Friday 4/11. Not raining and 117 was busy. Got in late again about 8pm. New amigo from Canada has already left after meeting a “cute” guy there. I saw this white muscle guy chatting with a client. He tried to avoid eye contact with me. He must be getting his business. I walked around and ran into this sweet tall dark hunk from Bahia. We went to a room. On my way out the white muscle guy met me on the stairs and became such a very sweet talker, but I cannot handle another one. I left for the night, maybe next time when I see him again. Light shower on way out.3 points

Best gay friendly hotels to stay in Bangkok/Pattaya

I can't tell you how many bad experiences I've had at this resort, from a rude receptionist to an ant infestation, from hard, uncomfortable mattresses to being unable to get a baht bus in either direction because all of them, whether they're on their way to Jomtien or Pattaya, are full. It's an awful place in the middle of nowheresville. But it does have a nice pool if you wanna hang out all by yourself.3 points -

I stayed there 3 years ago at their 2 bedrooms jacuzzi suite, I think it's the best luxurious room I ever stayed in Thailand moreover you have free access to Zing pool .2 points -
Two observations if I may please, I think we can get far too hung-up about the term 'boy', it is universally used in Pattaya to describe the young males who work in bars, clubs etc., in just the same way that 'girl' is universally used to describe female staff/workers. Even though some of my 'boys' are now approaching 30 years old. At home in England I go out to the pub at night for a 'drink with the boys', I would never say going for a 'drink with the men' - just sounds weird even though most of us are pensioners now haha. Second is that occasionally a bar or club will have one or perhaps two boys on their staff in the 16-18 age range. They rarely admit that but instead simply insist that they don't 'go' with customers; instead they serve as eye-candy for drinkers in the bar. Caveat Emptor! Any boy agreeing to go back to your room should have an ID Card or passport that clearly shows their ages. My hotel checks those IDs on arrival. Its relatively easy to ensure that you play safe in order to stay safe. 😇2 points

If you are going to be on a weekend and are into saunas, don't miss going to Soi 13 in. It's in my opinion the best gay sauna in Asia. 3-stories with great facilities and the crowd is mostly slim and muscular young twinks and jocks. Plus, every night is naked night so there is so much eye candy going around. The peak is usually between 6:30-9:00 PM, as local guys get a discount if they enter before 7:30PM. I really enjoyed going there for Taipei pride the last two years before Covid. I would stay from 6:30-11:00PM. I think around 400-500 guys would pass on each night during those hours and not just Taiwanese but from all over East and Southeast Asia. It was pretty much non-stop fun. Really looking forward to do it again in 2023.2 points

I lost two lovers as a result of AIDS. I had been madly in love with the first, a Japanese, and we had talked about living together. But because we were then living almost 1,800 miles apart, even though we were meeting almost every month and took holidays together, I suppose it was inevitable that he would meet someone else. In my early 30s, I could not understand how any young Japanese (he was 25) could possibly leave me for a man more than double his age - he was 52(!) I did learn later he wanted stability and eventually to start a business. His new partner gave him both. He did write to me to say what had happened and how sorry he was that he had hurt me. At the time it was no consolation. Although it took me many months to get over the anger and to a certain extent the betrayal I felt, I eventually realised it was as much my fault. It was the early 1980s was I still quite new to Asia and certainly to Japan. A few years later he called me and asked if we could meet again. He wanted my help re part of his little business. We had a joyful reunion dinner and became good friends. FIve years after we had split up, when having tea he told me he had been feeling well. He and his bf were leaving for a long summer in London when he would seek treatment if he did not get better. Two months later, I got a call from his partner whom I had never even spoken to before. My first lover had died of AIDS. I flew over for the funeral. Looking back, it seems odd that I had no worries about being infected. Perhaps I was in denial with HIV/AIDS being a death sentence. We had never used condoms, but then when we were together we knew very little about HIV. Thereafter I always used them. In the early 1990s I met a tall Thai student in, of all places, Babylon. Having had part of his education in Australia, he spoke fluent English with a slight Ozzie accent. Over the next year or so we were to meet frequently, each time becoming more besotted with each other. I even seriously thought of moving to Bangkok just to be with him. But he wanted to leave Bangkok as he felt too confined here after the freedom he'd enjoyed in Sydney. He was desperate to live with me in Hong Kong. I knew - and told him many times - that he and we would face many obstacles there, far more than in Thailand. He could not continue his studies, without an HK ID card he would be unable to find a decent job - and so on. But he was adamant. Stupidly I gave in. Although we did lots of things together and I loved having him live with me, it was obvious he was beginning to regret his decision. Just before Christmas we went to Australia for 10 days as I had a couple of days business. With frequent absences from our hotel, I knew he'd been meeting old friends and perhaps returning to some of his old gay haunts. After quite a bitter argument one evening, he told me he would not come back to Hong Kong. He planned to stay with an old flame in Sydney. And that is what he did. This time I realised I had made the wrong decision and for months I regretted it. What I should have been aware of was that the freedom he had enjoyed before I met him in Babylon had included quite a bit of unprotected sex. After he became sick, he returned to his Kanchanaburi home where died of AIDS two years later. But again i did not get myself tested. Finally on a trip to Phuket with friends, I went to a clinic and after three days learned I was negative. Yet despite all the bad feelings, I was later to put these totally behind me and as @Mavica pointed out earlier, just remember all the wonderful times we had enjoyed. Despite the sorrow at relationships coming to an abrupt end and of young lives being cut far too short, I am surprised that these memories do not fade.2 points -

