    Scams in Apps

Caveat emptor. I've said this before , but here goes.... In this game, the buyer always takes a risk. I recall taking guys back to the hotel after enjoying all sorts of clandestine festivities and salacious hints in the bar, captivated by their good looks and apparent willingness. And then, even walking back along Surawong or wherever, noticing a distinct change in attitude. Less accommodating, you could say. This followed by doing the absolute basics in the room, collecting the money (once or twice even neglecting to shower) before rushing back to the bar for assignation number two. Or three. Even the most experienced of us cannot be sure. As for today's market, I am certainly aware of old photos being used on- line. Inaccurate descriptions, promised activities denied and much else. Sometimes, it has to be admitted, by falangs themselves.... or so I'm told. And my answer is always the same. It's part of the game; live with it and "move on" to the next guy. He may turn out to be a stunner....or even a life partner! Punters should also remember that the guys themselves take risks. Is this kindly falang in the photo or the bar a wannabee Hannibal Lector? will he demand activities I don't like? will he pay what I need? or what I was promised? will he even be clean? if you play the game, you must accept that occasionally- in my experience very rarely- you will sometimes lose or have to be satisfied with a draw.

  2. I'm in Medellin now. Lowest I paid (besides nothing) was 50 peso ($12.5) most was 200p (50USD) but often when they know you are foreign they ask for more. I politely say I'm sure you are worth every dollar, but that is too much for my budget. they will try again lower. had one guy go from 100 USD to 24$. I said no, I didn't want to cheat him... 100 cop is pretty normal, high mileroticus will want 200....

    Swampy

Just a short comment about my departure this morning from Swampy on way to the delights of Siem Reap. I was flying Bangkok Airlines, whom I think are impressive. Their website knocks spots off BA. Checked in on line, so went in search of fast lane, on account of being over 70. It's sort of where it was before, at the extreme right hand edge, but now concealed by a blue fence. Once you negotiate this, and, I'm glad to say, staff refused several pax, the security line was ok, 7-8 mins. Passports 5 mins, officers, no machines. All in all not bad. You then pass the area where the great unwashed are in line, looked horrendous!! Although in economy, it's an all economy flight, I thought I'd try the Bangkok Airways lounge. No-one there, at the entrance, so I made myself comfortable. Subsequently,I was checked on, they made polite noises, which I reciprocated, without moving, and Thai politeness meant I could stay! Flight arrived early. My neighbour on the Siem Reap flight had come from London to Bangkok via Emirates, cattle class, and she was not happy. Landed Bangkok 6pm, bags delivered 8pm! I like Bangkok Air too. The only problem I have with them is that they seem to have regular data breaches. Within a few years I was informed already twice about a data breach. The first one also included credit card data. The other one was just very recently. Or maybe they are the only airline who report about data breaches and the other airlines don't ?

I have been lucky with Grindr, perhaps. Only had one issue, in Bangkok, 2years ago. and sent boy away. Advantage of meeting in lobby, you can do that. Used Grindr for 2 boys last week, Bangkok, both accurate and good.. Now recovering in Siem Reap from a guy who pursued me in Grindr. He was great one of the best, so you never know! I did ask him if pics accurate, he said yes, great ass, well he would but it was true!

I've only ever created 2 profiles on apps but became suspicious very quickly and stopped using them, amazing just how quickly Nigerians (mostly them but other Africans as well and not those in Thailand either) started messaging and wanting to make contact. The alarm bells were ringing loudly, so loud that I just deleted the apps and just rely on face to face contact when I travel.

I use apps ( Grindr only) rarely even if I comb through it regularly to see what is on the market but would never reveal my location without securing what expected compensation will be . My problem with apps is that I read pictures poorly and whoever shows in the lobby usually looks less attractive than on the pics.

