    Tawan bar

Don't let China hear you say that!

  2. It would be nice if you at least could go into a bar at all. But so far you can't. This thing about permitting alcohol in restaurants in Pattaya beginning January 16 is not engraved in stone. That is not by any means guaranteed. There is also nothing I've seen that says there are any plans to permit alcohol later than 9:00pm and nothing I've seen that says January 16 is necessarily going to mean the bars will open. Folks, I hope none of you are going to wishful think yourselves into planning your holiday in Thailand too soon and end up disappointed. You might want to consider waiting until the bars really do reopen and alcohol can be served - a lot later than 9:00pm. Don't be all that upset that you're not in Pattaya right now. You're missing all the bars closed, much less public transportation, some favorite hotels closed, and plenty of rain nearly every day just when you would want to be on the beach and just when you would be going out to dinner and the bars.

  3. The idea of another trip to Thailand, particularly Pattaya is very active in my mind just now. Over the years I have visited Thailand (mainly Pattaya) for the tropical weather, excellent value hotels and restaurants, some sight-seeing and the exotic atmosphere very different to Northern Europe. But most of all I have travelled to meet and have sex with attractive Asian guys. Drinking alcohol in bars is not a priority for me. So I think a couple of weeks in late January would be a good decision.

  4. I consider myself drinker but honestly I don't see any problem if I can't drink in the bar as long as one can purchase bottle or three in 7/11 and the like. Closing entertainment venues bites much more but as Z909 noted above we have choice of going somewhere else or getting as much as possible form situation as it is.

    Waiting on reports

Flight & Arrival in Phuket Business class was full. Economy Plus was about 15% full, seating was 2+4+2 and not all side rows were occupied with 1 or 2 people, the middle rows were completely empty. Economy I am not sure, max 50% full, probably less, once I checked the seatings and the last third of the economy seats where completely empty. On the plane they distributed the TM6 immigration card and later the distributed the T8 health form. On arrival, first we were seated in rows and told to prepare the following documents: passport, immigration card, Thailand Pass and the pre-departure PCR test result. After someone checked all four docs are prepared, we had to queue for at health counter, were they kept the PCR test result. All this was done in less then 10 minutes. T8 was not needed. Next to immigration, fingerprints and immigration card as usual, no queue at all. While walking to the baggage claim, I checked all the exchange boots (with really bad rates, no Superrich in Phuket), then bought a sim card and when I arrived at the baggage claim, my suitcase appeared within minutes. Next step was the PCR test. Here the queue was a bit longer. First to the counter were they checked the PCR test booking (which in Phuket is separate from Hotel booking) and gave you the testing material. Then to the booth where they took the probe. Exactly 1 hour after landing i was sitting in the taxi to Patong Beach and the clock for the test results was already ticking. Check-In at the hotel was as smooth, I went to the room, registered my email adress for receiving the test result, took a shower and decided to unpack all my stuff despite yet knowing wether they will put me to jail or not. 4h after landing I got the test result. Actually I wasnt prepared it was that fast and if I didn't request an early check in I would have probably been still waiting in the hotel lobby when the result came. I called the reception and asked if I can leave the room now and they said yes you can. All was really well organized!!! Patong I walked along the beach. Almost noone was wearing a mask. The hotel said "It is not that strict at the beach" and they were right. Later I checked some exchange boots. In the streets people were mostly wearing a mask. The best exchange rate I could find was 37.20 while interbank exchange rate was 37.76 Baht per Euro, so not Bangkok rates but better than ATM. Equipped with some Baht I was prepared to later explore the gay scene of Patong which is pretty small in normal years so I didn't expect too much. The beach was alive but very far from full. Other beaches I checked out in the following days were almost empty. So whatever the number of turist arrivals is, it is definitely not enough for an island like Phuket! I had the feeling there were more taxi drivers and tour booths than turists. I think the bigger & better hotels are operating well since they can offer really low rates and still be profitable. On the way to Paradise Complex I passed through Bang La Road, which is the walking street for our straight friends. It was pretty active I would say, noone needs to complain here! Some places were pretty packed, I actually wouldn't feel comfortable Covid-wise. Paradise Complex consists of 3 parallel strips. The first strip has 3-4 massage shops, all were open, looked more or less the same I remember it from 10 (?) years ago. The second strip is where Aquarius Sauna is - looked pretty dark and deserted The third strip is where the host and gogo bars are. About 3 host bars (Zig + Taeng Mo + ???) and Zag Club (normally a Gogo Club, but I think they were only playing music outside for the opposite Zig bar) was open. Peoplewise it was rather quiet. The good thing is that you can sit outside and don't have to go into the bars. The next day there was a travesty show, so that particular place was well visited. Are they doing ok? I am not sure ... there were a few "for sale" signs in the street and it was unclear to me to which bars/buildings they were referring. Did I do well? Yes I did. I went to the first host bar and spent a few rounds for the staff which consisted of about 5 boys, 2 of which were pretty cute twinks, the others "boys next door". "New boys" according to the owner. I guess this will be the motto in any of Thailands gay bars after reopening. I decided to go upstairs with one of the 2 twinks, and while the massage was bad I still left happy. The bars start closing at 11pm, I don't think they have to but they decided to because there are just not enough customers. The next day I checked out the massage shops. Most boys a bit too effeminate for my taste. But in one of the shops I found the right guy. Massage was good and afters were great. At the time we finished the room was quite a mess ... this is what must happen after 2 years of lockdown. As for taking a boy to the islands, that didnt turn out as planned; I am not sure what the problem was, but in the end he didnt want to leave his shop/friends and came up with different excuses why he couldnt go. The best one of was "I think I have Covid" ... is this the new "buffalo died"? Thats pretty much it so far. In general I try to do most things (like eating at restaurants) outdoor. I wear a proper FFP2 mask when doing indoor activities like getting a regular massage. I dont wear a mask while doing boy stuff - that would spoil the fun and I roughly calculated it would need a few 1000 boys in Phuket to encounter one that has Covid ... by that number I will have died from exhaustion anyway. And they are well vaccinated as far as I can tell ... one boy had 2 x Pfizer, the other hat 2x Chinese + 1 Astrazeneca. I also try to avoid being registered by name as you never know. I am not using the Mor Chana app since I was not able to register (Android; "Invalid Thailand Pass Information" - anyone else?) and am not too keen on being monitored anyway. There is now an update of the app but I don't want to try if it works. At arrival I got a rapid test which I did after 6 days and took a few fotos of the negative result in case someone would want to see it. I also brought some rapid tests from home, so I will check every 5 days or so. So far the only things they seem to care is the Thailand Pass, the release form of the first hotel where I did the "quarantine night" and the vaccination certificates, I needed these for checking in at a different hotel and when taking transport.

