Preliminaries Normally January to April is NOT a period in which I travel due to work commitments. I wouldn’t even plan it but there are some issues brewing for later part of 2023 which may stop me from travel , at least from travel to Asia. And work load seemed lighter for this January as younger colleagues took the slack so just before Christmas I decided to book another trip to our beloved Land of Smiles. Time wise all I could afford was 2 weeks and that is what I aimed for. It will be also my first trip in January and February. When I return I’ll be left only with March , Apr and July to cover Some readers may recall following statement from my Oct/ Nov 2022 trip summary : “ Surprisingly perhaps guy I consider most memorable of the whole trip was one whom I did not even off, that hunk I met in bar in PP. Perhaps that’s good - reason to return there sooner the better.” Yes , I liked him a lot so as part of planned trip I booked flight for 3 days to Phnom Penh (PP ) just to check if he is still working there. In Oct he told me that he is not going with clients , just drinks with them in bar and when I tried to suggest he can accompany me for trip to Siem Reap he said he is busy till end of 2022 but may be available in next year. When in Siem Reap I made last effort to see if he would come to see me there but response was the same and this was last I heard from him. In short I gave up but being in the region I wanted to try once more. Applied for Cambodian e-visa and it was issued overnight so all I had to do was to wait for departure day month Iater. Guardian Angel had other plans for me though, right after New Year , out of blue Line message came from my guy asking ‘ How are you ?’ like he knew I’m coming . Which was not a case as very few people knew about my plans and nobody , including me , even knew his name or nick. It’s why I suspect Angel’s hand in that. I was thrilled and even more few hours later when new message arrived ‘ now I have time for us”. Obviously it seemed that he somehow remembered his ‘ next year possible ‘ statement. That landed me immediately on Cloud 7 if not 9 and that feeling did not leave me for quite few days. Even now on recollection I can’t help but smile. We ironed things fast, I suggested 5 days trip to either Angkor or Bangkok and Pattaya (3+2). He opted for Thailand but for some reason only for 3 days Bangkok part. Fine , what about 5 days in Bangkok ? Immediately it was approved ‘yes , 5 days”. He sent me copy of his passport so I could buy him ticket , outbound for exactly the same flight I was supposed to return to Bangkok originally. What about kissing? “yes I kiss and I want you to kiss me too”, “ I will do my best we have fun together”. Financial arrangements were set for both PP and Bangkok part. Being prime beef he knew his price but from my point of view what he asked for was roughly what I spend daily for massage and overnight session so I did not have any problems approving his request. Learning he has a car I suggested taking two trips to sights near PP by his car and offered price bit higher than travel office would charge expecting that premium goes toward stolen kiss or 5 somewhere on the road. All that took only 1 or 2 days during which I never left my cloud 9 happy mood fortified by few pictures he send me unsolicited ( no I will not post them here nor send to you by PM even if they were decent pictures , suitable for grandma to see ). Week later cloud 9 become bit cloudy indeed with message ‘ you should go to Bangkok before me “???? Why ? we are on the same flight but we can pretend we don’t know each other. “ I want to make sure you are in Bangkok before me since I did not travel for long time “. I find it strange but being NOT about to blow whole thing about additional ticket ( my original was not refundable, non changeable I asked if the same day is OK , it was , what about flight which takes off 20 minutes earlier ? It’s OK too. Very puzzling but I invested 80 $ in new ticket, cheap price considering I’m looking for 8 days in arms of one of best guys I ever put my eyes on. I have few ideas what may be reason but none convincing so I just let it go. After daily rounds of ‘how are you today ?” messages few days later more up to a point message came “ I did not travel for long and need new clothes, shoes and suitcase, can you send me 350 $”, Oho, ho though I, it starts already . I suggested that we can do shopping when I’m 3 days in PP but he said he prefers to do it now because there are great sales before Chinese New Year. Makes sense. But again , hoping for the best I sent him 200$ and promised to gift him my new suitcase I just bought, enforced it even with the picture. Fact that I put limit on request was noticed but with what seemed good humor. So now I descended from cloud 9 to level 5 if not 4 but still I’m thrilled with anticipation. Even see good point with that split flight as it could be escape route for me if those 3 days in PP will turn sour or something. 