Don't be offended. They are trying to survive the best way possible. Some of them are very sincere. I have two guys I met 20 years back and still friends with and have seen in different countries and they have never asked for money. But, the fact they were able to leave Brazil, tells you they are smart and motivated. I once had a guy give me sob story about all his money I left him not to work until I return was stolen at gunpoint. I asked him how the bank was doing with the armed robbery and I didn't read anything about it in the paper. He was confused until he remembered I took him to the bank and deposited it for him instead of giving him cash. Oh, well, good try.5 points

I lived and worked in Khao Lak a few years ago. I would definitely going there for a relaxing on the beach. Beautiful, not overcrowded and great hotels. I recommend staying in one of the resorts in Bang Niang town as you will have some restaurants and a nice night market there. Better than sitting in one of the many more remote resorts in my opinion. Before covid there was a fun ladyboy cabaret but I was told that place didn't survive the pandemic. Apparently there's a new gaybar in town. But for a remote town as Bang Niang I wouldn't expect too much of it. And you probabaly want to bring your favourite Bangkok or Phuket boy with you to Khao Lak to be sure to have some "fun". When I stayed in Khao Lak area there used to be almost none gays on grindr in the area. Thank god for my regular visits to Phuket and Bangkok during my working months in Khao Lak... Haha! Great excursions can be done from Khao Lak are. Khao Sok National Park, Similan Islands, Sunday Market in Takua Pa old town... Always love reading everyone's trip reports... Can't wait for yours!4 points

El Cerro de las Tres Cruces - Medellín
Latbear4blk and 2 others reacted to macdaddi for a topic
If you are looking for a different way to spend a Sunday in Medellin and enjoy some serious eye candy, you may want to do the hike up to El Cerro de las tres cruces, or as it is known to local gays El cerro de las seis cuadritos. You can Google translate that one, This is not an easy hike and you will need to be prepared for a serious workout. This is a favourite on the weekend for friends to get together and “sweat out” Saturday nights’ regrets. But if you commit to the hike to the summit, there are stellar views of the city of Medellín and many many well cared for bodies. This is the highest point in the city accessible on foot, so the trek is popular and there are vendors along the ways selling water, coffee and fruit. The new trend of Paisa’s wearing only sheer tights for the hike up might be enough inspiration for you to complete the full trip to the final summit.3 points -
A bit out of the gay falang favourite Silom area, but while scrolling twitter I found this fetish cafe: 500cafe. Location on Google maps: https://g.page/r/CUrXQRX8mnJ8EBM Looks exciting, something else than the regular places. I'm not a hardcore fetish person, but still looks interesting. The Begging Culture of Brasilian Sex Tourism

There are guys who rely on money earned from play-for-pay interactions, and guys who occasionally or frequently offer their talents in a less professional way. In Rio de Janeiro, in Club 117, I've had sex with what I'd describe as professional sex workers ... and others who infrequently engage in GP trade. It may be difficult to discern in advance, but I prefer the "infrequent" garoto. In my 70+ years of life, I've befriended many guys who I first met in a play-for-pay transaction. Some have become good friends. Most of these friendships have been in Chicago, Mexico City or Acapulco. I have and do place the interactions in separate compartments ... successfully ... and oftentimes they are "friends with benefits" (no money exchanged for the sex). But, always, something is exchanged ("in kind").3 points -

If you do that, and the management slows you to do so, you will pay from the moment you take the keys to the moment you return them. But normally, the management wants to record both parties going in and out each room (using locker key numbers), for safety and damages purposes.3 points -

Wow really!!? That's impressive. I don't think I throw off a 'rich guy' vibe as you put it, at least not intentionally. I think the mere fact you're in Brazil as a tourist from the UK/USA/AUS etc indicates, to them at least, that you have some level of disposable income to which they feel entitled.3 points -

