Rebel Group Claims Capture of Major Military HQ in Shan State
Marc in Calif and 2 others reacted to reader for a topic
From The Diplomat A Myanmar rebel group claims to have seized a major regional military headquarters in the city of Lashio near the border with China, in what would mark a historic and humiliating defeat for the country’s military junta. In a Chinese-language statement published on its Facebook page yesterday, the Myanmar National Democratic Alliance Army (MNDAA) said that it had completely captured the military’s Northeastern Regional Command headquarters at 4 a.m. that morning, after 23 days of fighting. “The liberation of Lashio will mark a historic victory in our revolution,” the group declared. The MNDAA also claimed to have established effective control over the city of Lashio, which lies 110 kilometers south of the Chinese border. “Our army has won a decisive victory and is now clearing out the remaining enemy troops. The city is now declared completely liberated,” it added, urging the public to remain calm and comply with its administration of the city. However, the situation remains fluid and conditions on the ground are hard to verify. The Irrawaddy, citing “sources close to resistance forces on the ground,” reported that the city of 170,000 is not yet under full MNDAA control and that clashes are still going on in parts of the city. Myanmar Now, citing local sources, reported that fighting was ongoing but that MNDAA troops “have already entered the city’s downtown core, and were seen approaching the airport [yesterday] afternoon.” For what it’s worth, the military State Administration Council (SAC), the junta’s official name, denied that the Northeastern Regional Command had been overrun, with spokesperson Zaw Min Tun stating that its forces military were currently conducting clearance operations near the headquarters. The MNDAA’s sensational announcement came a day after its ally, the Ta’ang National Liberation Army (TNLA), reported that it had established control over Mogok, a ruby-mining center around 230 kilometers west of Lashio. The MNDAA and TNLA are members of the Three Brotherhood Alliance, which has been spearheading a multi-pronged offensive against junta positions across northern Shan State and parts of Mandalay Region. During its initial phase from October to January, the surprise offensive, known as Operation 1027 after the date of its commencement, saw the groups capture large swathes of territory in northern Shan State, including numerous towns and several important border crossings with China. The most significant of these was the MNDAA’s reconquest of the ethnic Chinese-dominated Kokang region, from which the military had expelled it in 2009.3 points -
Immmigratiom officers to have 'absolute discretion' on repeated entries

From Pattaya Mail By Barry Kenyon An interview between the Bangkok Post and a deputy director general of the foreign affairs ministry has clarified some visa ambiguities but left others to immigration discretion. The actual recording is, according to the newspaper, available only by downloading the digital web player Spotify. Naruchai Ninnad, representing the ministry, emphasized that the new policies were designed to increase foreign tourism, in accordance with the prime minister’s desire to benefit the economy. Khun Naruchai clarified that tourists from 93 countries receiving the visa-exempt 60 days on entry could indeed extend for a further 30 days at local immigration. They could then, if they wished, leave the country and return the following (not the same) day to obtain a new 60 days and repeat the whole procedure. This has implications for the celebrated, single-day border runs which have traditionally operated through agencies in Bangkok and the provinces. If implemented fully, repeat if, these tourists would need to pay for a night’s accommodation in a foreign country, thus raising costs. The deputy director general emphasized the number of repeatable visa exempts will depend on individual immigration officers who have absolute discretion. Accordingly, it appears that tourists could still be challenged with the cry “you come to Thailand too often without a visa”. The interview also clarified that if visa-exempt tourists wanted to do ad hoc work – lasting fewer than 15 days – they needed to inform the immigration officer on entry or report to the employment ministry soon afterwards. Turning to the new Destination Visa Thailand, available only at foreign embassies or via the e-portal of the foreign affairs ministry, Khun Naruchai emphasized that the main target group were digital nomads and remote workers employed by overseas companies. But applications are also welcome from “activity” based tourists, assuming they have suitable documentary evidence such as enrolment for Thai boxing or cookery classes. Or even as hospital patients. Another surprising category is “music festivals” though precisely what evidence and updates would be required for any of the above remains blurry. These matters are presumably for the discretion of the immigration officer on entry throughout the multiple-entry five years validity of the DTV. Expats with one year extensions of stay based on marriage or retirement or the Elite visa are virtually ignored in the latest set of changes. It will probably be many months before the visa exempt and DTV ambiguities begin to clear up, so expats are probably safer to stick with what they have. Separately, any foreigner (with any visa or no visa at all) now residing in Thailand for 180 days or more in a calendar year is subject to taxation on “assessable” overseas income with many details yet to be unfolded. There is no elephant in the room. There are several.3 points -
7 arrested for illegal genital enhancement services, extortion

