Richard's death wasn't sudden. His health had been going downhill for months. I last saw him at a Christmas dinner a few months before and he looked in bad shape even then. He did have some of his former employees helping him and a few friends looking in on him. As far as I know he never went to a hospital. He had no insurance and very little money. He died in his condo. Sadly, Richard died essentially broke. If you are interested, Richard's Facebook page still exists: https://www.facebook.com/richard.burk.351 Thailand does have very good assisted living facilities. Including room, meals, and care they average around 45,000 baht per month. Not bad considering at current exchange rates that amounts to a little less that US $1300 per month - and these are very nice places, not dumps. A couple things I do know about dying in Thailand - If you die in hospital, no autopsy is required. If you die anywhere else, an autopsy is required. No matter where you die in Thailand, it is my understanding these autopsies are done only in Bangkok. Also, hospitals do offer living wills. You can designate a surrogate to make medical decisions for you if you become incompetent to do so. You can also specify DNR options and organ donor options. I once asked the American Embassy what their involvement is if an American dies. I was told the first thing they do is find your passport. They notify your nearest living relative. They check to see if you have a will. They have to sign off on releasing your body for funeral, shipping back to home country, or whatever your will and family specify. Any other involvement is on an "if necessary" case by case basis. As for what happens when a farang dies in Thailand, you might be interested in this article: https://thepattayanews.com/2022/08/16/special-feature-one-a-day-part-one-what-happens-when-a-foreigner-dies-in-thailand/6 points

Ok, now after the amazing night and long sleep I finally dragged myself from the comfort of the bed and down to meet my ride to Pattaya. As usual, I booked Nam's taxi the day before and my driver was waiting for me just before our scheduled time. 1200 baht and a 2-hour drive from my Bangkok hotel to East Suites. Pattaya I had already arranged my first rendezvous from Bangkok on Grindr, so when I arrived I had a quick shower and was deep in warm embrace within my first hour of being in Pattaya, off to a very good start! After a while of relaxing as night was falling, I decided to go for a walk around Jomtien Complex. Wow! it is very busy compared to April, I wouldn't say as busy as Songkran customer-wise, but definitely more guys/staff. It looks a lot less dreary with all of the lights on, and some new bars have popped up around the sois. I decided to step into a Bu Bu bar, I didn't remember being there next to Dick's Cafe in April, but they had menus out the front and some nice welcoming staff. So I'll stop in for food and a drink, it turned out the menus were from the small restaurants across the soi. I went for the Thai menu made by Sofia's Thai, oh boy it was delicious! This Chicken Cashew was hands down the best I've had. I went back another night and tried some more dishes, it was consistently great food. I found Bu Bu was a good place to sit and order from, giving a good view of the edge of Soda Massage and the comings and goings of the guys headed to work in the bars. As for the massage shops in the complex. There's the small shop (I can't recall the name) on the Thappraya side of Dick's Cafe, only 2-4 staff, but they looked more muscular and suspect better at actual massage. Soda Massage has a bright new sign above it, hard to count numbers but I think around 15+ staff, a mix of twinks and twunks. Then the massage around the corner toward Agate (again, can't remember the name), around 10-15 guys mixed twinks, twunks, hunks. Some very hot guys here as well. The Jomtien Complex bars between them had a LOOOOT of guys, I won't try to give estimates but I'd say something for everyone can be found there. Closing time is around 1-2am, then just as during April the party moves down to the beach where groups will sit around with drinks and food until the early hours. Well, I'm back in Pattaya and I know there's a little gogo bar over in Sunee screaming my name, so at around 9pm I head over to Winner. 60baht and 5 minutes by motosai I'm headed down the darkened Sunee plaza with the shining lights and usual squeals of the boys from Winner filling the air. My happy place. Now I won't sugar coat it too much, Winner has been struggling through covid. I often sat and talked with the owner at length in April and this trip about life and the bar, he's an absolute gem in my eyes, he cares for the staff and they care for him. However, there's a problem.. he is in a bit of a catch-22 situation, trying to keep enough staff to meet the customer demand without bleeding salary money in the quiet months after such a long time of having to keep the doors open with savings. Current guys in the bar is around 6-8, and they are all fantastic friendly cute guys (in white little speedos), but if it's a busy night and guys are being off'd it can be slim pickings. Get there early at 8-9 pm if you want to have the best shot at seeing all of them there. They don't tend to stand around on the podiums too long, they will mingle with the customers and run around the soi half naked to the food carts, so if you pop your head in and see an empty stage don't fret. I spent most nights at Winner this trip, drinking and joking around with the guys, they're just good fun. The drink prices are cheap and no one is ever pushy, so I was content. I did have 3-4 of the guys in my sights, but I only ended up with 2 and repeating the second for a couple of nights. I didn't make it to Boyztown at night, but when I did pass through on one early afternoon it looked a lot better. Ambiance is open again by the look of it, and all of the bars were setting up chairs out the front. Next trip I will dive back into BT and see what I can find in Toy Boys and the rest of this area. Time just wasn't on my side this trip. I had daily massages at Soda Massage and the occasional Grindr meetup, performance was good on all accounts, not a single dud this time in Pattaya. I'm reluctant to discuss this much, but I'll mention it. With the new laws regarding the decriminalization of the green flower, I decided to have a look at the offerings. I found the best shop was a dispensary one soi over from Sunee toward Tuckom called World Wide Weed (WWW), big selection and a friendly owner. I read some bad reviews about the shop(s) on walking street, maybe be cautious with them. If you do partake there are some rules to remember, they can't sell prerolled but they have papers and anything else you need. You cannot smoke in public or in bars, it is a 25k baht fine if you smoke it on the beach, but your hotel balcony is ok or the dispensary has a dedicated space to sample your purchase. 750baht/g for most of the selection, allegedly the quality is very good. I'm slowly trying every hotel in the Jomtien Complex, this time it was East Suites turn. The master room was very spacious, the price was really good, but no elevator, there was some noise pollution from the bars until 1 or 2 am, and I had to chase around a cockroach one night. Agate is still winning in my current standings, but Zing Resort is possibly next on my list to try. TT money exchange down Thappraya towards the beach still has the best exchange rates in the area, comparable to the airport basement. I think that's about all, I took Nam's taxi back to Swampy and check-in was fine but my flights were packed full again. A successful week that felt a lot longer., thanks for reading.6 points

