Back in Thailand from Laos - November 2022 trip report

Day 3 We continued having our good time we had in the afternoon well into night with no phone in sight to my great relief. Only in the morning he asked me if I don’t mind , I did not. Tipped him as agreed and it was rewarding to see his happy smile. I used this occasion to steal another kiss accompanied by his shy smile as it’s a bit novelty to him. When I saw him before this trip he was not into kissing at all. Only my charm ( read my tips) converted him at least temporarily. He did not like food at restaurant we had breakfast last time so we took songtaew to KISS on second Road. After that we parted ways and agreed to meet at noon. On my way I ordered taxi in one of booths along the street had last stroll through the sois , packed up and yes , on the dot at noon both taxi and HC showed up. In 2 hours we were at 56 Suriwong hotel. I already described it in thread devoted to it , new place , quite big room with furniture more utilitarian than fancy at perfect location exactly across Patpong 1. Not necessarily my first choice in the area , I like Raya better but all boils down to a price. For lunch I suggested Madrid and HC surprised me after asking how far it is by suggesting we can walk. Certainly he is non standard boy, punctual, likes to walk and to pay for his small purchases like drinks at 7/11. But when returning he suggested tuk-tuk anyways, if was too far after all it seems. Afternoon we spent together in the room as I had other plans for evening so told him up front I will be absent then. At dark I went to Hotmale to talk to paulsf – we both are leaving after tomorrow and reader, had drink with P, one of their new guys I already offed before going to Laos then I went to Moonlight for the show. A , the muscle god came to say hallo and I used this opportunity to secure offing him tomorrow night. It was past midnight when I returned to the room to find HC sleeping deep still in his trousers. My gentle side disappeared somewhere and I undressed him right away, waking him up in the process but he did not complain being aware I don’t pay guys to sleep when I don't.9 points -

This statement is SO true. I was formerly one of those "too proud" to consider the idea of paying for an off. It was thanks to this forum in my early years here that I realized that I could maximize my sexual pleasure by paying for the experience - as I discovered that by being the consumer / buyer of said services - that I could construct the menu and program of what I wanted to do with my offs. This is SO much more harder when you are chasing free guys - to get your menus and program desires to match up. Once I discovered the joy of having what I want - almost always - I never turned back to being "too proud". And when I hear of proud non-paying guys bitch and complain that they are not getting what they want - I suggest that they get over the embarrassment of paying for it to almost immediately find what they are looking for, where they waste much less time and effort of the endless hunting for unsatisfactory sex.6 points -

Wow same symptom for me last November. I was lucky enough the boy I just offed long stay insisted to come back to take care of me. Lovely and caring. All night he took care of me like a nurse with a wet towel on my head to cool down the fever... pills to stop coughing ....no need to go to hospital. After 2 days back to normal. I then decided to off him long stay 1 full week....6 points -

I take an Airbnb apartment and stay exclusively in Bangkok for 30-day minimum. Have been coming to Thailand for 20 years and have done my share of traveling throughout the region. I've come to know bkk and chose to spend all of my time there (I acknowledge I'm in the minority). As for the number of gay international tourists, your estimate is better than mine. As for the number of gay local residents, I wouldn't hazards a guess. My experience is that many men--from throughout East Asia--who'd never identify as "gay" will on occasion engage in sex with men. That's one of the reasons I keep returning. From the owners' business standpoint, drinks represent their main income source. Off fees are a distant second. For the performers, it's just the opposite, as you suggest. How a customer decides whether to off a guy varies. Personally, I make that that decision early on based on one simple criteria (does he smile specifically at me more than once) and one slightly complex factor (a combination of curb appeal and sexiness that translates into the promise of a satisfying experience). Since I've been doing this for many years, I've tweaked the methodology to an automatic response that's more instinctive than objective.5 points -