  8. News A Landmark Year for U.S. Cities in Advancing LGBTQ+ Equality Chicago skyline image by Rudy Balasko/Shutterstock The number of cities earning a a perfect score on the Human Rights Campaign Foundation’s Municipal Equality Index has surpassed 100 for the first time. November 18 2021 9:00 AM EST For the first time, more than 100 cities across the U.S. have earned a perfect score on the Human Rights Campaign Foundation’s Municipal Equality Index, which rates municipal policies, laws, and services that affect LGBTQ+ people. The exact number is 110, up from 94 in 2020 and just 11 in 2012, when the index was inaugurated. The HRC Foundation (the Human Rights Campaign’s educational arm) released the 2021 report Thursday, in partnership with the Equality Federation. “LGBTQ+ people are everywhere — in every city, county and zip code,” JoDee Winterhof, HRC senior vice president of policy and political affairs, said in a press release. “Throughout its 10-year history, the Municipal Equality Index has been centered on supporting and celebrating the work municipalities do to serve LGBTQ+ people in the places they call home. This year, statewide lawmakers have zeroed in on attacking transgender and nonbinary children — for no reason other than in an effort to harm and erase them. Local leaders, however, have continued to move the needle of progress forward, and by doing so, they have spurred economic growth by signaling to residents, visitors and employers that their city is open to everyone.” Indeed, the report shows that municipalities are often far ahead of their states in advancing LGBTQ+ equality. In 20 states across the country, 72 cities earned over 85 points despite being located a state without nondiscrimination laws that include sexual orientation and gender identity, which is up from five municipalities in 2012. These cities have taken steps such as enacting comprehensive nondiscrimination laws, providing transgender-inclusive health benefits for city employees, and providing services for particularly vulnerable members of the LGBTQ+ community. The index covers 506 cities, including the 50 state capitals, the 200 largest cities in the U.S., the five largest cities or municipalities in each state, the cities home to the state’s two largest public universities, the 75 municipalities that have high proportions of same-sex couples, and 98 cities selected by HRC and Equality Federation state group members and supporters. It assesses each city on 49 criteria covering citywide nondiscrimination protections, policies for municipal employees, city services, law enforcement and the city’s leadership on LGBTQ equality. Other key findings include: This year, 181 cities have transgender-inclusive health care benefits for municipal employees — up from 179 in 2020, despite more rigorous standards this year, and only five at the start of the MEI. The national city score average jumped to an all-time high of 67 points, up from 64 last year and 59 in 2012, marking both the fourth consecutive year of national average increases as well as the highest year-over-year national average growth ever. Cities rated by the MEI in 2012 averaged 59 points in 2012; in 2021, those cities averaged 85 points. Cities around the country saw progress, with every region of the country seeing a higher average score than last year. Forty-three municipalities have anti-conversion therapy ordinances in states with no state-level protections, up from 38 last year. “In reflecting on the Municipal Equality Index’s 10-year history, it feels as though these past few years have been the most challenging, and yet the most critical, to advancing LGBTQ+ equality,” Fran Hutchins, executive director of the Equality Federation Institute, said in the release. “Despite the increasing attacks we are seeing on transgender youth in state legislatures, the important work to advance protections for LGBTQ+ people continues at the local level. As we face the upcoming attacks by opponents of equality, we know the state-based movement is stronger than ever and ready to fight for the millions of LGBTQ+ Americans who need us in the towns and cities across this country.” “For 10 incredible years, the MEI has helped guide, shape and inspire more inclusive laws and policies in cities of all sizes in all parts of the country,” added Cathryn Oakley, HRC state legislative director and senior counsel, and founding author of the index. “This program is one of the key ways HRC is able to impact the daily lives of our members, supporters and allies. Being able to personally witness these communities continue to push themselves to better serve their LGBTQ+ communities over the years has been one of my greatest joys. I am incredibly proud of this project and of the MEI team who have made this report a vehicle of enduring change and of our partners in communities around the country who have enthusiastically embraced its possibilities.” The report also contains an issue brief for policymakers that covers the types of challenges faced by transgender and nonbinary individuals, ways that a city can support them, and guidance on forming a task force aiming to prevent violence against this population. Additionally, the report includes HRC’s Pledge for Local Elected Leaders to End Violence Against Black and Brown Transgender Women. The full report, including detailed scorecards for every city as well as a searchable database, is available online at www.hrc.org/mei.

