Spent a few weeks in Manila and Boracay. This section isn’t very active, so thought I’d type up a quick report. Stayed in Makati in Manila, near the red light district. I would avoid this area. It’s very congested with traffic and filled with people asking for money and trying to sell you viagra and cialis on the streets. It’s not dangerous, but a stark difference when compared to BGC. Public transit is poor in the city so you will be taking Grab a lot. Walking is harder than in other Asian countries due. The traffic flow made more sense in Vietnam than here, for example. Sometimes the traffic light would be red, yet a traffic attendant would still be directing traffic to keep moving, even as a group of pedestrians tried to cross on a walk signal. It literally makes no sense, so don’t try and comprehend it. There is no “rule.” Even motorcycle drivers seem less capable of navigating around pedestrians as compared to Vietnam, where as long as you keep a steady pace, you can cross even the busiest streets. Most hotels have security/doormen. If you invite anyone over, they will often take the ID of your guest and register them in a log book. When the guest leaves, you will be checked on and made sure you’re okay before the guest is allowed to leave. You can get past this by walking your guest in and out, but if you are nervous of people knowing your business, keep in mind that it’s impossible to be discreet. I used Grindr only while here. It’s very active. In Makati, there were tons of profiles less than 500m away. If you are white, you will get 50 messages per day or more. the typical conversation goes like “Hello, where are you staying? What are you doing? Can I come now?” They don’t ask for photos or nudes or talk for long. If you’re white, they want you regardless of age or weight or dick size or sex position. Almost everyone is a “top.” The men are… well, not my type. When compared to other Asian countries, the men on the apps are young and cute-faced, with either thin bodies or chubby bodies. Many times you will ask for nudes and they say “I don’t have.” You have a phone, right? Instead they will push you to come immediately. Avoid these encounters. If you invite someone over, expect them to stay a while, or try. Expect questions like “do you have a boyfriend?” Or “can we be boyfriends?” Within minutes of meeting. If you have sex, it’s not uncommon for them to say they love you. If they message you, be upfront about not being interested, otherwise they will continuously message you every single day, and sometimes even find your social media profiles and reach out there. I did not see a lot of foreigners in Manila. Many said they go to the islands. In Boracay though, it was the exact same. Many say the options are better here. This was not the case. While some of the locals are quite hot, dark skinned, lean and somewhat muscular, a little rough around the edges, these are the straight boat men. On the apps, it’s the same. Chubby, or older, or very young, and clingy. The beaches are beautiful and you don’t get harassed as much as other beach destinations, but this country is not one I’d go to for sex. Unless you are looking for smaller dicks, boys that will cling to you like you’re a trophy, and headaches, I’d say this is not your place.

Editorial note: I wrote this section of the report, thought I’d hit submit reply, but unable to find it. So…here’s another go… OK, OK! Too much drama, the chalk dust was a metaphor for my loss of will power. Standing outside of Good Boys, Coco and I had a brief conversation about getting together the next night and the where and whens logistics…and that was that… for the moment. Next morning after breakfast, it was up and out and errand filled. I went to Prime for a foot massage which allowed me to go to Reader’s designated massage value area of Saphan Kwai and a return to KMan spa. When I got to Good Boys, CoCo and two mamasans were outside along with a mix of boys and waiters and girls from the various new clubs and girl bars that have opened in the last year. There is a steady stream of Jupitereans dropping by to say hello to CoCo and as they do, I learn some more about my companion. He’d once in the not too distant past been a Jupiterean. During the parade of artists circling and intersecting in and with the audience Coco received a steady stream or fist bumps/Thailand equivalents. I didn’t notice any major changes to the show room since last year. The runway stage is surrounded on tree sides by tables with seating that is occupied by bottle holders, There are three with two patrons each, one with one grande dame presiding, one with three patrons, and one that is filled in with 6 as the show starts - similar I suppose to how the Academy Awards have a pool of extras to fill seats during the show when the stars go to poop, keeping the place looking full. Beyond this first row, the tiered seating to the right and left of the stage is full at about 80%. The seats directly facing the stage but behind the front rows is sparsely seated. Show is/was much as I remembered it. The hula hoop guy which I gushed about several years back is now looking wan and a bit ancient history. There were no real “wows” but no real horrors. Just a well tended to entertainment that attracted more women than men to make up the audience.

