  1. Part 16: Trip to the south... Going to Phuket After a view nice days in Pattaya is was time to leave for Phuket. I've worked and lived in Khao Lak and Phuket for about 5 months a few years ago and I was curious how Phuket came out of the covid period. Also still an old colleague and his Thai boyfriend are living in Phuket so was looking forward to see them again too. U-Tapao Airport is very small with at this moment only one or two flight a day. Probabaly because of this, ALL restaurants and bars were closed at the airport. Before and afyer security. So if you fly from there, maybe good to have some drink with you and drink it before you go trough security check. You can go trough security just 15 minutes before boarding time as the airport is so small and nos busy at all. I wouldn't be afraid of airlines cancelling flight from U-Tapao because of lack of passengers. Both flights that departed from the airport when I was there looked well occupied. My own flight to Phuket, with a propellor plane, was almost completely full. Flying with Bangkok Airways means a meal/snack and drinks are included. What I actually needed as everything at the airport itself was closed. Phuket Airport (and the rest of the touristic areas on the island) are known for their taxi maffia. The government is trying to do something about it. There are now maximum taxi fares in place from the airport. Every taxi tooth and booth is now actually charging the same: 800 baht from airport to Patong. You can also follow signs "taxi meter" to the very end of the parking area. If you're lucky there is a taxi meter waiting there. As that mind turn out a bit cheaper. While I was in my way to the taxi meter parking, a drives offered me the ride for 650 baht which I agreed on. I also checked Bolt. They charge around 500 baht but Bolt taxis are officially not allowed to pick up customers at Phuket Airport and I wanted to avoid any nasty situations. I booked the Best Western Patong Hotel. Because it walking distance from Paradise Complex but on a more quiet road. And it has a rooftop pool for some afternoon chilling. And for 790 baht per night it was priced good. Pool at Best Western Patong I'm evening it was time to head to Paradise Complex to see what's left from the gay area. In one street good old Zag Club is still there, even bigger than before. Next to it is G Club. Both have drag shows that you can watch while sitting on their terraces. As they do the show on the street. Zag later continues their show inside. It was very busy at Zag. Between their shows the crowd in dancing and flirting. With some shirtless staff joining in. Crowd is a good mix of falang, Asian, young and older. Everybody enjoying themself and each other... Very good and nice atmosphere. Having a good night out in Zag Club There are two other smaller bars in the street but they actually didn't have any customers when I passed by. The good old boat bar went bankrupt and is gone. There used to be also two go go bars in Paradise, with boys wearing numbered tags that could be offed. But they also didn't surivive covid lockdowns. The owner of Zag Club bought most of the buildings on the street. To avoid any competition coming in. Some of the buildings he is owning are already empty for many years. They are up for sale, but apparently he doesn't want to sell to anybody planning to start a bar or club. Other bars, like G Club, are struggling a bit. For example: Zag is suppose to do their street show until 10pm after which G Club can start theirs, to try to get also some customers in. But Zag just continues their street show till way after 10pm, giving G Club less fair chance to take some business. The bars are next to each other, so they can't do street show at same time because music will reverberate disturbingly. G Club terrace Because of the dominant presence of Zag, that club was full of people while G club only had handful customers on the terrace. If you're coming to Phuket I would suggest to also support the business in G Club a bit and don't forgot to also sit down at their terrace for a drink. If only for the cute and young owner / manager. Their streetshow will start as soon as Zag take theirs inside. In the road parallel of the bar street, there are a few gay massage places. Will check them out later.