  10. I spent a career in corporate communications working with CEOs. There were a lot of troubling secrets. What I learned is that secrets don't keep. There are too many loose lips and people that could benefit by revealing it. Only those who have never been involved in such things could believe that large numbers of people could keep their mouths shut. Human nature is to blab. Even more so when there is benefit in it. Conspiracies are, for the most part, intellectual masturbation that makes the believer feel superior to the unbeliever because they possess 'hidden knowledge'. Witness all the stupidity of Qanon. Belief in such nonsense leads to a lot of dark places. January 6th for instance.

    Same-sex bill denied

From Pattaya Mail Thai government to back gay rights bill By Barry Kenyon Following an expected ruling by the constitutional court which limits the definition of marriage to opposite-sex couples, the government has agreed to speed up a draft law to protect all genders. Deputy prime minister Wissanu Krea-ngam pointed out the court ruling did include a suggestion that parliament could change section 1448 of the civil and commercial code which discriminated on the grounds of sexual orientation. Two stalled bills are currently within parliamentary committees. One would allow full gay marriage for gays and the other limits the legal protection to civil unions. Mr Wissanu’s announcement appears to support the second and more limited version. One of the main differences is that full gay marriage is required for same-sex partners to enjoy anti-discrimination rights in employment and pension legislation. Depending on the detail, Thailand is scheduled to be the first country in Asia to enshrine legal equality for gays. Taiwan is often quoted as the first nation to permit full gay equality, although there are restrictions. For instance, citizens cannot marry a foreigner. Depending on the drafting process and the enthusiasm of the government parties, a new law could see the light of day sometime next year. If a general election was called, that could create an indefinite delay. https://www.pattayamail.com/latestnews/news/thai-government-to-back-gay-rights-bill-379744