If you ask me, the Democratic campaign should start, first thing in the morning, with a laser focus on what Project 2025 has in store for American voters and their families. That would include what it proposes, who's behind it, and exactly how they plan to make it happen. For now, forget about Biden, forget about Harris, and let candidate selection take its course as it always does. If Democrats keep the focus on Project 2025, all of the messaging goes to defeating the current Republican agenda as outlined in Project 2025. In my opinion, it doesn't make sense right now for Democrats to focus all their attention on the Presidential election. What if Biden and Harris get elected and the Senate and the House go to Republicans? The Democrats need both the Executive and Legislative branches if they hope to get anything done and that includes retaining a democracy that's responsive to what its citizens want, rather than what the Heritage Foundation wants. I'm sure no political genius, but even I can see that there are bigger issues than squeezing out a narrow win for the Presidency and roiling up everybody in the process. Democrats need to let folks know every day in every way that Project 2025 and the Republicans who back it are planning to convert a democracy, in which citizens have a voice, into an autocracy, in which they don't. In fact, while Democrats take the next few weeks to sort out their ticket, I'll even propose an ad that can run in the meantime. Don't lose your voice! Keep 'em out.

So what we know based on this poll is that in a race of two knowns, Trump/Biden, this poll says Trump can get up to 49 %. In a race with a lesser known, Harris, Trump gets up to 47 %. In other words, we really have no idea what happens if and when Kamala is the nominee, and the focus of intense national scrutiny. But one thing we do know, for sure, is idiots like @EmmetK won't be able to resist saying dumb and racist things about Black women that will drive Blacks to Kamala. One other thing we know for sure. The Pennsylvania Senate race is not even close. Democrat Casey is clobbering Republican McCormick by six points, way more than Trump is clobbering Biden or Kamala in national polls. So it is one of an almost universal set of data points that shows one person is a drag on the generic Democratic ticket: Joe Biden. Baldwin is up 5 in WI, Slotkin is up 5 in MI, Gallego is up 3 in AZ, Rosen is up 5 in NV, Brown is up 5 in OH. Tester, who was leading in every poll months ago, is now down 1.5 %. So it makes it very clear that there is something specific about Joe Biden that makes him run worse than almost every other Democrat. And now we have heard why with our own ears. I don't think seeing is believing, in this case. Most Americans agree both Trump and Biden look too old. The issue is hearing. Something has changed in Biden in the last year. That seems clear. You can listen to his speeches given in 2022, when Democrats crushed the red wave, and hear the difference. That's Fall 2022. He seemed fine then. He does not sound the same today. Kamala, meanwhile, burns with passion when she speaks.

While 86% of Democrats might be fearful for the Constitution and America with a Trump Presidency, 86% of them do not want him as a candidate, one who would energize their base and lead to the Republicans defeating themselves as they did in 2020.

Biden's weakness hasn't been governing - he's been a competent and consequential president - it's been in campaigning. Biden has not been able to hit the broad side of Trump's barn of lies with a coherent message. I've said this before, Biden isn't only running against Trump, he's also running against the former campaigner in chief Obama. Democrats got used to a cool articulate candidate who represented a generational change. It's unusual in politics to go back to an older generation (the elderly Trump and Biden) once that generational change has happened.

I don't think Vance hates Trump. He might not respect his incompetence, or his laziness, but I doubt he hates him. I could see Vance admiring Trump's ability to lie without remorse and peddle bullshit as if it was fact. I expect Vance wants to learn from the master. Replace the master of course - he is ambitious - and throw Trump under the bus later in life if that suits is narrative of the moment.

I agree with you. The only thing I'll add is that the Presidential candidates have the megaphone. This actually worked well in 2020 and 2022. Biden led the message that Trump is a threat to democracy. The message was echoed and augmented by lots and lots of winning Democratic candidates. Talking about all the specific threats to democracy - and the working class - in hundreds of pages of authoritarian crap written by (name lots of former Trump White House and department employees) is exactly the right message.

The worst thing that happens...not the sleeping alone, I prefer that...but the not hooking up part. The per diem to travel to Thailand, or anywhere....makes me crazy to lose 1 night to doing/ being with no one. I can do that from the comfort of my own bed.

I went to Tawan (One) bar last night. There were only about 4 customers there. Three boys were standing on the stage and a few others were sitting around, mainly glued to their phones. What an exciting election this would become if Biden gracefully bowed out, released his delegates and pledged to support the new nominee. The DFL convention would be one for the history books. We'd see a wave of new and switched voters. It could very well turn the tide in the presidential race and certainly help immensely down-ballot.