It's always hard to know what is genuinely a need or what is the need in their mind. I love the Dominican Republic(as well as Brazil). In my mind --and I really hesitate to characterize-- the Dominicans seem to have the least trouble looking for a handout. For sure things are not easy there. On the other hand their concept of need sometimes means being able to live like their cousins or family in Miami who have managed to get a visa. I know one guy there who pleaded with me to bring him the latest iPhone because his phone wasn't working. I politely declined. When I got there he had a newer, larger phone than I did and it worked just fine. He sort of laughed when I called him on it. He asks me for money constantly sending me pictures of an empty refrigerator--but I am over it. In another instance I met a guy in the beach in the DR one evening. We chatted briefly and exchanged Facebook links, I had no interest in sex. The next day I got a message saying he had lost his phone and could I buy him a new one. By contrast the lower to middle class Brazilians (non sexual) I have met have never asked for a cent and are just grateful to see me and hang out. Of course I compensate the guys in the sauna appropriately.3 points -

Making a connection with the a GP can both be a good a bad thing. They can develop a stickiness that is often not very attractive (not all, some endearing). I make it quite clear that my life in Brazil is completely separate to my life at home. I simply will not reply when it the messaging gets too heavy.3 points -
Did you enjoy the visit to Salvador? For me the city is fascinating, but I got so many warnings from locals on the streets and in shops, I never felt comfortable. Had a good time in one of the saunas, beautiful men and mostly pleasant to be with. One tried to bully me into giving him more money and he made me nervous. I just kept telling myself he won't assault me in the sauna if it's a regular source of income for him. He was incredibly beautiful physically, but actually seemed sinister. From Salvador I went to Boipeba south of the city. It was the offseason and almost all the tourist places were closed. The only close to regular vehicle was a jeep owned by the police. Some ATVs and a farm tractor that towed a wagon... full of drunk young city fellows one afternoon catcalling the young women on the street, people were laughing at them so I don't think they were offensive. A few hours later it came back, they were all more or less passed out in the wagon. It was kind of surreal. These golden young men in shorts and sandals sort of piled on top of each other. This was just before the start of the 2014 World Cup and pre-tournament exhibition games had started. As I walked by one of the small homes, the front door, just a few feet from the street was open and I saw the whole family, mom, dad and maybe three kids squished into a tiny couch, watching a game. I was raised in the Canadian version of that working class family and everybody was poor in those days and we did everything together as a family, including watching Hockey Night in Canada on Saturday evenings, us kids all squished into the couch. Mom always made hamburgers and it was the only time we were allowed to eat in the living room. It's funny as I move into old age how a lot of old memories are coming back.2 points

I've never been to Thermas Barcelona, but according to what you say they follow the same model as bathhouses in NYC. Over there, they have a menu with different admission fees granting you different access levels. You can pay for a fee that grants you a room and a locker for the entire time of your visit. The model in Brazilian saunas is different. They have a flat fee that gives you access to a locker and all the public areas for as long as you stay. The rooms can only be rented for 30' times slots. (about 30, I do not remember exactly) Theoretically, you could keep your key and the establishment would bill you the fee for each time slot with no differential discount. But this is only if the management allows you to keep the keys. I never heard of anyone doing so in Brazil. It is just a different business model that frames different sauna cultures.2 points -
Changes in store for Suvarnabhumi in March

From National News Bureau of Thailand Passengers Urged to Arrive Early Amid Potential Delays Suvarnabhumi International Airport has started rolling out upgrades to its security screening facility at its departure terminal. The airport also warned departing passengers of potential delays as checkpoints are partially closed due to this renovation. Suvarnabhumi Airport has advised departing passengers of potential delays caused by renovation work at its security checkpoints where new equipment is being installed. The airport is in the process of adding an automated tray return system at security checkpoints, where departing passengers are required to have their carry-on bags scanned for prohibited items. The new tray system will help double the capacity at checkpoints from 3,300 passengers per hour to 6,650. Once in operation, passengers can expect a faster process and less congestion at the airport. To handle the current situation, the airport said it is deploying additional staff members to help passengers and has coordinated with immigration police to ensure a sufficient number of personnel at passport control. Nonetheless, departing passengers are advised to arrive at least 3 hours before departure time in order to avoid any unexpected situations.2 points -
Stayed there when it had a good opening offer and liked the hotel. But have to say I have a weak spot for new modern hotels. Any of you guys visited the out-of-silom host bars? How was the expierence? I think the world is tough in lots of places these days. My tour guide in Sri Lanka who I spent a few weeks with going around the island asked me for money a couple of times. They've had a tough few years over there with their economy falling apart and tourism hitting the skids. He's got kids in school and a family to support so it wasn't a surprise when he contacted me asking for help. I did send him some money. Lots of desperate people in many countries. I don't begrudge anyone. It was clear to me that the Sri Lankan guy was really thankful and wouldn't have asked me if he wasn't really in bad shape.2 points

