Don't despair so easily. There are boys who will give the "up to you" reply when you inquire about tips expected, and some of these guys make good company. They're down-to-earth enough to accept the fact that a 1,000 baht bill in hand is better than the 200 baht attendance allowance they get from the bars and no off whatsoever.

At Zing resort & spa, where I stayed early last month, I did not notice any children. Lots of older & old single men, and one or two gay couples.