i had a short affair with an older guy who worked part time on reception in a bkk hotel where I stayed 12 years ago towards the end of my trip. He liked chatting to me, explaining that he needed to improve his English to get a better hotel job. Once when he was off duty I invited him to have a drink with me in the hotel bar, during which we talked about his life in Thailand mentioning that he used to be married but was now gay. He asked me about my life, work, and interests during which I told him I was also gay, which he said he suspected because he had not seen me with lady. A few drinks later he accepted my invitation to go to my room for sex and to sleep with me. He had a good body and we had a great time - not just that night but for the rest of my trip. But what made those days enjoyable more was the breadth of our wide ranging conversations. One day we went on the tourist train to Samut Songcran where he had worked before and could explain to me the Thai fishing industry. A totally better experience than I had had with young money boys. I did give him significant money and a leaving present of course. He did admit that I was not the first farang with whom he had such an experience.5 points -
From Vientiane Times VIENTIANE ( Vientiane Times/ANN) — A Russian airline is eyeing Laos as a new potential regional hub — thanks to ongoing international developments, according to a top company official."Given the current international environment, Laos is now a new potential hub for the airline," the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the RUSASIA, Mr Roman A. Virich, said in Vientiane. The top manager of the Russian company, which operates Ural Airlines, spoke in an exclusive interview with Vientiane Times on December 19. He discussed his airline's business strategy and performance of the first Vladivostok- Vientiane flight. Mr Virich said that the Lao government's policy to transform this landlocked nation into a land-linked nation and the limitation of flights from Russia to Asean has provided a great opportunity for the company to launch the Russia-Lao connection. Ural Airlines launched the Vladivostok- Vientiane flight in October, becoming the first civilian flight between the two countries.Lao and Russian policymakers believe that the establishment of an air connection between the two countries would promote tourist exchanges and economic cooperation between the two nations. It takes six hours for the 168-seat airbus to connect the Laos and Russian cities. "Apart from promoting the Laos- Russia tourist exchange, we expect to fly international passengers who want to travel from the Asean countries to Russia and vice versa," he said, adding that passengers from Vietnam, Thailand, and other countries who are suffering due to the limitation of fights to Russia can now catch a flight from Vientiane. When asked about the performance of the Vladivostok- Vientiane flight, Mr Virich said that the company is satisfied with the growing list of passengers, adding that the company is planning to increase one more flight in the near future. "There will be two flights between Vladivostok and Vientiane in a week in the near future to meet the growing demand of passengers," Mr Virich said, the Vladivostok- Vientiane flight, Mr Virich said that the company is satisfied with the growing list of passengers, adding that the company is planning to increase one more flight in the near future."There will be two flights between Vladivostok and Vientiane in a week in the near future to meet the growing demand of passengers," Mr Virich said, adding that the airline believes that the additional flight would make a significant contribution towards the Laos- Russia economic cooperation and tourist exchange.3 points

Russian Airline Eyes Laos as New Regional Air Hub
floridarob and 2 others reacted to macaroni21 for a topic
Very strange choice of a hub airport. Seems to me that there are other non-aviation considerations involved. An effective hub airport is one with good connections regionally. Vientiane is not that. It's also hard to see Vladivostok (population 600,000) as a place with enough outbound tourists to make anything of a hub out of Vientiane.3 points -

