sathorn also has no stairs, but might be a bit out of the way and run down for a first visit to BKK. Those are the ones that pop into my mind.

Had a great massage at Nine Spa. http://ninemenspa.com It's boutique massage shop near Asoke. There are usually about 10 guys available who work there, but typical for shops like this, if you just walk in there might be only a few available (or you might have to wait a bit). The best way to go there is to book ahead. I found the shop very responsive and easy to work with with via Line. Line ID @NINESPA. They regularly posts pictures of who is currently working there, so it's easy to pick and reserve the guy you want. The facilities are nice -- a converted townhouse on a quiet side street just a few minutes walk from the chaos of Soi Cowboy. The map on the website is accurate, and it even has a picture of the front of the building, which is helpful. Around 8:00 there was no real traffic on the neighboring side sois. Easy for a taxi to navigate or moccy. Massage is on a very large massage table with face cutout. Stairs are involved, in case that matters. 700 for a 90 minute oil massage. Minimum tip is 1,000 baht. My massage was truly fantastic. It was a firm swedish/sports massage, not so much a Wat Pho stretchy massage. Special services were also great. I've had the same masseur many times before, and it's of course extra-nice when there's a bit of chemistry between client and masseur. Shower alone before, Masseur naked throughout massage. Shower together after, when I got a thorough and affectionate cleaning to get off all that massageoil -- reminded me of a young mahout washing a prized elephant. Sum up: --Probably not a shop for twink lovers, but for others very highly recommend. --If you don't want to pick based on photos, somewhat upscale boutique shops like Nine, Baantewa and Leo are not for you, but beware you might be missing something pretty good. ;} But that's ok. --Book ahead. --Nine Spa is up there in the same top-rated league as Baantewa and Leo Spa.

you can of course legitimately question else majesty laws. But that's not what you did. In THIS thread, which was respectful, you, for whatever reason, decided to toss out the idea that the spectacle was a waste of money, as in another thread you said that you "firmly believed" that the this sort of thing was "patronizing" and "disrespectful" of the deceased. For the life of me, I have no clue why you felt compelled to raise the comment about the ceremony, but you did. So that is why in THIS thread I pointed out that in other contexts you have no problem respecting other people's decisions with respect to their financial decisions, so maybe, just maybe, suspend the cynicism about the ceremony for a beloved monarch. As this is a website that has Thai readers and many long-term Thai residents, and many other people who just care, I think it was perfectly appropriate for me to point out that -- maybe you might not have realized it -- but that comment is deeply offensive to many Thais. Of course you can doubt the truth of that. Or you can say, gee, boy are all those Thais wrong to feel that way, but I think your comment was unnecessary, incorrect and I think it is 100% within my rights to point out that. You are free to express your opinions but I am also free to call you out on them.

I noticed on Facebook some Thai gents had expressed outrage about some westerners commenting on the cost of the Cremation Ceremony. I didn't parse it closely enough to see if it had anything to do with the Economist article. One chap posted a graphic about how much Ronald Reagan's funeral was (needless to say many multiples of the event in Thailand). Something to think about. Something else to think about, perhaps, is that you post at great length about how we should respect someone's decision on how much to tip for sex. Maybe you should show the same respect when it comes to the Thai people marking the passing of the man who was, to many many many of them, a beloved figure.

In case anyone is interested, the Foreign Correspondents Club will he having a talk Wednesday, November 1 about the Cremation Ceremony. I'm a bit crushed I'll be out of town that evening. I bet it will be a fascinating presentation. http://www.fccthai.com/items/2318.html

Finally retiring and travelling to Asia in Feb 2018
DivineMadman replied to WelshGuyUK's topic in Gay Thailand
Actual real world experience of course trumps all. I usually take my views from Ubonjoe, the resident expert over on Thai Visa, who even as recently as Tuesday said "A return or onward ticket is not required if you have a valid visa for entry." https://www.thaivisa.com/forum/topic/1008210-onward-ticket-53-days-later/?do=findComment&comment=12388295 So at least there seems to be an open question about it. As noted there's an easy no cost workaround of buying a fully-refundable ticket or get a cheap throw away ticket. Up to you if decide to do it ahead of time or at check-in if there's an issue. Somewhere there's a website that lets you tap into the database the airlines use to check these requirements. Can't find the link right now. -