    Silom bars

From Bangkok Post Govt explains delay in reopening entertainment venues The Centre for Covid-19 Situation Administration has given two reasons for delaying the reopening of entertainment places, and said operators must improve disease control standards. Apisamai Srirangson, a spokeswoman for the CCSA, admitted on Friday that when the government postponed their reopening from December to Jan 16 the operators of entertainment venues were bitterly disappointed. One reason for the delay was that the country had not been able to bring the number of new daily Covid-19 cases to below 5,000 and fatalities continued at about 50 a day, she said. The other reason was the Public Health Ministry and local organisations said the operators of entertainment venues had not registered compliance with the Covid-19 control standard, known as Amazing Thailand Safety and Health Administration Plus (SHA+), Dr Apisamai said. The standard was mandatory for reopening, she said. "Please improve your premises ... Whether reopening will happen or not does not depend on the decision of CCSA, but on the readiness of the premises themselves," Dr Apisamai said. Covid-19 vaccination of staff of entertainment venues was among the criteria of the SHA+ standard. Details of the standard were available from the Department of Health, she said. Premises that met the standard would get an SHA+ sign from the Tourism Authority of Thailand. Visitors would look for such signs at entertainment venues, Dr Apisamai said. Under the CCSA's plan, from Nov 16 to Jan 15 the Interior and Public Health ministries would enforce disease control and ventilation regulations and officials would evaluate the reopening readiness of entertainment places. From Jan 16 onwards, entertainment places would reopen only in high surveillance, surveillance and tourism pilot zones. Places that cause Covid-19 outbreaks would be closed. https://www.bangkokpost.com/thailand/general/2218367/govt-explains-delay-in-reopening-entertainment-venues

  14. I believe that is exactly what is happening. In all the years I've lived in Thailand I have never seen so much rain over such a prolonged period of time. No seasons I have ever seen in Thailand come even close to what has been happening with this one. Maybe things will dry out later, but the fact is we are now a month into Thailand's dry season - and around here it is anything but dry. The only things dry are the bars . . .

Airasia X are in huge trouble financially. They cant pay their debtor and now malaysia authority are chasing them to refund malaysian customers their money back, instead of just giving credit for future trips. My sympathy to the workers. Locally, airasia is doing ok here, and domestic flights taking off as usual. Though people here do complaint of very limited counter opened for check-in probably due to lack of staff too.

  16. Most from neighboring countries (Asean) are in the visa exempt group. So itll definitely a better choice for us to go to cambodia if thailand current rules are a deal-breaker. For most regular tourists, cambodia definitely looks more attractive now. U do have to purchase their insurance though. I checked and its about usd90 for 20 days.

As long as we passed the dreaded on arrival tests and not amongst those close contact to one who fails, it should be worth the trouble, at least for me. Massage places are open, some boys from bars are freelancing there too. So its definitely worth the trip just for this.

  19. Bangkok doesn't need any campaign as it's already world class destination. Pattaya has it's reputation worldwide so government probably doesn't want to make too much noise about her as not to invite nasty backlash. While Bangkok may be but when comes to Pattaya very few people worldwide other than gay themselves is thinking of Pattaya as gay destination. Her fame is owed to straights, we just tagged along.

Let''s remember this is the same Constitutional Court which approved Thaksin's ascendency to the Premiership despite his not having declared all his assets in advance. That should have ensured he could not even be an MP. His grardener and housekeeper were found each to hold many millions of shares in his company. The Court voted by 4 to 3 that it was an honest mistake. That one or more was bribed is certain. There are plenty of people in government who do not want a same sex marriage bill. I would put money on influence having been made on the Constitutional Court to ensure its verdict!