  17. From Thai PBS World A Myanmar rebel alliance group has gained control of a key town along the countryā€™s volatile northern border with China after weeks of fierce fighting with junta troops, it said in a statement late on Friday. The ā€œThree Brotherhood Allianceā€, as the group is known, said it took over Laukkai town after the militaryā€™s regional headquarters located there surrendered. The fall of Laukkai is the latest victory in a sweeping offensive by an alliance of rebel groups that began in October and has become the most significant threat to Myanmarā€™s military government since it seized power in a 2021 coup. ā€œAll Kokang (Laukkai) region has become a land with no Myanmar Military Council anymore,ā€ the statement said. A junta spokesman did not respond to calls from Reuters seeking comment. The alliance comprises three groups with extensive fighting experience ā€“ the Myanmar National Democratic Alliance Army (MNDAA), the Taā€™ang National Liberation Army (TNLA), and the Arakan Army (AA). They were accompanied by individuals from the loosely organised Peopleā€™s Defence Force, supported by Myanmarā€™s parallel National Unity Government (NUG), suggesting that the rebellion is taking on an increased level of coordination and planning. The capital of Myanmarā€™s restive Kokang region, Laukkai has a reputation as a gambling den and a hub for online scam operations. China, a key junta ally that also has close relations with some ethnic Chinese militias along the frontier, has grown increasingly frustrated in recent months by the Myanmarā€™s junta lack of action on closing down the scam centres. by Reuters

  22. Further to my Bangkok post, a few comments on Siem Reap. The Bangkok Airways flight at the new white elephant airport early. Looks Impressive, I counted around 12 airbridges all empty. There were two aircraft there, ours and another small plane, who can't use the air bridges. You walk up the steps, with hald luggage to reach arrivals. You then walk a mile or so, I exaggerate, to immigration. This is a huge hall with over 30 desks. Once you work out where to go, I had an evisa, it was fairly quick. I had no luggage, so walked through. Interestingly, when you exit customs, that's it, you are outside in the so. There are hotel reps, including mine, and a stall selling local SIM cards, but that's it! I got in my car, Viroth's hotel used to send their antique Mercedes, or Rolls, but they said the roads were so bad to the new airport, you now get an SUV. Perfectly ok, apart from the $45! Bra d new single carriageway road with posh lights every 40 metres, for about 20 miles. Then, crunch on the old highway, slow, bumpy etc. took an hour. Hotel nice as usual, spent the first hour fending off guys from Grindr, offering paid sex, 5 in all. I selected one who was persistent, and he looked like his pics, did everything he said, and was great! Fully versatile etc. ended up giving him $50, which in European terms is so cheap! That included a tip! Then dinner at the Khmer Grill, a drink in Pub Street, and home. Beer now $1.50, but fear not, second free! Lots of attractive guys including the waiters!

  26. From Pattaya Mail By Barry Kenyon The Thai tax authority has announced, in its fiscal report for last year, the scooping up of a total of 395 billion baht (circa US$11 billion) in personal income taxes. This was in addition to huge sums raised via value-added tax on sales and corporate or company taxes. Thai Revenue, as is well known, is taxing assessable overseas income, no matter when sent to Thailand, starting on January 1 2024. Foreigners and Thais who believe they have tax to declare should include their overseas taxable income during 2024 on their tax form for 2025. Significantly, the Revenue also reports that the number of people filing personal income tax forms during the last 12 months amounted to 11 million, mostly Thais, and only about a quarter of the adult working population. In other words, the vast majority of Thais and foreigners do not register with the Revenue via a tax identification number. Personal income taxes in Thailand are collected in arrears and require registration and the filling in of a tax form in the following fiscal year. Contrary to numerous inaccurate reports on the internet, international cash transfers to Thailand are not taxed on arrival. Very many Thai expats are concerned about the tax implications of sending money from abroad now that January 2024 has arrived. Any taxes due wonā€™t be payable until the tax year 2025 and will require registration to obtain a tax identification number. In other words, there is time for more detail to emerge before any taxes would be payable. Many tax accountants in Thailand believe that foreign transfers from pre-taxed savings, pensions and gifts will not be taxable again, although the Revenue has not specifically addressed that issue or the implications of double-taxation treaties with 61 countries. The main aim of the Revenue is to close tax loopholes which formerly allowed Thais and some wealthy foreigners to reap huge profits from overseas investments, currency speculations and cash buildups in offshore accounts often held for years. Separately, the Revenue has published new reporting rules for digital platform operators to allow it to collect information on sellersā€™ total income from their online activities, aiming to nudge more online product and service providers into the tax system. Many experts believe that the recent words of Lavaron Sangsnit are highly relevant to all recent tax announcements: ā€œThe world is getting smaller, more connected and traceable because of digitalization. In the past, it may have been impossible to detect tax evasion, but now it can easily be detected.ā€ Now that Thailand has joined the Common Reporting System (CRS) of around participating 120 countries, financial institutions round the world will inform member governments of individualsā€™ transactions to fight tax evasion and protect the integrity of tax systems. In other words, when you send money abroad it is no longer a private affair.