When living in Thailand it doesn't take long to expect it to be that way, so it rarely comes as a major shock or surprise to me. But things like that come as a very unpleasant surprise to people who don't understand the way things work in Thailand and have no idea how to deal with it when things happen. You either live with it and accept it as part of life in Thailand or Thailand is the wrong country to live in. The worst mistake I see foreigners make is if they try to argue when things like that happen. All that ever does is make things worse, often much worse, especially if they raise their voice.1 point

Pattaya bookshop clocks up 20 years
splinter1949 reacted to reader for a topic
From Pattaya Mail By Barry Kenyon The city’s unique book exchange with soft-drinks cafeteria is more popular than ever after being advised it would likely face closure. Canterbury-born Dave Collier, who runs the enterprise with his wife Yao said, “We were told many years ago that the internet and electronic books would doom a business venture like Canterbury Tales. In reality, we have expanded dramatically with more than 60,000 second-hand books being bought, borrowed and traded on a regular basis.” He adds that the shop never closed during the recent covid pandemic and still hosts a traditional gossip shop for UK expats every Monday. The internet has actually turned out a boon rather than a threat. “We regularly use Facebook to promote the business with regular updates and reviews of new arrivals,” explains Dave, “whilst our new premises in Soi Bongkot are much bigger and quieter than the old premises in Soi Pothole.” Canterbury Tales moved last September away from a bar and club district to a brighter and more reader-friendly district a couple of kilometers away. “We get a lot more foreign ladies and couples dropping in since the move.” The bookshop stock, which also houses a small selection of classic DVDs, is around 50-50 fiction and non-fiction. Wandering around the aisles and checking the shelves is an evocative delving experience with some rare finds. There are lots of books about Thailand and Pattaya including the very first exposure of the sex industry: Jack Reynolds’ “A Woman of Bangkok” published in 1956 and described as a “brutally frank story that will shock and enthrall.” And where else in Thailand might you find classics such as Homer’s Iliad and Odyssey, or a paperback highlighting the ten most ugly towns and cities in the UK? The books are mostly given or traded in by local expats, although Canterbury Tales now receives bulk donations and job lots from the estates of expats who have died. “We also ship orders all over Thailand as we have developed a niche market,” explains Dave. The book sections partially reflect the expat community population in Pattaya. For example, there are lots of volumes on the Vietnam war, recalling the arrival of many American expats during and after that conflict, plus an unexpected influx of medical books which may reflect the preoccupations of ageing expats more generally. The store is arranged alphabetically, though that’s more of a theory than a guarantee. The real deal is to wander and browse. On your right might be a large choice of horror fiction from Frankenstein to Stephen King and beyond, on your left science fiction and fantasy which go well together. European languages other than English are also represented, especially paperback novels. High on the shelves might be a history of football and a guide to self-improvement in golf, whilst lower down you’ll come across biographies of famous public executioners such as Albert Pierrepoint. Canterbury Tales is open daily 10 am to around 5 pm. Check Dave out on Facebook, or phone 086 575 4966.1 point -

I haven't been to a cabin in a sauna in a long time...once upon a time they were 1 hr rentals then reduced to 45 mins no idea what they are now. But the session could be until you get off which could be double charged for the cabin....it depends on what you negotiate with the guy. I like to go back to my apt or out to eat , drink talk etc....then sex. Usually takes 3 hrs and this they know when going with me. Is why I like SP more, guys tend to live closer and not like rio, hours away which makes their getting home more complicated.1 point -