Unexpected reunions and few shattered dreams - 22nd trip to Thailand in May 2022

In Bangkok two and a half years later, finally! After dinner with a couple of friends - at an amazing new Thai place behind Central Embassy, but clearly catering to the hi-so crowd - we hit Patpong, but the place was a bit of a ghost town on a Thursday evening. It was a melancholic experience, the memory of Patpong and Soi Twilight at their rowdiest still fresh in the mind. We poked our heads into Fresh Boys first, where there were a number of, indeed, fresh-looking boys prancing around on stage in their skimpies with feather boas, with several more sitting around waiting for custom. It was dead quiet though, there didn't seem to be *any* patrons in there. We took off. Dream Boy was next. We were in time for the nightly festivities, but, again, the show seemed to be a pale shadow of its former self. Ditto the repertoire of boys available. As my friend - a long-time farang resident of the city - put it, standards have slipped quite a bit. Many of the boys seemed average-looking at best, and in several cases somewhat less than. The performance consisted of a couple of drag numbers, and a f**king portion that featured a pair of extremely limber young lads attached at the c*ck and ass, and moving around on stage as an attached duo like the proverbial beast with two backs. It was definitely the highlight. Two lovelies caught my eye, but we moved on to Tawan. A shift of home later, Tawan feels like a new entity, housed in a space half the original size. There was at least a decent crowd, including two women. (?!) Didn't recognize a single face from pre-pandemic days, from the wait staff to the guys. Looks like there was a complete overhaul. Ah well ... Did end up offing a new face, with a brilliant smile and a rocking bod. He turned out to be er, less straight than he claimed to be in the bar, which was was good news for me. This one might be a regular. Encountering post-Covid Patpong was a bit of shock to the system, but, hey, at least there's a Patpong to come back to! Hallelujah for small mercies.2 points -
With respect, I don't think that this is of anyone's interest. All I will say is that this Thai man is not a visitor or a sex tourist. He has spent all his life living in Thailand apart from vacations and business travel. As with most people living in their own home country, he has close friends. One whom he trusts implicitly having known her and her family for six or seven decades looks after his legal affairs as well as his funds and allocates them appropriately.2 points