  30. While that statement is true, the issue here is not one of an intentional act, but one of gross negligence, due to not following standard, universal procedures. Another surgical example is the leaving in of instruments or equipment in the patient during a surgery. There are strict procedures to prevent this, and it's not simply a matter of looking carefully. Before closing a patient, the scrub RN must count out all pieces of equipment, including sponges, gauze, needles, and so on. The number must be the same as those the procedure started with. The RN must declare "The count is correct," before the surgeon can close. If it's not, the surgeon must look again, and if the item cannot be found, take an X-ray while the patient is still on the table to either find the lost object or ascertain that the lost object is not in the patient (even gauze pads have strips of metal in them which will show up on X-ray, for just this reason). If an instrument or needle, etc., is left in the patient, no extenuating circumstances can be claimed to avoid guilt. The circulating RN has recorded the procedure. Either the scrub RN miscounted (in which case there's liability on both sides, but especially the RN), or the surgeon ignored the miscount. Similarly, there are strict rules that a plane does not enter a runway without clearance from the air traffic controller. In these circumstances, the fact that an accident occurred demonstrates that either the air traffic controller or the pilot didn't follow the rules. The transcript of the conversation and the flight data recorder will determine who didn't follow procedure.

  31. Not surprised to see that. It's worn often by women at Trump rallies. President Trump is a rock star. Women have been throwing themselves at him for 50+ years. Notice the woman sitting next to her is wearing a "Women for Trump" shirt. These are the people that will catapult Trump back into the White House. Proud, patriotic American women. And there are tens of millions more of them. They, like most Americans, have ZERO interest in what happened on Jan 6th. The only insurrections they care about is the insurrection taking place daily at the southern border with the invasion of tens of thousands each day and the insurrections taking place in every large American city daily with with all of the violent crime.

  32. You don't understand what seems pretty obvious to most people. Yes, of course the investigation needs to be completed. And, yes, the pilot is entitled to due process before any criminal conviction. However, if the control tower recordings are accurate, this pilot's career is over (at best). I can guarantee that if a surgeon amputates the wrong limb, he will never be allowed to operate again. The error is so egregious that it's career-ending. If the reported communication transcripts are verified as accurate, I'd be astonished if this pilot's error wasn't career-ending as well. And res ipsa loquitor is a recognized legal term, which a judge can inform a jury about when it applies.

