  1. There's such a huge oversupply of hotels in Thailand that it helps keep prices down. Bangkok has so many very nice hotels that are not all part of the big international chains.

  2. While US$8/night extra might not seem too taxing for a lot of tourists, there are two issues with this. Firstly, there is no guarantee that the monies collected will indeed go to the industry. Secondly, many tourists will say that taxes of this nature look, feel and actually are rather petty and mean, leaving some unpleasant aftertaste in their mouth. So, instead of helping the industry, the tax will actually achieve exactly the opposite.

  4. There's no sex. In fact, there's not even any sexual tension. No one hitting on anyone else. And now that I think about it, that's kind of surprising. These parties attract tons of Chinese who all seem to show up in big groups of friends. There is some mingling between groups and some sharing of deets over WeChat. The majority of this crowd seems to be in their early 20s. They all have tight, gym-trained bodies. They all lose their shirts before they hit the main hall, which is tightly packed. Most of them wear ... what are they called? Halters? Holsters? They're leather or neon plastic straps laced around the pecs and shoulders. I first noticed them becoming a gay fashion trend about eight years ago. This Chinese crowd also snorts a lot of cocaine, right out in the open. Kind of flagrantly. I figure their fathers are high-up party officials and they're used to getting away with stuff. I think that, like me, they feel a sense of euphoric freedom at these parties but that their sense of euphoria is much more intense than mine. And there's always a contingent of Japanese bears. They form big long lines, with one grabbing and hugging a friend from behind until there's like 15 or more fat, sweaty Japanese dudes all holding on to one another as if for dear life and swaying from side to side. These swaying mountains of flesh are actually kind of a nuisance as the bears are big enough to knock you off balance if they sway into you and the human chains they form are long and impossible to get around. I'm convinced the Japanese bears are all on Molly because they look really, really happy! There are also fair-sized contingents from Thailand, of course, as well as from Singapore and other Asian countries. These groups also have tight, gym-trained bodies and are also shirtless but wearing those halter things. Finally there is a smattering of Westerners with their boyfriends or small groups of friends. Some of us take our shirts off and you can tell that maybe at one time many, many years ago we had tight, gym-trained bodies. Or maybe we never did and want to take off our shirts anyway. We're drunk and it feels good! There's just one huge floor with risers on either side set aside for guys who buy much more expensive "VIP" tickets. These guys all have great bodies and seem to buy the VIP tickets specifically to stand on those risers and show off their chiseled physiques. I know what you're thinking, and, yes, I do a lot of staring and drooling at these events -- and promising myself to get back into a serious gym routine. A lot of the DJs seem to play a similar genre of EDM. Some of the DJs really get the crowd moving, and their ability to do so is probably the best reason to go to these events. It's just fantastic to lose yourself in the music, in the euphoria, and become one with 10,000 other gay men. I love it! And there are no breaks. The music never stops. Elaborate, theatrical shows take place but they seem to start spontaneously. The DJ sets don't seem to be interrupted, they just segue from one to the other. There are also lines of muscle-bound go-go boys from all over Asia who occasionally parade along the stage, the center of which juts out into the crowd. But if you got bored at an SK party after one hour, I'm sure you won't like the White Party. It's basically the exact same thing, just maybe not as big or crowded. Now that I'm typing this I'm wondering what this year's party will be like with all the fine bodies from China confined to their home country? And that reminds me: My usual New Year's hotel, Sathorn Vista, is always packed with fine young gay Chinese guys, some of whom rent out the entire top floor and hold huge orgies every night. They're so huge the organizers have to station their own English-speaking doormen outside the hotel to manage the long line of horny youngsters waiting to get in. There are also very polite Chinese doormen stationed in the elevator lobby. I've never been invited up to one of these orgies, but I get a feeling I know exactly what's going on up there. Also, Sathorn Vista is an excellent place to stay if you go to Bangkok for the gay nightlife. Check it out! Hmm, apparently there is no word limit on this forum.

