  1. But half of the voters were black, and Obama took those voters by a 4 to 1 margin. And its Edwards home state. Seems like it was more about the black vote than anything else. How significant is the black vote nationally, I wonder?
  2. It's an interesting primary cycle, things more of a horse race than in years past it seems to me. I think South Carolina says that Obama has the black vote, I'm not enough of an analyst to say what that means to delegate count. But I'd imagine what held in south carolina is going to carry through for the black vote (unless something dramatic changes). Interestingly, I think all the front runners have big flaws that will make for a messy general election. Obama - Washington lightweight. Just 3 years as a senator. Hillary - "bitch" carries a lot of negatives McCain - America and he disagree on the Iraq war a lot Romney - flip-flopping mormon. (while this crowd might find that hot, I don't think the general public will). I think Rudy is DOA, and I think Huckabee is too fringe to be credible. Edwards may play spoiler at the convention, but I think it's more likely that he will flame out as his lack of viability becomes more apparent to voters. How do the rest of you handicap it?
  3. Do the republicans even know who the Blade is? I can't imagine them having a "gay outreach director". It's great in theory to play both sides of the fence to get what we want, but the other side of the fence has the religious right so far up its ass it burps lube. As long as that's the state of affairs, the DNC knows that the vast majority of us are going to vote democratic pretty much no matter what.
  4. I don't think debates really demonstrate much of use. One hopes the president will have thoughtful considered policies, and deal with important questions after reflection. Does a candidate's skill with rhetorical flourishes show any of that thought? Not to me.
  5. Rick Donovan was such a hottie. thanks for the pics. I had such fantasies about him in college.
  6. As one of the old school folks who remembers the horrible devastation that HIV has had on our community, The current manageability of the infection doesn't make it any less frightening to me. The New York Times has a good article on long-term effects of the anti-viral therapies. I hope we find a real and final cure for this plague some time soon. http://www.nytimes.com/2008/01/06/health/0...amp;oref=slogin (I believe the NY times requires registration to read, but it is worth it)
  7. This is my general sentiment. I'm willing to support the site, but it isn't worth $8 a month to me to enlarge pictures. I get my porn elsewhere, so any offers in that area are not of interest.

    Here We Go Again

Give the thing a rest. His blog is all about gossip about other people, somebody posts gossip about him and it's a witchhunt?

