  1. I was walking along the Road New Twlight bar is on when three guys stationed by the side of road approached me. “Many new boys, come see”. They gestured toward what at one time formed the lead in the trifecta of sleaze—Super A, Golden Cock and Nature Boy. Sleaze. Really hadn’t seen much signs of it since returning so as the whore monger that inhabits all of us here I felt duty bound to check it out. Stepping through the door of Super A was like time travel, returning to my last visit over a dozen years prior. It was discomforting to see how nothing had changed: sofas to the right, tiny stage to the left and bar in back. Two customers were sitting with guys. I sat down in the unoccupied sofa and order a beer (200). Soon the show, more of a lineup actually, got under way. One guy stood on the stage and moved his arms slightly from side to side. Seven boys in street clothes stood to his right doing nothing, all with the look, “what am I doing here.” The same thought crossed my mind but I cautioned myself to give it a chance. Four or five minutes passed and nothing changed. The mamasan signaled to everyone to sit down. That prompted me to pay my tab and make for the door behind an Asian customer toting his bottle of beer. If I felt anything as I walked away it was sympathy for those who made up the ragtag crew whose vacant expressions spoke volumes. It can be challenging to get a new bar up and running, and sometimes too much of a one. But never under estimate the sleaze factor to prevail in the end.

    Arena Massage

I think that there have been several queries about the current status of Arena. Having been there recently I can confirm that it is open, but but……. I have been a fan of guys from Arena over more than twelve years. We(BF and I) have found some great guys while visiting there with whom we have gone on to have regular repeats offsite over several years. So, although I hadn’t been there for four years I approached today with some anticipation. However Silom Plaza, where it is located on the third floor, has deteriorated since my last visit, more shops closed and looking run down. It doesn’t really look an inviting place now. Elevator doesn’t work, impression of tumbleweed blowing etc.. Tip: for access the lift at the back of the complex is still working, and pressing Floor Three takes you to the front door of Arena, as I only learnt when leaving! Persisting I climbed the stairs to Arena. Going in I wasn’t impressed, either by the décor which is in a time warp from my first visit, nor by the masseurs who are presented in front of you in jeans after you have sat on the cracked leatherette customer chairs. I have read here of the predilection of some members for the mass murderer look. They should make their way here post haste. Of the twelve choices, three or so would have fit their requirements, three or so were forty going on fifty, and none of the remainder could have been described as either handsome or gym fit. They were just guys next door with all their imperfections. I decided to go ahead anyway interested to see whether the Arena sensual massage techniques had been maintained. Chose a shortish guy built like a brick shit house. Looked like a construction worker who had never been near a gym and without a semblance of a six pack. His smile revealed a prominent front cracked tooth. 1,000 Baht for two hour oil massage. In for a penny....... Up another floor to our room, which was self contained with a shower. All of the décor seemed untouched for a number of years, and I was a bit dubious that the covering of the massage table had been replaced from a previous customer(s). Flashes of monkeypox…….(Tip: Perhaps take your own towel to put on massage table if anxious!) That couldn’t be discussed with Nat, for twas he, as, thinking he might be from Isaan, with a dark complexion and a strong jaw, I asked him twice where his home town was. Having received a confused look the first time, and with the second response being “Two Years”, we settled on non verbal communication for the remainder of the session. Both of us took our clothes off straight away and I produced my own “Pjur” massage silicone cream which safely doubles as a lubricant. Avoiding the awkward transition from massage oil to condoms. My heart sank a bit when within three minutes of the start of the massage his hands had moved to my butt crack and were lightly brushing my arsehole. I expect some serious massage first before moving on, and then at least a little foreplay! It was a false alarm, perhaps a taster. We soon moved back to a really good full body massage starting at the feet and working up the body in a more traditional way. He regularly used an Arena technique that I haven’t come across elsewhere(perhaps I’ve led a sheltered life) which stimulates the area around your cock and ass. It involves running both elbows up the inside of your thighs and somehow feels like your butt is lifted in the air. He also used another, for me, Arena trademark, brushing his fingertips on the surface of your skin as they walk up your body with a barely perceptible touch. Time passes and somehow as part of the massage Nat’s chest is regularly pressing into my back(I am still lying on my front). Towards the end I feel a finger playing with my arsehole, for several minutes, and then a large cock pressing for entry. I point to the condoms that I had brought and which he readily used, although he had none and seemed to be fine to go bareback. He fucked me with enthusiasm while panting(with at least part lust?!) while I was on my stomach. He then pulled out, turned me over and fucked me in the missionary position before again pulling out, removing the condom and repeating several times “coming” “coming”. He then had just about the most vocal orgasm that I have known a thai to have, combined with a series of intense shudders as he came on my stomach. He must have been very horny! He wanted me to come, but I was content already and didn’t need any more “servicing”. Then came almost the most touching and memorable part of the massage. He helped me, an elderly gentleman who had just been pummelled in every way for two hours, gently off the massage table, supporting me to the shower in every way. He was aware and solicitous of the fact that I might not be completely steady on my feet anyway after this experience, and that having oil on my feet made me especially vulnerable. Having escorted me to the in-room shower, he proceeded to join me and soap every inch of my body in a most tender way. I felt five years old! Despite having received his tip in the room, he escorted me every step of the way down stairs and out to the lift, which is why I found out that it was still working. I hope this assists those thinking of visiting Arena, and if it earns Nat an extra client or two, I will be happy for him. I gave Nat B2,000 and the minimum tip is B1,500, so I expect that there are others there who may provide a similar service. All in all it was a memorable experience although not entirely for the reasons I anticipated. Although there was raunch, sleaze even, the tenderness from the masseur, during the massage and afterward, was the feeling that touched me the most.

