From The Thaiger By Bob Scott A deaf shoeshiner in Pattaya has captured the admiration of netizens for his perseverance and dedication. Known as Kai, his story surfaced online after a local journalist saw him cleaning a tourist’s shoes on Pattaya Beach. Kai earns his living by offering shoe cleaning services to tourists. Despite being deaf and mute, he communicates with customers using a sign that reads, Hiring Clean Shoes. Each day, he arrives at the beach equipped with his shoe-cleaning tools: a brush, towel, and polish, ready to work. Charging 60 baht per pair, Kai meticulously cleans and polishes shoes, transforming them from sandy and worn to pristine condition. His dedication and attention to detail often leave his customers highly satisfied. The journalist who spoke with Kai using sign language noted the quality of his work and his commitment to his craft. Despite his hearing disability, Kai has managed to build a loyal clientele, especially among foreign tourists who appreciate his diligence and the high standard of his service. His story stands as a testament to the power of determination and hard work in overcoming life’s challenges.3 points

The event was organised by SWING with participation of Jomtien Complex, and the businesses within, plus a few external ones. Besides a broken sign on the top of the street, which I am told is being taken down, there was no "SuperTown" sponsorship or involvement with Pride. Another failed Thai project, thank fuck. Sounds like a theme park for special needs kids. There was even a part of the parade with a ladyboy massage shop. Although I am not sure where in Jomtien/Pattaya they were located. They were on foot behind the truck I was on. While you are correct, I didn't see any BoyzTown business involved, I saw many boys from that area both in the parade and enjoying the festivities. If all the boys and staff are there enjoying it, I don't really care about the participation of the Chinese serving establishments. It was a great day, and a really good boost for Jomtien Complex bar owners.3 points -

An interesting piece of inaccurate self publicity. There is reference to Austrian Airlines 'modern fleet'. In fact they have one of the oldest fleets among European carriers, age 17.2 years. The average is around 11 years!2 points -
From Pattaya Mail By Barry Kenyon Srettha Thavisin, the Thai prime minister, has finally announced that the proposed tax on tourist arrivals has been cancelled. The suggested imposition, 300 baht at airports (around US$9) and 150 baht by land or sea, had initially been suggested as the country emerged from the covid pandemic. It had been opposed by the travel industry on the grounds of ambiguity and confusion. The idea from the National Tourism Policy Committee was originally promoted as a way of funding the medical costs of foreign tourists involved in accidents or who sadly passed from the mortal coil. However, it quickly became apparent that only 10 percent of the fund would be devoted to insurance and would be highly discretionary. The proposed fund was then marketed as an essential part of repairing and restoring tourist sites such as some temples and archaeological sites. Examples put forward were to install public lavatories at tourist attractions or to restore religious images to their former glory. It was argued that the huge increase in tourist numbers post-covid would require a subsidy from the visitors themselves to keep popular sites from decay. The issue of how to collect the entry tax was never resolved. It did not apply to Thai citizens, diplomats, work permit holders and babies under two years. Holders of the Elite visa and one-year extensions of stay, based on retirement or marriage, grumbled that they were not “tourists” in any case. Airlines opposed the tax being included in tickets as they could not tell (without detailed inquiry) who should pay it and who should not. The next suggestion was to install special booths at airports and land borders, an idea quickly discarded because the inevitable long queues could easily ruin Thailand’s positive marketing initiatives. Pre-entry use of credit cards and QR codes was put forward, but was again abandoned as an easy solution. For example, some cards refused to accept transactions for small sums whilst processing can be a time-consuming process. The issues arising from tourist insurance were addressed in February 2024 by the establishment of the Thailand Traveller Safety Website. This permits cash refunds of between one million and 300,000 baht for untimely deaths and injuries arising from accidents. However, the scheme applies only to those with a “tourist” visa and expires in August 2024. Pre-registration before a calamity is essential for claimants. Mr Srettha, in his cancellation address, explained that the abandoned scheme wasn’t really worth the effort. He placed his confidence in the growing number of overseas visitors which means more revenue to the national cash pot. But expats – especially those living on pre-taxed pensions and policies – would now appreciate frankness about the Thai Revenue policy on taxing overseas income, both remitted and worldwide. It’s another hot potato.2 points

