  2. Amazing views of Jomtien's Dongtan beach - especially when the sunsets behind Koh Larn island and also later into the night --> like right now. This is the PRIMARY reason why I chose Jomtien over Bangkok - as I have an eternal affinity with the sea.

  3. Yes I do - already since 2 years and 2 months I get up at the crack of dawn and go to the gym - my training starts at 7:50am - I finish the gym between 9:55am and 10:10am. Then I go eat breakfast at Tinnies (the Australian place with the BEST bacon in all of Pattaya - in my opinion). Then depending on the day, I grab a Bolt from Jomtien into almost North Pattaya where I go for my ED Shockwave treatment at 11:30am and that lasts for around 35 to 40 minutes - then I take a motorbike taxi to the TRT (testosterone replacement therapy) clinic - near Boyztown. That lasts for about 10 to 15 minutes if it is not a day when they need to draw blood for the monthly stats. Then the baht bus back to Jomtien, run local errands - like to FoodMart and/or 7-Eleven or to go see my viagra/cialis lady to stock up the supply. Then home for a 2 hour nap. Then around 5pm or 6pm one of my 4 hands massage coordinators brings himself and another guy to massage me and have some fun. Then clean up, myself, the bed, shower area and if one of them wants to go eat we usually go outside of the Jomtien Complex to grab a bite - it is usually Thai food. Then head into the Jomtien Complex for a drink and by 9pm or 10pm I am craving my bed to catch up on some internet and/or watch some YouTube and then fall asleep. Rinse and repeat and before you know it the week has finished. On non gym days (there are 3) then my schedule is more free and I walk on the beach, or go to Koh Larn, or go into Central Pattaya to one of the malls, go see a movie - catch up with friends, etcetra You don't need to cross that busy road (Thappraya) - you can live in one of the many beach condos that are all within walking distance of the Jomtien Supertown Complex and the gay Dongtan beach. They are: View Talay 7 Jomtien Complex Condotel Grand Condotel View Talay 5 (there are 2) Jomtien Plaza Condotel Of course you will pay more because the above condos are on or very near to the beach. On the other side of the busy Thappraya road - there is View Talay 2 (2 buildings) and also View Talay 1 (2 buildings) that are much cheaper than the above listed on-the-beach condo list. Yes - easily. Just realize to put into your budget 2 important factors: Boy tax - everytime you bring one to your room or do them in a massage and/or short time room there is a fee - these can become very expensive - so make sure that you have a way to finance all of this or you might need to join the PFC, NEW Thai government taxation (effective from 01-Jan-2024) on money that you bring into Thailand (i.e., remittances) as Assessable Income --> my Boy tax is already too high so when the government decided to get greedy - as I am already spending a considerable amount of my discretionary income in the local Thai economy - I decided that from 2025 forward I will only live in Thailand for less than 180 days for each alternating year - thus giving the money that I would have spent in Thailand to other nearby countries (The Philippines and Vietnam). I do not agree with this statement. It is easier to make expat friends with these 2 types of expats: those here on vacation, those who live here seasonally. I found that the expats that live here full time are not easy to make friends with and in fact I have given up on this endeavor - and I instead concentrate making Thai friends. Even my 1 local expat friend, JD100, is leaving Thailand due to this difficulty to make friends with the full time expats that live here. There seems to be some kind of acid in the local water - as I cannot explain it but better to leave the hornets nest alone. Yes I agree for 2 primary reasons: 1.) it can become too expensive, 2.) if you go into the Jomtien Complex too often the excitement wears off when the emphasis of 98% of the bar owners is that you as the farang = "farang sit and farang drink" - as I do not like to sit in a chair all night and I do not like to drink it becomes VERY lethargic and boring and unhealthy. There is no excitement and there is no decent place where you can stand up and expend some energy - like a great place to dance with good music. So, one of the nighttime alternatives can be to walk over to the gay volleyball on Dongtan beach near the Pattaya waterpark and Sea Rescue. When I do it is a fun night because although I cannot play (I am not good enough) I can jump up and down and cheerlead the guys on and run after the stray balls to avoid that they get wet in the shoreline waves. It is a social event where you walk around and not only sit on your ass all night - so it is not lethargic as a night out in the Jomtien Complex can be. This is incorrect. All of the View Talays were built before this current fad to copy HongKong style small cramped dwellings - so I find the View Talays to be rather large. Mine is 98 sqm with 2 sea facing balconies - more than enough for 1 person. I have looked at many of the newer constructed beach condos and they are mostly all very small and VERY expensive. My goal is to be in walking distance of the Jomtien Complex - so most of the newer constructed cramped buildings are too far away and would require that you either buy a motorbike and have to worry about having an accident or create a BIG dependency on BOLT for transportation purposes.