    The return of Super A

They didn’t appear necessarily skinny or necessarily muscled. A few wore jackets. Best useful term that comes to mind is boys next door, one of who looked too young to drive.

  5. When you enter my apartment first thing you notice is sizable Brazilian painting of naked native girl. You think it makes me straight? Not disputing that most massage guys are straight, often with wife and kids. One always wonders though, how straight is guy who sports erection as soon as he starts massage. Reader hit the nail - no need for gay or straight labels , all that matters is what happens after door are closed. Never lose hope, there was boy I offed quite a few times , so straight that he did not allow even touch his bum. And yet he succumbed to charms of one of our non-contributing members who let me know because was acting on my recommendation to off him and things went too far so to speak. On next trip guy in question actually professed ( we had great chemistry) that he lost his male virginity and was shocked to find out that he actually liked it. Ever since I consider 'straight" sticker useless when comes to working guys.

jackets? they had snow in that soi or what? But for 200 / drink I'd be tempted to check. I offed one boy from there over years but he was good enough so I repeated the feast day or two later so generally have good memories from there. Once me and ChristianPFC were stuck there during deluge so at least it was roof over their heads and pretext to do some body serach of guys seating with us

    Is Dreamboys Moving?

Kings Castle is part of the Kings group, they own and run the Girl gogo bars and also had a ladyboy bar, the actual Kings Castle is a girl gogo bar on Patpong 1. My memory has Kings Castle 1 and 2 and they used to have Kings corner. I think at one stage there was also a Kings massage with both girls and ladyboys

  8. I’ve found that most of straight men (variously refereed to as “all man”, “real man”, in the vernacular) will provide hand job happy ending because they know it will pad their tip. As for Cloud Massage, no one can accurately predict what will actually happen once the door is closed. That’s when the real “policy” is made.