  2. Part 17: Once you go black... I remembered an old post on this forum about African guys on Grindr in Bangkok: And indeed when I was in Silom Bangkok I also did see some African guys on the app. I didn't pay much attention as I did see they advertise as top. The guy that was staying in my hotel... But now I'm in Patong Phuket I did see one of these African guys appearing very close to me on Grindr. I was intrigued and started a chat. The guy was over from Bangkok for a few days and was staying in same hotel in Patong as me. And he told me he was versatile. He asked a bit more than the Asian moneyboys, but for the sake of research for this forum I thought I might have to give it a try. He first asked 5000 baht, that I could get down to 3000 quiet easily. Few minutes later a knock on my door and a very goodlooking dark guy entered my room. He was very polite and spoke perfect English. Was nice to have a bit of conversation. We took a shower together where things started to heat up quickly. I soaped his muscled body. Some kissing and mutual sucking. He did indeed live up to the stereotype: a great xxl black cock that I could not throat completely. Nice expierence for once.... Wow. Not sure how much nudity is alloud on this forum, but I wanna give you and idea by posting one of the less explicit pictures he had sent me: We dried each other bodies before we went to the bed and had some hot fun... It was truly an afternoon delight. Went to spent some time at the rooftop pool of my hotel before two friends picked me up for drinks and dinner at a restaurant on Patong Hill with beautiful view and sunset.

  5. I just started my freshly new retirement life 1.5 weeks ago here in Jomtien and I am loving it. My retirement dream was to retire with a view onto the sea and to be near a vibrant gay life and beach. Jomtien offers all that and more.

  7. At least some boys in Freshboys are slightly muscled. Not only skinny boys. On the two nights I was there, they had quite a diverse group of boys on stage. Big chances there is something of your taste there... (unless you really wanna go for Tawan muscle guys, that's not on offer in Freshboys). Number 20 was absolutely very good and nice. But somehow waiter keeps coming back in my mind and fantasies. Lol... Did you already go back for nr 19? So guys, actually when they charged 3000 baht (for fun without fucking) they weren't overcharging me? You guys think I should go back to Pattaya and give it another try for 3000? 🤔 The show ik Zag doesn't become sexual at all. It's just ladyboys with sexy dancers. And some shirtless boys walking around. I just tried (will be in the next report) and can confirm it's possible to take a guest to Best Western Patong during nighttime without any problems, fee or questions asked.... Because I knew about the Phuket taxi maffia I made sure I was in walking distance from the gay area. We all know things can be more expensive in certain areas in Thailand. As the boys in Bangkok in general are more expensive than in Pattaya, the taxis in Phuket are more expensive than in Bangkok... At least its good the my out a maximum fare in place for taxis from the airport. So you know what to expect...

  8. A factor may be that a taxi travelling from Suvarnabhumi to the centre of Bangkok, is more likely to be able to pick up a subsequent fare than one travelling to somewhere like Patong. I think too many licenses were issued in Phuket(possibly the sale of licenses benefited someone) so that the drivers need to recoup when they finally get a fare!

  9. I checked the distance from Phuket airport to Best Western in Patong. It's 40km. They are charging 800 baht. I also checked the distance from Suvarnabhumi airport to Patpong. It's 36 km, and a typical taxi ride (minus tolls) would be around 400 baht. Distance for distance, Phuket taxis are charging twice what Bangkok taxis charge, and that's only when the authorities step in to impose a "maximum". Good thing you're staying within walking distance of the gay area.

  10. Customarily, the practice is like this: Offing a waiter and removing him from the available staff in a bar (not that bar waiters have that much to do anyway) is usually discouraged through a higher bar fine (off fee), not through imposing a higher tip for the boy, which anyway should be money going exclusively to him.

  12. What do you want? Dancing girls and balloons? It offers the widest seat and ample privacy. I want function over glitz. And when I fart I don't worry about people on either side of me. I don't think they're necessarily wealthy. The are older and that's how they choose to allocate their funds. My total flying time (3 flights) to BKK is nearly 24 hours. The first domestic segment I fly economy. If I fly between SE Asian cities I fly economy. I picked up four compression fractures to my spine in a work accident long ago so long hauls in coach would be quite uncomfortable. .

My needs on the place are simple, access to good medical, a place with plenty to do and that can be used as a base for travel and with that good internet for studies.

