Pita ‘ready to be Thailand’s 30th prime minister’
Ruthrieston and one other reacted to reader for a topic
From CNBC Bans, betrayals and stalemates: How Thailand’s old guard could respond to election results Thailand’s preliminary election results was a triumph for the progressive Move Forward party but its reforms are set to threaten conservative forces that may move to prevent the pro-democracy party from governing. Move Forward’s leader and chosen prime ministerial candidate Pita Limjaroenrat has announced a six-party coalition that includes Pheu Thai, a populist, pro-democracy party that came second in the election. This gives the coalition 310 seats in parliament’s 500-seat lower house. Whoever the coalition appoints as prime minister must win 376 parliamentary votes — a combined number from the 250-seat, military-appointed Senate and the lower house. The vote for PM is expected in August after the Election Commission certifies election results. Analysts say Move Forward faces a daunting task to shore up the remaining 66 vote due to its controversial proposed policies — a new constitution, ending military dominance in politics, abolishing mandatory military conscription, abolishing business monopolies and revising the lese-majeste law that punishes insults to the king with jail time. The Move Forward party recently said potential coalition partners don’t need to support its stance on lese-majeste as it plans to table it in parliament independently — its refusal to compromise could also isolate prospective allies and most of the junta-led Senate. Ahead of the prime ministerial vote, political watchers anticipate a variety of outcomes, including the possibility of forced intervention by the country’s powerful military-monarchy alliance. “Move Forward’s agenda is an affront and a frontal challenge to the established centers of power,” said Thitinan Pongsudhirak, a professor at Chulalongkorn University’s Faculty of Political Science and a senior fellow at its Institute of Security and International Studies. “It is likely a matter of when and how — not whether — they will strike back.” Given Move Forward’s dogmatic stance, experts expect some kind of power play that would tailor outcomes to establishment preferences. Arch-royalists could go as far as to ban Move Forward, the Council on Foreign Relations (CFR) warned in a report. It’s a plausible scenario since royalist-conservative elites have sway over official bodies like the Constitutional Court, National Anti-Corruption Commission and Electoral Commission. Opposition party Future Forward, for instance, was dissolved by the Constitutional Court in 2020 for violating election laws in the 2019 election — a charge that Human Rights Watch called“politically motivated.” “The courts could find ways to nullify enough Move Forward and Pheu Thai victories to alter the balance of power,” echoed analysts at the Center for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS) in a separate report. There’s also a chance Pita himself could be targeted. He was recently charged with a constitutional violation for being a small shareholder of a now-defunct media company while serving as an member of parliament, which he denies. This could be potential grounds for his disqualification and enable the less-radical Pheu Thai to lead the coalition, according to Pongsudhirak. There is a precedent for Pita’s case to be cleared, noted Napisa Waitoolkiat, a political scientist at Naresuan University. In 2001, the Constitutional Court acquitted former premier Thaksin Shinawatra of concealing assets even after he was indicted for corruption charges, she said. “If the elites choose to respect the votes of Thai people, they can certainly do the same this time as they did towards Thaksin in 2001.” There are other ways for the Senate to block Move Forward. Senators could abstain from voting and refuse to confirm Pita, leading to a stalemate, according to CSIS. T he Senate could also countermand lower house MPs’ choice of prime minister, unless the hard-to-reach super majority of 376 votes is secured, Susannah Patton, director of the Southeast Asia Program at the Lowy Institute, said in a report. She pointed to statements from senators who hinted they won’t automatically endorse the winning party’s nominee. “Conservative forces have all the necessary tools at their disposal to prevent Move Forward from taking government,” Patton concluded. https://www.cnbc.com/2023/05/23/how-thailands-military-old-guard-could-respond-to-election-results.html2 points -

Got it. I read stories from every site mentioned so far.. Politico is my go to site every day. Since it's all politics, all well written, and all well reasoned given my point of view. Real Clear Politics is my other go to site every day precisely because it offers a "Bernie to Bannon" perspective. It used to be viewed as more or less truly independent. Since MAGA times it has taken a right turn. As a lefty, that is why I like it. They'll post articles from lots of left wing places like In These Times or The Nation, but also even more right wing pieces on the same subjects. So you get a lot of different perspectives, if you want them.2 points -