  10. From Variety International streaming company Netflix has unveiled six new titles representing its first wide-ranging slate of content from Thailand. Its four films and two series span the comedy, suspense and comedy drama genres and hail from six different local production firms – GMM Studios, International, GDH, Song Sound Productions, Transformation Films, 18 Tanwa and Jungka Bangkok. Significantly, too, they are sourced from established directors or producers. Writer-director Prueksa Amaruji’s dark comedy film “Lost Lotteries” is produced by Ekachai Uekrongtham (“Beautiful Beautiful Boxer,” “Pleasure Factory”) and will stream from mid-November. Writer-producer Kongdej Jaturanrasmee and veteran indie producer Soros Sukhum (“Memoria,” “Pop-Aye”) are behind director Sitisiri Mongkolsiri’s “Hunger,” a family drama with food as its central theme. It stars Chutimon Chuengcharoensukying, aka Aok Bap, the breakout star of “Bad Genius” and a former Talent to Watch, selected by Variety and the International Film Festival & Awards Macao. Veteran director Wisit Sasanatieng (“Tears of the Black Tiger”) is directing “The Murderer,” a dark comedy set in one of Thailand’s poorest and most looked-down-upon regions in which a British man is accused of murdering his wife’s family, but it is the wife that has to defend him. Another veteran director Nonzee Nimibutr (“Jan Dara”) is set to deliver “Mon Rak Nak Pak,” a drama about the good old days of Thai cinema when dialog was narrated live and medicine carts were used to bring in audiences. “Shutter” director Parkpoom Wongpoom directs and jointly produces series “Delete,” a love triangle thriller in which a complicated relationship leads to people being erased from others’ lives. Aok Bap also stars. Nalina Chayasombat, who previously worked with Wongpoom on “Shutter” and “Phobia 2” is directing series “Analog Squad,” in which a group of misfits is hired to play the part of estranged family members in order to fill in the cracks of a broken family. Netflix has previously commissioned individual shows in Thailand, rather than a slate of local titles and enjoyed success with “Bangkok Breaking,” and the recently launched “Thai Cave Rescue.” The approach is changing as the company tries to drill down to local level in more territories and as it responds to competitive pressure from rival platforms who have also targeted Thailand for expansion. “We’re always looking for stories that are authentically local and when we give it the greenlight, we make sure it’s created in the best possible format to bring that story to life,” said Yongyoot Thongkongtoon, an experienced local director (“Iron Ladies”) and now Netflix’s Thailand content lead, told Variety. “For this initial slate, it just so happened that most of the stories that were pitched to us were most suited for film. However, we’re always looking for opportunities to optimize for more balanced programming as we continue to expand our slate in the next few years.”