    Cruising

I just wanted to tell about a very interesting encounter I recently had - at one of those ptt gas station bathrooms (or to put it in my British English: a loo at a ptt service station). The urinals at those places are quite conducive to cruising, depending on how often the cleaning ladies go round. A few days ago, a young, I would say around 21 or 22 year old guy caught my attention. He walked off and encouraged me to follow. We went into a bush nearby and... wow.. had a lot of fun. He was amazing. That's something I won't forget for a long time !! I got his Line but no reply yet.. he didn't seem gay to be honest, perhaps just liked (somewhat older) farang men.

  19. if you had hots for guy , my answer is yes , as long as you understand you were milked for money in process. If I think about my experiences in similar situations I'd say in most cases was actually worth it , even if in two cases it turned very costly because I kind of got hooked and repeated feast few more times. But you live only once.

  20. Part 13: First night in Pattaya Yesterday evening after dinner I made a walk in Jomtien complex. And soon I did see confirmed what others already wrote in this forum a few times: the guys trying to get you on their terraces are more on the small, slim twinky side. Not realy my regular taste. I like my boys to be more hunk like, with preferably some muscles on it. So walking in Jomtien was for me not like entering a candy shop. But the atmosphere was good, the boys very friendly. The show in The Venue was already in full swing. But I was on my way to M2M because their show was going to start in a few minutes. They have daily shows now (except for Mondays) at 10pm. It was a busy Sunday night. Around 85% of the seats were taken when I came in, and after me some more guests came in. I ordered a rum and coke. But it was undrinkable. Way too strong. The colour suggested some coke was in there, but tasted almost pure alcohol. Nothing that can't be solved. I just ordered another coke on the side. I have to confess I was actualy very entertained by the show at M2M. It probabaly also helps when you know what to expect. And I knew I was not going to see any gay erotica or big dicks. They had 5 ladyboys and 7 or 8 boy dancers doing different acts. The show lasted for a good 90 minutes. Part of the cast What was this strange language of the songs of a few of their acts? Was it Russian? Would it be more political correct to skip these? The combination of ladyboys with some background dancers worked good for me. The dancing boys were good eye candy. One of them, the cutest one in my eyes, even was the front man in one act. When he started playbacking "What do you want from me?" by Adam Lambert I could think of a few thinks he could do for me... Lol My favourite of the show... After the show finished the cast went outside on the street so the audience had the chance to snap some pictures or have a talk. My favourite dancer was unfortunately busy talking with another (female) fan... When I walked passing the different bars again I found that some terraces were having quite some customers, while others were almost empty. The boyish boys were still present trying to convince me to take a drink at their establishment. But I had made other arrangements already with a guy from Grindr coming to visit me in my hotel room to have a deep discussion about current affairs... 😜😊

  21. Part 12: Arriving in Pattaya To be clear: I off course mean that they fly from Chiang Mai to U-Tapao Airport (also known as Pattaya Airport, but still about 1hr drive to Jomtien). I arranged Mike Pattaya taxi service to pick me up from the airport (800 baht) and when I arrived his driver was waiting for me with a sign with my name on it. Unfortunately his car did not start. Another driver came to help. They used jumper cables to start the engine and within 10 minutes we were on our way. In Pattaya I always stayed close to Boyztown the precious times and actually never explored Jomtien. Yes, I did take the songtaew to go to the gay beach (Dongtan Beach), but did not go to the Jomtien complex bars before. I decided that needed to change. And because forum members here had good experiences at The Agate, I booked my room there. Like others wrote before; I got a great deal booking directly with the hotel. Only 1000 baht per night without breakfast. Much cheaper than booking it via booking.com or Agoda. Why I skipped the Jomtien complex till now? Probably because Boyztown could give me everything I needed. My taste of boys is more on the masculine / muscular side. And I always read that Jomtien caters more for the lovers of slim/skinny boys. But as I’m open to try new things, and if needed Boyztown is only a short ride away, I’m staying in Jomtien this time. First impression of Agate is very good. Friendly staff at check in and goodlooking room with comfortable bed. Since I'm in Thailand I've also had beds that were a bit on the hard side, but the bed in Agate feels good. While showering I was thinking why is there this little bench in the shower? I could only think about one thing: so that a boy can sit on there while giving you a blowjob in the shower.... Something to try out the next days.... Lol Staying in the middle of the gay area is nice. But it can also be a little annoying when you have to go pass by pushy massageboys at Soda Massage every time you go to the beach, 7-eleven or dinner. Specially when a few of their boys already chatted with you on Grindr and the fact you have shown them "some interest" makes them directly think you want massage today with them... Good that I quickly found a shortcut: via the garage of Agate you reach the main road directly, without having to pass by massage parlours or bars. Can be nice to know if you just want to leave the Jomtien complex without being hassled. Or if you want to bring a boy from Boyztown back to Agate without having to walk with him trough Jomtien complex (I've heard some boys don't like parade trough the complex). Jomtien beach I went for a walk on the beach and noticed how pretty Jomtien beach actually is. With (palm)trees growing ON the beach. Giving it the real tropical atmosphere. Hopefully the weather in the next days will be good so I get the chance to actually lay on the beach an afternoon. Relax, read. After dinner it was time to make a round in Jomtien to get a first impression of the nightlife here. But I will write about that later.