NOTE -- I have no idea how these gadgets might work and I don't think I want to. From VN Express Owner of the Gyeongbok spa on Vo Thi Sau Street in HCMC's District 3. Photo by police HCMC police detained seven employees of a local spa on Friday for illegally offering penis lengthening services, detaining, and extorting customers, following multiple complaints and a mid-July raid. The employees, four women and three men, of the Gyeongbok spa on Vo Thi Sau Street in District 3 in the city’s center are now under investigation for the acts of "extortion" and "illegal detention." The owner of the spa is also probed for the same charges but she was released on bail due to pregnancy. Police said they had previously received complaints that the Gyeongbok spa advertised medical treatments and procedures to "increase penis length" and "extend sexual duration" beyond its authorized functions. Some reported it to have signs of fraud. In mid-July, several criminal and economic police officers from District 3, along with local police, conducted inspection of the spa, discovering a 47-year-old male customer from the southern Can Tho City being detained by spa staff over a dispute about the exorbitant service charges. The authorities also found many citizen identification cards and phones of other customers held by the staff due to unpaid service fees. Determining signs of criminal activity, the police brought everyone in for questioning. The investigation revealed that the Gyeongbok spa did not have a license from the city’s Department of Health, its business license did not include the functions of performing "penis lengthening" and "sexual duration extension" procedures, yet it still advertised such services and offered them to customers. The spa hired many employees, but most did not have contracts and were unqualified to perform such procedures, police said. The owner of the spa admitted to purchasing the equipment to use, despite not fully understanding their functions or effectiveness. She is accused of managing and assigning tasks to each employee with the intent to defraud and steal from customers.3 points -

Best trains between Bangkok and Hua Hin
splinter1949 and 2 others reacted to reader for a topic
From Richard Barrow Train Guide Looking for a train between Bangkok and Hua Hin? The most popular one is Special Express No. 43, which has air conditioning and only takes three hours. You can book this train up to 30 days in advance. Special Express No. 911 is a weekend excursion train. The ticket price is for a round trip. In theory, you can use this train just to go one-way to Hua Hin. You can book these tickets up to three months in advance. The next best train is Ordinary No. 255, which departs from Thonburi Station at 7:20am. Tickets are only 42 baht, but it takes 90 minutes longer than No. 43 and only has a fan and open windows. Like other local trains, you can only buy tickets at the station an hour before departure. If you want to leave from Bangkok Station (Hua Lamphong), then Ordinary No. 261 is the one for you. This departs at 9:20 and arrives at 1:50pm. Back over at Thonburi, there is another slow train, No. 251, that departs at 1:10pm. If you don’t mind arriving in Hua Hin in the evening, you can try one of the sleeper trains. All of them, apart from No. 31, have 3rd Class carriages. But you can only buy tickets on the day, as you will be going less than 25% of the entire route.3 points -

According to the police, the operation targeted 237 locations within the jurisdiction of the Metropolitan Police Headquarters. As a result, officers dismantled 166 drug networks across 225 cases, seizing 530,000 amphetamine pills, 46 kilograms of methamphetamine, and other illicit substances. Additionally, they confiscated assets worth more than 23 million baht, including luxury cars and accessories. A notable achievement of the operation was the capture of a Chinese drug lord reportedly distributing illicit substances to the USA via a private delivery company. Further investigation led to the arrest of individuals involved in the drug network, including both Thai and Chinese nationals.2 points -