    Tunisia

I had a chance to travel for one month to Tunisia back in August and sample many of the wonderful young Arab men available. Here are some of my notes: Tunis: When I arrived, the messages on Grindr began to light up considerably. As I did in other countries, I would ask to video chat and most chose not to. It was clear in two instances that the men were contriving something as they insisted that I come to their place in the far rural section of Tunis. I agreed in one instance to meet, but decided to arrive two hours before. I sat at a café and watched the area. The young man in question arrived with four of his friends. The man sat at the bench in the center of the park where he wanted to meet, and his four friends scattered around the park. At that point I got up and took a taxi back to my hotel. I texted the guy and asked why he did not come alone as requested. When I showed him the long-range photo I took, he said he would report me to the police. Obviously, he would not and could not since he had no information. He proved the point that Grindr in Tunisia can be dangerous. I stayed the first week in a tourist hotel on Ave Habib Bourguiba (hereafter AHB) which is the main avenue in Tunis. Guests were not allowed back at the hotel so I had to try other venues. I had stayed in Tunis six times before, and usually frequented the three centrally located movie theatres where there were always some men available for action. Unfortunately, these movie theatres have now become strictly legitimate and do not allow any gay action in them at all. I also tried the Belvedere Park and Tunis Zoo which was where you could usually pick-up men and use the woods. Sadly, there were just families during the day and no men out in the evening. I had previously had good luck at both places. For this trip, I was able to find young guys only by walking the AHB. There are benches all along the central pedestrian section of the Avenue. Get yourself something to drink and just sit and watch the people. Inevitably, there will be some young guys that will walk up, sit down, and start a conversation clearly for money. In three instances I asked where we could go. In all three they took me to one of the theatres. So, while the theatre itself had no guys available, you could go in separately and then find each other in a quiet area. The biggest theatre in Tunisia (over 500 seats and three levels) is right on the AHB and is called Cinéma Le Colisée. I used to have great fun in previous years with guys in the lower section there, but now you need to find and bring your guy from outside. The second place to meet guys is at the corner where AHB crosses Rue de Marseille. Get yourself a coffee at the corner Patisserie Naouri and sit to watch the guys come by. If you smile and want to talk, you will need to get up and go chat as the servers are very careful to not allow bystanders to interfere with guests. The third place to find guys is at the east part of AHB where it meets Place du 14 Janvier 2011 (this is where the famous Clock of Habib is located). Get yourself a coffee from the corner Pomme De Pain and sit to watch all the boys gather in the park next to it. The park is located between the Pomme De Pain and the Café La Fontaine. You can have a conversation with the guys and most will know a place nearby in an alley or side street where you can do the deed. Almost all the guys at the first three places were active, while the guys at the corner park area were active and passive. I later returned on my exit from the country to stay one more week in an Airbnb that had a private entrance. In that case, I took guys back from the third location park with no problem. Sousse: I stayed in an Airbnb with private access. You can easily figure out the places to stay by reading the reviews of places on Airbnb. If a gay had a problem bringing back a guy, you will see that he compliments the owner for the security of the place and the night guard. He likewise compliments the owner for private access to signal to the rest of us the option to bring a guy back. I stayed in Sousse three weeks this time, but have also stayed six times before. The main road for finding guys is along the see wall pedestrian area starting at the northern end on Ave Hedi Chaker (hereafter AHC) where it meets the Hotel Riadh Palms, and then simply walk down the sea wall pedestrian area south past the Place Bou Jaaaar and down the Habeeb Burgioba Street (hereafter HBS) until you get to the Claridge Hotel. I walked that several times a day and you can always find young men. I found guys this time for service at two places. The first was by sitting with other gay men at the famous Café La Sirene at the Place Bou Jaafar. Sit there at the outside covered tables, have yourself an orange juice, and just watch the many many guys that parade by. If you are interested in a guy, you can ask him to join you and the staff will have no problem. The second place is the Café Jus Glaces at the corner of HBS and Rue Palestine. Sit, get a drink, watch the boys, and invite some to sit at your table. Do a google maps search and it will even show you ME sitting at the bar watching the boys go by. The go-to bar for guys keeps changing every year it seems. It used to be a bar on the northern end of Sousse near Mongi Slim, but this time it was closed. As for where to have sex, Airbnb was the way to go this time. I was able to invite many men back with no problems. Now, I did have two guys that showed me ID and they were clearly 19, but they looked much younger and I did not want to risk it. So, I asked THEM where we should go. In one instance the young man had me pay for an unofficial one-hour hotel. It required him to first talk with the clerk with me outside, then he waived me in, I passed the money to the clerk, and off we went to the room for an hour. The same happened with a second guy who took me to another place. I was very cautious because I would not provide my ID to get a room as is normally required by law. So I told the young men that I had no ID and they knew a place to go. It went so well that I always first asked a guy if he knew of a place to go. If they did not, then I would use my Airbnb. Interestingly, several other guys told me they come to Sousse from the rural areas to make some money for a few days. If they don’t get a room, then they have to stay on the streets or in a Hamman. The final place for me was the legit theatre on HBS known as Cinema Le Palace next to the Bar Tapas. This smaller theatre shows legitimate movies and is VERY frequented by couples to make out. However, there always seemed to be at least one guy for sex there in the afternoons that you could meet in the smallest bathroom stall I have ever encountered. Interestingly, the two young men who run the theatre for their family (an old man or old woman always takes the money) were both available for blow jobs when I was there. One is a bit strange with glasses, and the other seems to dye his hair a different color each time I visit. GRINDR: Be warned it can be dangerous. SEX: Most of the guys are active, like to get sucked, will fuck, and many will also kiss. Tunis and Sousse both had passive guys, but they were usually dressed with lipstick and overtly effeminate. As you will note from police reports, Sousse especially has very young guys for trade. In turn, Sousse is very active in arresting those who pay for underage sex. Two German men were arrested the week I was there because one of them took back an underage boy to his apartment and was reported. Stings are the norm and money/bribes will not help out. As one French gay couple told me, there are weekly stings that are set-up precisely to entrap foreigners who prey on the underage there. There are plenty of young boys/guys that are available of legal age. PAY: The street guys usually wanted 30-50 Tunisian dinars ($11-$18 USD) for a quick blow job. When I took a guy back to my place, they usually asked for 50-75 dinars ($18-$27). LANGUAGE: Arab and French, although the boys seem to know German and English as many gay tourists come from Germany and the UK.

