Songkran question
Ruthrieston and 3 others reacted to bkkmfj2648 for a topic
I am also escaping the water bazooka squirting madness of Pattaya - I leave for Vietnam on 12 April and return after the last squirts and water splashing should have been concluded on 22 April. Some years back, I participated in the Songkran madness but one of my eyes got an infection from some of the dirty water that is splashed around and it took 1 entire week for the infection to go away - so I want to avoid this year's festivities. Many of my friends are saying that I should wear googles but I also wear glasses and it is just so inconvenient to do that for 7 continuous days of water madness..... Already here the stores are selling these GIANT bazooka water pistols - OMG4 points -
Last year I visited the states 4 times which I think was a bit much, each for around 2 weeks. I moved here because they have a very good permanent resident vehicle which is the VITEM XIV retirement visa. It's quite easy to get, there is a visa handler in Houston that has fast service at the consulate there, and things just sort of worked out. There is a large alumni community here from the school I attended in New York City which is extremely active-many events in English. But yes, I moved here for the boys. I stayed here wanting a change of pace, living in a foreign country for the first time, and the legality of sex work as well as the relatively very inexpensive cost of living, Sao Paulo I believe is the most expensive city in Brazil to live in. I stayed for the other reasons outlined. As far as the visa goes, anyone can PM me for a recommendation of a great handler and I would very much suggest getting him. He knows what will fly and what will not. I am in my 3rd year, which means my permanent residence card is most likely indefinitely renewed. They want in the first 2 years to send US$2,000/month to a Brazilian bank and that's it. Not a W. Europe Golden visa 1MM euros R/E needed (then again brazil does not compare in any way to Western European countries. In 4 years from entrance, one can get dual citizenship with the USA, and that opens up pretty easy portugual access which is of course EU, sort of a side door if in the future you want an EU passport. Not everyone has liquid or even at all 1MM euros at close hand. On the other hand, an expense I have been very pleased with is finding an attorney to help me negotiate leases and handle RNM (permanent resident card) renewals, etc. That only happened in October of last year putting him on retainer. it takes a while for people to open up an give you the not 100 (or 100%) gringo surcharge, but it happens. Anyone who wants to know more can PM me here. I love this site! Scott4 points

I also hide in my condo in Pattaya from 12th to 16th, then I flee to Bangkok as the nonsense finishes there on 15th, and then return to Pattaya on 20th as 19th is the most stupid day in Pattaya. I see though that the "government" intends to lengthen Songkran this year but I have not seen any details of those plans as yet. I remember on my first trip to Thailand in 1998 that Songkran even in Pattaya was more civilised in those days, with all the water throwing stopping as the sun went down about 6pm so you could dress decently and go out for dinner with no threat of stupid drunk farang dumping buckets of iced water over your head.4 points -
Yes it was me. One of the boys working there I’ve know for over 10 yrs txt’d me saying the bar had been shut last Monday by the police. We both felt it was probably some issue over paying bribe or new police chief…4 points

Brazil vs Colombia for Gay Travel 2024
Chucky and 2 others reacted to floridarob for a topic
Now I'm in the middle of trying to make a decision to go to Bogota or Santo Domingo.....was in Bogota last year haven't been to SDQ in AGES. My good friend said if I go to Colombia, he'd try to go or I go alone to Santo Domingo....decisions, decisions. I get industry rates at Hilton branded hotels....in SDQ they're about 15 mins outside of the colonial zone in BOG- located all over.... This is for the end of April.. Edit: I couldn't decide, so I'm going to both places and threw in a night in Panama for good luck!3 points -