Day 4 That’s my last day, time for charity so after morning gymnastics and breakfast at Unesco I told my companion that today I won’t have much time for him so he needs to fend for himself or he can return to Pattaya tipped for both yesterday and today. He liked second option so after bit more fun together he packed and left smiling. When crossing Suriwong he actually turned back to see if I’m in window and waved at me before I lost his sight. It was a little bit of adventure with him but at end of day we parted ways happy and I’m glad that both my friend 18past19 and me were able to help him in what it seemed like his hour of need. Hope he will do well and I can see him in future. I had more rewarding offs but no boy ever stroke me with his good looks like he did when I saw him first time few years ago. Now I feel we are even. At noon ChristianPFC dropped by, we went to Foodland for a lunch and then upon learning he is going to Mor Chit bus station to buy ticket for his incoming trip I decided to go with him since , hard to believe , I never been there. For more fun we took bus 77 from Silom and it took about 40 minutes to get there. Bus station impressed me with size, simply saying it’s just cavernous. We returned the same way . In meantime I arranged with former model X to see me this afternoon and indeed upon saying good bye to Christian and arriving in hotel, he was already waiting for me in the lobby. Good 3 hours of fun , he never disappoints and I like way he is reading me i.e. what I like and when. If you add hunky, muscular body I can say there’s only one other guy who is perfectly blending being muscle god with perfect service and he will be my guest tonight. Since I was planning dinner with anddy at G’Bangkok I invited X to tag along securing earlier both gentleman’s approval which was easy since we had dinners together before. Great evening and great food. Later on X left us, anddy and I went to Hot Male beer bar to have last / for me / chat with paulsf and reader as well as their boys. Tomorrow morning I’m out. At 10 waved good bye to everybody and went to Moonlight for the show. A was absent but mamasan was aware about our agreement last night and greeted me with news ‘ I will call him over “. In meantime I invited Sam , guy I offed LT from New Twilight in May and who joined me and other member for trip to Grand Palace next day to have a drink with me. He was disappointed when I told him I’m busy tonight and leave for good tomorrow. Who would not be , seeing ATM shaped as KFC man departing ? I tipped new guy on the stage who shortly came to say thank you , we had a chat as well, turned out he is Pinoy, first Filippino guy I met in Thai bar as stage boy. Very talkative so hope he will be there next time I'm. When A showed up suggested some dinner at Unesco which he named Foodland so off we went , I just had crème Brulé still being full after G’Bangkok. We had fun till 3 am including our customary show of force which I always loose, no chance with such muscled guy but always surprise him that is not that easy to fight old guy. He was gone , I quickly packed little I had and started trek home. Friendly receptionist offered he will stop taxi for me and indeed one just showed up visibly being parked in hotel’s parking. It was not long trip as driver suggested 500 fare , when I pointed at meter he said “no’ countered with mine “ stop” , right in front of Raya. 90 second later another taxi showed up , this time no problem. In airport it was smooth and soon I was in the air, leaving Thailand for 25th time ending month long trip taking 3 countries and including 3 visits in Thailand. It was good idea to spent relatively busy and certainly sleepless good part of night with A as I felt bit tired and actually had some sleep on the plane, rare feast for me. It was also first time ever I flew JAL and must say their excellent reputation is fully deserved. Summary of the trip will come tomorrow3 points -
When the China tourists return in force, and we witness their effect on the bars, we'll be able to draw some demonstrable conclusions. But as Vinapu observes above, the rest is just speculation as to what formula works for the greater number of customers. Meanwhile, we have no choice but to accept that the Bangkok and Pattaya of 20 years ago are not coming back. We are free, of course, to vote with our feet in the belief it will teach the owners a lesson, but I don't believe they're conditioned to heed our complaints. Nevertheless if that's the course we wish to go, we also deny ourselves what we came to Thailand for in the first place. I'm simply grateful that the remaining bars are still open at all. Bitching about what once was doesn't seem like a productive use of my time.3 points

I was fascinated by their childhood experiences in Isaan and so on. About the arrival of electricity to their homes, twenty or so years ago and its impact. And where applicable, their experiences when they did their "monk duty". I wanted to learn about their reactions to their arrival in Pattaya and (if they were forthcoming- not all were!) about their feelings when they were first offed. And of course, about their lives in Pattaya, where they lived, how they lived....so much! Some guys weren't communicative of course and many lacked the necessary English but those who could express themselves taught me a lot.3 points -

I find that being able to have a conversation with a guy is an opportunity not to be wasted. Not only does it break the ice, it gives him a chance to relate to me in a non-sexual way that I very much crave. I want to know something about his life away from the bar or the shop. I want make a connection beyond the obvious.3 points -

nothing awkward , in every bar and on every day there's always that first customer. He may be alone for 2 minutes or 13 and it's nothing awkward in that as it happens every day Reader above is very right, early bird catches the worm although there's element of risk with early start - guy may be keen on speeding up encounter in order to return to bar for 2nd chance so make sure to be firm with timeframe if you care.2 points