I stayed at the Avani in 2019 and it's quite a nice hotel. I did not have a chance to test out the joiner policy as I "ate out" so to speak, however I did engage the services of a legit massage guy during daytime hours who registered at reception and they sent him up. No joiner fee was paid, probably because it was during the day I guess. Probably unimportant, but I ordered a pizza from room service (but the pizza comes from a nearby pizza place, not from the hotel) and when it arrived it was absolutely massive. I was proud of myself for eating it all myself lol.2 points

According to Agoda, Bangkok is the most popular international destination while Pattaya comes in at eighth place. Agoda made the findings after having compiled data on room booking made via the platform from May to August this year. Other destinations Agoda said were among the top five most popular among its users were, in respective order, Jeju island of South Korea; Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia; Tokyo, Japan; and Seoul, South Korea. Thailand’s Pattaya City was the 8th most popular destination, owing to it being a seaside city renowned for its nightlife scene. https://www.pattayamail.com/thailandnews/agoda-says-bangkok-is-top-destination-for-tourists-worldwide-pattaya-8th-most-popular-407103 ========================== From Pattaya News More than four million foreign tourists have arrived in Thailand since full country reopening in January The Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) on Wednesday, August 17th, reported that the total number of foreign tourists arriving in Thailand has reached four million since the full country reopening on January 1st. TAT Governor Yuthasak Supasorn told the press that after the government had relaxed its measures and registrations for foreign tourists in January, it was reported that a total of 4,015,504 tourists had visited the country from January 1st to August 16th, reflecting a gradual improvement in the tourism industry. “TAT expected that as of August 31st, the number of foreign tourists would reach 4.5 million people and about 40,000+ people would arrive in the country per day,” the governor added. TAT has kept its target of 10 million foreign tourists by 2022, with an expected number of foreign tourists of at least 1 million per month between August and September. An average increase of 1.5 million people per month is also predicted in the fourth quarter, from October to December.2 points

possible as in words of my grandmother " in old furnace , devil set a fire" although there are questions about extend of both of disability and what "hit on' actually meant. Your comment reminded me a scene from Tawan from few years ago. Very old and frail gentleman aided by walker and few Tawan own boys showed up and sat down inviting boys to come and let him a feel of their jewels for a tip. His face expression was one of happiness I remember to this day. It was actually quite spirit uplifting2 points -
And the girls from the Beer Bars of Soi 6 and elsewhere will also say that not only do they not have a Thai BF, they 'no like Thai man'. They will also tell you that Thai men have small cocks, that they like old men, and that they positively love 'pompui man', etc etc. 🤣😂 And all this on your first short-time with them! 😅 They all, boys and girls, tell us whatever they think we want to hear. It's all a game, albeit a fun one2 points

Sounds like Dui, he has told me the same before. He is like a machine, but never fails to 'rise' to the challenge, and never disappoints either in the bar or in the room. He is top of my list to see again next month. My BF and I often take him and his GF out for Thai buffet late at night; she brings the baby too! 🤣 Dui is a condom boy, as are most in that bar. Yes Sunee can be dark, with the bars as little beacons of light in the distance, and even Nice Boys can appear closed from a distance even when it is bouncing inside. Be brave!, it is worth it! 😂2 points

