You could be on to something - Thai ways can be a total mystery to us outsiders. That said, to a western mind that relies on this strange thing called logic, I can't imagine what boundaries are left to be imposed by the cops. After all, the gogo bars already have full on f**king acts on stage, plus the conjoined couple then circulate among the audience, often with one partner on a customer's lap while the other partner pounds away. As @bkkmfj2648 mentioned a few days ago in this same thread, a good bar "creates customer participation in the bar and can allow for you to get up close and personal with the bar staff". I have long spoken about the need for smaller, more intimate environments, options for lap dancing in private booths (or at least curtained-off corners) and more joke-y performances that either pull members of the audience onto the stage or the performer(s) go down to a lucky customer. I have also spoken about the need for more exclusive male environments (as opposed to one with screaming girls in the audience) though such a suggestion makes @reader go apoplectic about discrimination. Instead, these bars think they ought to copy the success of Tiffany or Alcazar (and badly) or Fake Club. They don't for a moment realise that their could-be-loyal audience is completely different. Then when customer numbers fall, they raise their prices to make up. And wonder why customer numbers fall further. OK, the last bit about prices can be traced to the need for the police superintendent's wife to acquire jewellery.

Fun filled Friday night at Good Boy (formerly Screw Boys). 5 Taiwanese gay customers were seated at the back and enjoying every minute of the show. They were clapping, waving and singing enthusiastically. The other customers (including yours truly here) and the drag queen perfomrers were bemused but enjoyed the party atmosphere that the 5 young men brought to the bar. I visited Dreamboys bar twice last week, I can say that I found the place quite big and spacious. Waiters and captains are friendly. Ventilation systems and stage music systems work well. I liked their shows. The number of guys on stage was quite high, more than 25 guys came on stage even though it was a weekday. Most of the customers come in groups and it gets crowded after 10 o'clock. On the first day, I took my 2 friends from the other bar and went there. I liked a boy (Cambodian) at first sight. My two friends with me knew him because they were Cambodian and they encouraged me to invite him for drinks , it was totally enjoyable night for us . l agreed to meet him the next evening, and the next day I visited the bar alone. When l arrived at 9 o'clock, l told mamasan his number and booked him in advance. When he (really handsome and cute) came to the bar and sat next to me with a smile, I congratulated myself for making the right choice😍 After Moonlight Bar and Banana Bar, I added Dreamboys Bar to my visit list for my next holidays.

Not to dispute your findings but there's still possibility they may have their admirers not to mention use for bar as performers in the show. When visiting bars , and I make a point of visiting most of them, if not all , on every trip , I was witnessing offs of boys I would never venture to for that reason or another. On streets I often see farangs walking with girls or rather ladies who could work part time as witches , well past their prime and I doubt they are being engaged because their dusting or cooking skills.

When I visited Bangkok last year April 2023, Tawan still had fucking shows almost every other night where they go around the audience with their tip box while going at it. I'm not sure about other go go bars though. My trip this year May 2024, I didn't see any fucking shows at all in any of the bars I've visited (Hotmale, Goodboys, and Dreamboys) so sad 😢.

Just one observation. I would be very careful about walking down those steps from Dreamboys particularly after a few beers. Treacherous.

Toyboys itself is also currently full of Chinese customers, male and female; something they have deliberately encouraged over the last few years. Its signage is part Chinese/part English, and, importantly, they have at least one Chinese speaking junior mamasans to welcome them inside and keep an eye on them inside in terms of drinks and choosing boy companions off the stage, etc. The consequence is that they are usually busy and bustling most nights, whereas elsewhere in BoyzTown the boys are reporting a dearth of customers. My boyfriend is based at Pikky Bar and frequently video calls me from his 'welcome' table out in the soi and showing me scenes of an empty soi. BoyzBoyzBoyz opposite him is busy he reports, 'but all Chinese', he says. His bar and others around him seem all but empty. My spy in Classic Boy Bar says they are also hurting inside through lack of customers. Toyboys seems to have achieved critical mass at the moment. A steady flow of customers encourages a stage-full of near naked boys who get drinks and offs, which in turn encourages the customers to come in, etc. etc. My little spies in the bar say that there is also a steady flow of 'new' boys to bolster and refresh the numbers on stage each night. And, ironically, drink prices at Toyboys and BoyzBoyzBoyz are eye-wateringly high compared to their neighbours.

If you really want to exist in purely male environment, hordes of exclusively male massage shops and saunas to indulge you.

Visited Phet Boy shop this afternoon. General observations: Less than a five minute walk from BTS (see above). Found it to be very clean with rooms on second floor (mattress pad on floor). @Matthew285 hits the nail on the head. Gay visitors to Thailand are spread out over a spectrum. At one end would be those who have been regular visitors for years, even decades. So naturally, their point of reference would be the prices that used to be. Moreover, by now they are likely to be older and retired and on fixed incomes, so they will notice how prices have moved. At the other end of the spectrum are newer and generally younger visitors to Thailand (Thank heavens for them, otherwise the scene would be well and truly dead). Their point of reference would be prices in their home countries. My guess is that the ratio between prices in Thailand and prices the West have not budged very much, though in dollar terms, both prices have moved up. So, the new generation of visitors to Thailand are as delighted with the happy discounts they see today in a similar way as the previous generation saw (and were delighted) back then.

Brazil is a magical place where mature dogs are able to have their day frequently.