  6. Meanwhile, over in Jomtien last night - there were plenty of those illegal flying lanterns illuminating the entire sky (I am happy to report that none of them set our condo building on fire or the nearby beautiful palm trees at the Dongtan gay beach). There were also many fireworks going off and thousands upon thousands of Loy Krathong floaties that were launched into the sea. This was my first Loy Krathong as a new retiree living here - so I was one of those thousands, with my two Thai friends, who helped me to launch my Loy Krathong into the sea -->> BUT - we had to first follow the correct Thai ritual of: 1.) cut a piece of your hair and place it into the Loy Krathong flower piece made of banana, 2.) insert some loose coins into your Loy Krathong, 3.) light the candle that is in the center of the flowers, 4.) light the incense sticks that are also in the center of the flowers, 5.) say a prayer before launching your Loy Krathong into the water (expressing what you are happy to be relieved of - negative things - and what positive things you want to come into your life). Then you are ready to go. I was not dressed properly, so I had to take my shoes and socks off, and because of the shorts that I was wearing, I could not get out far enough into the water to properly launch my Loy Kratong for enough distance that it would not be washed back ashore (bad luck). There were some kids out in the water and after we launched our 3 Loy Krathongs (see below photo), they approached ours and pushed them further out to sea - and I was SO happy about that - but there was a hidden service charge - they quickly removed all of the loose coins that we had placed in our respective Loy Kratong's (see step 2 above). I became upset, but my 2 Thai friends said to me, "stay calm - these kids are very poor and they deserve what they took and you should know that it does not invalidate the above 5 steps - so our good wishes will still come to us." I am a new retiree here - so I need to learn so much about the Thai Buddhist ways - sabai sabai.... But, for my year 2023 Loy Krathong - I will be much better prepared.

  9. zoombie and zoomomancs, I did visit Toy Boys tonight, Nov. 9, at 9 pm to check it out. Many good looking boys on stage, and something for everyone except for very slim lads. Gave a 100 Baht tip each to two boys and received a very nice thank you from both! Prices were very reasonable, but then, I was with with a regular customer . For me the best go go bar in the Boyztown area.

  10. Never been into these parties, not even concerts. Large crowds are annoying....to me. I have friends that work for the airlines that post their pics at these parties.....I get nauseous just looking at them and there isn't one person that seems like I'd want to hang out with there. I'll take low season anytime....I generally travel on shoulder dates that are before a high season or right after, never during school holidays, lol

I really appreciate all the helpful replies to my thread and from the above info I will now make some notes as to places to go.Any further replies here are of course still welcomed! After returning to BKK and after recovery I will supply a "no holes barred" report-no pun intended. (we are all boozers -and the driver who will be prohibited from drink apart from non alcoholic) There will be 3/4 of us and for the first 3 members or others who read this forum and who recognises us and says to us: "welcome odd couples" I undertake to buy you a glass of your favourite tipple! 🥳 PS the exchange re fat taxi drivers above is hilarious...bit like those in Dreamboy in Patpong: most there look like construction site workers!

  16. Train is there but getting tickets is a bit of chore as nonsense abounds There, s ticket office in Luang Prabang on main drag about 500 m past night Market across the street from Vietnamese consulate but thay take payments by Union Pay and some other Chinese pay system, no credit cards, no cash accepted. Original of passport requred to purchase. Ticket for cash can be bought at the station but only ( in computer era!!!) with 2 days advance I. E. or Thursday no earlier than Tuesday. Station is several kilometers from the city. Travel agents will facilitate that for a fee of course but they need to line up there the same like masses. So whole thing looks like another exercise in population movement restrictions, great communist invention. But still benefit of getting to Van vieng or Vientiane in relatively speaking no time in comparison with buses is great ang judging by number of affluent Laotians crowding temples and restaurants in Luang Prabang they are taking an advantage of it.