This will just be a short update report, I spent a long visit to Thailand a few months ago and this trip was just a side visit because I was 'in the area'. Taking every opportunity that arises I spent a week between Bangkok and Pattaya, too short to get to all of the bars I wanted, but long enough to get a feel for the recovery. My prior trip was still enjoyable, but dealing with the Thailand pass hoops and the shifting sands of closing time restrictions, outdoor 'restaurant' seating only, and other covid measures did put a cloud over things. I'm happy to say a lot of these hurdles are now gone, and the life in the bars is returning. Firstly, getting there: No more Thailand Pass paperwork 👍 Vaccine paperwork not checked on arrival, just at check-in 👍 Immagration was a 15 minute affair, just as before 2020 👍 Flight prices are crazy and my flights were full 👎 The exchange booths in the basement adjacent to the aiport station were open, 2 with identical rates, then the one bank (i cant recall which) booth with worse rates. Up a few levels and out to a Taxi, it felt so good to be in and out of the airport in 30 mins, in a taxi zipping down the motorway to Silom. Bangkok The first thing I always do is walk the Surawong, Tawan, Silom Rd, Thaniya block. It was around 8pm for reference. Surawong: Olivia massage was open with 8-10 guys (1-2 twinks), Green Massage was about the same. Tawan side: I think I counted 3 massage shops with guys outside, more muscle guys. Silom to the right of soi Tawan: A new shop Nineteen massage, I only saw 2-3 guys out front, none I fancied so I didn't poke my head in. Silom past patpong/soi4/soi2: The touts are back, a few massage offers from the guys outside Soi 4 for Adam Massage. The soi 4 bars were open and a bit of foot traffic, which was a good sign. On the path back from Thaniya I believe Amolir was open again, but I missed it in my notes on whether it is still mixed-sex or only ladies. The massage places are coming back to life, much more choice than earlier this year. I returned to Patpong later, and was flanked by touts as I stroll up the stairs to Fresh Boys... busy busy busy. They were down to 2-3 open benches left, there was about 25 guys on stage and waiting in rotation. Most of the guys I would describe as twunks, 3-4 twinks, shirtless in white booty shorts and a couple of cute waiters. The shows are never my highlight, but they at least have big cock pole kicking back I guess. My off was a bit of a dud, seemed to be new to the scene, but it's still good to be back. On the following afternoon I decided to investigate Olivia Massage, just as I picked my massuese another guy walked out that would have absolutely been my first choice. Oh well, I'm not going to let the guy down and switch half way in the door with him. Now I don't think i've been to Olivia before, I was under the impression it was generally considered a 'extras' kind of place. The guy I picked stayed fully clothed and made no advance to asking for extras, I made some not so subtle hints but he didn't take the bait. He was very new, very limited massage skills and no english. I made my way to Banana room after dinner at G's, Banana had i think 8-12 guys, still more twunks but a few options for me. I didn't end up taking anyone, just some drinks and enjoying the views. My final Bangkok day I did the rounds of the massage shops, but it was a bit early in the afternoon ~12pm. The guy from Olivia said hi, but the guy I really wanted to return for wasn't in. Green massage was empty this early so I did a walk past nineteen and it's too early for them too. Decided to pass and make my way back to the hotel. I had a coffee at the cafe beside The Quarter opposite mango tree (can't find on google maps). I picked beans from Chang Mai, absolutely delicious. Coffee lovers should give it a try and see if they're consistent, I only tried it once. Back at the hotel I fired up Grindr and set up a meeting with a university guy. He came over later and it was the best sex I've had in a very very long time, I was in heaven for a good 2-3 hours. We exchanged Line and I was considering canceling Pattaya to get the rest of the week with him, but I decided to hold strong and stick with the plan. I'll be back for him again another trip hopefully. That was my Bangkok stay, very brief, but some very good signs for the recovery. I'll post Pattaya in the next day or so.2 points

As long as I'm making corrections and updating, yes it was Richard Burk who said that to me many years ago. Over the years I have repeated it many times on many topics. He was the owner of the Amor restaurant in Boyztown. After 16 years the restaurant eventually failed. The owner of the New Orleans restaurant, also well known in Boyztown, took over the location and converted it to a deli which he named Street Life. I never understood his rationale for that name, nevertheless at the time it was the only one of its kind in Pattaya. Richard did not own it. He was there as the manager. Street Life eventually failed too and Richard ended up going from job to job as restaurant manager in various locations. His final one was at Coco's restaurant on Soi Chaiyapruek - and that one eventually failed too. Richard had a very difficult time of it after Street Life failed, but one thing I always admired him for - he was a fighter. Despite all of his troubles he never gave up. I think those of us who have been in Pattaya long enough, whether they liked him or not, well remember Richard. He was quite a character. Richard died in March, 2017.2 points