10 days to go and I really count days but seeing those requests I also start thinking about escape route if need arises. Then few days before departure next request comes , car loan of 426 $ to be repaid enforced with photo of previous payment. It looked authentic with payment due 3 days before my arrival in PP. Can I borrow him that money and subsequently deduct from his payments when we meet ? No, I don’t want to do any advance payments, organize money there I answered while confirming our financial arrangements. Answer was “ ok I understand , see you in PP in few days “ . So I’m still thrilled locking my door ready to go to the airport but seeing things are bit less rosy although not unexpected I resolved to leave money I set aside for him for Bangkok part in trusted hands in BKK and not to reveal name of hotel we will be in until we both land in Swampy. Also fact that I’m planning to change hotels after 3 nights as it’s my habit anyways is supposed to be hidden until morning of move. Just in case. That request to fly separately bothers me a bit it needs to be said, if only because I can’t come up with plausible explanation. I’m not overly suspicious realizing that some of it may be related to fact that while his spoken English is quite conversational , his written language is quite poor so that my be reason plausible explanation is not coming. Another factor tempering my excitement is concern how I will keep him entertained during those 5 days as his ideas of good time maybe different from mine but that is problem for us to solve in due course. Which is soon.

As this holiday ends and I am writing from Tokyo, just a few last words reflecting on my first hiring holiday in Thailand: 2 weeks in Bangkok (arrived an early Monday morning, left a late Saturday evening) I tried to sample a bit of everything, the Grindr boys, a boy from every famous bar and a masseur from every famous spa, and got each day an average of 4 or 5 orgasms (which all either happened in spas or my hotels) Total spent just on boys (*) THB 131,000 So we are talking about 12 * 4.5 = 54 orgasms, which gives me an average of THB 2425. Well it's only USD 280 more it's not something that will break your bank account and if you really like this guy I think I will do the same but be careful when dealing with him once you meet him on money issues and try to stick to the initial agreement. A contrary case happened to me on last December I was in contact with Chaturbate Colombian guy for more than a year and finally met him 2 months ago I don't know how it happened but we developed mutual feelings he never asked for money or demanded anything and at the end I gave him substantial amount that made him shocked, he told me that he stopped working at Chaturbate because he doesn't like it and wanted to start study so I told him this money is for his education which he appreciated very much .I also help him on monthly basis for me it's not a substantial amount but compared to the average salaries in Colombia it's enough for him to get by.

From The Thaiger The State Railway of Thailand (SRT) is offering trips on a slow train to monkey city, from Bangkok to Lopburi in the Northeast Thailand, on the refurbished Kiha 183 diesel-powered trains from Japan. The train leaves Bangkok’s historic Hua Lamphong Railway Station at 12.15pm and arrives A Thailand’s famous monkey city, Lopburi at 2.45pm. The return trip departs at 8.30pm and ends in Bangkok at 11.05pm. The trips this weekend and next will cost 599 baht. Only 200 seats will be available each day. The slow train to monkey city leads to a sightseeing tour of the historical area of Lopburi, which dates back over 3,500 years, as well as cultural performances and light-and-sound shows. Lopburi is one of the oldest cities in Thailand, home to King Narai’s Palace and Wat Phra Sri Rattana Mahathat. A visit to Lopburi is often a good way to get off the usual tourist trail of Thai cities. Seventeen second-hand passenger train carriages from Japan’s Hokkaido Railway Company arrived at Laem Chabang Port in Chonburi last December, with SRT covering the shipment cost of 42.5 million baht. The trains have been refurbished at SRT’s maintenance and repair centre in Bangkok’s Makkasan area. Three of the 17 diesel powered trains delivered in December 2021 are ready for trial runs after being modified by the SRT to fit Thai railways. The trains will be in use for another 15 to 20 years.

