The place not mentioned often on this forum - but I've come back recently from two weeks in Buenos Aires. I want to come back already. I had a blast. This is my fourth time in Argentina, but my last visit was 9 or 10 years ago. I'd been to all the best places of this amazing country before, so this time I wanted just to have a chill city vacation in Buenos Aires, a city that I always considered one of the best in the world, and certainly the best in Latin America (for me). It's very different from the rest of Latin America, certainly different from Brazil. To put everything in the proper context from the very start: it is cheap. It is ridiculously cheap. It's cheaper than Cambodia. The economy went down the drain long ago, but the election of Milei propelled the inflation even further up. The local currency (black market rate) lost 20% just in the first three weeks of January. When I look up restaurants on Google Maps and see their menus photographed in November, I know that I need to double the prices for end-January (in pesos). Prices from a year ago do not mean anything, that was a different universe. I'm reading that just before covid, the taxi from the airport was 68 pesos, it is now 37,000 pesos (or 18,000 pesos on Uber) - you get the range. The wine is excellent - I was buying mine from a Chinese car service round the corner. They likely got the wine in stock in December before holidays and forgot to change prices - so I was buying wine from them in end-January for a price not seen anywhere else - $9 for a bottle with a Vivino rating 4.5 (normal malbecs are at around $2 per bottle). In an expensive Michelin restaurant, a huge 400g ribeye steak (dare I say the best steak in the world) and three negronis I accompanied it with rang me a bill of $20 total. In non-Michelin restaurants, steaks are between $5 and $8. In one of the top bars in the city mentioned in all sorts of awards and ratings, the happy hour sees two classic cocktails (I drink Negroni, but others may choose something else) for $3 (i.e. $1.50 each). Argentinian guys are not as defined or perfect as Brazilians - I'm a sucker for pectorals and abdominals, so I needed to dig hard. Check what the sending bank gives as a rate...then check the receiving bank to see what their USD conversion is, plus any potential fees.....then make the decision. They get desperate, especially if they have only had one customer in a given week. Furthermore, many are freelance - and so the shop does not pay them a salary and if they get a non-Thai customer and that person is not accustomed to giving a tip (on which they survive on to pay the rent and eat) their situation becomes quite dire - as it is very difficult to live on a 20 baht tip. Again, I fault the managers / owners of these small shops for not properly "educating" the incoming customers. In Bangkok, many of the massage shops are quite explicit and clear about how much you (the client) are supposed to tip the masseur as it relates to the requested service.

Another place I would recommend is the Raj Mahal Inn, in Wadduwa, about 40 km south of Colombo. It’s a small hotel with just 6 rooms, but the big draw there is that it’s clothing optional and caters pretty much exclusively to gay men. It’s a one man operation and the owner Raja is a super nice guy, who is also a trained masseur. Besides the tourists who stay there, local nudists can buy a day pass and come spend some time. Again, mostly gay men, although once while I was there a local straight couple came for the afternoon. There’s no problem inviting the visiting locals to your room, so there’s fun to be had with them, fellow guests, and even the owner himself. It’s just a few minutes walk from a gorgeous beach which was almost empty while I was there. Also it’s conveniently located just steps from the train station. There’s not a lot to see in the town of Wadduwa, but it has all the necessities: restaurants, grocery stores, pharmacies, bank machines, etc. You can easily do a day trip to Colombo from there by train, which I did with a Norwegian guy who was staying there while I was there.

Of course, here are some recommendations: Bentota (Aluthgama) - the ocean here is incredibly beautiful, you can swim (in Sri Lanka there are almost always waves and not all beaches are suitable for safe swimming). In this place there are good supermarkets, cafes (PizzaHut, KFC), wine shops. There are many hotels, from luxurious (Cinnamon, Taj, NH Bentota) to very budget ones. Grindr activity is not very big, but beach boys and taxi drivers quite openly hint at sex. Ahungalla - a beautiful uncrowded coastline with large boulders (reminiscent of the Seychelles), for a quiet holiday. Here I recommend Shinagawa Beach hotel, opposite it there is a very good safe beach, also the Riu hotel is an excellent option. There are few restaurants in this place, but they are not very good, if possible, it is better to take food at the hotel. The beach boys there are very active and abrupt, they offer sex right in the palm trees on the beach. Usually they are middle-aged (25-35) and not very attractive, the type of a simple working guy. They are straight and usually only fuck in the active position. Hikkaduwa - a popular place, you can see turtles, but there are a lot of tourists, I think 3-4 days will be enough.