  22. Part 11: Up north Yes guys, I'm still in Thailand. The reason I've been quiet in my trip report, is because I was behaving like a tourist up north. Meaning doing some siteseeing instead of boy hunting. And I suppose you guys are more interested in the boy hunting part of my month in Thailand than lots of pictures of the beautiful places I've visited. So... That's why. I flew to Chiang Rai where I was meeting my driver and guide Woody at the airport. He is from Chiang Mai but drove to Chiang Rai so he could first show me around there for two days before driving to Chiang Mai together. Woody was actually recommended to me by @bkkmfj2648, who used his services on a previous trip. He also advertises on Siamroads. Woody praying in a cave we visited In Chiang Rai Woody was showing me some temples and "the black house". A museum in a few original Thai houses. The artist had an obsession with dead animals and cocks... I couldn't let the opportunity in the museum pass by to make this picture: Woody is a very friendly and cute boy. Well... He's 38 now so don't think we can call him a boy still? We all get older... Lol He and his partner met when they both were working in a massage place. Besides being a massage boy he also was already guide and driver for tourists. They both retired from the massage job, but are now running a gay massage shop together in Chiang Mai. With lots of nice boys: Classic House Massage. Check out their website. Aways better to first contact them via line for up to date pictures of their staff and so they could arrange your favourite boy to be at the shop when you come. Classic House Massage in Chiang Mai Woody told me that business in his massage shop was getting a littlebit better, but still far far behind from what it used to be pre-covid. Till now most of the clients are Thai tourist. The Falang still not coming it seems. Other gay-orientated businesses in Chiang Mai also start opening up. Ram Bar is having their daily ladyshow again at 9h30pm. Its a nice and fun show. Including male backup dancers. Specially in the weekend this can get busy. But big part of the audience was straight couples just having a fun night out at a ladyboy show. Also Adams Apple opend again. But I didn't go. I was not in the mood of traveling all the way to the other side of town to probably find out the place is empty. As that chance was big as the evenings I was in Chiang Mai it was raining. And from my experiences in Bangkok I know what that means for the amount of guests in boybars... Show in Ram Bar Did nothing naughty happen up north? Of course... But not much actually. One night I invited a muscleboy over to my hotel room after chatting with him on Grindr. A bit older (37yrs), muscles... He could work in Tawan in Bangkok. That type of guy. He asked only 600 baht so I did not even try to negotiate the price... He was a great deep sucker and was also a willing bottom. So that was a good night... A few times a week there are direct flights between Chiang Mai and Pattaya with Thai Lion Air. And that's the next destination I choose for my Thailand trip. Probabaly some more to update you about in Pattaya than I had the last days up in the North...