yes, that request is puzzling with no plausible explanation even is some are coming to mind : somebody else on that flight, somebody giving him a ride , doesn't want to be seen with old farang by airport personnel , even sinister one like asking me to carry something for him or like my friend suspects want's just to have free ticket to Bangkok as it will be easier to separate if we are not all flight time together. Other option is he is creating escape route for himself in case he doesn't like me after initial 3 days in PP which makes sense from his point of view. But those are just speculations so I took a risk and decided to go through. About money I exactly follow Boy69 logic so I yield twice, changed flight and send money although only bit more than half requested and declined more. I must say if I was reader of that story my advice would be exactly one you guys are giving me including declining flight change request on risk of cutting whole deal of. But I did not simply because I like the guy, as I said , best of whole month long trip even if we did not meet in intimate situation yet. Risk is calculated and financed, now I can only hope for the best outcome..

Songkran without a doubt is the best time of year to visit Bangkok. Large swathes of the city, like Silom Road, turn into all-out battlegrounds. One day many years back, when I couldn't wait for my Thai friends to wake up by noon, I ventured off on my own, making it well past the front lines, near Soi 4, and infiltrated the enemy's camp when I had to conclude that like my Thai friends, the enemy, too, was apparently still sleeping in. It was then that I spotted three enemy scouts -- three well-armed policemen. So I snuck up on their flank and started shooting. I caught the closest one to me by surprise and drenched him. You can't imagine my satisfaction, the sense of euphoria. But it must have been humiliating for someone trained to handle weapons and street combat. Or so I thought. Unfortunately my approach was not as stealthy as I had hoped, and all three officers, even the one who should be in a rage that he had just been shot by a foreign tourist, rounded on me, guns pointed at my chest. Only the first one began shooting, however. The other two ran to my flanks and within a second I was triangulated. When all three of them started shooting, I was the one who got drenched. I had to wave the white flag. So the moral of this story is: Do not shoot Thai police officers with your high-powered urban assault waterguns. They are not as sleepy as they look. In fact, they are likely decoying you, ready to pounce with their years of street combat training. And with waterguns filled with icy water. Actually, the moral of this story is do go to Bangkok during Songkran. Go into debt if you have to. You'll have more fun and excitement than you've had since your first trip to Disneyland. Or maybe even Babylon. When else can you assault police officers with a watergun and have them play wargames with you? It was such a good laugh. As for the natives leaving town during Songkran, in recent years that is more the exception than the rule. Bangkok becomes such a huge festival zone during Songkran that young Thais from all over the country migrate to the big, wonderful metropolis to join the wargames. But there's a lot more going on than aggressive watergun play. Some Thais -- and foreigners -- prefer carrying small buckets of water that they mix with colored chalk, walking up to strangers they think are cute, gently caressing some of the chalky mixture onto the faces of their objects of desire and saying, "Happy Songkran ka." So there's a lot of flirting going on in the streets, too. If you dig EDM festivals, the S2o Festival is one of the best in the world. Tiesto will be on hand this year. If I remember correctly, it opens at 4 in the afternoon and keeps going until midnight. This attracts young and old tourists from around the world. Definitely not a gay event ... but so much eye candy! It's delicious. At night, there is the SK party, a three-night circuit event that is much bigger and more extravagant than the massive White Party, which takes place in a smaller venue during New Year's. Again, lots of lickable eye candy here. As for the fun on Silom Sois 4 and 2, these zones are packed much fuller than on any other weekend of the year (except maybe New Year's). When Soi Twilight was still going, that street was a party all day and all night, so I imagine there will be at least a little activity in gay Patpong, if that's your kind of thing. And with all the gay tourists in town, the apps will be a smorgasbord of finely toned Asian asses, medium-size dicks and ripped abs. The downside to traveling to Bangkok during Songkran is it's expensive. However, you can slightly lower your hotel bill by booking through the gcircuit site https://www.gcircuit.com/hosthotels.php -- you don't have to have tickets to the actual event to book a hotel through their site. I've done it before. Or maybe ask for a frequent-guest discount at your favorite inn. I've had success begging for lower rates. I've also had success waiting until the last minute to book my flight, then pouncing when Thai Airways lowers its fares. Not sure if that's gonna happen this year as a lot of us have been waiting three years to finally get back at and ambush Bangkok's well-trained and disciplined police force. I'm gonna bring bigger and drunker friends, buy a bigger gun and fill it with icier ammo. Just you wait, coppers! Also, plan to stay for at least two weeks because when Songkran ends in Bangkok, sometime around April 15, then everybody hightails it to Pattaya, where the wargames continue until April 19. The watergun wars there are even more fun than along Silom as the baht buses, everyone in them, motorcycle taxis -- even arriving tourists and their suitcases -- are fair game. OK, everybody, fallout and reassemble at the foot of Silom at 1400 hours on April 13. If you're early, be wary of the cops who only seem to be minding their own business.