Freshboys, Dreamboys Hot Male- Not many customers?
splinter1949 and one other reacted to macaroni21 for a topic
@10tazione I am glad you're taking up the challenge to think through these issues. Indeed my numbers are basically back-of-the-envelope estimates, so they are certainly open to debate. On the two questions you had: 1. I believe you're saying my estimate that tourists spend about half their days in Bangkok and half outside Bangkok, is too generous to Bangkok. I tried looking for data as to room nights in Bangkok versus room nights outside Bangkok but couldn't find them. In any case, I wasn't sure they'd be any good even if I did find them, because room nights data would almost surely include domestic tourists, rendering the numbers pretty useless when we're talking about foreign tourists. However, it is useful to imagine how a typical tourist who spends typically nine days in Thailand would divide his time. It's quite easy to imagine him spending a few days outside Bangkok e.g. Chiangmai or Pattaya in the middle of his holiday, but spends the first few nights and the last few nights in Bangkok, for convenience vis-a-vis Suvarnabhumi airport. I accept that there are tourists who fly directly to Chiangmai or Phuket and spend their whole vacation in the respective regions, but the Chiangmai numbers are small, the the Phuket numbers strongly seasonal. Counterbalancing that, there are plenty of business visitors who spend all their days in Bangkok and never leave the city. On balance I came to the estimate that about half the room nights of foreign visitors are probably spent in Bangkok. If you're a white farang, you need to resist the tendency to imagine the "typical tourist" as someone like you. The simple fact is that the majority of tourists coming to Thailand are Asian. They make relatively short trips of a week or slightly more and their interests centre around food, entertainment and shopping. 2. I believe you're saying that the rough figure of 20% of gay male tourists in Bangkok who are open to buying sex is too high an estimate. What do you think the percentage is likely to be? Note: I say "open to buying sex", not "actually buying sex." In fact, I emphasised in my blogpost that many of them are still not buying (my casual observation). Thus the point in my post - that the bars are not maximising their potential. There is discussion above about gay visitors in the closet, or too proud to buy. I have allowed for this - they're among the 80 percent who I reckon are not open to buying sex. Is 80 percent still too little? Do we think that maybe 90 or 95% are not at all open to the possibility of buying sex? You raised a good point about whether even if one were open to buying sex, would one be open to buying every day that one is in Bangkok? Some will be, some will not. I used to be somewhat like Vinapu twenty years ago when Thailand and Bangkok were new, bright, alluring and addictive. My daily rhythm was massage in the daytime (with sex), then off a bar boy in the evening, so twice a day. I was super-horny. In building my estimates, I assumed that the super-horny and the not-so-horny will probably balance each other out to average about 0.5 to 1 sex session per gay male tourist (who is open to buying) per day. So, if there is a potential market of 660 gay men in Bangkok open to buying sex, but they only buy 0.5 times a day there should still be 330 sex purchases a day (apps, massages and gogo bars combined). My observation is that the actual number of sex purchases by tourists is significantly lower than that. Thus the point of my post: In the sex business, there is quite a bit of upside potential among the tourists who are already in Thailand, but the potential is not properly exploited by the businesses. The question is: what's putting these tourists off?2 points -
It is funny coincidence that your last night included A and the pinoy boy as I enjoyed their company last night. Of course we remembered Vinapu as I had previously met A at the top of the big tower with you. Perhaps knowing you are honorary patron of Thai happy bar restaurant A marched us there and ordered most of the seafood menu before I’d barely sat down! Then the host Joy declared her undying love for V by ordering a Singha on my tab and saying ‘on you’. Haha. All in great spirits. A is actually very kind guy as he had taken the young non Thai speaking Pinoy under his wing. I do recommend people visiting Moonlight to look for the Filipino. His English is excellent and he has super energy and personality. I thought Moonlight show very samey and not enough spice. For a long time my fav bar but losing allure. Although to counter that I found two great guys in the line up.2 points
-
I suspect sometimes the customer knows that the guy will be a dud in bed and just wants to enjoy the good looks and company for the night. Ordering a bottle makes sense as you can drink with the guys unlimited. The cost of the bottle can even be spread over 3 visits (but have to pay cost of mixer 450 baht)2 points
-
I agree. In my experience, guys are much more willing to discuss their personal background (family and other jobs) but I don't recall any having talked about customers other than commenting on where they come from. Most guys seem more interested in the guy they're with at the moment. And that's fine with me.2 points