I agree with suspicion quoted above as a reason for closure. Encouraging news is that apparently guys still congregate in vicinity so can be engaged if news is accurate.3 points -
Saigon, Vietnam experience
eurasian and one other reacted to AsianExplorer for a topic
Hi gay fellow travellers I really enjoyed reading all the stories and travel report from this community. Now I want to share my experience in Saigon 5 years ago. I rented an airbnb with street door access 2 floors. I used 2nd floor for my own rest and the first floor dedicated for escort use luckily there was a bed and bathroom on each floor. There was a website called https://www.ngaytho.me/diendan/ You check what they offer and talk to the mamasan via a local chat app called Zalo, tell the mamasan who you want and where do you want to meet. Mamasan is good at communicating in English even if you have trouble you can still use google translate for scheduling. I picked one guy and he came to my airbnb. The service was ok and i remembered it was around 1 million VND. The website has been changed so much snd the going price ranging from 1.2 million to 2 million now. I have not contacted any of the mamasan since then, but i am sure you will get a similar experience. Also please be aware of the boys may use photo editing to their pictures. So the one who appears on the website may be slightly different than what you see in person. I paid the guy in cash. For gay suana, i went to several but i cannot recall all of them. Of all, Nadam spa was the best and i am still thinking going back. Design was very traditional chinese, erotic but not too overwhelming. The maze also very flirting. My trip then went all the way up to hanoi. You can tell the more north you go, the more socialism it feels. I did not recall good experience there. This was my past experience and hope it helps for you. AsianExplorer2 points -

Went last night. They were having a birthday party for a waiter. Little crowded with about 7-8 customers. At least I can see how my friends party was like - I couldn’t attend that one as I was flying back. Made sure to tip the older kathoey waitress. I don’t think she gets many tips. Photos are from June 2020.2 points

Songkran question

Is this not, in the main, an urban "thing"? In rural areas, Songkran is more traditionally-celebrated. Farmer know the value of water in Isaan and so on and don't waste it.2 points -
I didn't address directly how I like Sao Paulo. Portuguese is a difficult language to learn, which is challenging. That said, I like it a lot. When I get irritated with stupid bureaucracy here, I go out and walk a few blocks and see these amazing-looking guys in my neighborhood and I say, well, not all bad! As far as finding a bi-sexual (they like to call themselves "brothergem" (I am straight but I'll top you for money-I don't know how many of them are really that 100% straight...LOL) guy to show you around (yes I met him at Boa Vista sauna) with some guys that don't go to the sauna since Recife is such a small town compared to a lot of other large Brazilian cities like I said you can try to walk on the beach, I am on a beach person so I just kind of got lucky. If you need more tips I can talk to you on WhatsApp if you PM me to see if my buddy would be a good match for your tastes. ENJOY!2 points

The question is what kind of friend. I think many westerners think friendship is by definition two equals. My experience is that in many other parts of the world this isn't true. These relationships come with expectations that the richer/older/wiser is the patron/mentor. Note the richer part. That doesn't mean the relationship is purely mercenary (though it could be), but it does often mean that the richer one is supposed to 'help' the younger one. So, I think it isn't always either/or. Sometimes its both. Proceed with whatever caution you deem warranted and assess it in the light that both want something from the relationship and it may not be the same thing even if both are fond of each other.2 points

From The Nation Around 300 people rallied at the Yamu Beach in Thalang district of Phuket province on Sunday morning against the Swiss owner of an elephant park on the island province after he allegedly kicked a female doctor last month. The protesters rallied at the beach at 9.30am, bringing their own food and drinks to join the "picnic" after the organisers invited them via Phuket communities’ Facebook pages a few days earlier. At first, their number was around 100 but it soon trebled in size. The rally was held under the slogan labelled by the organisers in English as “Get out, David”. The angry local people organised the rally against Swiss national Urs “David” Fehr, 45, who allegedly kicked Thandao Chandam, a doctor at Dibuk Hospital in Phuket, in the back while she and her friend were sitting on the beachside steps of a villa being rented by Fehr. continues at https://www.nationthailand.com/thailand/general/400360651 point

Well, the point is, I think, that he very much does not see this woman as a threat at all. She's not a threat--she's a bargaining chip from which he hopes to exchange for real Russian criminals (arms dealers, etc.). The sensible thing to do is disengage. Do not bargain. Make it clear that there's nothing to gain from taking hostages. And, once again, warn US citizens NOT to travel to Russia (or Iran, etc.). As I've said before, anyone wishing to travel to countries whose leaders take our citizen hostage should have to sign a waiver indicating that they are well-aware of the serious danger, and that the US will not make any concessions due to willfully foolish behavior. This should be the response to any request for concessions:1 point