Burapa – 2023 – Back to the Culture – Ride for Peace motorbike parade Background Being a new retiree in the Pattaya / Jomtien area I am trying to experience many of the unique Thai cultural events that take place in my new home country, Thailand. This report is about the annual BURAPA Bike Week event that takes place each year (except during the pandemic years) in Pattaya. How did I find out about this unusual event? I am a member of the PCEC (Pattaya City Expats Club) and on 11 January 2023, Richard Rhodes, one of the founders of Burapa, was invited to give a talk about their annual event. Pattaya Mail article about the PCEC presentation of BURAPA I do not own a motorbike and I barely know how to drive one. So, I was not driven to see this event because of that but instead to see/learn about a different kind of not well known Thai happening. The below PRIME video gives a good summary of what they are about. Prime Video - Burapa: Bikers of the East Logistics I don’t own a car or motorbike, so, with 2 of my local friends (Thai / Laos – they were featured in my earlier New Year’s week events posting here), we took a BOLT taxi to the event. My Thai friend has a car – but he wanted to be able to drink and that is why we took a BOLT taxi. The Burapa Bike Week event is held at the Eastern National Sports Training Center in what the locals of Pattaya call, “the dark side” = Eastern Pattaya – east of the railroad tracks. Below map indicates where it is on the right hand side. It was a 120 baht fare from the Jomtien Dongtan beach area, and took about 35 minutes. Unfortunately, Google took us on a wild goose chase where for the last part of the trip it sent us on long and windy dirt roads that circumvent the northern part of these large grounds in true darkness – as there were no street lights. However, there was a ton of traffic – so it was slow going. For the return trip back to Pattaya – we made the mistake of trying to get a BOLT taxi from the northern point that we entered at – which is dark and on a dirt non asphalted road. The first 2 BOLTs that we called gave up – even though my 2 friends who can speak Thai tried to navigate the BOLT drivers to where we were – it was just too dark to find us – even though there was a ton of traffic all around us. So, now I know where the “Dark Side” of Pattaya originates from. I prepared the below map for all of you so you can avoid our mistake – which was caused by Google navigation that the original BOLT driver used. I strongly suggest that you arrive and depart this event from the SOUTH part of these grounds on the well lite Chaiyaphruek 2 Road. See the below 2 exit points indicated in green. The third BOLT driver that eventually found us where the above RED X is indicated on the below map – explained to us that for future visits we should always wait for a taxi on Chaiyaphruek 2 Road – as it is asphalted and well lite. Our trip back to Pattaya (Jomtien) was a breeze and quick. Ride for Peace On the third day of this 3 day event was the annual, “Ride for Peace”, where hundreds of motorbikes drive from the fairgrounds in eastern Pattaya down Beach Road in Pattaya City, and then continue onwards to Jomtien Beach Road and then return to the fairgrounds. So, around 3:30pm, yesterday (11 Feb 2023), with my 2 friends we walked over to the Police Box at the beginning of Dongtan Beach to wait and watch for the arrival of the motorbikes. Some had said that 500 would come – but I estimate that around 200 motorbikes passed us on Beach Road. It was kind of exciting – more for the surprise of the many unaware tourists who were going about their beach business and for all of the bahtbuses that were blocked from moving until the 200 motorcyclists had passed by. This made me aware of the fact that this event is not well advertised / known outside of the motorcycle community. We even asked the local motorcycle taxi guys if they knew when the parade would start and they did not even know what we were talking about. So, my Thai friend went into the Police Box and they told us that they were already on our way as they had already left Pattaya City and were heading for Jomtien. In about 10 minutes the entire thing was over. Below is a photo from the short film that I made (notice the motorcyclist riding with a LARGE live snake). Fair Grounds This place is HUGE – so dress accordingly – in shoes/sneakers that are good to walk in and you do not mind walking in the dirt. They laid down hay everywhere to reduce the dust and this was very effective. The main attractions are: The two BIG concert areas – structured on opposite sides of the fair grounds. One is exclusively Thai rock bands and the other one is foreign falang rock bands coming from the UK, Australia, USA, and Europe. There are plenty of places to sit and/or stand to watch the concerts and nearby are places to buy drinks (Chang beer was one of the main event sponsors), including cannabis infused drinks, like ganja. Performance area – where the motorbike guys show off their very interesting motorbikes – they slowly ride back and forth amongst the crowds. It makes this event very exciting – as if to be in a movie or Medieval or Renaissance