If you have a visa then the airline won't inquire about your onward ticket. Put another -- and with luck more comprehensible -- way, the airlines check for an onward ticket for those without a visa. (As for the date count, you will have to exit/re-enter before the expiration of your visa, which will be 90 days from the issuance date, which will almost certainly be a bit before your departure date as you get your visa in advance, which would bring you up short of 90+30 =120 days in LOS, but of course you can go to immigration to get that "last" 30 days extended by an additional 30.) -

Congratulations. If you decide not to get a Thai Tourist Visa the usual workaround for the airline needing to see a outbound ticket is to purchase a fully refundable ticket for a flight out within the 30 day period. In addition to hotels, you might want to consider checking out AirBnB. It's easy to narrow the search to your ideal neighborhoods (Silom/Sathorn). As in all things, I would only book a place there that had previously been reviewed. Also, a lot of condo buildings have been cracking down on weekly sublets, so I would steer clear of any places that hint they are not complying with all the rules. -
The other night a friend who works at X-Boys told me that most of the Vietnamese guys had left X-Boys and it now had more Cambodian guys. He said it was because of the lack of customers, mostly because the mamasans had driven away the Chinese customers with aggressive mamasan antics. I have not tried to verify this (and won't because I boycott X-Boys after they tried to sneak in charges for drinks I never ordered). In any event, perhaps as high season approaches guys will flock back.

A quick report on a couple of massage spots in Kowloon. I recommend both spots, but highly recommend booking ahead of time as neither is particularly large and I think I was lucky that they were able to accommodate me as a walk-in. Sonata Spa http://www.sonatahk.com/?page_id=16276 I showed up about 7:00 on a Friday night with no appointment. They were able to accommodate (just barely), but having a masseur come over from their other branch, nearby Eden Spa. $HK 398 for a 90 minute "Chinese massage". Masseur was assigned. A 24-year old very handsome guy with a tight worked out body and a very nice personality (but almost no english to speak of). Shower alone before and after. Massage was good if a bit painful as the masseur decided to take on the task of working on the knots in my back. A simple but nicely done happy ending. masseur clothed throughout. Facilities are nice but the massage table (with hole for face) is very small for my 187cm height. A slight ding for the shower not really having hot water, but I think it was a temporary issue. Place is easy to find and the map on the website is accurate. Eden Spa http://www.edenspa.com.hk On a Sunday I stopped by about 6:00 and they were able to accommodate me for a 90 minute massage (but not the 2 hour massage I wanted -- because the massage rooms were already booked). 90 minutes $HK 398. Masseur assigned. 28 year old tall guy. Nice gym body. Facilities are perhaps a tad bit nicer than their sister branch Sonata. Massage was very good. 2/3rds of the way through masseur asked me if I "want body to body - 500." I think I could talked him down to 400 but didn't care, so I said yes. (I think 300-500 is about the right tip range). He promptly stripped down and coated me with oil and began the full body-to-body massage. And yes he was very happy to see me. Happy ending and all the usual. Shower alone before and after. Overall very nice job and highly recommend. Place is easy to find right near Jordan station and the map on the website is accurate.

some years ago there were a couple of cute young guys from Vietnam who worked at Scorpion Bar but were not generally offable (their choice). Certain people (ahem, Christianpfc) found this to be problematic, although I certainly don't know if that is what Christian was referring to. I believe they are no longer there, but I can't say that for sure. Personally, I think each guy working at a bar always has a choice whether to go with me or not, so the idea of someone being not "offable" doesn't bother me. Each guy simultaneously exists in a state of offable/nonoffable, and I try to appreciate the eye candy even if unavailable. But that's just me. I've happily sampled guys from all the region and not found any particular differences between guys from any particular country, but that's just my experience. I will continue to do research on this topic to the extent time, energy and funds permit.