There was an article in media a few weeks back that Putin’s intention is to collect as many hostages as possible. This is just one more step in that effort. I believe any US citizen—or those from NATO nations—would by wise to avoid travel to Russia under Putin’s regime.1 point

You are on something. We don't even need to look far, I know quite a few our members, regulars to Thailand , often more than once a year , who never went to Pattaya. There's even one I suspect will be correcting that deficiency as early as in a week or two. Even well know fact that Pattaya offerings are generally cheaper and has an access to the sea is not good enough to steer them there.1 point

Hi Guys!
Ruthrieston reacted to a-447 for a topic
It all depends on the guy, of course. My regular guy in Pattaya who I've spent the majority of my holidays with is actually quite shy in person. He is softly spoken and very polite. But when working in Eros he let it all hang out and was anything but shy. Same, same in bed. He started off at Happy Boys and was very uncomfortable baring his arse for all to see. He wanted to go back home but his friend there told him to hang in there, and he soon got used to it and just treated it as a job. His attitude to sex in general reflects a common Thai attitude - it's no big deal. No need to be hung up about it. And if you're far from home, just go for it, especially if you're a handsome guy with a big cock. This attitude ran in the family - his younger brother worked with him in Eros and his sister worked in Walking Street. I think she found a farang to "take care of" her. And as shy as he is, he made at least 1 gay porn movie when he was 18.1 point -

Brazil's Northeast: Fortaleza, Recife, Sao Luis
khaolakguy reacted to Scott for a topic
I'm new on here and am reading the posts and finding the history of Brazil quite accurate to what I have been informed. - I thought I would post some thoughts that I had on a trip to Recife. Essentially, for 25 years I went to only Rio, and then in mid-2015-2020 I went to Sao Paulo quite a bit. Finally, I moved here and while still finding Portuguese quite a tough language, I don't see much I don't agree with totally on most of these posts. As far as rent boy saunas, Boa Vista was the place I went to. I went to the other Blue sauna and was pretty disappointed. I met a "guide" if you will and enjoyed his company quite a bit. He picked me out as someone from Sao Paulo don't like to haggle over prices, but I will say it's a Middle Eastern bizarre, like buying a carpet in Turkey as strange as that comparison sounds it is closer to the truth than you would want to think! Brazilians seem to love to haggle about anything really, so depending on your tolerance for that you should try to get used to it. As always the fear of having no problem with walking away (you are the customer after all tends to finally get the price down to earth again) will do wonders. I do find a lot of them will sway "let's go" (about the only words they know in English.) I have an apple pre-prepared note saying, I live here buddy, I would never just "let's go" without getting a very clear idea of the price, do you think I am crazy? This has kept me from having conflicts and having to get management involved. Not to scare anyone, but the "Let's go" is great for the GP boy. In the end, they can theoretically say 1,000 reals and that would be a low price in the USA and they darn well know it. Never happened to me, but the prices are increasing I am finding. The huge under/unemployment makes cities like Sao Paulo full of quite desperate guys, and they will do anything to increase an already agreed-upon price by $50R. Getting back to Recife, even if they inflate 100 quite a bit, you will end up paying a lot less than in sao paulo, and it is unlikely you will be competing against a bunch of gringos who don't have a clue what the price is. I was only going to stay in Recife for a few days, to do some networking/business but extended it to 10, so you could say I found it a breath of fresh air. The "straight" guys treat me a lot better and are certainly much more down-to-earth than the guys in Sao Paulo at Lagoa. The boys in Recife are much more down to earth and yes, I do think they are considerably more polite and caring. The lack of a huge number of tourists I think accounts for this. I didn't see another American tourist for my entire trip there-what a breath of fresh air that was! I will also say, if you can find someone who knows a bunch of "straight" guys who never go to Boa Vista or any other gay sauna, you have struck gold. These guys are some of the most amazing guys I have met in 25 years of trips to Brazil. SUNDAY WAS THE BIG NIGHT IN BOA the 2 weekends I was there, it was pretty empty by comparison to the other nights it was open. There are many beautiful spots to explore, day trips to exotic beaches, the castle, and the ordinary beaches in the tourist area are quite beautiful and pretty unspoiled. I am going to try to explore some other smaller cities as well, and the posting on here make me feel I will have a solid map on where to head to. Many thanks to all who have posted the interesting and informative articles here.1 point -
Bali Feb 2024 short review
NIrishGuy reacted to floridarob for a topic
Flew here from Surabaya on Lion Air. Many people in Jakarta told me not to fly them, horrible record. Check-in was efficient, line moved fast, flight left on time, was only 40 minutes and arrived 5 mins late. Since it was Chinese New Year weekend coming up, Bali airport was super busy and my luggage was the last one out....yeah, I was getting nervous. So much better arriving Bali domestically than International. Was waiting for Grab car when an independent driver convinced me to go with him for the same price, Grab was moving really slow in traffic, but as usual, nothing is at it seems. The indie taxi was in a garage and it took us longer to get out of the garage than Grab would've taken..... Staying in Seminyak at the Primera hotel, an old IBIS, small rooms but super convenient to the bars and beach, $25 usd a night with minifridge and a balcony, cheaper rooms run 17 a night. Met a guy on Grindr while in Surabaya that was in Bali, since distance isn't shown in Indonesia, it's common to move into an area far away while scrolling. Hooked up with him 2 nights, wasn't a money boy and had a thick dick with a big head, he was horny as a mf. That's a common theme in Indonesia, even the mb's don't get clients as often as Brasil or Thailand, so they come loaded and ready to shoot. Had a couple of daytime massage in my room from a couple of regulars....went to Mixwell bar all 3 night here. A guy from Jakarta that I was with for 3 nights, bought his own plane ticket to come out here to be with me 3 nights, time with me paid as 1 "meeting", his reference, like a programa in Brasil or ST in BKK, even though he was staying with me. Seemed like a bargain and so far, so good after 1 night. Moving to Conrad Bali tomorrow for the last 2 nights....looking for a more relaxing stay just hanging out by the pool and room with him, no bars other distractions. We did go to Elegantz sauna today, from the online reviews, I was expecting more....was busy, but nothing worthwhile for me. I would've been better using that time for a nap, won't return there. Also went to the Hard Rock Cafe, I know the manager from years ago in Jakarta and he always treats me like a VIP whenever I stop in, The kid from Jakarta is impressed with the benefits from Hilton status and knowing the HRC guy and manager and cashier at Mixwell, boy will he be surprised at Conrad tomorrow, lol Probably won't have anything else noteworthy to add to this trip unless I get married or he robs me....then off to Manila after. I got a message from someone in a group (straights) that I've Cruised with before on Princess, that one of our female friends that was an awesome person passed away last night while on the ship from cardiac arrest....boy did she love cruising. Makes it even more important to realize, we don't know when our last day is.....enjoy it while you're physically able to 🙏1 point -

