Day 2 In the morning my friend and I went to world famous Foodland for breakfast and information exchange. It looks that we both were happy with our Jupiter guys last night. From National News Bureau of Thailand BANGKOK (NNT) - Bangkok authorities have announced the opening of pedestrian walkways beneath Bangkok’s Na Phra Lan Road, following discussions with Bangkok Governor Chadchart Sittipunt, his deputy Sanon Wangsrangboon and city clerk Khachit Chattawanit. Deputy Bangkok Governor Wisanu Subsompon said tunnel construction has been completed and all that remains is to test the electrical, drainage and ventilation systems, as well as the elevators and escalators. The first tunnel is 96 meters long and 6.6 meters underground at the intersection of the Na Phra Lan and Na Phra That roads, with entrances near the Temple of the Emerald Buddha and Sanam Luang. According to Wisanu, the tunnels adjacent to Na Phra That are 37 meters in length and have been fitted with two elevators, a staircase and two escalators near three different entrances. Wisanu said the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA) would engage in commercial development to generate additional funds in order to cover maintenance costs, specifically the 28 million baht monthly electricity bill. He added that the BMA’s panel has proposed soliciting bids from companies to assist with tunnel administration.

I never thought I will live long enough to second such statement but I do now. I visited Jupiter every trip but never with hope I will find somebody too off from there other than Oud and Mekhin both transplants from Tawan now gone from the scene. But post-covid I got lucky streak, in Dec my first off was from there, so-so but definitely not waste of money and also my last night was spent with their guy, offed because he smiled at me !!! When dropping things out of torn supermarket bags, folks always let me know. I do speak some PT and SP – it helps a great deal. However, I am in no way conversant in PT. I meet several new people each day even if in a line or over a drink. Folks are very friendly here. To allow anonymity, I will not mention names. I met someone who I believe has posted here. In BR it will cost you 8-15% - and for nothing – just a bank rip off. When I go to 117 or 201/202, I always try to have over 500 in cash on me in case I get too horny. I often see punters paying the house bill by cc or debit card. Yes, the drink prices are not inexpensive. I often buy a drink for me and the GP before or after a programma. In BR always let a business know if your card is debit or credito in advance. Tapping the card reader almost always works. Yes, there often a conversion fee from your bank or cc company. It could be as low as 1%. Experience has taught me the best cards to use abroad. Use lots of sunblock at the beach – better to be a bit un tanned than being burned !! Indonesia’s parliament last week passed the controversial bill that also prohibits cohabitation between unmarried couples. Seeking to reassure visitors, Bali Governor Wayan Koster in a statement on Sunday noted the new laws, which come into affect in three years, could only be prosecuted if there was complaint by a parent, spouse or child. Those who “visit or live in Bali would not need to worry with regard to the entry into force of the Indonesian Criminal Code”, he said. The governor said provisions in the criminal code on this issue had been altered from an earlier, stricter version so “would provide a better guarantee of everyone’s privacy and comfortableness.” Bali’s government would ensure “there will be no checking on marital status upon check-in at any tourism accommodation, such as hotels, villas, apartments, guest houses, lodges and spas,” Wayan said. Wayan also denied what he said were “hoax” reports of cancellations of flights and hotel room bookings, adding that data from travel agents, tour and accommodation operators, as well as airlines, showed the number of people set to visit Bali from December 2022 to March 2023 had increased. I agree with your assessment based on several weeks in both cities spanning Jan to July this year. My first trip on a 747 was Denpasar to Bangkok in 1988 on Garuda airlines, my last was Bangkok to Denpasar with Thai airways (I think around 2011 or 2012 and upper deck business class on that one) - my worst was Qantas Perth to Singapore, the service on that flight sucked and I have never flown Qantas international since then and never will again.