  4. @Tantric You can do what I did back in August 2022. I already knew the area that I wanted to live in (Jomtien Dongtan beach condo with seaview), so I visited both AirBnB and Booking.com and I used their map view function where I zoomed onto the buildings that I already knew existed - like the View Talays (5 and also 3) and the Grand Condotel. Since I wanted to have a trial run of the eventual building that I would call home - I chose the View Talay closest to the Jomtien Complex and long and behold there was a studio apartment on the 10th floor with a stunning sunset view of the Gulf of Thailand and with Koh Larn island. I booked it for the entire month of September 2022. This strategy gave me: an opportunity to see if I would like the said View Talay building, security team, maintenance team, grounds, facilities, etcetra. allowed me to meet and view with the various real estate offices that are on the ground floor where you can talk to the various real estate agents about your needs. --> unfortunately, most of these in-building on-the-ground real estate agents DO NOT HAVE web pages so there isn't much you can do if you are outside of Thailand and/or outside of the Pattaya area - as you need to be physically present to see what stock they have for rent and what stock is going to be available soon. an opportunity to know the owner of my 10th floor AirBnB (Tony) - as he is also in the local real estate business and is a wealth of information. --> here is the link to Tony's information that I have already posted in this forum: In the end, I enjoyed so much this View Talay building and the entire management team (security, maintenance, Jurissic) that I decided to stay and with the local real estate lady, Khun Fon who owns the ground floor real estate office = P.Pattaya Property https://www.facebook.com/PariyakronLarsen/ So, you can ask either Khun Fon or Tony to sent you any listings that they might have that are for short term - like for the 2 months that you are looking for. I am good friends with my 2 cleaning ladies and I see them all over the different View Talay buildings and they told me that they are always cleaning for short term rentals - so there is a BIG short term rental market - but unfortunately, it seems to be that it can only be found by visiting any of these large condo buildings in any of the on the ground floor small mom-and-pop real estate agents.

  5. India has been on my bucket list for a long time, but never had the chance, or good flights to do so. While looking for award business flights to BKK/Indonesia/Manila and seeing limited to zero availability for anything decent, I thought, let me check India đŸ€” I found Bos-Ist-Dxb-Ccu... Turkish connection to Emirates and Emirates, for 88K United miles- JACKPOT!! Everything else I found from USA (almost any city) to Bkk was 200k+ miles....up to 500k, ridiculous. So that was the start of the planning stage that has lead to me booking a 8 week away from home (6 weeks in Asia) trip. Turkish is one of my favorite airlines and was my 1st time on Emirates..... because of a typhoon in Calcutta, they airport was closed and Emirates delayed their flight by an additional 8 hrs, so 12 hrs in Dubai. So they have me a chauffeured BMW to/from airport and a Marriott Marquis Dubai room, to which the front office manager upgraded me to a suite, because she was from Jakarta and was impressed/happy that I was a lover of Indonesians (I'm sure she knew the men, lol) I never had plans of visiting Dubai, but this 12 hr layover has given me 2nd thoughts....so much action on the apps, but I was too tired to do anything more than look/chat. Kolkata is a good arrival airport I guess, very easy and not CRAZY like Delhi or Bombay as I was told, plus less than a 2 hr flight to BK afterwards. I'd been talking to several guys on X, Blued, Grindr before my arrival to find out some info....not many profiles pics and was a pain in the ass to filter out flakes. I stayed in contact with a guy that spoke English well and wasn't a money boy that likes "old" guys....wasn't very flattering, but 40's-50's was his definition of old, lol....so a compliment too???? 1st night went really well, we had very hot sex...but it became apparent that he wasn't a drinker, anyone that knows me , knows I like to have a few drinks, lol I stayed at the Lalit Great Eastern Hotel and is VERY gay friendly...I later found out that they have drag queen story book hour and my 2nd night a gay community Halloween party, which was so much fun, My Indian friends said I'd be popular because I'm a white foreigner, which I assumed because it's happened in so many places. I wasn't prepared to what extent here....I felt like I was a movie star, Tom Cruise or Harrison Ford, age didn't matter...was amazing yet weird... I was the exotic guy in the bar, lol So, the non-drinker guy tried to keep up with me, which didn't end well for either of us...him vomiting in the bushes, sleeping on the bathroom floor and me in bed alone typing this trip report 😂 I met a guy, a little thicker (chunky) than I like, but very manly and my type otherwise.....we have plans for tomorrow, will see how it goes. These pics are from the party and bushes, to give you an idea how it was....I've been planning my March trips, waiting to see how I liked India, I will include other cities in the itinerary in the south of India, as they aren't as hairy as the north, I'm told.