From The Nation Historical park recognised as Thailand's 8th World Heritage site and 5th Cultural World Heritage site; it is also the 2nd World Heritage site in Udon Thani province At 11am on Saturday, Sudawan Wangsuphakitkosol, minister of culture, presided over a press conference at Isara Winitchai Throne Hall, Bangkok National Museum, announcing the inscription of Phu Phra Bat Historical Park as a Cultural World Heritage site. The event featured a live broadcast from the 46th regular session of the World Heritage Committee, held from July 21-31 in New Delhi, India. In the third agenda, UNESCO declared Phu Phra Bat Historical Park in Udon Thani Province a Cultural World Heritage site under the name “Phu Phra Bat: Witness to Sema Culture of the Dvaravati Period”. Phu Phra Bat Historical Park is Thailand's eighth World Heritage site and its fifth Cultural World Heritage site. It is also Udon Thani province's second World Heritage site, following the Ban Chiang Archeological Site, which was inscribed in 1992. According to the National Museum’s website, Phu Phra Bat Historical Park is located on a mountain called Phu Phra Bat in Ban Phue district, Udon Thani province. It is part of the Phu Phan mountain range, a sandstone range west of Udon Thani, with an average elevation of about 320-350 metres above sea level. The area is generally open forest, covered with natural hardwood species. Archeological surveys have revealed that Phu Phra Bat has been inhabited since prehistoric times, about 2,500 to 3,000 years ago, as evidenced by more than 54 sites on the mountain with ancient paintings. Additionally, natural rock shelters have been modified into religious sites by people from various cultures, including Dvaravati, Khmer, Lan Xang and Rattanakosin. These archeological traces illustrate the social development of humans in Northeast Thailand. Therefore, the Fine Arts Department requested the use of 3,430 rai of national forest reserve from the Department of Forestry. The area was officially registered as a historical site in the Royal Gazette, Volume 98, on April 28, 1981. Today, Phu Phra Bat Historical Park is under the management of the Eighth Regional Office of Fine Arts in Khon Kaen, Department of Fine Arts, Ministry of Culture. The park oversees 78 registered historical sites. Its main missions include the preservation, conservation, and research of archeological sites and artefacts within and around the park. It also serves as a cultural-tourism and educational site for the public.2 points

I have an arrangement with one of the guys to meet him outside One, pay the off fee and he can return later to do the show. However, I do intend to pay my entrance fee a couple more times before I leave Bangkok. I can't see how this bar can survive if the customers don't increase. Btw the S&M show I saw one night last week was a young guy who was whipped so hard that I started to flinch.2 points

I don't know if any of you watch Drag Race France, but in a recent episode, one of the judges, Kiddy Smile, blasted one of the contestants for wearing braids in her hair, calling it "cultural appropriation" (this was a hair coutoure challenge). I felt dumbfounded by her voicing this opinion, given that I had recently seen Kiddy Smiler herself do the exact same thing, wearing an exaggerated Mexican sombrero in her outfit: Wearing portions of styles typically associated with other cultures can be regarded in either a positive light, as in an homage, or in a negative light, as in an offense. Obviously the intention of the wearer should be taken into account, IMHO. However, I would think that if one wants to voice the opinion (and force a contestant to lip synch for her life) that these stylistic expressions, regardless of intention, are always offensive, then one should at least practice what one preaches. I definitely believe that while "cultural appropriation" can be distasteful, hypocrisy represents an even greater sin. 😉1 point

I had friends that did both MBA's and PhD's in Thailand and were very happy with the education and the cost (compared to USA). But, the TA's were not available for them. at Hot Male on 2nd floor that have go-go bar. Like in every go-go bar in Thailand this is where you will see boys presenting themselves on the stage , usually bare chested , sometimes in jeans , sometimes in just briefs with number pinned somewhere. That indicates he is available to be taken out . Around 10.30 they will have a show with finale most likely being big cock show after which boys will circulate audience for tip in exchange for a feel of their rigid thingy. T you not obligated to tip but in such case don't touch guy either as it will be bad form, just look is for free. I usually tip 50 or 100 , some others just 20 drink is likely 500 and it's in reality admission ticket to a bar with 1 drink included. As you enter you will be seated and asked what do you want to drink. With your order invoice will be brought and placed in bin in front of you , you will pay when you will be leaving but feel free to pay right away if you wish so -I usually do. You can invite boy to seat with you, then either ask mamasan (waiter) to call him over or , like I do , motion him yourself. You should offer him a drink which , depending on bar will be the same , slightly cheaper or slightly dearer than your drink, we are talking 50-100 baht deviation either way, in Hot Male if I recall it's the same. If you subsequently decide to off (take with you ) that guy , you will get another invoice in your bin. In such a case no need to tip guy you are taking. If you decide to send hi back after a while you should tip him 100-300 may be even more depending on length of time you were holding him and how things went under the table. A we all know , hand holding and cock holding are not exactly the same. Try to be discreet though , just follow boy's lead. Keep in mind if you not planning to take boy with you by holding him you are depriving him chance of getting business so either compensate for that with higher tip or sent him back with his tip after he is done with his drink. Off fee for taking boy is almost universal 500, only exception I know in Bangkok is offing models from Moonlight which is 1000, floor boys there, often as attractive as models are still at 500 Waiter at Hot Male beer bar on ground floor can be taken home too for the same 500 but sometimes you may need to wait till end of their shift. And the raping lying crook is not only lying about the future. He is lying about the past. The raping lying crook has been here before, and done this before. Now it will be even more extreme and anti-democratic. From Project 2025 website: These are some of the things the extremists at Heritage take credit for already doing in Trump 1.0 - Trump leaving Paris climate accords. No, there is no climate change. - Trump reducing federal funding for highways. Why do infrastructure instead of cutting taxes for the rich? - Trump defunding and delegitimizing Affordable Care Act implementation and trying to repeal it completely. - Trump defunding any group that provides abortion counseling. - Trump eliminate teen pregnancy prevention grants. (Women should stay at home and have babies, right JD?) - Trump undermining and kill federal safety protections for workers in OSHA. Many of the worst ideas in Trump 1.0 were not adopted because they did not have the votes, especially after the 2018 midterms. The proposals for Trump 2.0 are more extreme.1 point -