From Politico CDC vows a revamp after backlash to pandemic response The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention is undergoing an overhaul following criticism of how it handled the coronavirus pandemic and, more recently, a growing monkeypox outbreak, reports your Pulse co-author, Krista. Federal regulators conducted reviews of the agency and determined that the “traditional scientific and communication processes were not adequate to effectively respond to a crisis the size and scope of the COVID-19 pandemic,” according to an agency statement. As a result, CDC Director Rochelle Walensky wants to “transform” the agency and its work culture by improving how the agency shares information, develops public health guidance and communicates with the American public. The CDC didn’t provide a timeline for the revamp. Walensky appointed HHS Deputy Secretary Mary Wakefield to oversee a team charged with ensuring the changes are made. Wakefield is also tasked with setting up a new executive council that will “determine agency priorities, track progress and align budget decisions, with a bias toward public health impact.” An equity office will be established to improve the agency’s diversity across the organization, from hiring to policy. The CDC website will be revamped and streamlined to simplify its public health guidance. The agency will give staff incentives to gear their data and research toward public health policy action instead of scientific publications. In addition, measures to speed up the publication of data and research findings are being considered. Additional staff will be trained to quickly respond to public health emergencies. Emergency staffing will be set up to ensure there are no personnel gaps during a crisis.1 point

Who is managing the person's financial and healthcare affairs? I mean in the traditional setting where the person has family, the family usually manage the financial affairs, and coordinate the person healthcare, ie, looking for appropriate doctors, making deposit, paying the bills, and lot of medical treatments require consents. All these small things add up, some seniors are just not capable of doing all by himself.1 point

Well guys today my lymph nodes ( I think U call them that?) under Neath my chin was swollen so though I would get a second opinion other than that silly camp GP I saw yesterday who only referred me to a throat specialist after paying him around $75 for that !. I keep thinking if that LMTU (let me tell u ) and I need to find out if this is HPV , I don't have time to wait weeks for appointments So today managed to go a few suburbs away and found a very nice young GP available. This was a large medical centre and they asked me questions did I have a sore throat, did I travel overseas etc ,I denied it all otherwise I would never see a doctor . Anyway my name got called out and the doctor seemed to be a you g good-looking arabic guy 😉 He introduced himself and said he was doing a 1 year exchange as a doctor here in Australia from Egypt .He was 28yo😅he told me anyway we got to the point and I told him I went to Philippines & Thailand ,and I had unprotected sex. I didn't even have to tell him it was a men , because his next question was did you have sex with man ,woman or both? I said both ..I was embarrassed anyway my symptoms I told him were burning sensation in throat and swollen lymph glands under my chin.he felt under my chin then put gloves on and felt under my arms ,no lumps there , he looked in my mouth and then asked me what sort of sex I did . I said oral sex on males . he said "without condom? I said yes and I rimmed them too He looked puzzled 😳," can you explain this ? He said I hesitated. I didn't know how to explain this to a young good-looking Egyptian doctor "I done oral sex" ......and before I could get anymore out...he said " oh ok without condom on them"? "No no no ...I said .." oral sex but on their anus " he sat in his seat ...looking like he was shocked...😳😳😳he didn't speak like for a few seconds staring at me . he didn't say anything then said loudly...almost urgently..." We need to give you a full sexual health check up immediately!!!!! full bloods and sexual tests! " You could have bugs !!! now I didn't say to him that I already been last week for sex health check up and it was negative I just let him go on. " You go for full blood test ! right now ! now I'm sitting there sort of worried like he is shocked at my behaviour " Did you kiss too? he said yes I said ... kiss them long ? He said I had no idea what he meant long? So just said yes HE asked me what medicine I took last week I said doxycycline...he said I will give you cilicaine vk ?? he then said " mate please very careful...you must have bugs !😳😳😳 I'm going to give you a anal swab and throat swab. now guys I had to lay face down on his bed and YES I got a hard on as he stuck a swab in my butt😉😉then he put that swab in a clear plastic cylinder I felt like he was pushing the long swab in my anus a long time like he enjoyed it Then he swabbed my mouth down my throat and yes I gagged ,( different Swab🤣 and out that in a clear plastic cylinder he then said to me take this small jar to the toilet and pee in it bring it back ..pee a little first then sent me to a gorgeous Filipino guy in the medical centre who took all my blood test he was very gorgeous, and made me feel calm as he took my blood I really felt like asking him for his number 😂 I had this vision of rimming him in the pathology room. I guess in a few days I will know my result ,but I peeked at a note in the pathology room and it says to the blood guy ..possible glandular fever??? so no idea .. as long as it's not HPV,anyway next week I have some indian throat lady ready to gag me with a throat camera not looking forward to that at a cost of $3001 point