Pride 2024 Pattaya (2 parades)
BL8gPt and one other reacted to bkkmfj2648 for a topic
A small review of the Pattaya Community Pride 2024 event which took place yesterday, 8 June 2024. The parade route started from the famous Colosseum Show Pattaya building on Thepprasit road and wound its way onto Thappraya road until its termination point at our beloved gay Dongtan beach. I believe that this marching route is approximately 2km and should take approximately 24 minutes under normal walking circumstances. Fellow forum member, JD100 and I arrived around 5pm to the Dongtan beach police box and the parade was just starting to arrive at its destination. This is where it started at the Colosseum: This is where it ended at Dongtan beach. Parade arriving into the Dongtan beach area. 20240608_171008.mp4 Then for like 2 hours there were people up on the stage talking about a million things (90% in Thai). Many important local gay people, drag queens, parade organizers, SWING presenters and staff, Pattaya mayor, etcetra. --> I believe that the Pattaya mayor is the gentleman seated with the rainbow spiral t-shirt. Then the speeches concluded and the fireworks started. By this moment - around 7pm, JD100 and I were hungry so we went to get a bit to eat in the nearby SINT restaurant. Unfortunately, I discovered today that once the presenters and politicians got off the stage they transformed the stage into a type of best drag/ladyboy competition and then with some cool bands and dancing ensued. Screen_Recording_20240609_172604_X.mp4 After dinner, we entered the Jomtien Supertown Complex at the Thappraya entrance (where the Poseidon is) and there was a stage at the entrance and it was heaving with people dancing. Then we strolled through the complex towards The Venue and then at the turn left - there was another stage setup with music and people dancing. We got past that to our final destination at the junction with Soda Massage where there was another stage of people dancing and having a ton of fun. So, we plopped ourselves here to watch the fun and participate somewhat. In summary, I was VERY impressed - as this was my FIRST Gay Pride event in Thailand since retiring here 18 months prior. Everything was well organized, very entertaining, and too many things to do (which is good) - as you could not be everywhere in one moment - especially with the 4 entertainment stages that were setup - 3 inside the Supertown complex and 1 over at the Dongtan beach. I believe that the Thai government has petitioned to host the 2030 World Pride - and I participated as a volunteer in the year 2000 World Pride event when I lived in Rome, Italy, and it is estimated that we had close to 1 million visitors for that event. So, if Thailand can do the same for 2030 that will be amazing. If I am still here in 2029/2030 I will definitely volunteer my time towards this event - especially in the area of putting things in English - as this Pattaya Community Pride 2024 event was starved of available information in English. I will try to report on the NEXT 2nd Pattaya PRIDE festivities that are scheduled for 22 June 2024 under the label = "Pride for All". If any of you have a clue about why: there is this fracture within the Pattaya gay community = 2 separate gay pride parades and festivals, Boyztown is absent in the celebration of these events. Please let us all know. A similar fracture occurred in Rome, Italy during the years 1999/2000 leading up to the year 2000 World Pride event, when the gay community split into 2 distinct factions: Circolo Mario Miele and the associated Muccassasina, Arcigay. https://www.wikipink.org/index.php/World_Pride_Roma_2000 Many say that the Vatican had their fingers in this gay splinter because they were angry with the gay community to organize the FIRST World Pride ever during the same year as the Catholic Jubilee. Boyz, Boyz, Boyz and Toy Boys are as different as day and night! In BBB the dancers just stand on the stage, in their jeans, from about 9pm until show time while at Toy Boys the dancers are wearing the briefest of briefs and move about on the stage and flirt with the customers. Drinks are 350 in BBB and 250 in Toy Boy. BBB relies on their Chinese customers while Toy Boy attracts both Farang and Chinese. What is weird is there may be 2 to 6+ Chinese customers walk into ToyBoy, look around, and then walk out for no reason at all. The ones who walk in BBB do so about 10 pm and stay for the show.2 points -