    The legendary Madrid

While posting about the Jim Thompson film in Beer Bar forum, I got to thinking about the Madrid restaurant in Patpong. Although he met his demise two years before it opened in 1969, Thompson would have felt right at home considering the clientele who frequented the place in its early days. The Madrid also makes occasional appearances in the trip reports, particularly those of vinapu. And as for price, what more testimony do you need than that of Christian who finds it a good value. Here's some takes of how it's been remembered over time. Bangkok Post (August, 2013) The ornate black door with the coats of arms and shields looks heavier than it is, and opens up from the gaudy seediness of Patpong Soi 1 into a world where time moves differently _ although not necessarily slower. The Madrid bar and restaurant has evolved since it opened in 1969, then catering mostly to US soldiers fighting in Vietnam and later gaining a reputation for hosting pilots from the CIA's Air America and even as a place where covert operations were planned. A woman who asked to be identified only as Jenny now runs Madrid; she took over the business from her Thai mother, who helped get the bar up and running with Jenny's American stepfather. The clientele was about 95% American in the old days, including many CIA and DEA agents and US embassy workers. The most famous regulars were the Air America pilots who conducted clandestine operations against communists in Laos in the 1960s and 1970s. Most have now gone: Many have died, others have stopped drinking out of health concerns, and some have moved upcountry because they find Bangkok too expensive these days. Pilots are still popular at Madrid, but these days they are the commercial rather than conspiratorial kind. This is helped somewhat by the fact Jenny's husband, Andre, flies for Vietnam Airlines. Screenwriter Dave Walker, who calls his recent project The Poorest Man ''a Khmer Rouge story with a happy ending'', has been coming to the Madrid regularly since 1981. Of all the changes there, he says it's the people he misses the most. ''I miss the characters,'' he says. ''It was living history. The conversations here, you couldn't imagine. These guys really lived life.'' Stickman (May, 2013) One of the great dames of Patpong, Madrid opened in 1969 and has been popular with generations of expats. Hundreds of bottles of alcohol are stacked behind the bar, yet the single-shophouse Madrid with small booths along one wall is more restaurant than bar. In a city with unlimited dining options, Madrid still compares well. Madrid opens early and the eggs Benedict is a favourite. There's a daily special but Madrid is perhaps best known amongst expats for its pizzas, amazing given that pizza is the one item of farang food that polarises expats. Who doesn't think the best pizza comes from their hometown? The area above the bar is said to have been a CIA safehouse in the '70s, a place where clandestine meetings were held and planning for many missions over Laos carried out. Easy to walk past, Madrid is located on the main Patpong soi, about 50 metres or so along on the left-had side if you enter from the Silom Road end. The Guardian (March, 2017) There’s only one Vietnam veteran’s bar left in Patpong, the notorious red-light district. When Khun Daeng and her American GI husband opened the Madrid Bar and Restaurant in 1969, the first thing they did was swap the grand piano for a record player. Soon after, it became a hangout for CIA types. Men like Jack Shirley, a legendary former CIA official, drank here. The current owner, Jenny, Khun Daeng’s daughter, has not altered the decor since the Madrid’s hey-day, and it still serves the unappetising-looking but much-loved army dish known as SOS. This either means “shit on a shingle”* or “save our stomachs”, depending on who you ask. It is a mush of chipped beef, mixed with milk and gravy, slapped on toast. * I can attest that it was the former, from basic training to discharge. reader Teak Door blog (November, 2008) The Madrid was an old CIA hangout during the Air America days. At that time, you most likely would run into Jack Shirley or Tony Poe downing a few beers in the Madrid. Tony Poe is who the Colonel Kurtz character from Apocalypse Now is based on. The photo below is an old one from the Lucy's Tiger Den. The walls at the Madrid are plastered with photos of customers new and old. Jack Shirley is on the right and Tony Poe is sitting with him to his left.