I am truly sorry for the reasons why the Chines tourists can't come, but I have no objection to the fact that they can't come. Many of us who live in Pattaya dread the day the hordes of Chinese tour buses return. I, for one, am certain the city won't change a thing about how all that is handled, so sooner or later I am expecting the return of those buses causing major traffic, not to mention parking, problems. As for the bars, they need to pay attention to their actual customer base. I believe in Jomtien Complex and Sunee Plaza the vast majority of customers are American, British, and European. I doubt many in that set are looking for outrageously high priced drinks, high off fees, aggressive mama-sans, and horrendously loud music volume. If the bars want to succeed, they better consider what their customers are looking for - and it ain't boys wearing T-shirts and jeans . . .2 points

I'm sad to report that the Wildlife Development Center reports that the baby elephant being treated for injuries and kidney failure has died. Many readers were moved by the account of efforts to save the animal which had been found abandoned and airlifted to the center for treatment. The around the clock care staff and volunteers provided assured the calf that it was not alone as it struggled for life. To me, that is in keeping with the true message of the holidays. As we all get older, I think we pray that we're not alone and abandoned when our time is accomplished.2 points

After two days of celibacy, it was back to whoring. In the late morning, I got a Grnder hit. A Myanmar guy approached me. After I saw his pics, I said yes. He came in half an hour. Gay. Mid 20s. Waiter. It was his off day and he does this to supplement his income. Speaks very good English. "How did your English get so good?" "Youtube and books!" he replied. Both of us were very happy with each other. After he left, he sent me a message on Line, "You want to meet my friend? He is muscle tone. You will like him." I asked Myanmar Grnder waiter to send me his friend's Line id and I contacted him. Surprise surprise his friend was not from Myanmar. He was Thai! Also mid 20s. Gay. I scrutinised his Line profile. He was a yoga instructor before Covid. I found out later from him that he currently works at massage shop at Ari. Thai Grnder massage guy came to my hotel room in evening and I had a very happy session with him. He speaks very good English as well better than the average Thai standard. I teased him about Myanmar Grnder waiter who made the recommendation, "Is he your boyfriend?" "No, we are good friends. He help me find customer and make money." So sweet to see the guys looking out for each other. At night, I stopped by Hotmale Beer Bar 1st floor. Aung the waiter was back from short holiday. But I had promised Cambodian Jupiter twink to off him tonight for a 2nd time (after our first meeting the previous Saturday) so I told Aung I would talk to him tomorrow. At Jupiter, I still had half bottle of whisky. Cambodian Jupiter twink was delighted to see me. He was in white counterfeit Versace briefs and I told him to get changed but we would finish the bottle of whisky before leaving. At Jupiter, the guys change dress code every night - some nights it's white briefs, some nights red briefs and some nights black briefs. Can be briefs or trunks and most Jupiter guys wear briefs but these are not the skimpy ones but rather the normal swimming trunks kind. Unfortunately, the Jupiter guys come out on their catwalk so quickly that if you are not quick enough to pick them, you will miss the chance to get your guy. I think they go on catwalk 3 times every night. On weekends, they might do more catwalks. The catwalk is recorded on video by a mamasan and it is uploaded on its Facebook / Twitter / Tiktok pages. It was through the video uploads that I became so infatuated with Cambodian Jupiter twink and that prompted me to off him in the first place. When he got changed and sat with me, I asked him to invite some his Jupiter guys friends to sit with us and drink. He invited two Cambodian guys - one a real hunk with a fabulous smile and another guy who was there on his first day of work! After finishing the bottle of whisky, Cambodian Jupiter twink and I went back to hotel room. Unlike Saturday which was short-time, I did long-time with him tonight. Very happy day for me and a record because 3 guys in one day!2 points