  22. Can I suggest that the first part of the sentence perhaps somewhat negates the second there GB perhaps ? As I'd posted above other people are reporting a different view and I see 'vaghn" ( if I may copy your post sir) has posted the following on another thread re this subject "'restaurant' in name only is what most places are doing it seems. From what i am seeing in insta stories of the boys in other places in bangkok, it is business as usual, dancing, bottles and drinks on the tables, no food in sight. They're partying it up until 2-3am." I see other posters also mentioning that DJ station is allegedly reopening again in some form. So while I don't deny for a second that things aren't as they were or that the law says "bars are closed" but like most things in life people always seem to find a way to work around such things and that appears to be what's happening in Bkk too just like many other cities right now. I guess this also goes back to a different conversation over on SGT recently where one member posted that they thought "a good time ( in pattaya) could still be had ( if you were up for it and knew where to look / who to talk to find it) and both yourself and MFAS suggested that you believed that was highly unlikely in your opinions ( or words to that effect). Which i guess goes back to just how hard and how much effort a person is prepared to put into to looking for that fun and actually seeking it out maybe and that to me is very much a how you see life thing, either being the whole glass half empty thing or half full thing just maybe? I think if I were the OP and was maybe finding myself sitting at home over New Years, alone and bored then personally I think I'd be saying "fuck it" and getting up and going to Bkk ( or anywhere else) and then working hard there on arrival to make the best of things as I found them on the ground and not just perhaps taking someone else's black and white view of "it's useless stay home, everything is closed in Bangkok ( and everywhere else) view just quite as readily as that view is being projecting perhaps -but I guess that's just how I roll in life and you GB I know may take a slightly more conservative view of things in that regard, but for the sake of balance it's good the OP does get a good balanced view of course.

I've stayed at the TWO and it's dramatic, modern and announces it's "heterosexual-friendly" lol. Nice roof pool. Otherwise the big Axel is in the center of the gayborhood and close to trendy areas and cafes/gay bars. City, 1/2 block from Thermas struck me as beautiful and modern but i never stayed there. Next trip I'll probably stay at the main Axel for the neighborhood.

  31. My, the underground social history that needs to be written about the Brazilian sauna scene.
    1 point
  32. Based on my observations and discussions, I’d say that 5-6 years is the maximum burnout period for a sauna garoto. The smart / savvy ones take advantage of the 3 year window they have where they are the “belles of the ball”, and get out of the sauna (and ad) game before they get physically and mentally burned out, they age out, and they are no longer considered The Flavor of The Month. Although I do know a few who are still working the saunas or doing ads after 7-8 years, it’s simply not very common. It’s a rough business, with plenty of fickle clients, and there are always newer, younger, hotter competitors waiting in the wings. Refarding the “arrangements” with sugar daddies who take them out of the saunas / off the poles and into an exclusive, if you talk to many of the garotos, this is what many of them would prefer to have, because they’d rather make the same amount of money or more not going to saunas dealing with multiple clients and other unknown factors. However, such a deal is very hard to come by — not a whole lot of clients who DO have this kind of money to burn are willing to fork out $1000 - $2000 USD a month (plus possible other expenses) just for one guy, when that money can be spread around to experience countless others. However, I do know of a few garotos who have secured sugar daddy “namorados” and left the sauna / ad / gogo / garoto business — at least while they are still getting the sugar!

  33. Very interesting. I've sometimes recognized guys from 3-4 years before, but not often. I suspect that, by that point in their career, they infrequently drop in as opposed to being a regular. Overexposure is a factor. I had a guy who started out going to Lagoa every day and pulling multiple clients. That rate was already dropping precipitously, and when I saw him the next year, he was already an irregular. There's a constant flow of fresh meat competition. I myself tend to prefer shiny new things. I don't know if even the best guys can keep turning 3-4 clients 2-3 times a week for long. Oh, and it's rarely the gods whom I see after 3-4 years. Those seem to disappear. When I asked one of my well-hung faves about doing a 3-way with another, monster-hung jock (Reynaldo, I'm sure some know who I mean) I was told he had been taken private by a client. The long timers seem past their expiration dates to me, but maybe they have skills behind closed doors that are not apparent. Now as for Termas in Barcelona, sheesh, some of those guys have been there for ages. Some live right in the sauna.
    1 point
  34. The *top* sauna garotos are earning $1000 - $2000 USD a month. This is also what the sugar daddy “namorado” / “patrocinadores” are paying to get them “off the pole” and keep them away from other clients / out of the sauna work into an exclusive. $1000 USD a month for a sauna garoto woukd be made if he goes to the sauna twice a week and nets 500 reais each trip (so, 3-4 30-minute programas and/or some offsite meetings. Doable for some, but not fir all). $2000 USD a month, you’re doubling that output. I’m not pulling these numbers out of my ass. I’m giving you reala-time information from actual current cases in Rio and São Paulo. Of course, this is a profession with a short window of a few years, so the hottest guys have maybe a 3-4 year shelf life.