I would agree that if you are selecting a guy based solely on photo, you run an equal risk of being pleasantly or unpleasantly surprised. Consequently I’d generally advise members to visit the shops in person and see who’s hanging around. Places like Phetboy, 15M and K-Man (all with easy walking distance of less than 5 minutes from BTS stop) will have some you can see in person before deciding. That both of us had disappointing experience on a single night should not keep you from exploring the shops in the area. In our pursuits there are no guarantees of satisfaction but I assure you that there are equal rewards to be enjoyed.

  9. Thanks for sharing @floridarob. Judging by photo variery, no doubt Phetboy has probably highest number of masseur with most photos not taken by the shop. M15 actually invest in a proper photo of the masseur - one can argue if they are slightly photoshopped or not - but at the very least, they invest efforts. I found instances where the boys at M15 are also not available at other shops. One of the more tell of quality of a massage shop is whether that shop has been reviewed by the massage reviewer (local thai). I never seen Phet boy review. On the other hand, I have seen m15/m27.

  11. It is not the end of the world. Really. I feel for the younger generation. We (older) went through rough years with HIV/AIDS, various wars and nuclear disasters. Hurricanes and financial disasters. We are tough - we will put out heads down, keep working at it and strive for small gains. I am concerned that the younger generation does not have the stamina and tenacity to see opportunity in the challenge. Time will tell and maybe prove me wrong. I will be glad for it. 😁

  12. Edging with 2 hands can accomplish this.......đŸ€·â€â™‚ïž I wouldn't blame the shop.... poor choice of masseur. @reader was showing me another place that had some videos, where you could see the guys actual moving, talking and no photoshopped pics, that would be a better bet of picking someone, I think.

  13. In Saphan Kwai, most of my experiences at 15M have been good to very good. Some guys who originally became known to readers who receive feeds from Jey Spa, Glam and other shops have been appearing in various SK shop listings. I’ve booked two of them but found their practice annoying of trying to upsell themselves piecemeal with very pricey requests for what they believe are “extras”. in Silom, I’ve had many good times in Soi 6 shops* and at Avarin and Green on Surawong. * I haven’t tried any of the 9-Teen shops which only hire Thai staff.

  14. I booked Ibis Styles Silom for my coming trip, the other hotels I looked at were the Raya with Tarntawan in 3rd place. I basically just needed a hotel with a gym and a pool this trip as I need to keep fit for upcoming surgery and my usual walking in Bangkok just might not be enough, so not having either is a downside to the Raya and Tarntawan for me this trip. Not into the bars so location isn't an issue although the Ibis is still close enough if I were and still close enough to the restaurants and massage parlours.

  15. For combination of location and price, difficult to beat Tarntawan. if the price is right, Raya has location plus better rooms.

