  1. My statement might have been libelous, but it sure wasn't slanderous, Your Honor. That technicality aside, point taken!
  2. I agree, the number of wives who swallow seems amazing - at least if you're willing to believe their husbands. It might or might not be mostly wishful thinking? I wouldn't know!
  3. Exactly. As Bangkok started so late, they really could - and should - have learned from all the mistakes that had been made elsewhere. Unfortunately for all of us concerned though, they hardly leave out any mistakes that can possibly be made. Missing links, missing sky walks, missing unified ticketing - you name it, they screw it up with a "great" level of consistency.

    Tipping?

Whenever I'm in one of the poorer ASEAN capitals, I see these fat clowns driving around in their even fatter cars - I have little doubt that they're doing more damage than good, and the orphanage business in Cambodia really is a particularly disgusting example.
  5. With Thailand's sky high murder rate, most of us have probably already been in the company of a murderer, or two...

    Tipping?

Thais tend to criticize me for over tipping, but that doesn't have any effect on my tipping habits. If I'm the one who pays, I decide how much I tip, otherwise I leave it to those who are paying. I don't give any money to beggars anywhere in the world. In Bangkok in particular, a lot of the misery we are presented with is more a result of organized crime (gangs) than a dysfunctional social system. I won't support that, not even with 25 satang a pop.
  7. Now all we need on top of smart DLs is smart drivers...
  8. Difficult in what way? I just use their "classic" subdomain and that seems to still work fine.
  9. Thailand could introduce an ETA (Electronic Travel Authorization) for those short-term visitors who don't require a visa (or currently apply for a visa on arrival) and even get the questionnaire that is currently a part of the arrival card done online before these travelers depart, when the ETA enrollment takes place. That combined with APIS and automated gates, you could get rid of most stamp monkeys and retrain these clowns to do something useful for the country.
  10. Great to hear you'll be back soon! I think the Songkran circuit parties are more fun and I'm a fan of Songkran in general. Others basically hate it and that obviously makes quite a difference. For NYE, on the other hand, for me Bangkok doesn't stand out as a place to be. In fact I often escape Bangkok over New Years and go elsewhere.
  11. For what little any personal experience might be worth, from having worked with citizens of Malaysia for more than a decade, I do believe that you deserve a higher ranking than most other countries in the region. All my experiences have been great, exceeding my expectations. Singapore is even better, sure, but it also comes with a hefty price tag.
  12. I think the problem isn't so much that Thailand is a developing country, I'm sure most visitors and expats realize that. The real problem is that some developments are the exact opposite of progress. Thainess before development. The TM.6 debacle is a good example. They realized it's crap, but instead of working hard to scrap that obsolete nonsense altogether, they had it redesigned. The new design might actually be worse than the existing one in terms of practicability - I guess we will see soon.
  13. I can see the humor in that, a447a, but bringing up that same old topic (as it were) time and again still gets boring. Also, stalking another member isn't really a laughing matter - as he's been given permission to be a member here, he should be entitled to the usual protection against attacks by other members.
  14. What else is new? I'm surprised he even got Ovaltine in his childhood, growing up in Japan and all. Maybe it was soy sauce-flavored? KitKat comes in many local flavors in Japan (https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kit_Kats_in_Japan), but I've got no idea about Ovaltine to be honest...
  15. You're cracking me up! You clearly had no clue whatsoever when you made your first statement, in fact you literally wrote, "I had to google Mrs Danvers". If you had kept your silence, you would have stayed a philosopher. (Would look better in Latin, but to save you some googling this time around...)
  16. Your troll hunt is getting beyond tedious, THAT was my point. You don't have to bring up (what you think is) sglad's age each and every time he makes a comment. Also, you seem to be walking on particularly thin ice here. Those of us who have enjoyed a decent education read the works of countless authors that had been dead for decades or even centuries in our high school years. Knowing a fictional character from a novel written in the 1930s doesn't indicate that you were around back then, that's just silly.
  17. So a447a, I think your quote is rather uninspired, considering that it was very obviously the previous poster's forum handle "DeWinter" that prompted sglad's question. If you must quote Wikipedia: "Danvers is the head housekeeper at Manderley, the stately manor belonging to the wealthy Maximillian 'Maxim' de Winter". Maybe you should stick to reporting cock sizes.
  18. I've enjoyed most of my trips to the countryside to visit Thai friends. After a few days, it's usually quite enough for me, but a little adventure every once in a while is fun. A Bangkok mono diet would get boring at some point. I'd jump at the chance to visit someone in a Burmese village, so far that hasn't happened yet...
  19. I think you definitely should!
  20. I would love to see those numbers, too, but I think there's little chance they will ever see the light of the day. What puzzles me most is that it was a Thai who bought the majority share in Stick's website (or so he wants us to believe, I have to take his word for it). If I were a Thai, the only reason for me to buy that site would be to bury it. Unless the returns are crazily high - very unlikely!
  21. Like Phoenix he will rise from the ashes - would be my guess.
  22. That excuse is as good as any! Cheers!
  23. I'm not convinced yet. He could have simply said his goodbyes, if that had been his intention. Hinting at the possibility that a miracle might happen sounds a lot like he's "motivating" people to make it happen. Maybe his plan is to bring in another investor and to get rid of the current majority owner. That would make a lot of sense, considering that he and that majority owner don't get along well.
  24. "First Thai legal craft beer", brewed in Cambodia. That should go down well... An interesting story, hopefully it will end well.
  25. Same here, z909, nowadays my Line ID is all that casual encounters get from me.
