This was back in the time of easy business upgrades and frequent flyer points were issued by the number of miles flown. So a roundtrip to BKK with all the bonuses usually accrued enough miles to get a free trip to Brasil, in business class.

Some hotels are stricter than others...is Colombian law that everyone that enters a hotel room is registered, I learned this after arguing first hand with reception at the Hampton Inn Medellin....a Venezuelan that didn't have a Colombian ID, they wouldn't let enter.