  16. Although he’s not alive to share in the victory, Roy Cohn is responsible in no small part. From National Public Radio obituary: Cohn was already a legend when Trump met him in 1973. Cohn had been in the news for decades, prosecuting nuclear espionage or searching for communists or defending celebrity clients. Among those he represented were Cardinal Francis Spellman, New York Yankees owner George Steinbrenner and the New York crime bosses Carmine Galante and John Gotti.Trump met him in the high-fashion Manhattan bar called Le Club and was soon relying on him for advice in dealing with lawsuits and legal orders and life in general. He drew up four versions of a prenuptial agreement prior to Trump's first marriage. (His first wife, Ivana Trump, died Thursday at 73.)Cohn was known for telling clients to fight all charges, to counter-sue when sued and to never concede defeat. Trump has followed his formula for half a century, and that has come to matter a great deal to the nation.

  17. Please note that this is not a prerequisite for a good edging. Good edging candidates are willing to give up the control of their orgasm to the person who will edge them and they are willing to avoid fast orgasms that so many men prefer. It requires another mental dimension for this type of pleasure. The most challenging candidates are: those who suffer from pre-ejaculation - but I accept that challenge. I had an Italian boyfriend back in Rome who would cum instantly if I touched him anywhere on his body - I found it VERY exciting. I would tease him for that first touch so that he could have his quick orgasm. Then I would have him edge me to my almost orgasm. By that time he was ready for a proper slow edging. Then after his 2nd orgasm I could have my first orgasm. those who can only reach orgasm from their own hands. These types of people are the most challenging and my success rate with these types of people is a dismal 20% - as they are people who only like their own control for their own sexual satisfaction and consequential orgasm. I try to avoid these types of people Then the remaining population are usually good edging candidates - unless the guy is a total bottom and does not like orgasm without anal penetration.

  18. @reader This is also true here in Pattaya. There is MORE supply of massage guys than there are of punters / potential customers. Once you frequent one more than 1 or 2 times - I see that the service level can decrease (becoming a bit jaded) as they start to take advantage of their new client. Therefore, I have a hard rule that I gave to my 2 local guys that organize my 4 hands massages for me - only introduce me to NEW guys that meet my criteria to be open for edging fun. It makes the future meetings more exciting. Those few where I find that they are EXCELLENT go on my private list and I work with them independently of my 2 massage organizers. A win-win for everyone.

