From the Straits Times SINGAPORE - One passenger died and 30 were injured when an SIA flight flying to Singapore from London’s Heathrow Airport encountered severe turbulence in the air. In a Facebook post on May 21, Singapore Airlines (SIA) said the aircraft was diverted to Bangkok and made an emergency landing at Suvarnabhumi Airport at 3.45pm. SIA, in an update later in the night, said 18 passengers were hospitalised, while another 12 are being treated for injuries in hospital. The remaining passengers and crew on board the Boeing 777-300ER aircraft are being examined and treated at the airport in Bangkok. Reuters reported that the aircraft, after about 11 hours of taking off from London, dropped sharply from an altitude of about 37,000 feet to 31,000 feet within just five minutes as it finished traversing the Andaman Sea and neared Thailand, according to FlightRadar 24 data.

Now it is old and stale. The country does want change, but also is not quite ready for it. If we were, we could have dumped Biden and Trump, of course. We didn't. It does have this feeling of clinging to the past. Because at least we know what that is politically. One side even has an appropriately backward looking motto: Make America Great Again. Poor old things. Demographically, at some point Millennials and Gen Z will simply take over, like the Boomers did in the 1990's. I can't wait. Some of the outlines are already clear. It will be more progressive. And it may be a wild ride, at least politically. In the case of the USSR, it was also the beginning of the end. Or, arguably, the end of the end. I realized I never gave the ending of this story. It actually hasn’t ended, but at least I can give an update. So it worked out fine with him buying the rx’s (a few glitches with bank that took a lot of time.) maybe a day before he was due to fly from Paris to São Paulo he announced he had just landed in Martinique, that he had taken the offer of a friend to work at a friend’s restaurant there in exchange for room and board, mostly because he wasn’t ready to return to his small town after such a short time (with his tail between his legs, no less). Kind of made sense. After about a month, he wanted to come back to Brazil, I got his ticket and he came back, with the rx so it basically worked out. This all happened months ago. Since I’m on a long flight back home (not from Brasil…) I’ll continue on. So, once back in São Paulo you can either fly or take a 6 hour bus ride to a small city, from which he lives an hour away. He asked me about buying him a flight, and it was only 150 reais, 3 days away. I thought he would be eager to get home to his mother, who he is very close to, but he was fine with it. So, I find him physically stunning, among the very best I have met there, but I don’t super enjoy spending time with him, maybe not even 3 days if it was free, and certainly not if I had to pay.
