That was the smart thing to do and is what I always recommend. If serious about moving to Thailand, if possible try a long term stay first before committing and make sure to leave yourself an escape route in case it doesn't work out. Thailand is not for everybody. People very quickly find out that actually living in Thailand is very different from a holiday in Thailand. You did it just right. People like me are living in Thailand because it did work out and we are here because we want to be here - and wanting to be here is a far cry from finding yourself stuck here. It is reminiscent of that old saying - "It's a nice place to visit, but I wouldn't want to live there." Folks, if you are serious about wanting to live in Thailand, make sure you are doing your thinking with your head, not your crotch.8 points

The Pride Parade is a wonderful day. I have been to 7 of the Parades since my first in 2011. My latest was in 2018 when there were more than 160,000 marching. The parties over that weekend are also packed. Other gay venues are also totally full. For my second Parade, I decided to go to a hot spring in the evening. For the first time ever, I experienced a 20-minute queue to get inside the door and then it was another 20 minutes before I could get to the locker area. Glancing at the main pool on the left, I was so surprised I could see no water. It was just packed with naked young guys, almost all Asians. A few photos of previous parades. The first was taken by me but has been stolen from a chat site and is now used in at least two commercial gay sites!5 points

Part 19: Back to Bangkok As I wrote earlier I had a few days break from bars and boys. It is 10 years ago that I visited Ayutthaya so I figured it would be nice to get there again. Found a really nice guesthouse, stayed there two night while during the day I was rediscovering some beautiful temples. The guesthouse is Baan Tye Wang. Anybody visiting Ayutthaya I strongly recommend this place. Modern nice rooms looking out on garden and river. The rooms have outdoor shower. The guesthouse is run by a very friendly lady who speaks enough English to arrange things and give some information. Breakfast was simple, as to expect in place like this. Evening before you choose what breakfast you want and they make sure to make it for you. Standard fresh orange juice, coffee, tea, milk with cereal, toasted break with jam on top or your chosen breakfast. I choose for fresh fruits and a croissant. The guesthouse doesn't offer dinner, but the lady gave me good advice and arranged tuktuk and I had a lovely dinner. The same friendly tuktuk driver (its the fixed driver for this guesthouse, a couple - man and lady - who drive the tuktuk together) was driving me around Ayutthaya to see all the temples the next day also. Arranging an official taxi from Ayuttaha to Silom would have costs 1200 baht, but even in Ayutthaya the Bolt app is working very well... So eventually I only paid 800 baht for the drive to Bangkok. Earlier in my trip report hotel choices is Silom were discussed. There's a new hotel just opened recently: Ibis Styles Silom. And I decided to check in out for the next few days. Conveniently located on Silom Road, few minutes walk from Sala Daeng Skytrain station. Next to CP tower actually. So very good located to the main gay areas: soi4 is just on the opposite side of the road, and so are the entries to Patpong2 and the soi where Tawan is located. I asked to allocate me a room on the outside of the hotel as I had read online that rooms on the patio side of the hotel can have some noise pollution from the hotel patio and restaurant. The modern rooms are nice and colourful. And with the hotel still being brand new, everything is very clean and almost untouched and unused. Onl ylittle downside: like almost all modern hotels you need a keycard to access the elevator. So you will need to meet your (Grindr) boy outside or in the lobby to bring him up. I always like then option to just let hen come directly to your hotel room. I expect no problems bringing boys back to my room actually. As this hotel hosts a monthly rooftop gay pool party every first Saturday of the month. So it must be a very gay friendly and welcoming place. Anyhow, I'm sure this was a good hotel choice for me for the coming nights on Bangkok... Let's see what adventures will happen this time.4 points