I stayed there once. Overall a good experience. The one thing that disappointed was the pool. A little on the small size and lounges rather cramped. Last time I was in Bangkok I stayed at the Plaza Athenee. Location not ideal but excellent service, a magnificent breakfast spread and a huge lagoon sized swimming pool, one of the biggest if not the biggest in Bangkok. I’m staying there again in January.2 points -

Just very recently, read yesterday I offered help to a known guy in severe financial need by promised to hire for 4 days at above market rate. My reward - his entire time with me was spent on his phone playing loud music out of it , even in bed and even at 4 a.m. So deal was cut short , surprise, by him citing my unreasonable demands like stop checking Facebook every 27 seconds. In country I was raided there,s saying "if you help yourself, God helps you too " , how true !2 points

First qantas flight Sydney to Santiago direct since pandemic began, onto Rio in a small plane with no business class. My seat mate in PE was a handsome family guy. When getting off he took the amenity kit, blanket and the pillow and an apple from the plane with him. He reminded me I have forgotten mine, I thanked him and explained my carry on bag was too full with no room for extra items. Take home message - maybe it’s okay to take away onboard items in South American flights? In my last 2 trips with United from IAH to GIG I saw seat 1A lady collected all used Polaris amenity bags from other seats, Sunday 30/10 - landed in time when announcement of Lula’s win was made. Firework outside of my window until after midnight. Not going out. V visited for the night. He is the tall handsome twink I met in my last trip. He and his cousin G always go to work together at 117. Now G got married to a rich girl and he has a Land Rover and Gucci sneakers. They have not been working for a month. I heard there is a truck driver protest-blocking highway from Sao pulo GRU airport to city the next day. I was lucky. Monday 31/10. Heavy rain está chovendo. Only pointe 202 open. Got there late about 8pm. Not crowded with only a few boys. Two were eager to offer the service sitting next to me showing off their big cocks. I have seen them both before. A new face with muscle from Uberlândia turned up. His name is T. I asked for price in front of all 3. Muscle guy T asked for 150, the skinny big dick guy asked for 200 then dropped to 120 for a 3some, then 150 with gozar (cum). I went with T solo as he said he is versatile, but he has never got a hard on in the room. His muscled arse and legs are unbelievable. He was excited to shivering when his nipples were played. I knew I was stupid but I did not put a condom on and eventually came in his arse. He was aware of the whole thing but did not say no. I gave him 200, asked for his WhatsApp and Instagram, and took a morning after pill when back home. He is not good at replying WhatsApp message. He has a degree in ME. He is handsome too. his balls are apparently shrunken. We all know why by seeing his perfect muscled body. That’s the price to pay. take home message - 1) have some prep/ anti viral ready for my future trip as I can’t predict when I will act stupid again. 2) if you use steroid to grow muscle, your balls will shrink. Tue 1/11 supposed to be the biggest night for 117 but there was a massive storm at 6pm. Still a good turnout at 117 but mostly familiar faces. Half of the boys I know have had put on an extra layer of fat, the other half an extra layer of muscle to the degree I no longer like. I saw this new young guy with a red cap spreading his legs while seating in a table with clients. I always fancy long thick thighs. He was cute too. He went upstairs with a pretty hot client, and came back sitting in the table again. He has never been available this night. I decided to go home empty handed. A hot boy (I saw him before too) was sitting on the stairs waiting for Uber to Botafogo. Yes it is correct it takes ages for Uber to come if it is raining. Sneaky thing is that you need to pay first before the Uber app tells you how long you have to wait. Shopped for toilet paper and beef in the supermarket next to Gloria metro then jumped onto a taxi. No longer empty handed às I