  22. Had a unmemorable time in Pattaya last week, except for meeting @Keithambrose and @BjornAgain . My stay at the Ambiance was good, still like that hotel, comfortable/clean beds sheets, cold ac, dark as fuck room, which vampires prefer. Someone had asked about the noise, which I've never noticed because I come in after 3am usually, however, one night I stayed in, my sleeping routine was messed up and wanted to rest. I was on the 2nd floor and could hear the noise/music from BBB downstairs, but by 1230am was quiet again. Mike Taxi was ontime and the vehicles they had in both direction were late models and very comfortable. Staying at the Tarntawan, another old reliable for me and the same as Ambiance without the noise, they stays here are always very quiet. Price/location combo can't be beat and still the same staff mostly for many years, except last night I met a new overnight desk agent, he seems nice though. I went with @reader to Saphan Kawi to a massage shop, PHETBOY Spa and I reserved someone from their listings since I was unsure how many would be there on demand, in hindsight I should've taking the chance since there were so many massage shops in the area. The guy that I reserved turned out to be the worst massage/sex experience EVER in Thailand for me. His pictures were heavily fotoshopped and I should of called it off right then, but thought maybe he has some skills or equipment that would compensate. It only got worse at each step.... HORRIBLE massage skills, I kept thinking that if @macaroni21 had been writing a review it would've been zero's across the board. I put him on the floor to show him a few techniques, then gave him another try. Nope, at this point I thought he was just dumb, but who was I to speak since I was still there 🙄 After 17 mins of massage, he wanted to start to chuck wow....now their listings show T or B and he was listed as a Top. Maybe he was unaware of that part? Didn't/couldn't fuck and at 48 mins he said he had to go because he had work (another client somewhere) at 6pm. I got dressed and went downstairs, he asked "Tip?". I spoke to the manager (probably owner) and all he was concerned with was that the shop got their money, Listed mon tips were 800/1000. I told him any tip I gave the kid would be a gift, shop fee was 380 and I gave 1000, more than I should've. Manager apologized and said see you next time, to which I could only laugh. Reader was waiting outside and first thing I said to him was this was the worst massage ever in Thailand and he quickly replied, couldn't have been worse than mine, lmao. Since we were taking the Skytrain we decided to go to Madrid to eat, the pizza place not the city. Called Jenny to confirm she was opened and she said yes and would prepare a table for us. See other post about Madrid. After going out separate ways, I went to Hot Male to see if Alex's cousin was there, I had messaged him a month and a week ago to let him know I'd be coming only to find out he was off today. Messaged him and he said he's in Pattaya and won't be back until Fri, I leave EARLY Sat 😑 Wasn't turning out to be a good day, except for the pizza so far....went to Circus to see a couple of waiters I have on FB as friends walked soi 4, didn't see anything interesting. Sat outside Sunrise Taco checking out the apps. One of the boys that I went with before from HotMale gogo recognized me, he looked like a homeless person and I asked him what happened. He just came from his country and is walking Silom looking for clients, he asked for my line. I told him no way, I've had a bad luck day and didn't need anymore today. I saw @Keithambrose walking pass me and I yelled at him, he seemed shocked and came back. Hope he didn't think I was a homeless guy looking for a trick đŸ€” We walked over to Hot Male downstairs to which he invited me for a drink, I'm a cheap date. Talked for awhile until a nearby table or screaming/cackling Thai's became unbearable and we left. I walked down to Tawan, Super A and Nature boy....as I passes Where Golden Cock used to be, a guy that I knew from there came running up to me, I had seen a bunch of people sitting outside at tables, guys and girls and thought it was a straight bar, he said no, it's a new bar, Mr O's kitchen or something like that. I always had a good time with him, so I went in to buy him a beer 200 baht. I thought I was going to off him so bought him another beer, because now it was late and no other options. Apparently the owner is from Las Vegas and has Nature boy too according to this kid. I guess he is a gambler, lol. Then this kid seemed like he was trusted to be in charge when the owner left and said he couldn't go with me, wtf is happening today I thought. He introduced me to the 5 guys that were available, 2 were really cute and 1 said he wasn't for me (bottom) but my friend referred me to an average guy saying I'll be happier with him for massage and sex (500 off 1500 tip). He's known me for years so I took his advice.... turned out to be a fun end of a shitty day. Over 2 hours of massage and fucking, even after he finished he made sure I did too, which is good because so many lose interest after they cum, including myself. He said we could do another day and he doesn't watch the clock can be hours and hours, but he looks like he can drink as much as me and that could add up to a lot, lol Went to sleep about 530am and woke up at almost 1pm.....my vampire sleep routine is back!!!

Gay latino men, for the most part voted Harris I would assume. Most of them are on Ru Pauls Drag race, so I know. LOL Latino male men learn there lesson when ICE comes knocking on their "undocumented" mothers door, or better yet, kicks it in.

  27. Do you mean resistance from the "people" ?, because certainly when you lose the House and Senate, there is not much resistance there. Trump has FREE reign in his appointments and confirmation process, and we will most likely see EVERY MAGA looney, nutjob and radical in his cabinet, RFK Jr and Leaping Elon, his 2 loser sons, Steve Bannon, Roger Stone etc, ALL people that have gone to jail and either done time or been pardoned. And poor Jack Smith is TOAST, and Trump walks....after all the time and money spent on holding him accountable. Doesnt seem Fair, does it ? But life is NOT fair, its a game of roulette, and this time, we had our chips on the wrong color.

