The rest of Laureles is very safe and beautiful and green. You will be fine. Best drag shows would be either Oráculo (Cra38 at Clle10) in Poblado on Friday or Purple (Avendia 33 at Cra 78) in Laureles on a Saturday. Check out what is happening at Oráculo because then you have Bar Chiquita around the corner and the open-air bars on Cra 38 (Donde Aquellos, etc) to visit afterwards. Just resurrecting this old thread with 2022 update: Club 117 is still very popular and busy on Tuesdays because of the free cabins. Closed on Mondays. Wednesdays are very busy at Pointe 202 because of the same free cabin promotion. Many Club 117 garotos will come to Pointe 202 on Wednesdays. I suppose Mondays are also busy at Pointe 202 (because Club 117 is closed). Pointe 202 is closed on Sundays. There was no waiting time for the (free) cabins at neither Club 117 nor Pointe 202 on the days I was there in March. Club 117 is easily accessible from Copacabana. Just take the metro to Gloria (6 stations from Siqueira Campos/Copacabana) and it is less than 5 min walk from there. Metro ticket price is now 6,5 BRL; you can enter the metro by using a VISA contactless card so no need to queue up to buy ticket. Actually Gloria/Lapa/Santa Teresa are more charming than Copacabana IMO and well worth a visit/sightseeing, Centro is deserted on weekends and should be avoided.

I arrived last night after one of the worst flying experiences I ever had. These are very basic buses, the one we saw was probably the size of a USA conventional school bus. During the day, these buses are used to transport supplies and produce. During the night, they turn into rolling parties. The one we saw was busting music and was totally dark but full of people. Anything can happen there. My airbnb host was incredible friendly and cool. I was supposed to arrived at 8. He waited for me until almost 2 am, when I walked into his building (by the way, the driver was adorable and I gave him 100K) he was waiting for me with the keys and escorted me to the unit. I found a nice little park a few blocks away from my nest, Parque Laureles, with a lot of trees to shelter from the sun. That is the one thing that I am not enjoying so far: it feels hotter than it actually is because of humidity. It is very humid. I was even cruised in the path around the Stadium at Universidad Bolivariana. I got to the boundries of Laureles, an area I was advised not to explore. It was fine, I did not feel unsafe. my hotel didn't provide one either, i think it is expected to buy your own. They're only 100baht or so from most boots or convenience stores. I haven't heard of anyone having issues if they just ignore it, but that's not to say a future thai pass application could be affected. Hopefully this whole process will just be gone soon. When a bar (or massage place) has more customers during weekends than weekdays, it usually means that it is drawing mainly local customers, not tourists. Here, by 'local' I mean folks resident in Thailand including expats. In pre pandemic years past, I have not noticed much difference between weekday and weekend traffic. The businesses then were heavily reliant on tourists, not locals. We will know when tourism has fully revived when weekend/weekday traffic evens out. Bkk bars and massage places used to have a distinct surge in customers during the major holiday periods of east Asian countries, particularly 1st week May and 1st half Oct, in addition to Christmas and new year. I wonder if we will see a surge in a month's time (May). If so, it will be a good sign, though personally for me, these are periods I avoid.

I am not sure if it is because of lack of competition by tourists from China (especially women) or if it is because of boys' efforts to compensate for what was lost during pandemic 2020-22, or perhaps combination of both .. but I have noticed again on this trip that many guys are very willing and trying their best to be off'ed. though i am not sure how long it is gonna last, but It still is buyers' market here for now.
