    Print shop in Silom

I was in need of a print shop to make copy of visa for upcoming trip and was lucky to find one in the first block of Soi Saladeang (right side). The sign says passport photo and name of shop is Photo Unique. They also print photos. Prices are very reasonable. There used to be numerous places to get this work done when cyber cafes were popular. Mobile phones and tablets changed all that.

    A new, old massage shop

Thanks for this. I came here about 5 years ago, and looks like it is still in the same place. I thought they had closed permanently. Anyway, glad to see that there is another massage place for us, and recalling my last visit, extras were definitely had.

    A new, old massage shop

I was taking a shortcut from Rama 4 to Surawong this afternoon when I came upon signs by a sub Soi, advertising Magic Touch Massage. There was a young man standing nearby who asked if I was interested. Told him I was on my way to an appointment but I’d be interested in seeing the shop. He guided be down the short soi and turned right where the shop came into view. Without time to investigate any further, I accepted a business card, thanked him and moved on. As I walked on I jogged my memory and recalled a shop by the same name that once occupied one of the shop houses on the main sub Soi (Soi Wat Hua Lam Phong) several years past. After returning to my room later, I tried to connect via the LINE address on the card but received a message that it was oversubscribed (never seen that before). A cursory search produced a lead on the Travelgay website. https://www.travelgay.com/venue/magic-touch-by-the-tree-bangkok There’s also a Facebook page: https://en-gb.facebook.com/MagicTOUCHbangkok/ Some pics of Massuers that caught my attention: Mr. King The reviews are a bit conflicting. Some say no extras while others praise them. In any case, another shop is always welcome. Directions: The entrance to Soi Wat Hua Lam Phong is immediately to the right of Le Meridien Hotel and directly opposite Cafe Amazon on Surawong rd. Look for sign on your left.

  5. Its very easy to organize as guys are happy to travel with you, go to great restaurants, bars and nightclubs; visit touristic sites, stay in nice hotels. Somehow you should test the travel partner before you commit.. if he fits as travel companion. I did not pay daily fees, but covered all the costs. Try to understand what is your motivation, if you like his company for 4-5 days when he is tired/moody/farting, how you resolve disagreements, etc. Both sides should have an open discussion on the expectations. Its a mini-marriage😀. I had 3 travel companions and i am happily single. Maybe the relationship is different when you pay daily fees, then I guess its more “yes, of course honey”.

  6. Most like Walking Street is Jomtien Complex aka Supertown. A large area with many bars and massages shops but no go-go bars although there are a couple of bars with boys dancing on a stage or between the tables. Boyztown area has 5 go-go bars plus other gay bars. Sunee Plaza is a bit of a ghost town with just two go-go bars and two beer bars. But Winner Bar in Sunee has some nice lads to make it worth the visit. And there is also Nice Boys there.

    A new, old massage shop

That's right, I remember that now. I remember going to the main shop and the lady at the front asked if I want a boy massage and when I said yes I was told to go down the small alley to the side where the other shop was. Seems like the 'main shop' is now a barber (google map street view).

  10. Day 9, last one. All good things come to an end. After O left I tidied myself , packed whatever meager possession I had with me plus soap and coffee I always take home from Thailand. At 8 we had last breakfast with bkkmfj who decided to stay few more days in Bangkok. It seems he did not waste that time and got acquainted with certain Cambodian. My flight was at 12.30 and there are a lot of good things I can say about daytime flights , no matter how long. In airport it was breeze again, in 20 minutes I was already past of all procedures ready to board. 12 hours and 2 books later I was back in Amsterdam and at midnight I landed at my destination. It was only 8 days in Thailand but thinking back - it was one hell of time and certainly seemed much longer. On the day of departure , events from Pattaya , just week before seemed like very distant memory. That is advantage of being busy on vacations. When bkkmfj expressed an idea of going with me to Bangkok I was happy wsith idea but since we never spent more than few hours over drinks and bar hopping together, I had one hope – he will not turn out to be one of those people we all met on our travels - one of type which when asked ‘ so what do you want to do after lunch ?’ answer ‘ doesn’t matter” and when you say “ ok , then lets go to Golden Mount “ they immediately counter “ why not to Grand Palace?” By grace of God , we did not have any such exchanges. In fact he adhered very well to mantra I always use when travel with company – ‘ we travel together but everybody is on his own vacation” so if we need to split for hour , half or even whole day there’s no drama. Things worked very well, thank you bkkmfj. Sorry for all that hotel hoping but I’m gladly adding both Heaven’s Boutique and De Arni to my roster of places to be considered. I knew this before but this trip enforced old wisdom that it’s better not to built a trip around boys we expect or hope to see, 4 guys in Pattaya gone for good or temporarily. Two at Jupiter- the same, on eat Banana- added to the list od MIAs. And that is only first's 3 day harvest. Lesson learned and in future it will be whoever life will push my way. Dreams are good but reality even better I’m glad Senso returned back to my schedule and both guys from there compensated for those few which were missing somewhere else. There may be those who area longing to days of old when bars were full, boys dancing almost naked and drinks half price but I’m happy to report that Thailand continues to be mine of fun and digging it it’s very east and still affordable. All we need is money , nothing new here an desire to look for fun, that proverbial half full part of glass.