  19. Do you work for Toy Boy? It seems they can do no wrong! They have printed menus for drinks prices, off-fees and minimum tips. They have an English version, and a Chinese version! There isn't a Thai version though, which I may have understood better than the badly spelt English one, if they made one. One of my group didn't even pay for his drink, he has been going there for so many years and spending big. The mamasan was very upset that his staff had delivered a fake Jack Daniels to our table. He was berating the waiter. But that's not the point, it still happened. Drinks are 280 baht. Reasonable for some, no problem. For fake alcohol, which can be very dangerous to ingest, it's an insult in my book. Please can you provide your definition of 'many' ? Pre-Covid drinks were 180baht, and there was 40+ boys. So many they couldn't even fit on the stage, and that was the case even in low season. Last week, there were 2 cute boys (one I know already, he was working in JQK Bar in Jomtien Complex till last week). He doesn't like farang and prefers Asian customers, which is totally up to him. There was another boy who was cute 6 years ago when he worked at Cupidol, and was 25. Now in his 30s, he needs to stick to his moto taxi job. I really need to get myself up to Dream Boy and see what the fuss is about. I keep hearing great things.

  20. Nothing special to note during those months. As a general trend, Latin America travel is projected to grow 14% in 2023, and Colombia travel by 18% next year. That's a lot of new faces discovering the capital. Anecdotally the presence of foreigners in Medellín, particularly digital nomads, has increased significantly in 2022 and that trend shows no sign of slowing. Oh, i almost forget. With the reopening of travel post-pandemic, there is a string of big-name rock acts performing stadium shows in Bogotá in February and March. The rolos love their rock music.

I agree. I think that’s why the moderator places the palm of hand (palm out) next to new posters to give us a moment of pause. There have been many new posters who announce themselves with multiple questions (answers that could be obtained with minimal site research) but that’s often the last you hear from them. Few of these result in trip reports or feedback.

  24. No need to, at end of day that, s decision of bar owners. We have something to say- go in or not. In ideal world we would chave choice, in real world we can make best of what us available. Yes, screaming Asian girls are annoying there and so is loud music, excessive air conditioning, pestering Mamasans etc there and in all other bars. But attractive boys are still there, even if fully dressed. Waving flag " I don, t go to go go bars anymore" is probably preaching to already converted crowd"

  28. I have several gripes with OnlyFans. First of all, it is very difficult if not impossible to search for the type of performers I want to watch. You pretty much have to know the performer's handle to find him. Generic searches for terms like "Thai twink" are exercises in frustration. I once saw on Twitter an OnlyFans clip of Max and Yos, two Youtubers I hadn't realized were also on OnlyFans, then went to OnlyFans to subscribe but couldn't find them. I tried all kind of combinations like "Max & Yos," "Max&Yos" and "Max and Yos." I had to go back to Twitter, do a search for Max and Yos, then look for the watermark that shows their handle in the ripped videos Chinese accounts were posting. Unfortunately, most of these Chinese accounts obscure the watermark, but I eventually found one. I believe the handle was MaxandYos. By the way, I'm certain many people on this board will love Max and Yos videos. Max is a big French Canadian with the most humungous cock I've ever seen. Yos, from Indonesia, is one of the most beautiful twinks I have ever seen, and he's a sexual dynamo. Their videos are some of the greatest gay porn ever made. Well worth the price of a subscription. Back to my rant. When I am able to find an attractive OnlyFans performer via Twitter or some other platform, there is no preview function on OnlyFans that allows me to see what kind of videos the performer posts. Does he only post jack-off videos? I once found a really attractive Cambodian model and subscribed only to find solo videos or videos where his girlfriend wanks him. What a waste of money. Another time on Twitter I came across a young Thai couple that posted a video of themselves jacking each other off on a public bus. Extremely hot! I subscribed only to find a bunch of videos that were cropped so tightly you could only see the genital area and the partner's hand. Another big waste of money. I like watching facial expressions and abs contracting when watching porn. I also really love watching the body language of bottoms when they're getting fucked so well that they slip into a state of ecstasy. Sometimes I like watching kinky stuff like songing but I'm not interested at all in a pair of hairy balls slapping against a pimply ass. With too many OnlyFans accounts, however, all I get is hairy balls when what I really want to see is a hot, tight Asian body being fucked into euphoria. And that's another problem with OnlyFans: A lot of people posting on the site are not professional porn actors and don't want to be associated with their OnlyFans accounts. As a result they do not show their faces and in many cases don't even show their bodies. A similar gripe is that many OnlyFans actors film themselves simply by putting their phones on a tripod. This results in one static angle not at all conducive to fully showing the action on the bed. If I knew any of these actors I would offer my videography skills for free. Finally, OnlyFans is super expensive. $10 a month for one account doesn't sound so bad, but you're getting no variety for that fee and pretty soon even Max and Yos get a bit stale. When your subscription lapses, you can't watch anything you feel like you've already paid for. For this reason I prefer sites like mensrush.tv, where you pay more up front for each video but maintain access to that video in perpetuity.