  33. Nice try, @EmmetK. But, sadly, you are no Donald Trump. Trump learned well from Roy Cohn. Take everything bad and criminal about you, and accuse other people of being that. So of course Trump is going to attack Biden for being a criminal, a liar, bankrupt, a rapist, whatever. Trump does it more persuasively than you, though. Here's a simple question: Hunter Biden is a total money whore, who took millions from Chinese Communists. Donald Trump is a total money whore, who took millions from Chinese Communists. What is the difference between these two men? Hunter Biden may be a money whore. But he was not President, or even the drug addict son of a President, when he did it. Trump was President when he did it. He whored up as much money as he could get from Chinese Communists. As did his daughter. The money whoring of President Trump and his family was staggering in dimension. The deep and unethical cover up by Republicans like Comer is staggering, too. If Comer wants to go after the drug addict son of Biden for being a money whore, great. But then he needs to go after Donald and his crime family for being way bigger money whores, too. Instead of leading a cover up of Trump's money whoring. Being a drug addict who peddles influence is not a violation of The Constitution. Being a money whore President like Trump who proudly sucks up millions from Chinese communists is. But, hey, Trump's been very clear that he is proud to violate The Constitution. His money whore son Eric says it's a "joke" to even bring up the fact that the Trumps took way more money from the very same Chinese communists bureaucrats they attack Hunter for money whoring around with. Pot, meet kettle. Money whore, meet drug addict. And that is not even mentioning billion dollar Jared, and that whole money whoring thing with Saudis with bone saws. Jared's even a bigger money whore than his criminal father was. And, unlike Hunter, he was working in The White House while he was being a billion dollar money whore. Money whores, money whores, money whores. The whole Trump money whore family never met a Chinese communist with money, or a Saudi dictator with a bone saw, that they didn't like. Money whores! Wrong. This may be the first Presidential election in my lifetime where it boils down to Joe Biden holding a sign says, "That's malarkey!" Politico is on it. This is their top story today: Why Jan. 6 is a problem for Trumpā€™s campaign Views of the attack have shifted among Republicans, but it remains toxic with the rest of the electorate. So Democrats, former Democrats, Independents, and former Republicans overwhelmingly agree. Trump did something either illegal, or unethical but not illegal. In one typical poll, almost half say "illegal". A little more than a quarter say "unethical, but not illegal". This poll, like many others, was taken several years after the "illegal" or "unethical" election lies and election stealing violence took place. So people are not changing their minds about what they saw on Jan. 6th that disgusted them about Trump. That does leave about one quarter of Americans, mostly the MAGA crowd, who are happy to overlook "illegal" and "unethical" behavior, lie about it, or blame it on Hunter or Joe Biden. Roy Cohn would love ya, @EmmetK. Toxic is still toxic, no matter how much you lie about it. But at least you get an A for effort.

  37. And Biden duly noted what I refer to as the Jubilant Patriotic Cop Beating as well. After all, what could be more patriotic than breaking the bones of police officers? Biden: "By Trying To Rewrite The History Of January 6, Trump Is Trying To Steal History The Way He Tried To Steal The Election" I thought his speech was great. Yes, he looks old. Yes, he stumbles over words even more than he has normally stumbled over words for decades. But he clearly showed fire and passion. I think calling out Trump as a fascist wannabe is a necessary but not sufficient part of his re-election strategy. The most effective thing Biden did was to just quote Trump. About how he wants to be a dictator, kind of. And how I'm vermin because I oppose him. Who knew? People call me verbose. But not vermin. šŸ˜Æ If 2024 is solely a referendum on Biden, I'd say he has at best a 50/50 chance. Too many people are too pissed off that higher prices won't go back down. Even if their net worth and the stock market and their home value is at an all time high. Biden needs to make it a referendum on Trump as well. Which he has now clearly demonstrated he can and will do. The thing Trump can't escape is that he did try to steal an election. His lies about 2020, and what he told his thugs to do, are despicable. Most people other than loyal Trump supporters know this to be true. Biden needs to keep reminding them. People will sort out whether they care more about democracy, or how much more a Big Mac costs than four years ago. One more paragraph on Biden and what he needs to do to win that goes beyond Jan. 6th. Kudos to Democratic pollster Doug Schoen, who just unintentionally did a great job of making a self-defeating argument about why Biden must step aside. Schoen's latest claim to fame was advising Mike Bloomberg on how to spend $1 billion getting nowhere in the 2020 Democratic primary. Oops. Schoen points out what we all know: Biden's poll numbers suck. So he must be replaced. But by who? How about Kamala Harris? Nope. Her numbers are worse. Okay. How about Hillary Clinton? Nope. She lost in 2016, remember? The only "okay, but who else?" Schoen can come up with is Gavin Newsom, who polls the same as Biden. Somehow Schoen thinks that Trump being a little ahead of Biden in January 2024 is awful. But Trump being a little ahead of Newsom in January 2024 is promising. Huh? So his argument is Democrats should somehow dump an incumbent President to replace him with someone else, somehow, who polls just as badly. Huh? Again, this may explain why Schoen's advice led Bloomberg to spend $1 billion to win nothing. I trust Biden's political judgment on how to win more. He managed to be Senator, Veep, and POTUS for over half a century so far. Give 'em hell, Joe!

There's nothing special about them other than the fact they're cruisy and friendly inside and out, especially at the pool, spa, sauna or jacuzzi. A stay at an Axel hotel probably works best for those visitors who are too shy or afraid to venture very often to other parts of the city -- or even other parts of the Eixample.