i've been there several times (most recently a couple of years ago) and second all the favorable comments by those who have been there. It's my favorite place on earth. I'm planning on going for another trek next year. I think there is a trip for all physical abilities, but if you can and have any interest, trekking is spectacular and really a great way to get to see the country and meet people. For birders, there is an exquisite valley where the black cranes winter. Even for the non-trekker "cultural tourists" there is a lot to see and do. It's been a wild ride to be a semi-regular visitor there. When I first went they didn't have TV yet. Now you can talk with them about the latest episode of the Walking Dead. As in Tibet, historically property passed by the female line and polyandry is common, although less so in the more urban areas. It's very common to come across families where the woman married two or more brothers. All I can say is, it's interesting. The gay scene is very much on the DL, so I would strongly discourage anyone going there with the goal of hooking up, but I can confirm first hand that there is a scene and it can/does happen. It's sort of like the old line about bars in Venice -- Every bar is a gay bar if you know where to look. I can also confirm first hand that some monasteries are very active, but that's another story (and not for this board). If you go and have some input on your itinerary, of course try to go to see one of the festivals, but also try to spend some time ahead of the actual festival when the monks and locals are rehearsing. It's a fun relaxed and interesting thing to do. I had a guide on '04 who swore to me up and down that gay marriage was practiced in the monasteries and there were 2-3 guys who were selected for their particular beauty who "married" the abbott (and presumably other senior-most monks). These special beauties could be identified by their unique costumes during the festivals. I don't doubt his sincerity but take it with a grain of salt. Presumably it has something to do with tantra and I am of the general view that so much of tantra is secret much gets confused to/by outsiders and should not be considered 100% reliable. The people are wonderful. Often the food is terrible. Tell them you won't get sick and you want local food. It's must tastier than tourist food. The nicer hotels are more expensive, but can be a nice indulgence if you can afford it. Some pics just to add to Fountainhall's and fedssobr's contributions. I went back 4 years later and the old man had passed away and his grandson was off at school. To the east (past Mongar) there is a local tradition when you are leaving a village (after staying there over night) where the ladies of the village ply you with local liquor and then sing to you to entice you to stay. If you do go to the east, tell your guide you want to go "night hunting." Enjoy the reaction. School assembly Normally, the words "native dance" are among the two most terrifying in the english language, but the religious festivals (tsechus) are fun and not to be missed. The [alleged] monastery beauties. Rehearsing for upcoming tsechu. I hesitate to post this picture, but, still, wow. If you spend time there, I think you will agree that Bhutan can now claim the Land of Smiles title.

Dress code during Royal Cremation Period Oct 13-27
DivineMadman replied to floridarob's topic in Gay Thailand
I certainly disagree. I'm glad I will be in Bangkok during this period and I think the ceremonies that have been planned and the sincerity and depth of emotion shown by the Thai people over the last year is very respectful. Thailand also has a recent history of tourists behaving badly, so I think it is perfectly fine for the government and the travel industry to alert people to what is going on and the sort of behavior tourists can show to demonstrate respect for their Thai hosts. -
Dress code during Royal Cremation Period Oct 13-27
DivineMadman replied to floridarob's topic in Gay Thailand
in Bangkok there'll be some expectations that even foreigners will to conform - especially during the actual cremation ceremony days october 25-27. The gov't did advise tourists to avoid Bangkok those days. Official word still unclear, but probably expect entertainment areas to be subdued at a minimum, and maybe even closed 25-27. In the resort areas as usual more relaxed vibe, so probably best to take the government's advice and stay out of Bangkok. -
To add a gently dissenting voice, although the prices are admittedly different in BKK I've certainly never had a problem with attitudes and there are lots, and lots, and lots of gay guys.

As far as Bangkok is concerned I can confirm that Chinese customers regularly off guys from bars. There are also guys with Chinese "sponsors" sending them money -- just like there are guys with farang sponsors.