Yeah in Brazil I do both according to my whims. I may have written about the St Moritz playbook in the past. Being clothed is discouraged. It’s not at all like Brazil. There is no stage entertainment. It is more like a traditional sauna (gay baths). And you get a very skimpy towel that you may as well just carry, so I wear a bathing suit, my own sliders, and at times a T-shirt. You might get away with more clothing in the small sofa/TV area or adjacent bar that has barstool seating, both in view of the change room, maybe as far as that level’s toilet at the back. Certainly not upstairs. The masseurs all hang out on that same entrance level where the 3 tiny private massage table stations are, and you won’t miss seeing and intersecting with any of them even if you plunk yourself down on a locker room padded bench the entire time. Drinks service at the small bar; no roving waiter. Admission paid upfront on arrival. Other house charges put on your locker key#, computerized. On “nude days” (Tues/Thurs/Sun) one pays more (typically COP12K extra) for the prerogative to wear more than birthday suit, so the implication is that some clothing is optional, again, as the towel dispensed won’t cover much anyway. I believe I usually obtained a second towel without a hassle. Oddly, the masseurs usually wear a towel or Speedos or panties on non-nude days, but a thong or some garment covering genitalia on nudism days, seemingly contradicting the rule. However, I have not seen the extra charge stated on social media lately, so I will likely ignore it upcoming. Like in Brazil, I tip the equipment/cleaning attendant. If you take a private massage+ you will have needed to leave your clothing in your locker because there is no surface area to speak of in the massage cubicles to put stuff down on. Just massage table and a few square feet for the masseur to move around. No mirror to catch hot reflections during sex. There is a small table and chairs by the locker room. I wouldn’t see sitting there clothed to be necessarily forbidden and you could still chat up providers. The desk attendant can view you there, so he would know you aren’t wandering the premises in your street clothes. There are also two comfy armchairs across from his station. I have sat there clothed with my phone and not been questioned about it. Anyhow, you’d need to check it out yourself.1 point -

Thai navy vessel with crew of 106 sinks in rough seas in Gulf of Thailand
Ruthrieston reacted to reader for a topic
From Thai PBS World Six more bodies found floating in Gulf of Thailand The team searching for crew, missing from the sunken HTMS Sukhothai, found six more bodies drifting at sea off the Bang Saphan district of Prachuap Khiri Khan today (Saturday), reducing those still unaccounted for to 16, according to the Royal Thai Navy. The remains were recovered by naval vessels and taken ashore for identification by forensic science officials, he said. Six bodies have, so far, been confirmed as members of the crew of the ill-fated HTMS Sukhothai and seven other bodies, including one which was discovered at sea yesterday evening, are in the process of being identified, which will take 3-4 days. RTN Spokesman Admiral Monthatphalin said that 76 crew members have been rescued, out of a ship’s compliment of 105. He said that divers from HTMS Kraburi have been sent to search for missing crew, who might be trapped inside the sunken ship, and to survey the vessel ahead of a salvage operation adding, however, that strong undersea currents are hampering dive operations.1 point -
Interesting calculations! I have 2 points where i struggle a bit. From "this means that on any given day there are 9 x 740 = 6,660 gay male tourists in Thailand" to "They are not all in Bangkok. Let’s say half of them are outside Bangkok, and half in the capital city. That means 3,330 gay male tourists in Bangkok on a typical day." Do people really spend 50% of their Th. holiday in BKK? Hard to believe for me, but maybe there is some data? The other point is "I shall be conservative and assume only 20% of gay male tourists are interested in buying sex. That still means there are about 660 gay male tourists in Bangkok on a typical day who are open to the possibility of buying sex." 20% really? Interested maybe, but doing it? Many too proud or too sticky to do it. And if they do, maybe they are not interested every day they are in Bkk but only once? What do others think?1 point