I think I have problably told my story too many times before - so apologies in advance to those who know it. I gave up my job and rented apartment in the UK in my 20s. I had always been adventurous, loved travelling and visited several Europen countries. Then I went to the USA and decided I wanted to work in New York, a city which amazed and captivated me. I returned for a vacation two months later trying to find work. But there seemed none available. Almost immediately on my return a friend asked if I would like to work in Hong Kong. My initial reaction was 'No'. I wanted to go west not east. I knew virtually nothing about Asia apart from a little about the war in Vietnam and the Cultural Revolution in China. But it would be a part of the world I could explore. Even if I disliked the job, it would give me a chance to see quite a bit of Asia that I might never again have a chance of seeing. This was after all a time before mass travel to Asia apart from occasional stopovers on the kangaroo route to Australia. So I did the interview and was offered the job. I dithered for 24 hours as it was a really major move into the unknown. Then I signed the contract. 6 weeks later I was in one of the most stunning and fascinating cities in the world (at that time). Once settled into the job and my lovely apartment (being on expatriate terms thankfully I had an accommodation allowance), I was hooked. I stayed there for far longer than the initial 2 years of my contract - 20 in fact. I explored most of Asia including Bhutan in the year when it had total tourist numbers of just 17,300 (in 2019 it was 319,000). I had also spent 2 years working in Tokyo, a city I found as fascinating as Hong Kong and where I would love to have lived - had there been a job and enough salary to afford it! On all my travels I indulged in a gay lifestyle I could never have dreamed of when I had started working in the UK. In the mid-1990s I had to decide: do I remain in Asia for the rest of my life or should I consider returning to the west? It did not take me long to decide Asia was my home. With a view to eventual retirement, I purchased a small condo in a very quiet residential part of Bangkok. I had visited Bangkok so many dozens of times and enjoyed so much of what it offered, particularly gay life, even though I was aware that later in life I hoped to be settled down with a partner rather than being a typical expat butterfly. So it has worked out. Only once have I considered returning to the UK. I had had an excellent medical insurance policy for decades. By the time I reached 55 I was shocked at the premium increase. Looking at the estimates of forward premiums I realised I had to change to one that would be more suited to Thailand than worldwide. Before the next major premium hike at age 60, I consulted a poster on another Board who the Board owner had consistently recommended as being the best for medical insurance advice. After exchanges of emails and meeting him twice, I went with one of his recommendations. For a few years all went well. Then in the space of just two renewals, I was faced with 103% premium increase. I was furious with this "expert" but also at myself. Had I checked on the insurance company, I would have noticed a lot of correspondence on the internet about its hooking in older people with lower premiums which then get jacked up massively after 65 by which time finding any insurance can be extremely problematic. So I returned to the UK one November/December to spend several weeks staying with many old friends and trying to find somewhere relatively inexpensive where I would be happy living even at the worst weather time. At least I would have the benefit of the National Health Service. I found some beautiful parts in the north west of Scotland and in south east England. But I knew my heart and my mind were by then rooted in Asia. So I felt I had to find a way of making Bangkok work for the future. Thankfully I did. Now, apart from Taipei and Tokyo where I have a network of friends, I could never consider living anywhere else.4 points

Till this date I am still thinking about the boy I had in Phuket . It was a good 10 over years ago .I was alone on the beautiful island and I want to the shopping center ( can't recall the name ) the one that was located on the middle of nowhere. Near phuket town .a big shopping area . Anyway .I was just walking around aimlessly when I saw this super handsome sale person in a shoe shop . I just need to go in and check him up . He spoke ok English and I brought a pair of shoe ( which i dont need ) from him and after I lied to him that it was my first time on the island and would be great if he can join me for dinner and drink later that night ..he agreed and we exchange number . He arrived at my hotel lobby with his girlfriend..I didn't show my disappointment and we went ahead for dinner at patong area ..after that we went for drink in one of the pubs nearby . That's when his girlfriend said she need to go off first to my delight.. so the boy stay. And I get to know him better ..I recall he was 20 . From Phuket ..and he mention that he needed to earn money badly for whatever reason I can't recall ..anyway after few drink I had the courage to propose to him that he spend the night over with me and i will pay him. It took him awhile to said yes ..and without wasting time we finish our drink and walk back to my room. . I took off his shirt the moment I closed the door and I was sooo super excited to see a solid 6 packs ..wow ..he was perfect..young . Super fit and super handsome.. I went straight to kiss him on the mouth and he didn't stop me ..I tasted his whole body beforw I led him to the bed . He just lay there and let me do my things ..I blow him and he was hard almost immediately.. I remember asking him if he was gay ..but he assure me he is not ..it didn't took him long to cum ..he rejected my request to blow me ..and I understand..it was already great that I have his body for my enjoyment .. He came to me for the next few nights after his work ... and allow me to used his body for money .. He was really the best boy I had till now .. But when I try to connect with him on my next trip to phuket ..he was gone ..change his number and when I went to the shop to look for him . The staffs told me he has left and they had no idea how to contact him Felt sad ..but am also grateful that I had him atleast for a few nights . Hope he is doing well now ..4 points

Hey Rob its been at least 14 -15 yrs I think. Hope you are well. In spite of 2 heart attacks w a triple by-pass, 4 colon surgeries and just plain getting old I am doing quite well. Thanks for asking. I said I would stop hiring escorts when I turned 50 and actually stopped when I was 51 (15 years ago). My last escort was Michael Vincenzo, geez he was great. I had to retire early and unexpectedly, during the 2009 recession, so I also stopped the traveling but I became a full time Grandpa and grandkid driver. Nothing like grandkids.4 points

Yes, Taiwan has tons of visitors for Pride. Last time I went the airport was full of gays from around Asia. The immigration line took a long time. I think it's a great place to visit any time, but their Pride is the biggest in Asia. The parade is quite long.4 points