have my toilet paper rolls in one hand and beef in another. Got back to apartment in Flamengo I saw my neighbour girl screaming in the hallway escorted back by police. She told me 3 “men’s” were following her and trying to get her just 300 metres from here in front of lojas americana. I gave her a pack of chocolate and a can of Heineken and wished her calm down and sleep well. Take home message: táxis are more reliable than Uber when raining. Keep safe always even in the “safe” neighbourhood. Wed 2/11 biggest night at Pointe. Junior was bartending. Still raining outside but a good turnout of boys and clients. Still mostly familiar faces. Hot muscle T is here again (he does not seem to go to 117). I told him I wanted to bottom tonight and he did not offer to top. Went to upstairs bar to check out more boys and saw this giant handsome guy standing at 6”5 just finishing a client. Beautiful thick thighs. He asked for a beer and then another. He smelt drunk. Big hard cock but did not want to perform properly in the room. Hurried off but gave me his cum in the shower. I gave him 200 as he asked for before sex. He then came back to me saying 300 two minutes later. I said no as we have agreed on 200 with gozar. He then backed off. He told me he is 32. His instagram has his swimwear modelling photos. unsatisfied i started looking again. A short guy with solid but proportionated muscles came to me. We waited for 15mm for the free suite. I saw him before but never had him. He was 20 yrs old with 2 sons, he was doing a good job. Got to the steam room before shower to go home. Hotter and steamer than 117’s. A hard working garoto wearing a figure-of-8 splint for his recent clavicular fracture came for business. He spoke very good English and told me he has not had a client tonight. I apologised as I cannot take more dick and admired his working spirit. Take home message - garotos over 30 turn to be sneakier and softer muscles in spite of still in shape. I have had similar experience with another beautiful 30+ surfer guy who frequents both saunas, he cannot top, and is an unwilling bottom. let’s hope tomorrow will not be raining again.1 point

Oh yeah, the old Rainbow sauna in Taipei. Brings back good memories. I went there a few times during my first visit to Taiwan in 2011. The facilities were kinda basic and a bit old, but there were lots of young twinks among the crowd. I was in my early 20s so didn't have any problems getting in or finding action once there. I remember people were actually very friendly as I was a bit shy. I was pretty much still a newbie when it came to gay saunas at that time. I had just been to two of them the year before in Seoul. You're absolutely right that the location of Soi 13 in is not that of Rainbow. I was told that the building of Soi 13 in used to be a karaoke bar before, and that explains the layout of the cabins and the cruising area in the lower floor. Also remember that Aniki sauna was all the rage 10 years ago, as the facilities were all brand new and the crowd tended to be younger and more muscular, albeit it was much pricier than Rainbow. I went a few times and it was truly a lot of fun. I think the last time was in 2016. Taiwanese friends told me that in the last few years it had become just a shell of its past self. The facilities were deteriorating fast, the crowd became much smaller but it still continued to have a higher entrance fee that Soi 13in. Read that it closed at the end of 2020. I guess, it means that the crowds at Soi 13 in will be even bigger now. I agree with @PeterRS about the friendliness of Taiwanese guy. Way more than Singaporeans or Hong-kongese imo. Good advice about Commander D (or just CD as local boys call it). I would also recommend another bar called the Hunt, especially on their towel night. You pretty much are given a towel when you get in and that's how you go around the bar. They have a dark room, which gets really steamy:). I was surprised to see it referenced in a gay Taiwanese movie called "The Story the Stone" (a modern gay retelling of one of the greatest classics of Chinese literature). For apps, beside Grindr and Blued, I would also suggest Hornet. It's quite popular in Taiwan and in a few other Asian countries.1 point