festival. There were many sexy motorbike guys – especially the young ones. Market place – this was my favourite part of this festival. On the outer perimeter of the above mentioned areas, there are these narrow winding dirt paths FULL of individuals / organizations selling their wares. Including; t-shirts, leather wear, motorcycles – even Italian Vespas, Harleys, etc., pottery, knitwear that was very ornate and detailed – some of it was in native Indian style, places to eat, cannabis, tattoo shops, jewelry, food, drinks, opportunities to have your photos taken with various artistic types with a motorcycle emphasis, chances to sit ontop of horses and have your picture taken with native Indians (Thai people), visit Indian tepees, boot shops, etc. I was totally amazed of the potpourri of offerings that were available in this marketplace, as I had never seen anything like it before in my life. In conclusion, would I go again? YES, but I would be better prepared – from a transportation point of view. Also, since this event is held over 3 days, I would try to arrive earlier – we arrived around 7pm – to instead arrive around 4:30pm – just to see some of the daytime shows and to see what the fair grounds look like during the day. I highly recommend this event to all of you. Note that the entire access to the fairgrounds is FREE – great value for money. You only spend if you want to eat/drink or buy merchandise. The concerts and entertainment are ALL free. I share some of my pictures below.

From Pattaya Mail HM King Bumibol and Queen Sirikit both music aficionados met with Elvis Presley on the set of G.I. Blues during their visit to Paramount Studies. On this occasion HM King Bhumibol presented Elvis with a combined cigarette and lighter case produced by the Thai Nakorn company. This company was the best silversmith in Bangkok at the time and were bestowed the Garuda emblem by HM the King. The engraving on the front of the box read, “To Elvis Presley Hollywood 1960” and on the inside of the box, the words “King Bhumibol Adulyadej To the King of Rock ดnด Roll” were engraved. Included in the engraving was the stamp of the producer of the box “THAI NAKORN SIAM STERLING” with the Garuda in the middle. Elvis Presley gave the unique combined lighter and cigarette box to Ursula Adelaide Aylmer (Nixon) who was working in America as an English teacher in the 1960s and had come to know or work for Elvis. Ursula Adelaide Aylmer kept the box until she passed away in 2021 at the age of 92. The family decided to sell the box and it will be offered in the Eur-Seree auction in Bangkok on 1-2 April 2023. Other interesting objects at the Eur-Seree auction is the Tamlung, 4 Baht, in gold struck in 1864 to commemorate King Mongkut, Rama IV’s 60th Birthday. On the obverse is the Crown with rays flanked by Umbrellas with three branches in the background and bordered by 32 stars, each star representing one Fuang. On the reverse is the inscription “Krung Siam” enclosed within a frame and the Chinese legend “Cheng Ming Tung Pao” outside the frame. “Cheng Ming” is the name of Rama IV in Chinese and “Tung Pao” means “lawful money. "I wouldn't forgive myself if I did not try in this case", well everything is said, you really really like him... despite the red flags his behavior has risen. You are smart enough to have some escape options, "in case of" and you will quickly see in PP if his behavior is acceptable or not for you. Maybe the question you may ask yourself is what you are ready to accept from him when you will be together (not been seen together when hanging out...?). Maybe all of this says a little about what kind of boy you are now attracted by 🙂. Obviously not by the sweet caring asian boy acting like a boyfriend... this one is clearly not this kind of MB... Be ready for this...(and keep an eye on your money spendings)

yes and no. I take seriously all warning signs and take precautions watching my back and having escape routes. But yes ,I want and hope for deal to go through. Knowing myself for quite a while I know I wouldn't forgive myself if I did not try in this case. It's why I invested in tickets and send him that 200 $. But I'm not desperate , it's why I took risk of denying 2nd requested installment exactly for reason somebody mentioned above - I want to see some action first. Those 3 days in PP should clear waters either way so I'm excited but also prepared for disappointment and indeed for trouble. I also start worrying about potential problem if everything will go well indeed - how to keep him entertained in those 5 days in Bangkok. Found already well equipped gym nearby as he is fitness buff. Truth is I don't know him other than three nights of drinking in the bar with some discreet under the table action. But it's also his case for me - he doesn't know me as well and may keep in mind fate of those who were taken as toy boy and dumped with nothing. Several years ago it was guy in Tawan who was taken as trophy boy to Malaysia for a month , was treated well, dining shopping partying , all expenses paid. But at end of stay was sent back with 3000 baht total for all that trouble. No doubt cases like that are on boy's minds.