Fares to Asia are in general much higher now than pre-Covid. Strong demand as travel are recovering but still limited seats available. As for Colombia or other countries in S. America, the fares are also quite high. EUR 1536 for a C/J class ticket with LH is a steal! This summer fares to Colombia with LH was EUR 2.000 + for economy. In general AMS is one of the cheapest points of departure in Europe.2 points

So yeah I think the right conclusion is you were just unlucky. Don't think you can say in general Vietboys are bad... After all you only tried two... Can't really call that representative research. If I have two bad expierence with guys with black hair, I don't go out posting that all guys with black hair are bad... What I'm trying to say is maybe you can make your postings a bit more nuanced.2 points

Part 18: More fun in Phuket... With no go go bars being re-opened (yet), to get some fun in Phuket you have to scroll the apps, venture to the massage shops or just flirt with boys you like in the nightlife. There are a few massage places catering for us kind of people in the Paradise Complex. Most of them situated in the middle Soi. The one directly in front of the hotel tower. 4 Massage, right on the first picture. Actually very close to entrance of the hotel. The most boys and greatest variation of types I found on offer at 4 Massage. Also Blue Dolphin has his fare share of boys. But don't forget to check out the massage shops with smaller amount of boys. As there can be a stunner also. I found for example a very goodlooking boy at Sabai Sabai. In the evening it was time to enjoy the nightlife again. I couldn't find Spartacus. Google made me believe Spartacus was in the beginning of the Soi where Zag club is. But nothing open there. The first open establishment on the left side when you enter is Zag. On the right side there's another bar but is seems to be a normal bar. No gogo boys or anything exciting... So maybe they moved to another place that is unfindable, or your information is unfortunately not up to date.. After a few drinks on the terrace of G Club I was already feeling a bit tipsy. I was ready to call it a night and return alone to my hotel room. But on Grindr I got a message from a guy inviting me for a drink in Zag Club. It was a cute guy, with sexy body (see for yourself on picture below...). So it would be rude if me to say no. It was again a 6pack that seduced me... The guy said he had a good deal for me. Asking 3000 baht for a nice night ST. I replied by saying that was indeed a good deal. But not for me, for him. He laughed: "oh you know the normal prices, right"... So we agreed at 2000 baht. My hotel (Best Western Patong) is walking distance from Paradise Complex. But as we all know, Thais don't like to walk. So my guy insisted we would take his motorbike. Entering the hotel was no problem at all. Nobody asked anything, no registration needed so also no joiner fee. We decided to save water by shower together. In the shower his was eager, started kissing me straight away. And it didn't take long for him to be on his knees in front of me. We continued on the bed. Tasted everything on the menu and it was some time and money well spent. The guy is working in a 5 star resort in the North of the island. Well...he gave me a 5 star service too! 😁2 points

Very lucky man! I would love a find like him....! Off topic, but love to relive/share the memory: In Dubai, I met on Grindr a University student from Seychelles ... a basketball player, 6ft 3in tall lean, ripped, 9 inches of slightly curved cut cock. The bottom vein really bulged when hard, too thick to comfortably throat. I thought I would pay, but he wasn't money boy. Said he liked older men (white) because they could really take a good fuck. He fucked me like no one I ever was with. Mostly face down hammering into me at different angles, fuck for 10-15 minute, 5 minute break then back on top of me again. He did this 3 times, on the third he dumped his load in me, pulling out for the last shot or 2 to prove to me he had bred me then back in. I was a sore but happy bottom on three different days before I headed back to abu Dhabi.... (I was on prep and UAE tests workers coming into the country). I miss him. Never had any really memorable blacks in USA (money boys) they always came quick, got off and asked for their money.... I need to find a good top (or bottom) Need to go back to Colombia (great cocks) or Thailand (best bottoms) so bad!1 point

I like Baguio and I used to like Tagaytay for the cooler climate (in both places) however due to the Taal volcano Tagaytay is out of the question which is a pity as it was nice and close to Manila, Palawan is the other option I like but for the opposite reasons (nice and quiet and the people there are the friendliest I had met in the Philippines). Bonifacio Global City would be my choice if I was to choose to live in Manila, more up market and a much nicer part of the city.1 point

For Medellin from Tampa, you could also drive to Orlando and fly direct on Spirit… did a quick search and they have direct flights MCO-MDE in Nov from $460 roundtrip with all the “bundled” stuff included (checked bag, carryon, priority boarding etc). Potentially cheaper depending how light you pack. I know people rag on Spirit but for a sub-4 hour flight I personally wouldn’t hesitate.1 point