Fortaleza Part I Fortaleza, in the Brazilian state of Ceará, is a popular domestic destination for Brazilians due to its stunning beaches and pleasant weather. However, its high crime rates have deterred many foreign visitors. Infrastructure problems, including poorly maintained roads, sidewalks, and tourist attractions, have also contributed to the decline in tourism. The COVID-19 pandemic severely impacted the industry, leading to a slow recovery. Out of all the Brazilian cities I have visited so far, Fortaleza seems to reflect what the majority of Brazilian cities are like outside of Rio and São Paulo. When the people I met in Fortaleza described the interior of Ceará, I realized how little of Brazil I have seen and know. The best part of my stay at the Holiday Inn is having a balcony to enjoy the beautiful sunrise over the horizon. The hotel is situated between Praia de Meireles and Praia de Iracema, with the beachfront heavily patrolled by local police both day and night. There's a lively night market vibe that's very fun to explore in the evening, with food, shopping, and live music. English is very uncommon in this city, but daily practice is making me more confident in my conversational skills, helping me connect better with the Brazilians I meet. Upon arriving at the green gates of the California Terma Club, I noticed a small watchtower and barbed wire strung across the outer walls. It felt like I was entering a prison complex. One has to push the doorbell and the guy in the watch tower will buzz you in. The sauna featured a mini bakery, a bar area, a small pool hall, a regular tv room, and a tv room playing adult videos. The smell of salgados is a constant in the air in CTC. Here is the disgusting part, the area where many free cabins and a couple of suites are located smells like piss and other bodily fluids. Changing into towels is mandatory at CTC for clients, which benefits no one except the mosquitoes. The open air feature of CTC means none of the room have a/c and the facility relies entirely on nature and a couple of fans for ventilation and airflow. The GPs are the next-door types, similar to what one would find in Bangu, some have a small belly and almost none are muscular. There was a Nigerian who is an exchange student working there at the time of my visit. One thing I noticed is that unlike in Rio/SP, the GPs do not approach clients 85% of the time. I was there for two nights, I did not find a GP that I like. Exiting CTC, you have to give the receipt to the guy in the tower and he will buzz you out.1 point -
After the above panegyric to FreshBoys, my remaining days/nights in Bangkok settled into a routine. Thursday dinner at Mango Tree, then jazz club, the return to FreshBoys, I like to be with people who are enjoying life on the stage a in the audience, and performers in the audience. Thursday, the break from routine was to schedule as off with Nam for Friday afternoon. Friday afternoon, Nam came to the hotel. He arrived at early for our meet up. He stayed until almost 6! Don’t jumble to any conclusions! The intermingling of limbs was about the length of a massage. After he had expended himself, he rested his head on my arm, then he started snoring, turned over, stopped snoring. Woke up when CoCo arrived bringing his Pattaya backpack. Nam took a shower, three of us chatted about nothing. Nam left, CoCo and I went back for more German food. I said good bye to Pao, Jazz Club, Fresh Boys still full house. Seated tonight on opposite side of house. At end of show rotation, there were 22 boys in place of the 40 at opening. Numerous offs. CoCo and back to hotel for practice for Pattaya. Up in time to find driver from Mike’s arriving early (as anticipated). Arrived Pattaya to find that is the first day of a two day religious festival. No liquor can be sold, no entertainment venues are operating. We go to Dongtan, more folks on the sands. Hotel arranged for dinner for us two. After dinner we walked the darkened and empty Jomtien. I had been complaining from the drive began from Bangkok of a heavy deep chest cough. While not noticed at the beach, it came back with a vengeance once back at The Poseidon. Then came some chills and my mind goes “Damn I’m getting sick again in Thailand” and well damn it. Coco verified I had a termperature. My body made me sleep, cold sweats. My companion responded with hot and cold compresses, went out a found a pharmacy around 2 in the morning. This was repeated on Sunday. Monday the religious holiday was over and we visited Pattaya, the Walking Street, Boys Town, went back to the beach. Still not at 50%. Up Tuesday morning at 4 to catch my flight to Tokyo on my way to Osaka, where I’m writing this. with time changes, it was over 12 hours on airports and planes and waiting. I said a sorrowful good by. Recife Recife, the capital of Pernambuco in Northeast Brazil, is often referred to as the "Venice of Brazil" due to its waterways and bridges. While in Recife, one is likely to visit Marco Zero and from there it only cost 10rs to take a water taxi to Parque de Esculturas Francisco Brennand, a small island featuring works of the famous Brazilian sculptor. I spent three days in this city with a Brazilian friend, with the main purpose of the trip being to meet him and lift his spirits. Depression and poverty can be a dangerous combination. Unfortunately, that also meant cutting back on my visits to saunas. I only visited Termas Boa Vista on my last night in the city, despite being a week night, the visit was a success. Uber is a must in this region of Brazil, the sun sets early in July, the touristic neighborhood of Recife felt okay but on the way to TBV, I passed through some questionable neighbors that look dangerous especially at night. TBV itself felt secured, clean, and the management is welcoming. The bar area in TBV had live music and the acoustics was pleasant. The drinks were about 1/2 the price of SP and Rio and the suite was superior in comparison. There were only about seven GPs working, in general the men in NE brazil felt very masculine, more tan, and don't flash their smile as freely as Cariocas. Despite with only 7 GP on premise, I had 3-4 candidates in mind. I came to an agreement with J very quickly and we went to the presidential suite. I was blown away by the amount of passion that came from J inside the suite, easily the best kisser I ever encountered in Brazil. As @ShivRoy stated in his report, the GPs accept 100r without haggling. It was the right choice to visit TBV on my last night and I wish I had more days in Recife because during the weekend, TBV stays open until 6 AM! Overall, I can see Recife becoming a repeat destination in the future.1 point