  28. Exactly! That's not a theory. That's a fact. There's been lots of polling on that. It's not black and white, pun intended. But Latinos generally identify as "White". Including in Mexico, I'd argue. Turn on a telenovela and it tends to be handsome "White" looking men and women. Not Black looking Mexicans. But that is a whole separate thing. I think the positive way to say it is that America is a melting pot. And there is definitely backlash against what people see as extreme versions of identity politics, where they are reduced to their race. I am not saying Democrats do that, or Harris did it. I think she did a great job of NOT doing that. The better example is what I viewed as the complete fucking nonsense about "Latinx." It was wildly stupid. And probably a good example of "woke" college-educated idiots who speak no Spanish trying to make some stupid fucking cultural statement. Polls said almost all Spanish speaking Hispanic Americans did not like the idea. That said, I don't think "Latinx" was why Latino men voted for Trump. And they did not vote for Trump because they want more tax cuts for billionaires who funded Trump's campaigns. What we learned about Latinos and immigration is that it is very complicated. I will not repeat the whole anecdote. But my Mexican American immigrant hair stylist was not buying what some White Gay guy who was the customer before me was selling about how Trump is a monster who attacks all Mexican immigrants as rapists. She said some Mexican immigrants are rapists and murderers. I think Harris did a very good job of taking a conservative line on immigration. Turns out it was too little, too late, I think. I'm actually more worried about one of my friends who I just got off the phone with. The discussion now is, "Do I cut off friends who voted for Trump? Do I cut off family members?" That was the question he was asking. For me the answer is NO. I'll congratulate them. It's still a democracy, and they won. If Trump overreaches and does fascist things, the resistance will be immediate and fierce and unrelenting. That said, @reader was absolutely right. Can America withstand Trump's fascist tendencies? Check back with me in 2026. The one who comes out of this smelling like a rose is Mark Halperin. He is the person I have listened to the most, for months. In part because he has his 2Way daily. I posted that when Dan Turrentine, his Democrat co-host, said Republicans would win 54 Senate seats a few days before the election, I was shocked. But he was close to correct. Thankfully, as of now, maybe it is more like 52? I feel sorry for Alan Lichtman and Ann Selzer. They are both highly respected experts, who always get it right. Or at least are only off by a little bit, when it really matters. They were both WAY OFF on 2024. Why that is could be a thread in itself. But as I posted repeatedly, I had every reason to think they were right. This is splitting hairs, but I will say this. Selzer was not wrong about older White women. Trump won them by 11 points in 2020, and 5 points in 2024. If that was the ONLY change, Harris would have won. So we really do need to talk about Latinos, who drove Trump's victory. The part of Lichtman's analysis I have wondered the most about was the economy, stupid. In 1992 he counted one key against Bush 41, because he said the economy was in recession in early 1992. Technically, that is true. His key literally says that if the economy is in recession for one week in the year of a Presidential election, you lose that key. I think the 1991 recession technically ended in January 1992. Technically, there was no recession in 2024. But the overwhelming reality that we all heard ad nauseum is that lots of Democrats - LIKE LATINOS AND BLACK MEN IN PARTICULAR - felt like this was a recession, even if it wasn't. So that gets you into an obscure debate about whether Lichtman misjudged his own Keys. Once the dust settles, I'll be curious what Lichtman says. Last night he was just stunned. He literally almost could not speak. I just spent a few minutes clicking through hours of him just being stunned and useless. He lost a lot of his cache last night.

  29. Clearly this election was a rebuke of elitist government, eventhough Trump is the biggest elite around, he doesnt speak or behave like one. His persona is that of the average man. For me, this illustrates "cultural resentment", and the fact that Americans could not bring themselves to anoint a black woman, and it seems that Latinos, at least the ones in America identify more with Whiteness than they do their own culture, although they may disagree with that, their actions prove otherwise. They hate the fact of latinos from other places coming to our country and threatening their livlihoods, and they believe these immigrants are having it better than them. When Trumps campaign "trashed" latinos, it was no big deal, but when Biden "trashed" Trump supporters, it was over. People identified Kamala as an extension Biden, who is not very popular now, so his comment reflected on her, while on the Trump side the latino comments did not come from HIS mouth. . While election autopsies will be going on for awhile, as I said earlier, lets see how Trumps first 180 days goes, and if it will be "promises made, promises delivered" ? MAGA proved to be a more serious and powerful "movement" than anyone anticipated. @stevenkesslar , relax, grasp hold of your psyche, and regroup. I know Lichtman disappointed you, but no man is perfect. There still may be a glimmer of hope, SOMEWHERE ?

