I'm with vinapu, hand luggage only. I tend not to change hotels, but I often change rooms in the same hotel! Next visit to Bangkok, I stay in Meredien on arrival, but when i return, having been to Cambodia, I am staying at the Banyan tree for a change, staying quite close to Silom!2 points -

Darn, my visit this year was a bit lackluster without seeing the Tawan nightly shows with big beefy guys grinding on the stage💪🏻💪🏻🤤🤤. Hope everything goes smoothly with their much awaited opening.2 points

What I’ve done every year is buy a round trip ticket that returns before my retirement visa expires. It expires in February, so when I arrive in Thailand I always change my return date to April. I was only three weeks before my return ticket needed to be changed on my last trip so Etihad denied me a change. Had to buy a new ticket for 28,000 baht! But now I know to use a make believe return ticket from now on. I’m pretending to go to Philippines from Thailand in November so I can fool the airlines.1 point

Unaffiliated security guards in altercation on Pattaya Soi 6
KeepItReal reacted to reader for a topic
From Pattaya News In a viral incident that has made international headlines and drove significant speculation and discussion online, a group of independent contracted guards brutally assaulted British tourists after a furious dispute over a bill on the bustling Soi 6 Pattaya over the past weekend. The attack raised serious concerns about safety and tarnished the family friendly image of the popular tourist destination, according to Pattaya Police. The altercation, which began as a dispute over a bill in a bar in which the victims appear to become aggressive and confrontational with bar staff and security, even with one foreign man shoving another customer out of the bar at one point who appeared to be trying to calm the situation down, escalated into physical violence, leaving the victims battered and bruised. The incident was captured on video, sparking outrage and condemnation. In particular, footage of one guard violently kicking a tourist in the head while already lying on the ground having been beaten, caused outrage and made headlines across the globe. The guard claimed the victim attacked him first, breaking his nose on the street, which started the fight. Some speculated that the man was seriously injured, in a coma, or deceased, but none of that was correct as the victim told Pattaya Police today he had managed to walk away mostly uninjured from the incident and return to his hotel. In fact, the man involved said he even went back out drinking the same night on Walking Street. Pol. Col. Navin Teerawit, Chief of the Pattaya City Police Station, has personally spearheaded the investigation. The police quickly detained the perpetrators who subsequently apologized for their actions but Pattaya police had needed testimony from the victims to move forward with legal action and have spent the past several days looking for them and encouraging them online through PR statements to come and meet with police to make formal legal complaints.1 point -

New Thailand visa changes coming very soon
floridarob reacted to fedssocr for a topic
The typical tourist doesn't need a 60 day visa. But giving visa exempt entry to many more countries might move the needle a little bit. The "digital nomads" seem to have been finding loopholes already so I don't know how many will jump through the application process hoops to get a 6 month visa. Apparently that is only extendable by a further 6 months in a 5 year period, not that you can add 6 months for up to 5 years total.1 point -

Got the same experience, when I return home to Philippines earlier this month before heading to Bangkok I chose to stay in a 4 star hotel instead of going to my house and but it was meh, I didn't find value for my buck. I also read some of Vinapu's trip reports where he do change hotel rooms and my first thought before was it will be such a hassle packing and unpacking your luggage each time. But when I tried it myself during my visit in Bangkok and including my return to Manila I chose to split my remaining weeks with a few Airbnb and hotels throughout, it was so refreshing to have a different view every now and then. Thanks @vinapu for the idea.1 point

It's now damn expensive!!
splinter1949 reacted to gayinpattaya for a topic
You get what you pay for I guess. Living in Pattaya I have seen rent prices increase, and I put that on the influx of Russians pushing up demand. Having said that, it's only about 20% higher then pre-covid, but 50% higher than post covid. 7-11 has seen massive increases, which doesn't effect me as much as it does the Thai people. Then again, Thai's are smart and use the markets, which have seen smaller price increases. I have to say though, the price of Durian is sickening. It shocks me to see Thai people flocking to these pop-up Durian shops and spending a fortune on the stuff. Luckily I can't stand it. The same can't be said about the boyfriend.... As for boys and bars, yeah it's getting very expensive for visitors. 100-120b in Jomtien Complex for a bottle of Chang is just wrong. I refuse to pay it. Walk 50 meters to the main road and the girly bars sell for 55-60 baht. It's just ripping off the gay tourists. Most expats I spend time with, who are generally not retired but work here, buy bottles of whiskey/vodka/gin and that keeps their prices down. You can also give boys drinks from your bottle, which doesn't class as a boy drink. But still tip them if you're getting them drunk! As for boys, well, pay what you want. As said in another thread recently, there are some pretentious little queens running round demanding 4k ST. I'm sure some are paying it, good for them. There are other boys just as cute who will run to your condo for 1000 baht. Especially now in low season. It's very quiet around here. I personally am spending a lot less time in bars as life is getting busy for me. Often when I do go out, I find myself in places that are not "boy bars" and have just as much fun. It's surprising how available boys are in Pattaya when you learn enough Thai to engage with them. That cute waiter in the restaurant you like, good chance he will come to your room after work! Anyway, pay what you want or don't. It's your journey. Be like the Russians and sit on the steps of 7-11 with a bottle of Chang.1 point -

I'm from Belgium too. The prices of plane tickets to Thailand have doubled compared with 2019. I don't notice much difference in hotel prices. Prices for special services in Thailand are still very reasonable, and inflation of prices in Thailand is lower then inflation of prices in Europe.1 point
-
Definitely! But the Thai baht is weak at the moment (against the USD & Euro at least) so that offsets the higher prices somewhat.1 point

Hope this means Thai boys will be more reasonable with tip expected.1 point

I hear Gop of Nice Boys has succumbed to an infection (TB?) in a hospital in Suphanburi Friday. The cremation is to be Wednesday. He was the boyfriend of Kong, a waiter there. He cared and lived with him until his passing from TB in 2019 (during CoVid). From the pictures of GOP, it just looked like bad acne and I didn't think it was serious. (And now his friend dumps gambling advertisments above the Facebook announcement- how rude!) https://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=1000674942710390 points