Wow! what an interesting discussion! Viva la difference! Personally when i was young i thought it utterly disgusting. the whole shit thing. my first boyfriend insisted on rimming me... all the time. it felt OK not great. I would not kiss him until he brushed his teeth and mouthwash. Now many years later... I do not expect or request a man do it to me, it is not a fabulous feeling. but I must admit I love to rim a clean smooth hole... before I fuck it. In Colombia, many men (tops) wanted to rim me before they fucked me. the bottoms all expected me to do it to them as the only lube they wanted was my spit before they accepted my raw cock (they actually wanted only spit, no lube .... an uncut cock thing?). In Asia, I rimmed some men... always very clean always somewhat worried about traveler's Diarrhea. I always wondered in light of the cultural left hand right hand syndrome how rimming could ever be a thing...

  20. Just by sheer chance saw your name on the listing so read this report. Wow-thats a lot of holidays in a short time. Have also been to MX-3 times (very 1st only a short 2 days out of Texas) but never been here. Have (same series as that TMOT books) also still a kind of insiders ´gay guide´ for MX-also describing this Pacific Ocean resort, most of it (as I remember now) on the strip/´gogo´ etc. bar scene in MX-city/ciudade/DF. All in all I kind of tend to think now this was also very much possible in some Espanol resorts or on Canarias. No MXP=peso, but hard €. Also muchas gracias to slovakguy (actually I now sit in PL pretty close to SK) for his additions. THai massage (and with some Thai text, so probably real and not fake-VNese) is here too. But it will not entice me to go to PV. Were all those guys also Mexicano? Or do they also have an influx from the poorer Latino-countries? How are bar times? I for myself do not like that all-night fun time-am a very early riser and somehow that Spanish rhythm of the day never really catches me on (siesta, dinner at 22.00, after that only bars get barely going etc.).

  22. Taking this topcic a little further, I happen to believe that with its no longer being necessary to go out and actually meet guys in a bar, at parties or with friends in a coffee shop, this lack of social interaction is one key result of the internet. The internet is so pervasive that too many individuals, especially younger ones, are increasingly lost without access to the so-called social media (which I consider more anti-social media) and this almost automatically breeds loneliness and an increasing inability to interact socially with other people. My partner was telling me about his best friend, a cute Thai, who had recently met a visiting mid-40s German whom he very much likes. Indeed he hopes that a relationship will develop. But when four of them went out for dinner a few nights ago, his friend spent much of the evening on his phone. Perhaps not surprisingly the German got fed up with this and turned his attention to my partner who has become very sociable over the years. He didn't get very far, though!

    Is Dreamboys Moving?