Current Cambodian airport near Angkor Wat to close
vinapu and one other reacted to macaroni21 for a topic
My thoughts exactly. But where else would Cambodia get that kind of money from? Quite likely, someone in the Belt and Road department convinced the Cambodian government that if they built a massive airport, direct flights from USA, Europe and Russia would magically appear. Did anyone mention "supply and demand"?2 points -

From Pattaya. Mail Following the near-completion of a brand new airport 50 km east of Siem Reap, the current flight base close to the Angor Wat temple complex will close in October 2023. The Cambodian civil aviation authorities have confirmed that the old airport will no longer be used for public flights. Government spokesman Chanserey Vutha said the new airport, though much further away, was necessary to boost the number of international flights and to end the environmental damage to the Siem Reap ancient ruins caused by aircraft vibrations and pollution. The spokesman added that current tourist numbers are only about 40 percent of the boom year of 2019 during which over 6 million foreigners entered the kingdom. Once the new airport is operational in October, he expected at least 300 flights a week to and from a variety of Chinese cities. The US$1 billion dollar structure has been built largely with Chinese loans and grants, channeled through the Yunnan Investment Group. Separately, Phnom Penh is also to have a new airport Techo Takhmao International which is scheduled to open in 2024. Situated in Kandal province and about 35 km from the city, it will be the ninth largest in the world and will contain the latest hi-tech features for communication and safety. Currently, the main limiting factor for international Cambodian tourism is the lack of direct flights from the USA, Europe, Russia and India with most passengers transiting in Bangkok. That brake will soon be lifted.1 point

I have met so many guys from Twitter and Only Fans and Instagram. It is often not easy and takes time. But, tonight, my superstar came over and I had a good time with him. I have only been following him since Covid and he chats with me but never would come here. But, my patience paid off and this stud came over rock hard and ready to rumble. Happy times!1 point

I dropped into the store in Shinjuku this morning. I got out of the elevator on the 3rd floor and was confronted with this display right in front of me. The second pic says it's time to get your first tenga when you turn 18 (a bit late!) I doubt such a display could be found at the Silom Donki, given the Thai government's reluctance to allow the sale of sex toys.1 point -
For sure private operators will step in but with 50 km away it will be costly and time consuming.1 point

Your overall impression is similar to mine. Several weeks in Rio each of past 2 winters. I need to get away from northern cold and there is always the hope that a nice volume of impressive looking trade will make the travel distance worthwhile. Fortunately, the cost of living for extended vacationing there is very manageable and nonsexual aspects are fine, though getting rather same old same old routine. Expectations for access to guys that appeal has required some adjustment. Fewer and farther between but generally positive exchanges. Nobody that I absolutely need to repeat with. Not much evidence of “new crop” phenomena. I no longer experience withdrawal upon return home, no longer immediately look at flights to help in coping with missing the opportunities that used to have more ‘wow factor’ and contribute to the regret of leaving. If my home base was Europe I doubt that I would go to Brazil other than for seasonal southern hemisphere climate. I have no strong desire to return to Rio. That level of indifference would have been inconceivable several years ago.1 point

