TRIP REPORT: MORE DAYS IN PATTAYA The days in Pattaya have been very relaxed. Just what I need before I go on a solo sightseeing trip in China. During daytime at the beach. One of the dinners was in 3Mermaids restaurant on top of the Pattaya cliffs. Beautifully views and very nice of you can sit in one of the "birdsnests" overlooking the restaurant and sea. Depending on what you choose, food can be a bit pricey. But you also pay for "the experience". The restaurant is located in Phra Tamnak and there are a few popular restaurants with also great views next to each other. Below picture of Forest restaurant. If you're staying in pattaya I do recommend using the Hornet app besides Grindr. Spent a few bucks on 1 month paid membership and much more twinks show up on Hornet than in Grindr. Worth it. In the first case, the Pakistani tourist reported that a man, allegedly pretending to be a police officer, stopped him, claimed to search his bag, and afterward the tourist discovered that ten 100 U.S. dollar bills were missing. In the second incident, a Myanmar tourist, along with his sister, was approached by a man also posing as a police officer. The suspect searched their bags and stole 3,150 pound sterling. He allegedly created a distraction by dropping some of the notes on the ground while discreetly pocketing part of the cash before fleeing in a white car waiting nearby. The best book I've ever bought about Thailand is "Very Thai" by Phillip Cornwel-Smith, published by River Books (Thailand) in 2005. It is a survey of popular Thai culture, dealing with many issues which are uniquely Thai, and is full of beautiful photographs. The chapter on the Sniff Kiss ("hom kaem") is particularly interesting. Recommended. It's available from Amazon and I expect eleshere (I bought my copy in Dom Muang ) and has been updated. A great Christmas present for anyone who loves Thailand as we do.

Stopped by the new bar shortly after 9p.m. I chose a table (Semicircular banquet type that can sit four comfortably). the waiter (one of three) gave me a menu that offered a good selection of beers and I selected an Asahi (150, same as local brew prices). When he put by bill in cup he also deliver small bowl of chips. There were two customers at bar and four young Asian guys at another table. it wasn’t long before waiter started conversation with usual questions. TRIP REPORT DAY 3 Woke up late today and went for breakfast/lunch af Coffee Club in the new Park Silom. Another brand new building with the first two or three floors filled with eateries. Silom Complex, Silom Edge, Park Silom... Same same but different.. I noticed a gap where the demolished the old buildings just next to Sala Daeng skytrain stations, between Park Silom and Silom Center. Probably another new development will be build there... Let me guess: big building with room for more of the same (fast food) restaurants... Lol Thanks for this idea. I went there in the afternoon. Beautiful place to visit. The less known temples can also be nice to visit. And so nice to be walking around almost empty temple grounds, without swarms of tourists. From Wat Ratchabophit I walked Wat Suthat Thep to conclude my little temple visiting afternoon. For dinner I went to one of the forum members favorites: Mango Tree. As always it was very nice and for a very very reasonable price. If you are few of the last ones on this forum that haven't been there yet, make sure to go there next time you're in Bangkok. Bangkok: Where to stay When I decided to return to Bangkok and Pattaya and my flight ticket was booked, it was time to think about hotel choices. The best hotel experience I had in Bangkok was Le Méridien. Lovely rooftop pool area to chill out and also the nice bath in the spacious hotelroom was great. But it was just after covid when hotel rates were much lower than normal. The rates of Le Méridien are now too high for me. I've stayed in The Raya before. One of the favourites of this forum I think. But being located next to the building site where Soi Twilight used to be (oh; so many good memories in this street...) I read about some noise disturbances when staying in The Raya. Not sure about the situation at this moment, as these comments about noise were from some time ago. But didn;t want to risk it. Plus I wanted a pool so I can relax during the daytime to save energy for nighttime activities... One time I stayed in another favourite hotel of many forum members: The Tarntawan. But I didn't like it that much. Rooms are a bit older and the room I got allocated was very dark (even with the curtains opened), the bathroom shower was so low I couldn't stand under it. Also see one of my old trip reports: Two hotels still on my list to choose from, and I stayed in both hotels before: The Quarter Silom and Ibis Styles Bangkok Silom. Location of The Quarter is perfect. In the same soi as The One / former Tawan bar. While from the Ibis Styles you always have to cross the busy Silom Road to get to the gay areas. But: I liked the pool at Ibis so much more. As the pool at The Quarter is tucked between two buildings. It feels claustrophobic, while Ibis has a nice rooftop pool area much better for chilling out. Also I like the modern, colourful rooms at Ibis. That's how I decided to book the Ibis Styles again this time.