From Coconuts Bangkok A number of places are scaling down New Year’s celebrations due to the condition of a key royal. Several localities from Pattaya to Chiang Mai have said they would tone down celebrations or cancel them amid fears over the health of Princess Bajrakitiyabha, the eldest child of King Vajiralongkorn who suffered a major health emergency earlier this month. In the coastal enclave of Pattaya, the authorities yesterday announced that they would cancel New Year’s Eve fireworks but allow live music and flea markets to be held. he provincial authorities had already canceled Chonburi’s New Year’s Eve party and replaced it with a Buddhist alms-giving ceremony on New Year’s Day. It did not name the specific reason. Royal Park Rajapruek, a botanical garden in Chiang Mai, announced a day after the Princess collapsed in central Thailand that it would postpone its New Year’s events, dubbed The Night of Flora Fest, originally set for Dec. 23 to Jan. 2, until further notice. The palace has said that the princess lost consciousness during a military K-9 training exercise and is in a “stable” condition though she requires equipment to remain alive. Prime Minister Gen. Prayuth Chan-ocha has said there are no plans to cancel New Year’s festivities but encouraged people to pray for the princess’ health and recovery. The Court of Justice office on Monday circulated a letter instructing its offices to pray rather than party for a speedy recovery of Princess Bajrakitiyabha. The Ministry of Education on Thursday followed suit.1 point

I learnt very quickly when I became a Pattaya regular that older guys were more fun, that they were more likely to be able to converse in decent English and that their experience of sex made them better practitioners. And that they kept their looks.1 point

8th and final report on Pattaya: warning against Tee
Boy69 reacted to ChristianPFC for a topic
I have taken hundreds of boys from online, and dozens from the street, and never had a problem. Similar for a friend, numbers even higher, let's say 1000 boys without a problem. In best case the boy knocks on my door and this is the first time I meet him in real. There are disappointments (does not look as good as I thought), but the saving of time compared to meeting outside more than compensates. When I'm not sure the boy in picture is the one I'm going to meet, I ask for more pictures or even better video chat. That has saved me a lot of disappointment (i.e. wast of time and money), and could have saved even more disappointment if I had been more strict.1 point -
when I took the same 2 boys plus brother of one of them in May procedure was the same but no notes taking , two not involved pretended to sleep or at least not to pay any attention to goings in the bed. So I guess you had bit more fun with your trio1 point

Part 3 - Vientiane After 4 days it was time to take a train although I could easily spend 2-3 more days there. Interesting yet relaxing place. Ticket was arranged by travel agent in the hotel, she also charged me 50000 for a van to railway station so getting there was smooth affair. Luang has distinction of having it’s airport much closer to the city than railway station. Train trip is described there: https://www.gayguides.com/forums/topic/38209-a-ride-on-the-laos-china-railway/ In Vientiane I noticed public bus with sign “Central Bus Station “ so decided to take it instead of fancy vans. I knew that my hotel is walking distance from station but still tuk tuk driver offered mi ride for 50 000 , when I smiled knowingly showing him where hotel is he dropped it to 20000 , now we are talking, for that amount I can travel 2 blocks in style. At hotel we both laughed. I spent 2 day there, Vientiane is not big city and has that provincial feel but main avenue connecting presidential palace with Victory Gate quite impressive. There are several wats spread across the city , at least two of them are a must, oldest in the city Wat Si Saket with thousands of Buddha statues and Wat Phra Kaew , now converted to museum, original site of Emerald Buddha , now in Grand Palace in Bangkok. Close there is walled compound of French embassy and big sized Ukrainian flag on one of walls reminded me about nasty war there . Across the street I found Sacred Heart Catholic cathedral and friendly nun there told me it’s only Catholic church in whole country. Another landmark ancient stupa That Dam was close to my hotel and not far from there is still one more landmark Nam Phu fountain but at that time was in process of renovation and whole place around her was deserted. Central bus station looks half finished but has quite good information desk where staff speaks some English. Morning market with many stalls is just across the street. Stroll along Mekong is very pleasant with rural Thailand on other side. Nong Khai is several km downstream. For those who want to cross to Thailand by bridge to Nong Khai or want to visit Buddha Park there’s half hourly , well posted bus from Central Bus Station taking you to both. Of course I visited most venerated landmark in Vientiane, Golden Stupa That Luang , symbol of country featured on coat-of-arms and every banknote (there are no coins in Laos). It’s about 3 km from city center, I just walked there but took tuk-tuk-back. I had feeling that those 2 days were just enough to see everything, certainly is wort to stop there on a way to or from Luang Prabang , specially now with train whisking between two in just 2 hours. Airport is almost walking distance from the center , probably 6 km from my hotel but when time came to leave I took tuk -tuk for 200 baht from my hotel, this was only time in Laos when I was quoted price in 3 currencies : 100000 kip or 200 baht or 6 dollars. I opted for baht since I wisely run out of kip that morning. Airport is last place one can exchange kip back to dollar or baht, outside of Laos nobody will exchange it. Flight to Don Muang was short and smooth and upon landing I started third and final Thai part of this trip.1 point

