I said it over five years ago and several times since: trip and venue reports are the meat and potatoes of this forum. But readers also repeatedly show their appetite for controversy. On July 27 I posted this is the "I went to dream boys last night and drinks price is horrendous" thread: "The most popular posts within the forum invariably relate to trip reports and venue reports. Readers have also displayed a taste for controversy, Take this thread, for example. Although it was started only a few months ago, it's attracted 5.3k views and received 132 replies. (And those numbers only count views by logged on members; not the many many non-members who view the site)." In the three weeks since then, that thread has gone on to log 7.2 thousand views and 167 replies. That is one of the great benefits of this forum: members--for whatever reason--pick up one theme and feel free to run with it. Sure, it soon gets off topic but opinions and information are exchanged in the process. I post a lot of stuff I understand has limited interest to those seeking only sex-related information. I look for items in Thai politics, crime and generalized Southeast Asia travel and current events. Those without interest simply pass it by. I believe that's how it's suppose to work. But there still plenty of posts here for those who want their meat and potatoes without appetizer or dessert. 🙂

Another factor affecting Chinese demand must surely be the dreadful state of the nation's economy. It has failed to recover from covid anywhere near as quickly as most thought and 2022 saw its worst economic performance in decades. The country is now in recession. The property market is suffering massive declines, far more than in previous years. Unemployment amongst the nation's youth in the 16-24 age range rose to a record 21.3% in June. 11.58 million university graduates are about to be thrown into a job market with few jobs to go to. President XI has urged them to go work in the countryside - echoes of the Mao era. None now want to do so. Then throw in the work force that is starting to show signs of rapid ageing thanks to the now abandoned one child policy. The losses of once the largest property developer Evergrande rose to US$340 billion last year, making it the global real estate's largest indebted developer. To all intents and purposes it is bankrupt. Hot on its heels, this week now the nation's largest developer, Country Garden, warned the Hong Kong Stock Exchange that it will see a $7.6 billion loss for the first 6 months of this year. No less than 30 real estate companies have already defaulted on overseas loans. The government has increased loans to the sector but they are essentially a pittance that will do nothing to stop the slide. Worse for the government, in a country where it is usual to pay much of the value up front for property, last year millions of mortage holders rioted when developers could not deliver promised apartments. Indeed, many had stopped construction altogether. Given that China's construction market accounts for a third of the nation's economic output and about 70% of personal wealth, economists agree that the present crisis affecting disruption of such a massive sector will inevitably have an affect on the global financial system. The Food and Drug Administration just granted over-the-counter sale marketing authorization for MED3000, a topical gel created to treat erectile dysfunction (ED). The medication was developed by U.K.-based Futura Medical and will be the first topical OTC treatment for ED that’s available in the U.S. without a prescription, according to a news release. “Over-the-counter medications play a significant role in providing accessible and convenient treatment for a wide range of common health conditions—with erectile dysfunction being a very common condition,” says Amy Pearlman, M.D., a Miami-based board-certified urologist specializing in male sexual and hormonal health and co-founder of the Prime Institute. Eroxon, the brand name for MED3000, is currently available in Belgium and the U.K. It claims to “help you get an erection within 10 minutes.” But, even with the OTC medication available, it’s still a good idea to see your doctor, Dr. Pearlman says. ED can sometimes signal an underlying medical problem, like heart disease or diabetes, that needs to be treated separately. Here are five things to know about the new topical gel and how it can help if you’re struggling to get an erection: 1. It Targets the Problem and Works Quickly. Vinapu's explanation that it is the boy's interest to register his off with the bar (even if it was 6pm and the bar wouldn't be open yet) is credible. Even if that wasn't the guy's motivation, I think it speaks to his integrity as a sort-of- employee to make sure the bar got its cut. You appreciated his honesty earlier when he reminded you that he had already received his fee. There's no reason to think he is not honest with his boss.

Answer is no. How I know? On last trip I took the same guy twice, once during day, once past opening hours. He told me no need to pay fee for daytime as bar is closed. But requested 500 for off fee for our evening meet. Keep in mind report to work time may be bit different than bar opening hours.

Sorry, but "no". That said, I think there are definitely two basic and important discussion issues - one primarily for those visiting and one for those actually living in Thailand. We have a pretty good idea of how many posters belong to each camp. But do we have any real idea of total readership and their prorities? Now, of course, with the expansion of the site, we have the Latin America sections. I have surprised myself as I find quite a few posts there really interesting. I suggest it's both the variety and volume of the posts that keep this Board interesting. I note that on other similar Thai-based Boards, the volume of posts is now reduced to 1 or 2 per day, with some days when there are no new posts. We should consider ourselves very fortunate that this Board is alive and well whatever one's particular interests may be.