    Larry Craig

I am gay. Craig is a cock-sucker. There is a difference.
  10. I wish I had these options. Inspired in part by your story, I have been going to the gym regularly for the last six weeks, and making good progress, but the only trainer convenient looks like she was a high school cheerleader. She's great, but... Still, the sight of the hot young things working out does give me inspiration...
  11. http://www.towleroad.com/2007/09/top-chef-contes.html and http://advocate.com/news_detail_ektid48786.asp I guess it was the "beaten while yelling anti-gay slurs" that tipped me off.
  12. I'm not a criminal jury, I don't need all the facts to accept at face value that another fag-bashing has occurred. Certainly other information could change my mind, but I see no reason at the moment to doubt that the story occurred as it was reported.
  13. I think (I hope) it is partially an age thing. I'm 44. When I was coming out, condoms were just coming in. If I had come out in NYC, I"d probably be dead now. But we learned that the deadly killer virus HIV could be stopped, and we learned to suit up. We mourned all the people we knew who died. Now HIV is a 'manageable' disease. We who grew up in the days of the worst holocaust can't stop thinking of it as a killer, while today's kids think, "ah, couple a pills a day and you're good." I think this attitude is insane, but so it is. I wish more folks would understand the very weak barrier that a drug is. If it fails, you die. AIDS is a horrific killer. I miss condomless sex, but the thought of doing it today terrifies me. It brings back the memory of all those people who rotted away under the awful, awful curse of AIDS. I just can't.
  14. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pit_bull I'm sorry, but that just isn't true. Pit Bulls can be socialized to violence, but it isn't intrinsic to the breed. They get a very bad rep because of monsters like Vick who torture them and drive them to that behavior. It is very sad that a breed is getting maligned because a segment of really twisted fucks have decided to turn a decent animal into their dark fantasy. All breeds of dogs are capable of violence (my brother was scarred by a daschund as a child), but pit bulls aren't any worse than anything else.
  15. I gave a fair bit to Kerry in the hopes we would return to sanity. I am going to sit this one out, donation-wise. The amount of money being thrown around is staggering, isn't it? I wish I could remember the reference, but I read a great article about a wealthy gay activist who started a push to give only at the local level with the intent of knocking out the psycho-conservatives before they could grow up to the national stage. Sounded like a great idea.
  16. What an amazing story! Congratulations. I have a couple of friends who did it and I'm in awe of them.
  17. They're really young, thrust into a situation which I doubt they were trained or prepared for. Yes, it was stupid of them to feed the Iranian propaganda machine. But cut them some slack for being young and unsure of how to handle the situation. Iran isn't at war with Britain.
  18. Today's screed on 15 minutes is just sad. You'd think a guy who escorted for a living wouldn't be out there begging for society's acceptance. Instead, we get an old-school "if only we acted like good niggas, I mean good gays, massa straightie would like us. I hate them bad gays massa." I could write a very long explanation of why this is a very, very stupid and community-destructive point of view, but this is obvious to people who have thought about the issue. Maybe he should go back to stealing stuff. The true BN that is showing through here isn't so attractive.
  19. I'm happy for her, but I think the question to her father is valid. It's hypocritical for him to espouse a party line that gays shouldn't marry or have children, and then turn around and applaud his own daughter for it. The question is only asked because of the hypocrisy.
  20. I'm fascinated that this has provoked such a response. I found the review somewhat helpful. As others pointed out, many of the gay reviews aren't very helpful, since I prefer top escorts. I read them, however, because it can tell me something useful about the escort, like how they treat their clients. This review was no different. Parts of it were useful, parts weren't. I would personally be quite surprised if large numbers of straight reviews came in. If they did, I'm sure it would be a relatively trivial matter to partition the site so people could read what they prefer. It's just some data. Nothing more.
  21. I don't care overly. It would be inconvenient, but I could live with the world knowing I hired. I've always believed that if you're an enemy of the gay community, you don't deserve our protection. I believe that we're in this together, and we don't out each other to protect each other from bigots. But we don't 'owe' it to each other keep silent as some unbreakable oath. If you're really paranoid about being outed, then you should ensure no one knows your secret. Don't go to gay bars or the like, then act against us from the pulpit or the legislature the next day and expect our complicity. If we're not personal friends, and I know you're gay, then it isn't a secret. Which brings me to escorts. There is a greater assumption of discretion/secrecy from an escort. But everything has its limits. If the person is a real enemy of the community, I think shielding them is the greater negative, though I wouldn't argue with an escort who chose to keep their secret - particularly since outing them probably terminates the escorts career.
  22. I hire when I travel. With the increase in prices, some of the places I go (NYC for example), I don't bother. Hiring is for fun, but there are various ways to have fun with my money. When it gets more expensive than I think it's worth, I move on to those other things. I make enough, but I'm enough of a yankee to do a double take at some of the prices asked these days. I review when I hire, and haven't traveled much lately, and hired less. In the past I posted to Hooboy. I think now I'll post here. I like the climate better.
  23. >YAWN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! No ONE gives a SHIT!. except MAYBE you >and who yiou USED to be??????????? I'm sure this sounded clever to you, but to those of us not in on your private vendetta, it just sounds whiny.

Talvin Demachio is DC based. As for the kids comment - I didn't say he was doing anything illegal, but at the very least it's extremely tacky, and more likely unethical to have this kind of relationship with pages. Just because I'm gay, and hire, doesn't mean I have no moral compass about using a position of authority to sate your sexual fantasies.