From Thai PBS World COVID-19 infected patients being admitted to hospitals in Thailand increased to 2,762 between June 2 and 8, which is an average of 395 cases a day. The previous week saw 1,863 cases, according to the COVID-19 Information Centre. Five fatalities were also reported during that week, bringing the death toll this year to 137. Dr Thira Woratanarat, of the Faculty of Medicine at Chulalongkorn University, advised via Facebook post today that the public should keep their guard up and take care of their health, as COVID related hospital admissions have increased by 48.3% over the previous week. Meanwhile, the Centre for Medical Genomics at Mahidol University reported on its website that a new vaccine, KP.2, which is capable of boosting the immune system against new COVID variants, is expected to be approved for use during the 2024-25 season. The centre said that the new vaccine constitutes an important advance in the fight against COVID mutations and will slow the global rate of infections.1 point

The comments above ring true. In the old days, if you found a cheap fare that originated in somewhere you went to regularly, then you bought the fare, say, from BKK to London return, and then just kept going, secure in the knowledge that you could always use the return half. Tickets bought in Thailand were cheap, don't know if they are now, and if you went there 4 times a year, or more -vinapu- , then this was a way of saving money!1 point -

Most of us knew Sol Club wasn't going to survive. It had no imagination. Also, in its brief existence, did it even invest one baht in advertising and marketing? Even that huge column could have been turned into an asset if they knew how. I described a different floorplan and business model last November. https://shamelessmacktwo.travel.blog/2023/12/13/how-to-take-in-that-massive-thing/1 point -
that's sad but somehow it seemed not to catch up for some reason. In January I visited three bars in the soi on one evening and Sol was only one not full. They seemed not to understand that extremely loud music is not music but nuisance. Still it was good to have one more venue to go to.1 point

Someone is on a role.... btw, el ultimo vagon or cajita feliz, happy meal.....is a thing, everyone knows about it. Usually after 10pm is when people cruise, is like old time street cruising.....not everyone is fucking, some just meeting for hookups later, mostly you'll see an exhibitionist jerking off under his shorts or whipping it out ....in between stops or someone giving head, sometimes they'll be fucking. If busy bodies complain and it makes the headlines, they'll crack down for a bit, then back to normal, Like in Thailand with the go-go bars. Not everyone is on Grindr or has a smart phone or money for datos. The newer trains also complicate things, because the cars aren't secluded, people can walk all the way thru from one end to the other. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C8sOMsE-Co8 https://www.dailymotion.com/video/x5r2sjb1 point -

This is one of the BIG mysteries here in Pattaya. Back in the heyday - the 2 BIG entertainment centers were Sunee Plaza and Boyztown. Sunee fell from grace with the never ending police raids and now exists with just 3 or 4 bars Boyztown was perhaps the PRIME area for the gay life in Pattaya - back in the day. Now Boyztown (well at least the 2 main anchors = BoyzBoyzBoyz and Boyz Music) are primarily catering to the Chinese bus tour crowd and us non-Chinese bus tour people are overlooked. So, it would appear that there is a historical shift taking place from: Sunee Plaza --> to Boyztown --> now to Jomtien Supertown Complex This was evident at yesterday's 8 June 2024 Pattaya Community Pride event - there was ZERO / nada presence of anything from Boyztown. Instead this event was participated and sponsored by SWING, Supertown, and the Pattaya Mayor's office. To me this is sad that Boyztown chooses to not participate in yesterday's Pride event. There will be a second Pattaya Pride event on 22 June 2024 - so, we will see if Boyztown will step up to the plate for that event - but it is sponsored by Pattana - the owner of the Central Festival shopping mall.1 point -
The difference between 400 and 500 baht is $2.72 USD. If you're making decisions as to which bars you're visiting based on drink or off prices, you should be slapped. 😀1 point

I visited Dreamboys bar twice last week, I can say that I found the place quite big and spacious. Waiters and captains are friendly. Ventilation systems and stage music systems work well. I liked their shows. The number of guys on stage was quite high, more than 25 guys came on stage even though it was a weekday. Most of the customers come in groups and it gets crowded after 10 o'clock. On the first day, I took my 2 friends from the other bar and went there. I liked a boy (Cambodian) at first sight. My two friends with me knew him because they were Cambodian and they encouraged me to invite him for drinks , it was totally enjoyable night for us . l agreed to meet him the next evening, and the next day I visited the bar alone. When l arrived at 9 o'clock, l told mamasan his number and booked him in advance. When he (really handsome and cute) came to the bar and sat next to me with a smile, I congratulated myself for making the right choice😍 After Moonlight Bar and Banana Bar, I added Dreamboys Bar to my visit list for my next holidays.1 point