I have to add to the above that it is many years since I've been in a gay Thai bar, even though bars were the reason I started going to Pattaya in prehistoric days. Nevertheless, I still enjoy reading about them- even the muscle bars which would never have been my cup of tea- and the guys that work in them, or used to. Such posts encourage discussions about the things I really care about now; gay life in Thailand, Thai society and politics, travel and my interesting decades with an ex-bar boy. And I nearly forgot.; Thai food.

I had considered a move to Thailand at some stage and was looking at the 20 year elite visa but after what I read about the changes that is no longer an option, retirement visa was also an option but I have read there are rumblings that the new government (if it ever forms up) could well be cracking down on that visa (no doubt a crackdown on the agents etc). I have also looked elsewhere, no real interest in Laos or Cambodia, Malaysia is a distant possibility but I have some doubts, I would love to live in Singapore but a lack of long term visas makes that a non starter and much the same for Vietnam and their lack of long term visas. That really leaves 3 options, stay home in Australia and just visit but visit more often, Thailand and risk a retirement visa or the Philippines. Visa wise the Philippines is relatively easy and has been on my radar for some time now but the infrastructure there sucks in comparison to Thailand. Health wise my choice of place to live in the Philippines is a long bus trip away from Manila (at least 5hrs depending on traffic) so would be relying on local hospitals in case of emergency and I would say private health insurance would be a must to get into the good hospitals like St Lukes in Bonifacio Global City or Makati Medical center. The thinking cap is on and visa wise I am keeping a keen eye on what's happening, also continuing to buy lotto tickets just in hope.

If u want to skip off fee, take him outside bar operating hour, after bar closes or during the day before he has to go to his bar. When I have time before flying home from BKK, I walk to the gates in the opposite direction and then all the way back. Last time then came a gate change and i had to go again to the other end of the airport. But I don' t mind a little walk before sitting 11 hours in a plane in a luxurious economy seat (saved money will be invested in Thai economy on next visit).

That is certainly the general consensus. But there are always exceptions and I have to say here that I am one. I am closer to 70 than 60 and my partner of 4 years is still in his 20s. I have told him many times that I will never stand in his way should he find someone younger who can offer him the chance of a longer life together. He refuses to consider it! Not only have I never taken him abroad, he has said he has no desire to travel abroad other than one day to visit Europe!

Given that Chiang Mai did not have a Pride Parade for almost ten years, the tourist director's comments are something of a joke! He clearly forgets that the 2009 Pride Parade had to be called off due to harrassment from local protest groups and near violence from hundreds of thugs wearing red shirts as the police stood by watching and doing nothing. Through megaphones, one group of citizens shouted that the "Parades destroy our beautiful culture." Parades restarted in 2019 but I am told on a relatively small scale. Add to that general feeling of local hostility towards the LGBT community, many dozens of gay venues have closed in recent years that virtually all Chiang Mai has to offer is local culture. That certainly is worth exploring and enjoying, but gay tourists want something to do in the evenings. Having visited the bars now almost all located on the street across from Le Meridien, I cannot believe most tourists would enjoy them. Hence my view that the local tourist director is talking through a hole in his head. The emphasis here is clearly in "wealthy". I was an occasional patient at Bumrungrad off and on for about 20 years. During that time I have seen what the concentration on medical tourism has done. Bumrungrad can now give you a feeling more like a hospital might be in Saudi Arabia given the influx of medical tourists from Middle Eastern countries. Call me racist but i still feel something is wrong when you see a couple with the woman wearing a full black burka covering even her face and the husband in shorts and a Hawaiian shirt. There is no doubt it is an excellent hospital but prices have risen very dramatically, especially in recent years. BNH (Bangkok Nursing Home) on Soi Convent is another excellent hospital and I find its prices almost half those at Bumrungrad. But even these cannot match those in the best hospitals in India which I believe are around half for equally fine facilities and equally trained doctors. Almost all East Asian countries are after the medical tourism dollar. Thailand may win out on reputation and the enjoyment of recovery from a procedure at a nice beach resort. But have your Platinum card at the ready!

Not being a retiree, I can only make short visits to Thailand, or anywhere else in Southeast Asia, for that matter. So, as mentioned above, paid sex at business locations is the most time-effective way to get what I need. Except when one is hiring someone one has engaged before, it's always hit and miss. Paid sex hired through various digital platforms (also hit and miss), I have tried and given up. As have some of my friends for similar reasons - fake pictures, badly delayed arrival, the inconvenience of having to meet outside first, etc. Someone I know even had security issues with a guy he invited to his hotel despite meeting outside beforehand and paying for expensive coffee. Fortunately I haven't been in a similar situation.