3 areas: 1. Boyztown 2. Jomtien (area around Zing Resort and Spa and Agate Pattaya) 3. Sunee Plaza (though this is just a couple of gogo bars, as I understand it, and not much like Walking street)

  18. From The Thaiger Despite a slight relief due to declining jet fuel prices and increased flight capacity, airfares are expected to remain high in the post-pandemic travel surge and are unlikely to revert to pre-pandemic levels soon. AirAsia Aviation’s CEO Bo Lingam spoke on the changes in travelling patterns post-pandemic in an interview. “[The aircraft] load factor is around 90%, this was unheard of pre-Covid.” The aviation sector has undergone significant changes following the pandemic, with pent-up travel demand driving ticket prices higher than inflation rates in many regions. Concurrently, supply chain issues, such as aircraft delivery delays and unexpected engine maintenance, have hampered airlines’ abilities to expand flight offerings. AirAsia aims to leverage this robust demand to create the world’s first low-cost carrier network by 2030, centred on its Southeast Asian hubs. This year, the airline added flights to Almaty, Kazakhstan, and launched operations with its Cambodian unit. The next milestone is the commencement of flights to Nairobi, Kenya, in October. 21. It's not very clear from this article that when they mention a Schengen-type visa, are they just talking about a visa that allows you to enter in any of the ASEAN countries or they are talking about no border controls among ASEAN members by land, sea or air?! If it's the former, I don't see much benefits for most of the members of this forum, maybe only being able to stay up to 90 days in places like: Vietnam, Cambodia, Laos or Thailand where now you can only stay up to 30 0r 60 days. If it's the latter then the people more happy about it will actually be the citizens of the poorer ASEAN countries like: Myanmar, Cambodia and Laos as it will make it way more easier to work (although illegally) in the richer ASEAN countries like Singapore and Brunei, or even Malaysia and Thailand. Honestly, don't really see that happening anytime soon. Even in Europe poorer countries like Romania or Bulgaria only joined the Schengen area much later and after strong opposition, even though they had been EU members for a while. I can't imagine Singapore letting anyone from Myanmar or Laos pouring in their city without any checks.

  22. Congrats Vinapu and MFJ you two are a marvel! I'm happy to hear you had a great time. I know it is hard enough to get two people organized on a trip, but I wonder if there are any couples who would also like to hang out together? My BH and I will be in Pattaya during July and August. We are both "mature" if you get my drift. Singles are great too. More friends are always welcome!

  25. From The Nation Looking back at the biggest news in the Thai capital market over the past year, the colossal fraud at Stark Corporation Public Co Ltd undoubtedly stands out, causing alarm among stock market participants. This company once had a valuation as high as 60 billion baht and was even included in the SET100 index, which lists the top 100 largest companies in the Thai stock market. Stark borrowed huge sums of money from banks and bondholders, resulting in damages amounting to tens of billions of baht to the lenders. The grand Stark fraud began when Phelps Dodge, an American electrical wire manufacturer, decided to sell its troubled Thai business. The buyer was Vanarat Tangkaravakun, the eldest heir of the TOA paint empire, for approximately 3 billion baht. However, the deeper aspects of acquiring the electrical wire manufacturing business involved a key aide, Chanin Yensudchai, who masterminded the deal. Chanin, a former executive of Phyathai Hospital, had experience in business acquisitions and assisted Vanarat in strategising the business takeover. Phelps Dodge's Thai operations had been plagued by losses, but surprisingly, in just a few years after Vanarat’s acquisition, the company was in the black. By 2019, Vanarat decided to list Phelps Dodge on the Thai stock market, not through a typical IPO but through a process called reverse takeover, also known as “backdoor listing”. continues at https://www.nationthailand.com/business/trading-investment/40039046