I am sure we all have many memories of that marvellous aircraft. My first 747 flight was on an Air France 747 from Paris to Kong Kong in March 1979. As the -100 and -200 series could not make the flights from Europe to Asia in one go, refuelling stops were necessary. British Airways had exclusive rights for London/Hong Kong with a daily flight that had one refuelling stop in Bahrain and then went on to Sydney after Hong Kong. My Air France flight stopped in Dubai, Bombay and Bangkok before an extra long final sector to Hong Kong. This was a result of Vietnam's airspace being closed as it had only weeks earlier fought a border war with China. That meant an extra hour to detour around the foot of Vietnam. But I loved every minute of that flight. Like @vinapu I was twice on 747s with virtually no passengers. Just before a flight from Hong Kong to Melbourne, I slipped a lower disc in my back. As I knew the secretary to the company chairman, I cheekily asked her if there might be any chance of an upgrade to first (business class had only recently been introduced and was not much better than economy seating on Cathay Pacific in those days). It so happened I was upgraded and it was the eve of Chinese New Year. No one was flying! There were 23 passengers in total! The other occasion was during the first Gulf War on a Northwest flight from Tokyo to Hong Kong. Once again there were few people travelling. As you left Immigration at Narita you could see into an Immigration office which had a large chalk board on the opposite wall with all the departing flights and the estimated passenger loads. i could not believe it when I saw that my NW flight had around 30 passengers. The worst flight was on Air China between Beijing and Hong Kong in 1985. There was only one flight between the cities in those days and it left at 7:30 am. So my colleague and I had to be up early to check in by 6:00. Reaching the departure island we saw our flight was a 747. But it had a problem as a two-hour delay was announced! This became 4 hours as we noticed men in overalls using a rickety set of stairs and rather large hammers and spanners to work on an engine. I soon decided I'd prefer not to take that plane, but there ws no choice. By 10:30 we were allowed to board. 30 minutes later we had to disembark again. Over the tanoy we learned that the flight had been cancelled. We were informed we would eventually be informed how we were going to get back to Hong Kong. As lunch time came and went, the small cafeteria was very quickly out of small eats. Around 2:00 pm ladies came round distributing small boxes of rice and chicken. Still no news of how we'd get to Hong Kong. I would have loved to go back into the city to relax in a hotel, but our visas had been cancelled on check in. At around 5:00 pm another Air China 747 arrived and disgorged its pasengers. We soon discovered this had come in from San Francisco with an intermediate stop in Shanghai. By 6:30 we were finally allowed to board that plane, taking off around 45 minutes later. Our relief soon turned to concern when chatting to one of the flight attendants. She told us the entire crew, including the pilots, were those who had arrived from San Francisco! By this time they must have been on duty for at least 20 hours. Ahead of them would be another 6 hours before the plane had returned to Beijing. We were delighted when that plane landed safely! Many passengers seemed to dislike Northwest for their Pacific flights. I was the opposite but then I was lucky to be in business class for my several dozen flights. I always loved their small 16-seat business class on the 747's upper deck. After dinner, the flight attendant would leave the drinks trolley parked at the front of the cabin. I always unashamedly would go up to it and tke a few small bottles to refresh me at my destination!

End of era indeed, like reader's my first arrival to Thailand was aboard 747 on Thai on long discontinued Los Angeles - Bangkok route with refueling stop in Kansai( Osaka). I also recall short 100 minutes flight aboard it from Sydney to Melbourne , last leg of London -Melbourne route if only because plane was almost empty with no more than 20 of us, economy passengers. Such idiotic waste I was explained , was owing to rules that Quantas was then ( 1991) allowed to pick up only international passengers on domestic routes in Australia.

I remember the first time I read about this new marvel as a young teen. I probably only flew on one a couple of times though. By the time I started taking intercontinental flights I think their heyday was over.

My friends and I often went to a public bath, even though we all had baths and showers at home. People go there to enjoy the social atmosphere. Many just go to look at naked guys, with the well-endowed ones walking around flaunting their wares. A public bath near a university is always a good bet. If you go to a public bath or a hot spring and want to go into the really hot pool, here's a little tip - slowly lower yourself into the water and then sit perfectly still. Don't move at all and very soon you will stop feeling the heat. The hot pool is especially good in winter because you come out pink and your body is thoroughly heated through. I returned from my Taipei trip last night. Frankly, to anyone worried about covid testing and quarantine - forget it. The whole trip was a breeze. I took China Airlines. We had to wear masks on the flight other than when eating the meal. No preflight checks at all. On arrival, every passenger was given a box of 4 self-test covid kits. You are supposed to test yourself in your hotel on arrival and then every two days. If your test is negative, you just throw the test kit away in the enclosed plastic bag. No need to report to anyone. You do get a note with your kit with the number fo call if you test positive. I never did and so just threw it away. Throughout the country, it is mandatory to wear masks other then when eating, drinking, attending a sauna or hot spring. I never saw anyone without a mask on public transport or in the malls or when walking on the streets. From the accents I heard, there were a lot of European tourists. I went to two hot springs, the gay one and one more upmarket one in a top hotel. Only saw one guy wear a mask there - and he looked pretty stupid. For anyone wanting to get to the hot spring frequented mosrly by gay guys, the name card for the taxi is posted above. Since there are about 10 hot springs close together and the taxi will drop you about 100 meters away, you can spot Huang Tzu with this sign at the entrance. Price remains NT$250 and you need two NT$10 cooins for the locker. The Red House was busy at the week-ends. One bar had a party with this enticing sign at the entrance - For my last Saturday, there was heavy rain and with most of the bars being outdoors albeit with canvas roofs there were not many customers around. If the weather is fine, the eye candy can be spectacular! Prices for the mid to lower end hotels seem to be slightly less than 3 years ago. I had no trouble bringing guests to the rooms I had in two different hotels, but then I did not have anyone stay overight. I cannot imagine it being a problem other than in the very top end establishments.

Also I wonder if the hotels allow guests to you room hotel room during that first week as in theory it should be only "one person/room". Please, let us know how it goes for you. So have you been to the Hi-Man sauna and if so what's your opinion of it?

I am going on Friday for 17 days. There is no longer any quarantine and very few restrictions. The only covid related issue seems to be a need to self test for the first 7 days. I don't even think these need to be reported uness you test positive. Some mask wearing also seems necessary. But I'll give a longer reply once I return near the end of the month. The weather is certainly colder. Not often rainy, but when the winter monsoon blows from the north you'll need sweaters and a jacket. On the other hand, there can also be very pleasant sunny days. Just be prepared for that cold, though. Great days for relaxing in a hot spring alongside so many cute Taiwanese guys! Best months are usually October and November, although October this year was particularly and unusually rainy.