    The legendary Madrid

Madrid Tavern will not return to Patpong acorrding to the owner I talked to few days ago so legend is closed permanently and for good unless somebody else will take name and premises over. Restaurant relocated to new location in CHAROEN Krung soi 49 and is now named Madrid Cafe. Happy to report food, included famous pizzas remain as tasty as ever. Prices more it less also the same. New location has two levels and toilet has the shower so bring your towel, lol. It, s in the house formerly occupied by the owner. Soi 49 is roughly across the street from Assumption Roman Catholic cathedral compound on the stretch of CHAROEN Krung between Silom and Suriwong. Long but doable walk from Silom ghetto or take a BTS to Saphan Taksin and it, s perhaps 7 minute's walk from there. Once you find soi 49 just walk in, at the end there's sharp turn left and Madrid is in 3rd building facing elevated highway. Sounds complex but in reality is very easy to find, just go there Bon apetit !

  33. Have you been to Bali....?? I was there for 10 days...my 3rd time in Bali once in Jakarta. ...so much cheaper than Thailand. Same issue on apps, fake pics, so you have to screen them well. But some are so nice and it feels less commercial than Thailand. But the biggest thing I think you'd like, every guy I hooked up with, went right to rimming. I'm not into it, don't rim....but if someone wants to rim, I'll let them, for a bit. Plus there's cut (Muslims) and uncut (Balinese) guys there ....I like someone to drink with, so that's a bit of a challenge, lol

    Anyone planning Xmas?

So I´ll have my special Xmas dinner (if it will be special at all), mandatory served (but not to eat as such) in the airplane, perhaps even twice, as flying back was considerably cheaper those days as on exactly from day 45 after entry. Having enjoyed this Xmas in Thailand quite a few times: its jingle bells and Rudolph everywhere, but as such 25/12 is for many Thai a normal working day, shops open etc.

Yes, its pretty close to CandleT/Sabaidee and Soi NgamDuplee, ith S-Sense and a side soi now closed Babylon, where der Christian also has his room. The closed off-area is more North_West of it-along Ratchdamri north of the park, where many Embassies are located. THis is BKK so expect giant traffic jams in the areas just outside as they now have to swallow double-triple traffic volumes. AND leave your drone away!

  45. Made my second visit to this park today. My first was on previous trip about five months ago and I was surprised by how much new growth has occurred since. Originally tobacco fields, the property covers a sprawling mash that not only serves as a huge water retention reserve but as home to many bird species you don’t see in nearby Lumpini Park. We entered about 4p.m. Under partly cloudy skies and a steady breeze. Although there were more visitors than last time, the area is so vast you never feel crowded. Some parts are landscaped but the emphasis is decidedly on a natural setting easily accessible to the general public without admission fees. A large amphitheater has been created to blend in with the park’s sense of wildness. It’s truly an oasis in the heart of the city. Benjakitti Wetland Park is Easily reached by MRT’s Klongtoey station, just two stops from Silom. Take Exit 2.