If ever there was a case for US Presidents not having the right to appoint judges, what has been happening over the last few months is surely it. The political and judicial system in the USA is pretty much fucked - as one or both is also in quite a number of other countries. With so many investigations going on against this liar, cheat and con man who follows that awful sleazebag Roy Cohn's playbook almost to the letter totally beats me. I thought this was a post about tips on Pattaya... Not a discussion about races, discrimination and who's right & who's wrong... I think there can be two opinions on almost all things... A bar I think has a nice atmosphere, somebody else will find too loud. A boy I think is sexy, somebody else wouldn't even pay attention too. And a Soi that somebody else finds dangerous, you maybe will feel completely safe in. Also it can be all about what time you are where. If somebody is in a Soi where a lot of motorbikes dangerously drive/race around doesn't have to mean somebody who comes there the next day has the same expierence. I see this forum as a place where people can agree but so can think different about things. Like hotel reviews where somebody writes its a horrible hotel while the next guest writes its a fab place to stay... It's all about perspective, expectations and feelings. I've read on this forum for example that Dreamboys in Bangkok would be the bar with the best boys. For me it was the least favourite place when I made my round in the Bangkok bars two weeks ago... I don't go and write other poster was wrong and he must have been making it up. I just give my own opinion about my visit. It's all about respect.1 point -
Yes. Other forums have suffered from this sort of thing; one of the attractions of this one is that members are respectful of each other even when they disagree. Its "tone" is supportive and informative which is why, I assume, the number of contributions is rising. Racist comments are posted to annoy, not to inform and in this respect , the poster concerned has been successful. I must admit that he annoyed me, anyway. But no more. I have read nothing that corroborates his claim that he lives in Pattaya. Nor have I read anything that is informative or supportive. Accordingly, I am ignoring him henceforward. ' There is a word in common usage to describe this sort of on-line behaviour.1 point

Kind of related to this topic - I was recently apartment/condo hunting with some real estate agents. It was difficult to find a decent apartment in front of Dongtan beach. I asked the agent why - when at night time perhaps only 20% of the condos are illuminated at night. I said, where are the other 80% of the condo owners? She replied, well have you heard of the PFC (Pattaya Flying Club) ? I said yes. She said that some of those dark condos that you see at night cannot be rented or sold because of Thai superstition of ghosts. I said, if we find one, can you help me get a monk to ask the ghosts to leave before moving in ?1 point -

I've written this before a few years ago. One reason I could not end it all by jumping from a high floor. I know from an experience I had around 25 years ago that there are times when time itself seems to move much more slowly. Having arrived at Shanghai's Hongqiao airport one evening I had stepped on to what I thought was terra firma. In fact someone had moved a small section of a grille at the side of the parking lot right where I was to get into a hotel car. My right foot went into the hole and I had quite a bad fall when I was certain I would break my leg. I didn't, but I remember so well how that fleeting 2 seconds or so seemed much more like 10 or more. So my fear would be that as I fell from a height, maybe time would again slow down. And what if I suddently realised half way down that I had forgotten to do something very important?1 point -

You enter at the cash desk and pay the entrance fee. Then you enter a very large locker room - the cute attendent will issue you a lock, key, and wrist band with your "lucky number" - which is used in the restaurant, pool side service, and with the 2 masseurs who are upstairs. The restaurant has a decent menu of both Western and Thai food. There are many types of smoothies available as well as beer and hard alcohol. There are 2 pools - one for swimming and bathing and the other is lije a giant circular jacuzzi. All alongside the 2 pools are chairs and lounge chairs to relax and watch the sexy guys. Alongside the pool area, slightly elevated is the gym enclosed in a large glass room where you can watch your favorite cutie workout. There was a steam room, sauna, bathrooms, and showers on the opposite side from the gym. Upstairs are the 2 masseurs - and yes extras are available for a fee. This fee needs to be paid directly to the masseur in cash. The standard massage fee is charged to your "lucky number" that was given to you when you entered. Above the massage floor are some cabin rooms for privacy, a dark room, bathrooms, and I saw more stairs that went up to an attic area - I did not venture up there. Then there is the Hotel section of this complex, which was closed off as it will open next month in October. So, action can be had by talking to the guys by the pool or in the gym. Or upstairs in the cabins or dark maze area. Also, you can arrange something with the masseurs - but for payment.1 point -

When I first read this, I read 40,000 per day. and could not understand why you asked the question (40 COP/day ~ 10usd ) is essentially minimum wage for government employees and very fair. but 40/hr seems too much without some fringe benefits. (Siam Roads is 99$ for a full day) I offered $50 a day (24/7) with of course transportation, food expenses for my guide/companion. He was very happy with that. ( I know from offering others $30 USD a day was good enough). In the end, with bonus and gifts ended up at 250COP/day which included some days he did not work. The going rate the locals (non professional) charge each other for short time sex is ~40,000 (according to my guide). My lowest short time was 80COP plus taxi 100COP + 20cop tip for great performance or about 30usd. Most grindr short time wanted 120COP for foreigner plus taxi (I rarely negotiate). short time Street whores in Plaza Botero was 30 to 40cop (for women reported to me by an experienced sexpatriot).1 point
