Have you been to Bali....?? I was there for 10 days...my 3rd time in Bali once in Jakarta. ...so much cheaper than Thailand. Same issue on apps, fake pics, so you have to screen them well. I hope you realise that paticular journey is crashingly boring! A very good friend who adores trains and train journeys did it. Said it was a total waste of time and money. I've travelled around Europe by train and enjoyed amost all the trips. I've also treated myself to two non-European extravagant train trips. First was the two day Rocky Mountaineer from Vancouver across the Rockies to Banff. The Gold Leaf service with Panorama cars up top and dining underneath was magnificent. Meals were delicious and beautifully served. Passengers don't stay overnight on board. Instead we were put up in a hotel in Kamloops. Sometimes you never believe your luck. I put on an app the fact that I'd be in Kamloops for one night. Extraordinary! One young Chinese gay guy who lived there saw it and came over for dinner and afters. On my visit to Peru three years later I treated myself on the journey from Cusco to Machu Picchu by taking the Hiram Bingham train. This is more or less the equivalent of the Orient Express or the one that plies between Singapore and Bangkok - although much shorter. Fantastic experience! It leaves later than the other trains. Mimosas served before embarkation. Full a la carte breakfast in the dining car. Snacks in the open car at the back. Also last train to leave in the late afternoon, preceded by a proper afternoon tea at the hotel by the entrance to the site. Four course a la carte dinner with wines and then a jazz band playing in the back car. Extravagant? Sure - but one of the little luxuries that help make life exciting! I found Cusco one of the most fascinating cities I have visited. I'm sure most of us know the city's flag is the rainbow flag. The sense of history is stunning. Now I wish I'd spent more than 3 nights there. Were I to return, I'd love to explore more of the other valleys near Cusco.

Just hope to pick up old routine as pre 2020: in the there cool season (which also happens to be the cold wintertime here in EUR): go twice, for some 6-8 weeks (perhaps with some intermittent short visit to nearby other ASEAN- so to avoid need to get visa), still struggling now to find acceptable airfare for jan. and then end of year again-then hope to be able to again witness Loy Kratong. And hopefully without even the slightest hints of that covid or masks or the like. This year/early spring went to ESpana for a few weeks but for me THailand does remain the best choice. Just stay in BKK and amuse myself-mostly out of the Silom ghetto.

Avani is luxurious big hotel with all the facilities of luxurious hotel including swimming pool and lovely spacious gardens and prime location at the centrum of Pattaya next to Royal Garden mall,East Suites is small boutique guesthouse with no facilities at all although you have a free access to Zing Hotel and Jomtien area is in general less expensive than Central Pattaya. I am not sure about guests policy at the Avani you have to check. East Suites is gay / guests friendly .

But premier Rishi Sunak and chancellor Jeremy Hunt have not exempted expats from a bitter pill to swallow, whilst the Treasury has emphasized that absolutely everyone rich and poor will be expected to chip in. Brits with a status of “non-ordinarily resident” already are penalized because in most countries of residence, including Thailand, their so-called old age state pensions are frozen unless they go back to the UK for several months to unfreeze them. Campaigns over the years to abolish the cash discrimination have got nowhere with officials usually hinting that restitution would cost the British tax payer around 2 billion pounds annually to an unpopular group: those who choose sunshine over patriotism. In 2014 the then chancellor George Osborne set up a review further to penalize expats by abolishing their right to a tax-free personal allowance which is now 12,570 pounds a year (2021-22 Inland Revenue figures) per individual. Osborne at the time said, “The personal tax allowance is essentially for people living in the UK using British public services and not to subsidize living abroad.” His policy was aborted when the government collapsed following the 2016 European Union referendum fiasco. If the tax allowance is now removed, each UK expat who fills in an annual tax return will be around 2,500 pounds a year actually worse off, assuming the basic rate of tax remains at 20 percent. In practice, they might well be additionally worse off as the abolition of the personal allowance would lower the threshold for them paying the higher rate of tax at 40 percent. Not to mention the whole issue of expats owning property in UK and renting it out to improve their overseas income. Forth Capital, a Scots-based finance house, has already predicted a move along these lines and suggested that some expats may have to return to UK and live in their property to safeguard their standard of living. Otherwise, their loss of annual income could reach 5,500 pounds. Other financial planners have made similar predictions if the worst comes to the worst. Of course, the argument to the contrary is that expats in most countries have already been penalized by the frozen state pension and the insistence of many UK banks that expats must close their mainland accounts and re-apply in the Isle of Man or the Channel Isles, crown dependencies which are not part of UK and where monthly bank charges are higher. There is also the point that ageing expats living abroad are not a drain on scarce national health resources at home and should be rewarded rather than punished. But whether Messrs Sunak and Hunt will be impressed by such special pleading is another matter altogether.

I was there a while back and liked every facet about this hotel from the service rendered from those behind the front desk, my calls to my room regarding my guest ( a hot masseur who visited me), the proximity to the clubs/bars, the price per night, etc. But again it was some 14 years ago.