I'm a regular visitor to Taipei, usually 4 times a year pre-covid. Back next week for 16 days. For sauna, @hojacat is 100% correct. The only one worth visiting is Soi13in. Unlike @fedssocr, I find travelgayasia frequently disappointing and often inaccurate. For Soi13in it states it used to be called Rainbow. That's just not true. There was never a sauna in that location before. Rainbow was certainly a large sauna but the Taiwan guys who went there had an 'attitude' and foreigners were not always welcomed by other patrons. It was in a very different part of the city much closer to The Red House and closed several years ago. I believe the owners then opened Soi13in but the two are like chalk and cheese. Many twinks and many bottoms there. Take your own condoms and lube. There are other smaller saunas but frankly you could spend hours looking for them. For one night, just go to Soi13in. The easiest way to get there is the subway to Shuanglian on the Red Line (direction Tamshui), turn north-east out of the station and walk to the main road. Take the underpass, keep walking straight ahead and you will soon see it on your left as when you come to a left fork in the road. Never had a massage but I read on other forums that happy endings are not always possible and often are restricted to HJs. Best to check espeically if you want full service. The Red House is rather like gay central but forget about there being clubs there. It is almost entirely cafes, bars and restaurants. Great for eye candy especially on Friday and Saturday evenings. Easy to get to by subway - exit 1 at Ximen station. There are no gogos similar to those you will find in Thailand. There is one leather bar not far from The Red House called Commander D. Basically a leather fetish bar it is not to be confused with Commander Bar which is on the upper level at The Red House. Commander is basically just a bar. Commander D is located in a small basement in a residential area. Leather is not essential. It has special theme evenings which will often see a degree of nudity from the patrons. It also has a small stage and a dark room. But that is totally dark and so make sure you have no valuables on you if you enter. Getting around is easy IF you know where you are going. The subway is extensive and cheap. Taiwan gay guys are some of the loveliest and friendliest in Asia. But please be polite. Remember too that many gay guys go out with friends rather than solo and so in the bars it is sometimes less easy to find guys looking to meet up with a westerner. That's where the apps come are more useful. Change your photo and profile to taipei a few days before you arrive. Also remember that Blued is very popular in Taiwan. Money boys are not usual on the apps. Mostly it is younger Taiwan guys looking to spend time with westerners. MBs will usually tell you very soon after you start chatting. If you offer money to a non MB, it's possible this will might be regarded as an insult.1 point

For only one overnight, it will be more convenient to stay near the Taipei Main Station or MRT Ximen Station areas, both areas are fairly close to each other. The airport MRT train goes to Taipei Main Station and from there you can change train to Ximen Station or simply take a taxi. Listing below some venues in Ximen neighboring areas, unfortunately their websites are not all in English. Never been there though, just for reference. I stayed at East Suites in August this year. The room I had was very big, bed was ok but not great, the staff are all very nice. I wanted the jacuzzi room but it was booked, so I'm still considering going again to fill the jacuzzi with naked guys. They check guests' IDs if someone is in reception, but 50% of the time no one was there when I was bringing someone back. The negatives are there are no lifts, so climbing the stairs after a few beverages can be an ordeal and I had to chase around to cockroach one night to get it out of my room.1 point

When I was in Bangkok this August I stayed at a small, kinda newish boutique hotel in Silom called Artino. It was pretty decent. I recommend getting the Premium room. It's main advantage is that no key is needed to access the elevator, so you can tell the guy to come straight to your room, if you desire so (pretty convenient if you are trying to set up a 3+ type of gathering😁) Also it has a small garage that guests can use. Even though, unlike in other places like Vietnam, most of the guys you will meet will get to your place by public transportation or Grab, some of them actually want to use their motorcycle and parking in Silom can be a hassle. So having a free spot available is definitely appreciated. One of the guys I met actually even asked me later if he could park his car as he was spending the night at his regular fwb in Silom. I agreed. He was kind enough to come the next day and have some late-morning fun with me. Going back again for Xmas and this time staying at the new Ibis hotel in Silom. The reviews look pretty good. If you want something cheap, you can stay at Dvaree Express in Silom. Quite basic, but it's pretty much next door to G.O.D, so it's easy to pick up a guy late at night. You don't even have to go inside the club. I remember one time, just went out to buy some water when the club had just closed, struck a quick conversation with a cute twink and in two minutes he was in my bed. If you want something more upscale Pullman in Silom is quite popular with the gay crowd.1 point