Toyboys itself is also currently full of Chinese customers, male and female; something they have deliberately encouraged over the last few years. Its signage is part Chinese/part English, and, importantly, they have at least one Chinese speaking junior mamasans to welcome them inside and keep an eye on them inside in terms of drinks and choosing boy companions off the stage, etc. The consequence is that they are usually busy and bustling most nights, whereas elsewhere in BoyzTown the boys are reporting a dearth of customers. My boyfriend is based at Pikky Bar and frequently video calls me from his 'welcome' table out in the soi and showing me scenes of an empty soi. BoyzBoyzBoyz opposite him is busy he reports, 'but all Chinese', he says. His bar and others around him seem all but empty. My spy in Classic Boy Bar says they are also hurting inside through lack of customers. Toyboys seems to have achieved critical mass at the moment. A steady flow of customers encourages a stage-full of near naked boys who get drinks and offs, which in turn encourages the customers to come in, etc. etc. My little spies in the bar say that there is also a steady flow of 'new' boys to bolster and refresh the numbers on stage each night. And, ironically, drink prices at Toyboys and BoyzBoyzBoyz are eye-wateringly high compared to their neighbours.1 point

500 Baht to get in. Seems like it was 400 before. Guys were much older and on there phones for the most part even when on stage. Not treally the energy that it was before. I'll be back in BKK in a couple of weeks and try again and send a report1 point

Hey guys. Just thought share a brief report on my recent trip. Bars I went to 2 bars during my weekend trip; Frolic & ChinChin. It was pretty packed on Friday night in both bars, celebrating the start of Pride month. On Friday night, I was at Frolic first, before going to ChinChin later that night. Frolic had 2 gogo boys dancing as opening for the drag show. The crowd was kind of a mixed bag in terms of age and local vs foreigner. People tend to stick to their own click at first, until the alcohol and whatever they were taking in from the balloons kicked in. Frolic also has an entrance fee for Saturday night (around 100k VND, I think), which does not include drinks. I only went to ChinChin on Friday night, and it was pretty late by then but the crowd was still pretty big. The vibe I get from ChinChin is that it's more for the "bougie" crowd. The bar's set up gives off a more upscale feel, and the guests actually dressed up decently. Again, people tend to stick with their own crowd, and there are more locals here with maybe the odd few foreigners. But the guys were, IMHO, hotter than the those in the Frolic crowd 😅. Sauna I only went to one sauna, Nadam. It was a Saturday evening (around 5pm) and there was pretty big crowd, with varying ages. Though, I seem to be the only non-oriental looking guest from what I can see. A lot of guys with great bodies there. The crowd tend to be more reserved, with a few guys giving a grope if they're interested, to see if you are too. There is a pretty well equipped gym, and the layout of the sauna provides for different areas (multiple lounging areas, saunas (including steam room, hot & cold jacuzzi) are on the ground floor, with the mazes on the first and secord floor. The entry fee was less than 100k VND if I'm not mistaken. Saunas are not really my thing but if you enjoy it and are into oriental asians, this would be a good place for you. Online MBs I received several offers on the apps (Grindr and HeeSay), ranging from 500k VND to 2 mil VND depending on what you want. There are surprisingly more gym fit MBs than the twinkier guys. My experience hiring one of the guys was, unfortunately, not that great. The guy looked masculine with a gym fit body in the pics, but in person he was more effeminate. When I showered, he went ahead and helped himself to the snacks and drinks I had in my room...without asking me. I didn't realise it until after he left. The service itself was rather mediocre, so all in all, it wasn't really a good experience. But I am eagre to come back and explore a bit more of the HCM scene. I met several amazing local guys over coffee and some of the expats I met at the bars. Looking forward to my next trip.1 point