  23. From Channel News ASIA SINGAPORE: Passengers flying out of Changi Airport will have to pay more in airport fees and levies from Nov 1 as the aviation industry continues to recover after the COVID-19 pandemic. Travellers on flights departing from Changi Airport currently pay a fee of S$52.30 - comprising S$35.40 in passenger service and security fee (PSSF), S$6.10 in aviation levy and S$10.80 in airport development levy. From Nov 1 to Mar 31 next year, the amount will go up to a total of S$59.20. That's after the passenger service and security fee increases to S$40.40 and the aviation levy rises to S$8. The passenger service and security fee will subsequently go up again in phases from Apr 1, 2023, and Apr 1, 2024. Announcing the charges on Thursday (Sep 15), the Civil Aviation Authority of Singapore (CAAS) and Changi Airport Group (CAG) noted that planned increases were announced in 2018, but they were suspended due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

  25. who says I'm poor? Oh, you are right , me above, LOL Did you type your answer or just copy and paste my comment above? Dying to know Actually Thailand is still very affordable destination minus whoring of course but even that is still economical particularly if one restrict himself to no more than 3 boys a day. I had good comparison last winter. Almost month in Thailand followed by 1 week Caribbean cruise about month later. Removing only money spent on boys in bars and massages that month , tourist part, flights included , even if I stay for a change in quite a few decent hotels because of good rates they offered, I cost me only 600 $ more to spent month in Thailand than that weeklong cruise.

  26. I have posted this many times - yes, I would - without the slightest hesitation or second thought. I love living in Pattaya and wouldn't dream of living anywhere else. I'm living where my first choice for a holiday would be. And for me, that has nothing to do with the bars and availability of sex. I also have never been interested in luxury living. I don't need or even want hotels such as Le Negresco. Even in Bangkok I am perfectly happy staying at the Malaysia Hotel - a place some think of as a dump. I truly believe if I were ever fortunate enough to become a billionaire I would still prefer to live exactly as I do now. But at least I wouldn't have to worry about that fucking 800,000 baht in a Thai bank account requirement . . . That's me. People have to make their own decisions. I've known my share of people who also chose to live in Pattaya, grew to hate it, and left. That is why I always say when people first come to live in Pattaya they should make sure to leave themselves an escape route in case it doesn't work out. I've also known people who wanted to get out, but burnt all their bridges and now have no place to go. Best piece of advice I can offer is to learn to speak as much Thai as possible, even before going to live in Thailand. The ability to speak the language is an enormous help. Again, speaking only for myself, I have never even tried to learn to read it. There is more than enough English that makes reading it unnecessary (for me). And it doesn't take long to pick up on the way most Thais who can speak some English do speak it. Many of us call it "Thainglish". Maybe one difference I would choose - and at my stage of the game I'm getting very close to deciding to do it - is hire a maid (or houseboy). I'm getting tired of doing all my own chores - everything from doing my own laundry to picking up after my dog. The idea of a maid sounds better every time I hear it.