  27. From Thai Enquirer Three major cases went before the Constitutional Court last week. Of the most anticipated cases — the potential dissolution of the Move Forward Party and ouster of Prime Minister Srettha Thavisin — we received word that the court will need more time for deliberation next month. The Constitutional Court did make one major ruling, however, on the legality of the Senate election procedures. The court had received a petition claiming that the law governing how the new Senate is to be elected violated the 2017 constitution. The constitution had mandated that the election process should be as insulated as possible from political influence; the petitioners claimed that the rules did not observe the spirit of the charter. The Constitutional Court’s opinion is that the election procedures are legal. This now opens the way for a new upper house. The current election process for the Senate has never been tried before, and it has been described as perhaps the most complicated method for selecting any body of parliament in the world. It is so byzantine that I will refer you to Dr. Napon Jatusripitak’s excellent explanation for a full explanation rather than attempt to summarize it here. The gist of it, though, is this. Previously, the Senate had been fully appointed, handpicked by members of the previous military government. Now aspiring candidates were asked to apply, and they then went through multiple rounds of selection at the district, provincial, and (soon) the national levels. The candidates vote amongst themselves. It is a system has created perverse incentives for the Senate candidates. Instead of survival of the fittest the rule drafters have instead built an electoral arena more suited for the endurance of the weakest. Why support a stronger candidate if you are a weaker candidate, who will minimize your own chances of getting through? While fame and fortune is not necessarily a benchmark for senatorial capability, it is indeed odd that in the provincial round, many of the most well-known candidates did not make the cut. Former senator Rosana Tositrakul, for example, who once received the most popular votes in a senate election, was voted out. The same went for other famous politicians and media personalities. One unsuccessful candidate, Nuttaa Mahattana, put it well: “When people choose a candidate, they choose based on who they want to do the job. When candidates pick amongst themselves, they will often vote with the goal of taking themselves as deep into the selection process as they can. How would I eliminate other contenders? Who can I trade votes with?” One consequence of the fall of so many “big names” is also the difficulty in predicting how the next Senate will behave. Until we see the final list of candidates who made it through, and examine closely their previous backgrounds, we cannot speak with any certainty on how the next Senate will lean. There is already speculation, however, that former prime minister Somchai Wongsawat, a brother in law of Thaksin Shinawatra, is a possible candidate for Senate President. As it stands, he has a good chance of becoming a senator, having won the most votes in Chiang Mai so far. If that scenario is realized, that would indicate that the next Senate is likely to have a very different makeup to the current one. It could be friendlier to the current government, several of whose members were behind the ethics case against Srettha. Gone would be the final vestiges of former deputy prime minister Prawit Wongsuwan’s decisive influence over the upper house. continues at https://www.thaienquirer.com/52454/the-next-senate-will-be-very-different/

    A few days in Bangkok

Last week had four days in Bangkok - stayed at Tarntawan - deluxe room was okay but myself being older getting in and out of the tub/shower needed caution - no useful rails. I ventured for old.time sake to Super A on the first night for an hour. About 8 lads there all wearing white shirts. Looked like reasonably new settees along the wall with several tables. Super A gone upmarket ?? A different vibe from 5 or so.years ago although the upstairs room stil available and the annoying habit of the mamasans sittng closeby remains.Off fee 500 thb. Drinks 200 thb. Moved on to Freshboys - saw some of the show, Nice boys dressed in white shorts. A tall lean Viet lad who does the shows always takes my interest No 28. I find the shows there entertaining and varied - lots of nakedness and action. But the frequent requests for a drink or tip from others even when you have a lad sitting.with you becomes wearing. The cabaret diva dressed in red was spectacular. 400 thb drinks After that i went to a very crowded GoodBoys ( exScrewboys).20+ plus lads dressed in white briefs. My fancy was taken by short slim moustached tattooed lad who was great company. The shows there seems to be cabaret focussed with a few intermittent boy (?) acts - i get the impression these acts are part of a circuit troupe. I returned the next night and the place was about one third full Sadly I succumbed to Bangkok belly next day and all fun activities ceased Photos of work at Raya Hotel - and the old Soi - and added.extras at Tarntawan

  36. Barbara Res, an executive with The Trump Organization for nearly twenty years, offered some advice for the Biden debate team: “I wish [Biden] would goad him and make him go nuts, because when he goes nuts, he’s really crazy,” Res said. Not sure I can make it through the whole debate, especially as there's a test pattern on opposite, but I will be checking the late news to see if there's anything new for the scrapbook.