I visited Dream Boy at its' new location over the weekend. Others above have accurately described the place. The premises are impressive: Same as when it was Lucky Boy. For a boy bar its' a gigantic size with tiered seating- a bit like theatrical circle and stalls (UK style) with an enormous high ceiling and all seating in front of a grand stage. Comfortable and exciting. I had already been to a few bars and had consumed plenty of booze when I got there to Dream Boy ; quite busy maybe 50-80 customers with about 40-50 boys. Mainly masculine types with a sprinkling of other types. They could improve by getting more twinks. The show was as usual and ok but nothing special. As I had been on a bar crawl that night with a guest in tow I will not reveal how much I spent..... Most of the go go bars are charging 350-400 per drink and as I enjoy my drink, so it was a pricy night out and important at every bar to check the bins carefully and the change. Incidentally off fee is 500 baht. By chatting to the mama san can easily find out which boy does what, etc. Despite a lot I spent, I had a great night and Dream Boy is a fun place: Can recommend! 😀

  25. As kind of an aside, those of you who have been around long enough might remember the Pattaya Gay board, owned by Allen Briggs, and the Dreaded Ned board. In those days my board and their boards constituted the "Big Three". The three of us used to meet regularly, usually at my house, and discuss the board goings on, how we each like to run our boards, what we want to see on our boards, how to handle trolls and other problem posters, etc. My boyfriend at the time always made lunch for us. Now I believe the only board owner actually living in Thailand is me, so such meetings are no longer possible. I miss that. One goal I had, and actually still do, was hoping to get good participation from all the major gay venue areas in Thailand - Chiang Mai, Bangkok, Samui, and Phuket. That has been a failure and instead my board became "Pattayacentic", mainly because Pattaya is where I live and I rely on those living elsewhere to help provide information about their areas. I get good participation from Bangkok, once in a while from Chiang Mai, but to this day I don't think I've ever had even one post from anyone living in Phuket or Samui. Even now the board owners cooperate with each other and try to help each other when a need arises.

  29. Whether Thais wear helmets is beside the point. They are Thais living in Thailand. Doing what feels right is also basically selfish in my view. On the Skytrain the other day, everyone in the three cars I checked was masked, including farang and all tourists, apart from three Germans who had masks on but had moved them under their chins and were chatting and laughing loudly. If the looks from the Thais on the train could kill, those guys would not have got off the train.
    1 point
  30. For several reasons I still wear the mask. For me, I wear it because nearly all the Thais wear it and I live here. Even though the mask is no longer required in public, so many places still require it that it seems pointless to me to try avoiding it. Also, I have become so used to wearing the mask that now I feel uncomfortable and awkward if I'm not wearing it. It's not hurting anything, so I wear it. I take it off when driving my car or entering a restaurant. Other than that, most of the time it's on. One other little thing - with a face that looks like mine, I'm doing the world a favor by covering it up with the mask. A few others around here might be kind enough to consider doing the same . . . 31. I feel naked without a mask, weird. People complain about wearing a mask, yet wear clothes....I feel it's more a political statement than anything else....I don't get it 😏

  32. I am in Bangkok. I do not personally see the need for masks. However, it is the law and it is the norm and I wear them everywhere. This is not my country and I owe respect to those that are Thai. My feelings are irrelevant. I have seen many eye rolls at foreigners who take off the masks. For those that wish to follow the norms in the USA, feel free and go to USA and do that. But, when in Thailand, respect their rules and norms.