  27. From the Thaiger / Bangkok Post So many businesses in the entertainment sector were flattened by the Covid-19 global pandemic. But with tourism beginning to pick up, and sunny predictions for the fourth quarter after a rained-out third quarter of 2022, theme parks and water parks are pumping money into a flood of new attractions in Thailand in the coming months. Current theme parks have been revamping and remodelling to be ready for when the tourist are pouring back in and some big companies, both domestic and international, are launching brand new tourist attractions. They’re hopeful that Thailand will see a successful high season and that they can bring in billions of tourists to enjoy their water parks and theme parks. They’re hopeful that Thailand will see a successful high season and that they can bring in billions of tourists to enjoy their water parks and theme parks. Here’s a rundown of some projects in the works scheduled to be opened over the next few months. CARNIVAL MAGIC, PHUKET Thailand’s largest theme park operator, running parks under the Safari World umbrella, is set to unveil its newest project, the Carnival Magic theme park in just a few days on September 20. The park is set on the sprawling 100 rai plot of land near Kamala Beach just next to the Phuket FantaSea, which they intend to update as well when tourism makes a complete recovery. The Carnival Magic theme park invested 6.6 billion baht to create a design in the tradition of Thai carnivals frequently found in moving night markets and temple fairs along with parades and activities but with a modern twist to implement new technologies. They hope to welcome as many as two million guests in the next year and estimate that foreigners will account for about 70% of their clientele. AQUAVERSE MOVIE THEME PARK, PATTAYA Sony Pictures Entertainment has invested in developing 35 rai in Pattaya under its subsidiary Columbia Pictures and a partnership with Amazon Falls. Picking Thailand to create its first theme park, and choosing Pattaya because of its proximity to U-Tapao Airport, high-speed trains, and easy transportation, Columbia Pictures’ Aquaverse is set to open on October 12. The attraction will combine elements of theme parks and water parks and is aimed at attracting visitors of all ages with water features, land attractions, themed zones and restaurants, entertainment and live shows, and special sets and merchandise. Areas themed on their movies such as Hotel Transylvania, Jumanji, Surf’s Up, and Ghostbusters are full of unique waterslides and wet activities. A second phase will expand indoor activities over the next 10 years if tourism recovers to pre-pandemic levels of 20 million visitors to Pattaya per year. One million tourists per year are estimated will visit and the attraction plans to reach that number with global promotions utilising its network that reaches 80 countries. The theme park in Pattaya is hoped to be a launching pad for similar attractions around the world based on expanding themes from their famous movies and TV shows. BANGKOK WORLD, BANGKOK Finally, on November 25, Siam Amazing Park’s parent company will open a new attraction right next door: Bangkok World. The new park is hoping to draw one and a half to two million visitors per year, both foreign and domestic. After 3 billion baht of investment, the entertainment complex will stretch across 70 rai and be almost like a mega mall. The sprawling side-by-side theme parks will expand with the new park featuring restaurants and street food, cultural performances and dinner theatres. It will also support local businesses and products by opening more than 500 shops using Thailand’s One Tambon, One Product programme that selects a superior product from local areas to support and promote.

  30. Australia, but I'm in my 30s so retirement is just a distant dream, I do plan to work in Asia when the timing is right and if I find a good fit for me. My working abroad plan was Hong Kong a few years ago, but that's not a good option anymore so possibly Singapore or Bangkok. I am in a very specialised field of work and I have the option to work anywhere in the world, but I haven't got the courage to pull the pin and risk my very comfortable life for whatever might be on the other side yet.

  32. Well, I don't "deserve" anything, as I have no control over fares - I'm at the mercy of the airlines. I certainly didn't do anything to "deserve" such a ridiculous fare. I wouldn't "surely die" if I had to sit in coach (economy), just like I'd surely survive if I had to eat fish fingers for dinner rather than something nicer. It's a lifestyle choice. Olddaddy, I never give a thought to how long I've got left as I've still got a way to go before I hit my late 70s. I also believe it's no use dying with lots of unspent money in the bank so I don't have any trouble going out and spending it. I'm a shopaholic, afterall. But I want value for money. That's all I think about before I bring out the credit card. I'm trying to tell myself that the value is there because I'll get to catch up with my friends in Tokyo and enjoy our traditional "bounenkai" (忘年会) after having missed out the past few years. It's why I invited a friend, as I wanted him to enjoy it with me. I'm still working hard on convincing myself.

  38. ignore them politely, do not engage in conversation, do not admit ( where applicable ) it your first time in Thailand or their bar. If they ask you anything, answer briefly without elaborating. If they ask you which boy you want tell them you like girls better. I do this all the time, nobody believes but everybody gets clear signal 'leave me alone". When nothing works stronger statement like ' I'm Ok , I don't need anything " or more sophisticated ' Me no speak English' may work'. In bars with twinks you may also say " I like only big boys like In Tawan", conversly in Tawan tell them you like small boys and if they show you their resident twink tell them he is still too big for you. if you visiting bar with somebody i.e. another forum member tell them you are with boyfriend. Never buy them a drink unless YOU want to. They are not rude , just opportunistic , if they sense we are weak in knees they exploit it. Don't be rude as at some point you may need their help, for translation for example. Then you turn all smiles but only then

  39. I wouldn’t worry about it. Sounds like you’re not. You’re delivering a package, a niche theme, not the total package accompanied by the soundtrack of Love Story. The genre wording is not a bait&switch, unlike a lot of profiles that don’t deliver what they describe or mostly just post links to other profiles for purchase consideration. The early foundation germane to the project was clear: persuading escorts oriented to discretion to be filmed doing your hole, and the idea growing inside of you expanding outside of you. It was always the fuck you’re facin’, not the face you’re fuckin’.