completely agree with you about the alms giving having been turned into a tourist circus. The last time I attended it was really awful. Russian tourists shoving their cameras in the faces of the monks... I was quite lucky when I went to Pak Ou. My guide brought along a big pack of candles and set them up all around the cave. Having it lit up by candle light made for some very pretty photos. I've always been fascinated by those decorations on the top of Lao temples1 point

part 2 continued For last two days of my stay there was no night market all of the sudden, only food section was opened. It turned out that it was owing to dispute between vendors as to which place belong to whom , police got involved to settle issue but souvenirs seekers all of the sudden had very little choice. Day before I saw some carving I decided to buy to no avail as that vendor along with other did not present his goodies for sale. Walking along the river boat cruises along Mekong are offered , actually quite pleasant idea. Since price is per boat it’s better to join other tourists is there’s opportunity but those are not that expensive at 200 000 (12 $ ) so I splurged twice just to support local economy. Across the Mekong ( ferry 5000, circulates constantly ) there are few temples , rarely visited even if they are so close and rural walk from ferry landing , well marked , between them is pleasant. It’s about 2.5 km so hardly tiring , even in mid day. I was expecting to walk back from the last one but industrious guy with boat eyed me , waved screaming “ city 100 000” so I decided again to support locals although probably overpaid by 50000. Boatmen seeing such stupid and naïve guy took pity and actually awarded me 30 minute cruise along the river before delivering me to the city. Luang is hardly tiring place but I recommend that trip across the river just to relax and see what’s hidden there as you can see below.1 point

Part 2 Most of Luang’s many temples are free but few most impressive and most popular require ticket for 20000 -30000. Popular attraction in Luang is alms giving ceremony at sunrise but I did not partake not only for being lazy to wake up that early but also I don’t believe in converting religious ceremonies into tourist circus. I rather leave to to believers. bit different type of temple Pak Ou caves are in quite a distance upstream so I took a boat tour for that as well, pleasant trip of more than hour. We had luck of seeing shiny train crossing the Mekong. After caves we went to whisky village to taste local moonshine, then to elephant feeding center where before feeding elephant we feed ourselves with a very tasty lunch served there. Then it turned out most people are going to waterfall by the bus but few who did not purchase this option like me got invited to get out in the city . Not that they just dumped us, no , there was van which took us to our hotels free of charge.1 point

I was at Freshboys too last night! Big cock parade was nice. I was with group comprising 2 forum members, a Moonlight guy whom one member offed and a first-timer to Bangkok gay scene from UK whom I met at hotel. We entered Freshboys at midnight after we watched the show at Moonlight. My first-timer friend said, "Freshboys is better than Moonlight!".1 point