Very helpful discussion, it piqued my interest in The Raya Surawong, so I checked it out on Tripadvisor. One of the reviews has this to say about the after-midnight entrance: "The doors to the main entrance will be locked at midnight, and the lift at their car park shall be used instead for entering or exiting the property. There was a security officer near the alternative entrance, who was there to stare at me with a very indifferent look when I was waiting to collect my food from my Grab rider. He even stood next to me and stared while I waited for the lift afterwards, so that was really awkward." Has anyone else encountered such a security guard?1 point -

I've just had 3 weeks in Thailand and a few days in Cambodia. Currently at Dubai waiting for connection to Manchester. If I was you I wouldn't have 6 nights in Bangkok. After staying at the fantastic Agate Hotel in Jomtien where all the twinks are directly outside, it was perfect. Bangkok has become a real disappointed since Soi Twilight has gone. DJ Station was a terrific evening though and must be tried....350 baht to get in which includes 2 free drinks. Generally Bangkok has become expensive for massage and drinks etc and it's much cheaper in Jomtien with far more choice. But my hotel in BKK was spot on and really close to Soi 4. It's a new build and now high season has started it was 1600 baht walk in price.. It's called The Quarter Silom by UHG and is on Soi 6 👍🏼1 point -

I don't think it is "officially", but more like "usually". Early February usually is, but as February wears on the number of high season tourists wears off. Just what kind of high season there will be this year remains to be seen, but for several years even before anyone ever heard of Covid, the tourist numbers dropped off to the point that I could no longer tell much difference between high season and low season. I'm keeping my fingers crossed because I believe this upcoming high season is crucial to what will become of the Thailand gay scene, especially in Pattaya. If it is a really good high season, I think we will see more go-go bars opening and reopening and more boys working in them. If the high season is a bust, then I believe the best we can hope for any time soon will be status quo. So gents, if you wish to help save Thailand's gay bar scene, during high season pack your bags and get thee to Thailand - and bring plenty of money . . .1 point

The posts in this thread and recent others suggests that those individuals we remember most intently were those who engaged us in ways that others did not. Although it may have been great sex that initially sparked the relationship, the guys we write about seem to have a common denominator: they reached us on an emotional level that left us feeling more whole and better about ourselves than our typical offs. Hopefully these pages will help us deal with aftermath of those often tragic deaths, and come to some kind of peace in our hearts1 point

Many years ago I knew a boy who worked at MicMy Bar in Sunee Plaza although cannot recall his name. We were friends and he sometimes would sleep at my hotel over the course of a few years. As time went on he seemed to have an undefined illness which his coworkers alluded to but were never specific. He moved back home to be with him mom but then wanted to return to Pattaya which he did. In his last year he often requested money from me and I thought perhaps it was a scam of sorts. I remember he would write "why don't you help me with some money" but he never got angry or belligerent. Then he died! I never learned the true cause of his death but still regret that I did not help him in his time of need.0 points -
From Thai PBS World Hundreds of GrabFood and GrabMart riders staged a mass protest today (Thursday), against changes to delivery service rules, issued by their company which, they claim, have resulted in a reduction in their earnings. The riders gathered in front of the Central World shopping mall in Bangkok’s Ratchaprasong area this morning, before proceeding to their company offices on Phetchaburi Road. The riders say that the company has imposed a zoning system, which has forced them to operate within each zone instead of throughout Bangkok. They also complain that they are ordered to take two delivery orders at the same time, instead of one, which has reduced their orders and the fees they can charge. The new rules, say the riders, have restricted their rights and affected their earnings. )0 points