  40. I hope waiter and papasan got in an argument later about how papasan avoided waiter from earning 2000 baht last night because of the greediness of papasan... 💸

  41. now you know why I try to keep all those papasans / mamasans at distance and only allow them to interfere when I need transation. Waiter had no option other than refuse your offer since if he accepted it , papasan would be losing face. I wonder how much of that 3000 had you accepted would go to papasan. My educated guess is 1000. 2000 for short time in Pattaya is still very generous so I'm glad you did not accept that extortionate offer.

  42. Use of masks is a turn-off for me, and I think many others. There has to be a theme, a story line in order for the use of masks to work. They didn't work in the example in the OP.

    What do you think?

Not to be a negative Nancy, look at ways of keeping yourself safe, legally. I think it was Jorge's Gang, don't remember exactly, that had problems some years ago in South America. Someone that has several porn websites explained to me a long time ago how you have to distance yourself, the person, from being involved in the hosting or making the content. Having several shell type companies, one that hosts, the other that sells/displays and the other a content maker....something along those lines to stay clear of trouble. Nothing might happen, but don't let a little fun fuckery get you into hot water with some religious zealots and banned from the DR.

  47. Merely for the sake of accuracy, her father King George VI was the second son of King George V. His older brother was the philadering but hugely popular Prince Edward. He had had several affairs, usually with older married women. His father despaired of him and was disgusted by his affairs. In 1931 one of his romantic relationships introduced him to Mrs. Wallis Simpson, an American who had divorced her first husband. Edward fell head over heels in love with her. By 1934 she was his mistress. None of the establishment expected the affair to last much longer than the others. It did. As George V became ill, the royal court and the government became alarmed. The British Secret Service had her investigated. One report claimed she had spent time in Shanghai (true) where she learned some special sexual techniques (uncertain). One story, true or not, was that she perfected what is termed the "Shanghai Squeeze" or the "Singapore Grip". This being a respectably gay forum, I will not go into detail! She certainly exercised a very strong influence over Edward. When George V died, there was concern in the government. Wallis announced that she would divorce for the second time and a mock adultery by her husband was arranged. As King, Edward announced he would marry Wallis once the divorce was final. Now the government went into panic mode. The monarch of the UK is also head of the Anglican Church which in those days did not permit marriage to a divorcee if the divorced spouse was still alive. There was also fear that Edward would interfere in the business of government (not permitted in the UK) and would share state secrets with the domineering Wallis. The government gave the King an ultimatum - get rid of Wallis or abdicate. By all accounts, his brother who became King George VI was a diligent, hard working and much loved monarch. But he was a heavy smoker and suffered from cancer. Unknown to most he had had a lung removed. The then Princess Elizabeth stood in for him many times, especially on planned overseas trips. In 1952 she and her husband were in Kenya at the start of a long trip that was to take them onwards to Australia and New Zealand. They had just spent a night at the Treetops hotel when she learned that her father had died. Elizabeth was now Queen. The couple then flew immediately back to London.

  48. Agate's prices at the moment are good value. I paid 1000 pn last month; and I'm paying 1,200 for my next trip (for which I cannot wait!) in November. No breakfast though; we ate at Zing. Charming staff there too! Agate's public areas are 4* plus, if that's important to you. They are to us. P and I would gaze at and appreciate all the exhibits in the glass cases in the corridors. Other Agate guests will know what I mean! And its two pools are a blessing if sprogs appear.... P and I always had the sea-water one to ourselves. As I always say, don't use Agoda or Booking; book direct with the hotel. Much cheaper.