In his column in he Pattaya Mail, Barry Kenyon suggests that the 45-day visa on arrival (originally set to expire on March 31) is being extended to the end of 2023. The last I read that the Tourism Authority had recommended the extension but I'm unable to confirm that it has received government approval. By Barry Kenyon Thailand is no exception to the worldwide rule that immigration entry procedures depend on your nationality. Below we list some of the most popular countries – which provide the majority of tourists to Thailand – and update the rules for those who have not obtained a prior visa before departure at their local Thai embassy. Since October 2022, more encouragement has been given to this less-bureaucratic mode of entry by the Thai government to maximize international tourist numbers from favored countries. In general, there is no longer a requirement to show vaccination records or medical insurance on arrival, nor to undergo covid testing. Passports must have six months validity left. UK, US, EU, Australia These are amongst the 64 or so countries which are visa-exempt and their nationals (by air or land or sea) are given 45 days without payment rather than the former 30. The rule change was due to end at the end of March 2023, but is now set to continue even to the end of the calendar year. The 45 days can be extended another 30 days at local immigration for 1,900 baht (50 pounds) giving a total of 75 days visa exempt. Day 1 Super long flight to Bangkok , as always I booked aisle seat in middle section in the last row because I noticed that it increases chance seat beside will be unoccupied and that bet was successful. Empty seat indeed , what is better, one of only 2 or 3 free seats in the whole 787-9. I don’t watch movies so had 4 books with me but it seems melatonin helped this time, not that I slept much but spent considerable part of flight in at least half sleep stage. So finished only book and half. Arriving in Bangkok in early morning, just as day broke , I hoped for short immigration lines but it was not a case as it looked few big planes dumped human load at the same time. Booths were staffed properly and while lines lengths were scary it moved quite fast. Normally I travel with carry on only but this time I had proper luggage – remember that promised suitcase to be given to my Cambodian Charming Prince.(CCP ) Reason was more prosaic though, this time both seat selection and 1 piece of luggage was included in price so I did not bother with economizing. Fate co-ordinated it nicely , as soon as I approached conveyor my suitcase popped out. Since my CCP reacts well to red wine by his own admission I carried 2 bottles for him in my luggage and was happy to find out they arrived intact. Early train to the city was surprisingly full from airport , visible sign tourism rebounded with vigor. Baan Silom was aware I will be late, I booked for night before as I wanted to be sure arriving early I will have bed and shower available and lady on reception greeted me “ You finally arrived “ . I noticed that weather was very pleasant , in the morning even bit chilly and it lasted for more than a week, only in last 3-4 days of my stay temperatures and humidity rise noticeably. Returning to hotel on my way I booked an appointment for tomorrow at Dr. Smile on Silom as I have some repairs to be done. I use them for years. No prblms with visitiors; on th econtrary, you've already read about their helpful conduct in the two incidents. cons: VERY slow-to-arrive hot water; basic and bland brkfst.