Campo Grande is a surprisingly upscale city of nearly one million people. It has wide boulevards with handsomely landscaped medians, numerous large parks, and an extraordinary aquarium. I am visiting Campo Grande for three days in between seeing the jaguars in north Pantanel (a few hours from Cuiabá where I did not overnight) and going south to Bonito to see the macaws, giant anteaters, grottos, and drift snorkeling in crystal-clear waters. In Campo Grande, I found two saunas and went to both last night: Sauna Espaço Relax and Sauna Titan. Both have nice, clean two-story facilities. Titan is a little larger, but Relax has a pool. Last night neither place had GPs. However, Relax had a handsome, full-service masseur (R$120+100tip). Relax had only two customers, but one was a thirty-something, fit sub btm eager to be used. Both the masseur and the sub were fun. Sauna Titan had about 16-18 customers, about half were early 30s and half were 45+ and on the heavy side. No sign of the Afro-Brazilian gene pool could be seen. I was spent from Relax, but I did play with one beefy 30ish guy who needed his pecs worked over while he jacked. Outside of Sao Paulo, Campo Grande has probably the largest proportion of descendants of the many Japanese immigrants who came to Brazil a century ago. A couple of them were at Titan. Apparently, Bonito has no sauna with or without GPs, but if you have any tips, please share!1 point -

These are my notes detailing the trains that I caught and how much it cost me. file:///C:/Users/User/Downloads/Singapore-to-Bangkok.pdf1 point