    Tunisia

A FEW ANSWERS TO THE QUESTIONS ASKED: Do you go into the desert Berber areas? Yes, just as I also described in the Morocco section. With Tunisia there was less of the exotic Berber camel and tent experience. I visited three places in Tunisia for this where I had luck with the young men. My first excursion was to Matmata, Tamezret, and Toujane. This is once again a case of finding the vendors and people who were alone and having a private location to go to. Several of the young men at Matmata (I visited because of Star Wars) offered their crotches to me. I had two in the nasty bathrooms that they took me to do the deed. One other one was selling the pottery outside his home door. He rubbed his crotch and then motioned me to come into his home. As I started, he suddenly yelled for his wife and kids to exit the house… scared the shit out of me! He closed the door and presented his already hard dick faster than I could get on my knees. The second set of Berber places was Tataouine and Chenini. I had very weird experiences at both. Seeing me walking alone, the young men and boys would approach and ask for money. I would say no, and then would make my way down the roads past the vendors. Within a few minutes I would see some of the same boys standing at the corners of buildings looking at me and rubbing their crotch. They were not just itching, but clearly offering their services. It was as if the young men of these places were vying to see who could get my money. In Chenini a young woman even offered her son or husband (not sure which he was) to me by pointing to his crotch and making the gesture of a long dick. It was crazy! I was so flipped out that I did nothing at these two places. The final place was in Kesra. I decided to take a two day tour of Roman and Byzantine sites, and that included this place. The view from the top is nice, but the buildings as such were quite shoddy. Even the supposed colourful steps were badly painted. But, there was a young man selling fruit so I stopped to buy one. He then proceeded to show me byzantine coins he had found. I decide to buy one and we negotiated. I gave him the money and then he looked at me to ask if I wanted “shisha”. Now, I had presumed he meant the tobacco that was placed in a houka. I looked confused and made the motion for a houka mouthpiece being put in my mouth. He then laughed and shook his head NO. He then pointed to me with his right hand and did the houka mouthpiece gesture, whilst rubbing his crotch. Ahhh, I said, and then smiled and licked my lips. I then was escorted around the corner between two buildings where I had a Berber houka without the tobacco. So, shisha has become my go-to-word to use in northern Africa with a gesture to show that I like to give a blow job. Have you been to Brazil? It seems like Sousse is similar in access to guys. Completely different! I have been going to Brazil once a year for 25 years. You simply cannot beat the sauna scene there for the sheer number of affordable, gorgeous guys, passive and active, in a safe and clean location where you can experiment and do so much. Sousse is a different type of experience where you can easily enjoy young horny straight arab men for an affordable price. They are everywhere on the streets and beach boardwalk. The challenge is that it takes longer to get to the action and you are more limited in what sex you can have. Any thoughts on pickup on sellers in the souk?... and… Have you tried the Medina in Tunis and Sousse? My answer for this is similar to my answer in my post for Egypt and Morocco. Let me first say that I had absolutely no luck at the souk in Tunis. The challenge with the Medina in Sousse is that most of the shops spread out onto the walkway and offer absolutely no privacy. My only luck there was as you walk from the Medina towards the port/Pirate ship everyone uses as a landmark. There were a number of fabric shops and a section where the rural vendors come to sell their produce. I had luck with two of the fabric vendors in the late evening (during the day they were swarmed by old ladies). They closed their doors and let me enjoy them. The produce vendors were interesting. I happened down an alley way where a young man was cleaning and separating some apples. Behind him was an open door and what looked to be a storage room. So, I started to look, gave him the eye, and he motioned me into the room where he closed the door. Two minutes later we were finished and I bought the most expensive single apple in my life from that encounter. I should mention that my first day of walking through the Medina just brought the usually pleas to enter their shop. When I came back the second day, they seemed to remember me ignoring them from the prior day so they usually said nothing. On the third day of walking through, the young men, by now seeing my glances, started to rub their crotches. It was playful, but nothing would usually come of it. So, the problem is that the young men are so proliferous on the streets that the souk challenge, at least in these two cities, was not very productive.

  36. The following quote is from the Wall Street Journal (Oct. 10): In their efforts to understand the killings, many here cite drugs, which they describe as a blight on their community that ensnares teenagers and workers alike. Police said the killer had a history of drug abuse and was fired as a police officer after being arrested for methamphetamine possession. An autopsy showed he hadn’t taken any narcotics before the attack. He was scheduled to appear for a court hearing on Friday in connection with the drug-possession charge. Mayor Taweesak Chantasri, a former journalist and political activist who oversees a larger region that encompasses the district of Uthai Sawan, said methamphetamine abuse is common. Some workers on the plantations and in the factories have been known to get hooked after taking it to help finish grueling shifts or meet production quotas, he said. “It’s a very difficult problem,” he said. Cheap and abundant, “the drugs are everywhere in society,” he added.