  39. For a comparison overview of Condo's look at thailand-property.com . Bare in mind the info isn't 100% up to date, for that use the specific Real Estate details and look on their website. Site is useful for giving build details, so date of construction, also links to Sale and Rental availability, so you can gauge condition and quality. If using AirBnB or VRBO, don't expect the landlord or person / agency offering the rental to complete the TM30 paperwork, which is required by law to be completed within 24 hours of you taking up residence. Hotels do this at checkin, hence why they always photocopy your passport. Fine to the property owner is 1600THB. Just don't make a reason to be apprehended by the BiB. Good luck.

    Do you live in Thailand?

You two should get a condo together. Best yet, find a third guy, and each of you can rotate living in the 3 countries and share the lease. Best thing is, you can even plan it so that none of you need to be in the same condo, country at the same time at all.

  42. if you move in with me @Olddaddy you will get an earful from me. You ask very good thought provoking questions that sometimes give me fear, present a challenge, or are entertaining. It was you who wrote a post in the summer of 2022 (just before my former employer moved me to Thailand as part of my retirement package) where you asked a VERY thought provoking question which was (I am paraphrasing your post - I am too lazy to dig it out of this forum's archives) - "what do all of the falangs do when they sit on their balconies looking out at the sea in Jomtien all day?? Do they get bored?" @Olddaddy, that question freaked me out - I was packing my belongings back in Europe for the big move and I thought to myself - oh shit - what if @Olddaddy is correct? What if I am making the BIGGEST mistake of my life - after all of the many years that I invested on the very difficult question, "where do I want to retire?" And yes, I often did get bored in that first year. I would sit on my balcony looking at that beautiful Gulf of Thailand sea - and think to myself - why am I bored? I worked my entire life to live on the sea - as that was my lifelong dream. Then I realized that if I am getting bored then the ONLY person that can change that is ME!! So, I got off of my ass and made myself busy. The hardest transition in retirement is that we are often identified by our careers and when there is no more career - we can go into identity crisis - to answer the Holy Grail question of: What is my purpose in life?? That was the hardest part of my new retirement and now I am finally beyond that because I filled up my life with many little things that when combined fill up my days, so that I don't have too much free time to worry about, "am I bored?" or "what is my purpose in life?" and @emiel1981 wrote about this in his recent Pattaya trip report. Him and I, were often sitting in the Jomtien Complex and wondering is that guy who just walked by @Olddaddy ?? Then we would say, hmm, no he is too fat and Olddaddy said that he goes to the gym and is not yet retired. Let us look for a more fit guy who is younger and not so feeble.....

    Do you live in Thailand?

Idea - if you were living in Pattaya, wouldn't you keep yourself occupied by running your bar that you are going to open?

    Yellow fever?

Or at the very least present at Brazilian check-in the summary statement from the Colombia health ministry that suggests contraindication over age 60, although discretionary vaccination age 60-65. (Link embedded, less blurry, in following post.)