Looking for advice on massage spas for - not for massage!
jeremy reacted to Travellerdave for a topic
Whilst I am Pattaya based I often have a day in Bkk when my usual routine would be to have a morning cruise on the river followed by massage and sex in one of the parlours later on. I usually do some research online as to location and what is available, but it’s usually rather hit and miss as to the quality of the massage and then how enjoyable is the sex. These days I’m mostly bottom and 100% that way in the parlours. I want top boys who are well equipped and rock hard when it comes to penetration, and also to be patient when I ask them to slow down. It’s a happy day when these 3 factors come together.1 point -
I am doing 5 weeks Colombia tour and while I had paid sex, I decided to visit as much saunas as possible. Short recap: Pereira Salamander. Small, I visited 3 times, 2 times had oralsex with twink. Not busy but seemed action focused. Central location. Manizales Alma Viva - few visitors, it has a jacuzzi in the basement. I was soaking there with super handsome guy (could be sent to Dolce Gabana ad campaign). It seemed he was not looking or I was shy. Had luck with one moreno guy in the steam room. Alma is in Zona Rosa, the entrace is disguised - no logo, you have to take stairs next to the casino, then you arrive in a snack shop and the owner wants to sell you snacks. But you insist „sauna“ and then the secret door is opened. Manizales Pilatos - city center located ugliest so far (combined with sex video shop). However I saw probably the hottest guy. He was like Belami futball player, fit, handsome. He was running around (or they were running with him) with one super obese daddy and another 60+ dude. I could not figure out whats going on - friends, fetish, escort? I could not approach him and soon the trio was gone. One of the learning was, less analyses, more initiative and action is required. This sauna is really sex focused, nothing else to enjoy. Second visit - no futball player (I was ready to fight😀), but one ca 35-40 y muscled or ripped dude with sexy face. He was radiating so much sex appeal and I made out with him a bit, but for some reasons stopped. Probably my loss! Cali Phiscus - cheap and central, lots of guys. New gringo faces are welcomed. I visited three times, all times had oral or anal sex, including very handsome fit hispanic twink. Two times guys offered weed, which was strong and maybe not so good idea in sauna. I was hallucinating, but never lost my mind (or locker key). Had sex with one young fucker on weed, which was great. I saw incredibly beatiful young muscle guy, he smoked also weed and then looked closest available partner for him. As one forum member said, it has a cute resident escort and handsome caretaker, both from Venezuela. CaliClub - a party sauna with DJ and excellent facilities. Guys in phiscus said „sundays it is full of young and hot guys“. Midweek it had few guests, it is more expensive and not so central. Phiscus is best on fridays and saturdays (open until 4am, but guests leave 3am) and I would try caliclub on sunday (open until 10 pm only). The sauna experience depends a) your hotness, b) supply and demand, c) your initiative and action, d) communication. A is givven by the genes, but b-d can do miracles. I found saunas are good place to enjoy and learn more about the scene, especially if you dont have time pressure. Slurp cold beers, chat and check out the guys. No complaints about the staff in the saunas, friendly and helpfull. I was also in Bogota Dark Club, which is naked cruising club. Was fun, lots of people on Friday and Sarurday. Dark Club had younger crowd then saunas and the guys were not shy. But even in saunas, I noted that there is a lack of older guys. In Germany, saunas attract fair share of older dudes who drink beer and socialize. Not so much in Colombia.1 point

From the Thaiger Thai authorities apprehended a 17 year old male suspected of being involved in a child prostitution ring in the heart of Bangkok. The suspect allegedly lured male and female minors to sell sexual services in a “swinging” fashion. A background check revealed the suspect had been caught in a human trafficking case previously. Police Colonel Theerasak Janthraphiphat, head of the Bangkok Civil Division, together with Deputy Police Lieutenant Colonel Piyarat Wessakoson, directed Police Lieutenant Colonel Jakree Nareepon, head investigator of the Civil Division, to lead a team to arrest the suspect. They managed to capture him at a hotel on Ban Phan Thom Street in the Phranakorn district of Bangkok, along with three other male individuals. The Civil Division in Bangkok received a tip from an undercover informant that the suspect was secretly offering child prostitution services involving minors under 18 years old at the mentioned hotel. The authorities devised an entrapment plan, pretending to purchase sexual services via Facebook. They reached an agreement for 700 baht per person, as well as an additional 1,500 baht for arranging the service providers. Upon reaching the predetermined meeting time, the undercover informant went to the hotel accompanied by police officers who discreetly monitored the area. They discovered four service providers between the ages of 14 and 19 engaging in “swinging” or group sex activities with the suspect. The officers subsequently identified themselves and detained all involved individuals for further questioning.0 points