I have never had an issue with a yellow cab in Bogotá, but I have heard stories about other's experiences. Since this will be your first trip, I would suggest you rely on Uber -- they are reliable and cheap in the capitol and you have the added security of their tracking system. The taxis at the airport are also dependable and cheap, a trip to central Bogotá during the day should be around 40.000COP, even cheaper early in the day.1 point

I've had guys in Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Doha, Manama and Muscat. Most of them either Thai or Filipino, though I had an African guy probably from Madagascar in Doha. Got quite a few hits from locals too but they either don't want to show their face, are too hairy or don't have a good approach when communicating. No question asked when brining guys to your room, though I tend to stay in big international chain hotels. Might be different in smaller hotels. I would suggest you get a local SIM card or use roaming as sometimes the hotel's Wifi block some of the apps. Dubai has definitely the most guys on apps. There is even a Filipino guy living in Dubai that I follow on Twitter. He seems to be pretty busy. I remember in Doha that beside the African and a Thai guy I met this American, in his mid-50s, a physical therapist for the US Athletics team as there was a big Athletics competition in town. He just wanted to give me a massage and then jerk me off. It was actually a pretty good massage. Also in Doha, twice when I was walking out at night, a car stopped by and asked me if I wanted a ride. I kindly declined. Then I remembered that when in college, a Filipino friend told me the same thing had happened to him in Dubai, though this were at a time when apps were still not popular. Seems like that pickup method might still survive in that area, though I think way less than before because of apps.1 point