  47. This is an update to this 2022 trip report to Koh Larn from the Pattaya Bali Hai pier - because the Pattaya City (mayor) decided to implement a new speedboat departure system, which I experienced today, 26 Oct 2024. https://www.pattayamail.com/news/pattaya-mayor-vows-to-end-aggressive-practices-at-bali-hai-pier-472979 Prior to now, you went to individual speedboat vendor booths to buy your ticket to Koh Larn - to the left of the pier (when facing the sea harbor) as shown in the below photo: Contrary to what was reported by the Pattaya mayor, I NEVER found this system to be aggressive. I knew which speedboat company I preferred and I walked up to that individual ticket booth and bought my ticket from my favorite ladyboy ticket seller at the AM booth. Simple and easy. One of their guides would walk us onto the Bali Hai pier where their designated speedboat was departing from. Now the Pattaya City had this not so great idea to terminate all of these individual speedboat ticket booths to just 2 ticket booths that are situated at the beginning of the Bali Hai pier - see below photo that I took today: What the city has done is to divide Koh Larn into 2 sectors - Tawaen beach (side opposite of Pattaya city) and Na Baan (side facing Pattaya city). In the past, I always bought my ticket from the AM speedboat ticket booth for the Tawaen destination and I paid 150 baht each way or 300 baht if I wanted to return from Tawaen - often I returned from Na Baan - as the return times back to Pattaya city are more flexible. Well, this morning I got in the queue and I asked for a ticket to Tawaen and I was told that due to the choppy sea that they can only bring me to Nual Beach (aka Monkey Beach) for 500 baht. I don't like Nual Beach as it is not nice in my opinion. I asked why is it so expensive and the girl at the ticket booth told me that it is always 500 baht. I told her that I live in Pattaya now since 2 years and I have NEVER paid 500 baht to go to the non-Pattaya city facing side of the island. She replied to me, well my father is the boat captain - do you want to speak to him. I said NO - and I then asked her what are my other options to get onto Koh Larn? By now I was angry, as the Pattaya City has made a mess by demanding the demolition of the former decentralized ticketing system to this now centralized ticketing system. The girl told me that i can take the normal slow ferry to Na Baan OR she pointed to another ticket booth where they were selling speedboat tickets to Na Baan - the main village on Koh Larn. So, I bought a 150 baht speedboat ticket for Na Baan and we were then led by our assigned guide onto the Bali Hai pier floating launch that was super packed as there were other tour groups already on the floating pier - total chaos, confusion, and people being jostled by the up and down of the waves. When the system was decentralized, the individual boat company took care to obtain their own unique launch pier to avoid the chaos that comes when you put too many groups onto the same floating launch pier - a consequence of this badly implemented centralized system. In my opinion, it is just a mater of time before a tourist is hurt by this chaos and then to protect the sacred image of pristine Pattaya - they will order the centralized ticketing system to be demolished and we go back to the safer decentralized individual boat companies that saw to take care of you the customer. When I arrived into the main Na Baan village, I rented a motorbike so that I could cross over the island onto my favorite side. My first stop was for my favorite banana creme cake with an iced cappuccino at the wonderful Cher Aim Cafe & Resort situated on Tawaen beach. I will admit, the ride over on the speedboat was very choppy and 90% of the passengers were Asians and some of them opened their umbrellas inside the speedboat to try to avoid some of the splashes that were entering into the boat from the waves. All was good - as I am almost always impressed how the Thai boat drivers magically navigate their boats in any kind of weather. Then after by banana creme cake (don't tell my gym trainer - I can already hear her yelling - I cannot control what you put into your mouth - if she only knew - hahahha) I then drove the motorbike over the most difficult but exhilarating hill on Koh Larn down into my MOST favorite beach = Tien beach. Life is good on Tien Beach --> note that back in Pattaya there has been trash found on the local city beaches due to all of the recent storms - but over here on Koh Larn - no trash - just beautiful clean transparent turquoise water with fluffy white powder sand. The ride back to Pattaya City from Na Baan was uneventful because by now the morning choppiness had disappeared and the 8 km of sea between Koh Larn and Pattaya City was tranquil = all was good.

  48. I just got back from MedellĂn on Saturday from an eight-day trip. It was my first time in Colombia. I had an amazing trip and never felt unsafe. I will admit that I planned a trip back in April, but then canceled because I read too many Facebook sorry stories about crime. Obviously it's terrible whenever something bad happens to anyone. Like others have noted, common sense and trusting your instincts will go a long way. I don't drink, use other chemicals, and I don't party. I wore an Apple Watch and used my phone occasionally on the street, but I wasn't obnoxious about it. I met up with many guys, mostly from Grindr and mileroticos. They were all very attractive and I had a great time. I did my best to vet them, and make sure they had social media, twitter, an onlyfans, etc. My sense is that many were interested in ongoing financial support, either directly or through through their websites. To be blunt, if they kill you they might get what's in your wallet that day, but nothing in the future. I think the best advice I can give you is to spend time with the local guys, and they will look out for you. The local job market is really tough and there are many guys on Grindr who are unemployed and bored. I was very interested in seeing the sites around town, like Comuna 13, museums, Pueblito Paisa, parks, and Guatepe. I met up with two guys in particular and offered to buy them lunch and pay for travel expenses. Both were happy to take me around town and were very proud of their city and its culture. One even took me up to Mirador Picacho in the evening to see some breathtaking views of the city at night. I was a bit apprehensive but it was worth it. The trip to Guatepe was also worth the two hour Uber drive! I'm already planning my next trip back. There are many more things I want to see and guys I just didn't have time to meet up with!