That’s a lot of rimming. I hope they showered well. Bound to be a few that might not have. I hope you have your hepatitis vaccine. like others have said, parasites are a real worry. You need a gay doctor or one that specializes in parasites. You need a swab of your throat and complete std screening. Hopefully it’s a common std, that can be treated with meds. Syphilis is a bit more painful treatment, lol. They won’t know if it’s hpv till you have cancer. The good news is hpv cancer responds to treatment better than traditional cancer. Do you get std screening after your trips every time?1 point

Greta probably agrees this isn't worth talking about as it has approximately 0.05% chance of happening. A great Reddit thread described it as "powered by hopes and dreams; powered by Photoshop until the free trial expires". They have no engine. Their "flying prototype" hasn't... These vaunted contracts are minor fees upfront and a whole lot of stipulations and easy exits. The Concord had 18+ airlines signed and ended up ever delivering to... two. And there was a hell of a lot more behind the Concord than this fantasy. Given that no airline is putting real money in at this stage the only way this could ever get off the ground is people investing, I doubt there are enough stupid people in the whole world to get near what they'd need--assuming they're fully serious and competent. Far easier to Photoshop up a nice pamphlet and press release, wait for the idiotic press to go way overboard about it, and cash in on whatever stupid money you can grab for as long as you can keep pushing back the promised dates than to seriously try--either way the results are almost guaranteed to be the same!1 point

As it is, I am not able to sleep on the plane (even in biz class) except for dozing off for few minutes during the flight. So whatever little rest I can get on the way is great. I used to travel in Premium Economy, but found biz class fares on other airlines not much higher, so now choose that. With lounge access, it's really helpful to relax there and eat something light, when the layover in 3-4 hours. That makes it a less tiring trip overall. On board, I also appreciate the service and food choices in biz class. I used to redeem my Aeroplan points to fly business class - and that's how I got used to flying in biz class. They have now changed their redemption policy and it now takes a lot more miles to get a business class seat. And you are often offered routing that may take up to 30 hours to get to your destination. Oh well, I just have to fork out more money now to travel in biz class. (sigh). But I think it's worth it. To balance the extra cost in flying..... while I do like to stay in decent hotels, I don't go overboard. And I don't spend too much money on food either. Some basic local dishes are fine.... and sometimes just go for KFC or Burger King when I feel the urge to eat fast food!1 point -
And many of those same girlfriends also work in the agogos and beer bars, so perhaps it isn't just the gay customers that should be concerned 😂🤣 Honestly, it has always been that way. Just about every gay-for-pay straight guy will have a GF. And just about every gay boy with have a BF. Condoms will rarely feature! We are 'work sex' only. Have a few beers, and sit there with you hands, mouths, and wallets open and enjoy the cock-fest that is Nice Boys1 point

All 10 top spots are white (with Osaka tied onto 10 to make it not 100% racist) (but then Japanese are honorary whites). I'd say Best : New York City (if you're a multi-millionaire) Worst: New York City (if you're not a multi-millionaire)1 point -
I love your work, for years I often wondered where you went , of course I always thought the worst ,even some posts on forums I recall didn't seem to know where you went . I'm just so glad your back !! I recall you had the "key" thing or coloured things as indicators, can't remember what they call it ,key indicators? Oh I'm going mad trying to remember 20 years ago 😂1 point

3 cheers for attentive hotel staff for noticing your birthday and another 3 cheers for complimentary birthday cake! If only the hotel staff had knocked on the door a bit later! Now that will be a story worth retelling!1 point

I did consider this hotel too in the past but due the inconvenience location and many poor reviews I never stayed there, however due your good experience at the Baiyoke I will consider staying there on my next visit for night or two for its panoramic BKK view.1 point
