  1. Much more charitable than my description of government policy. Have a look a Richard Barrow's newsletters and posts on Facebook for the most reliable and up to date news (hours earlier than the Bangkok Post). Last week he pointed out two errors on CCSA infographics!

  2. It depends on so many unknowns at the moment, i'm planning for April because i can't risk getting stuck and living in Australia adds another level of unknown to the return. If i could do Dec-Jan, i would wait until end of November to decide because right now they are trying to change the arrival process so the picture should be clearer by mid-late november.

  5. I personally didn't feel any difference walking to Metro around 8pm in Centro (Meio Mundo) or Gloria (117). Stayed in two different hotels in Copacabana, both within 15 minutes or so walking distance to 202 from opposite sides, walking back to hotel around 8 or 9pm felt perfectly safe too. A lot of people are still out having dinner or cheering for their football team. Morning walks on the beach around 6:30 or 7 felt just fine as well. No problem at all during the day in Centro, Gloria or Copacabana. Business as usual other than face masks pretty much. Condolences to anyone who experienced any violence in Brazil, I understand one incident could traumatize someone for a long long time. So far so good for me.

  6. I contacted the Amara Hotel on Surawong to inquire if they were participating in he 1-night quarantine. I received a reply, confirming that they are offering rooms in all categories.. The lowest rate for the first night is BHT 6,100. They are partnered with a hospital for testing purposes and noted that turn-around time depends of flight arrival time. If a second night is required, the rate drops to BHT 2,500. Prices include transport from airport, RT-PCR test, antigens test kit and meals

  8. The Cambodian PM has announced a plan to open the country to travelers from Thailand. For fully vaccinated Thais & foreign tourists, that is: https://www.khmertimeskh.com/50959071/cambodia-to-allow-quarantine-free-entry-for-travellers-from-thailand-by-air/ Zero details on the when & how at this point but it's another bit of encouraging news.

  9. From Thai PBS World International airlines have returned as many as 80% of their airport slots at Thailand’s six international airports between October 31st and March 26th next year, indicating their uncertainty over a recovery in the aviation sector, according to Nitinai Sirisamatthakarn, the managing director of Airports of Thailand (AOT) Public Company. AOT operates Suvarnabhumi, Don Muaeng, Phuket, Hat Yai, Chiang Mai and Chiang Rai’s Mae Fah Luang international airports. He disclosed that the lowest point for the aviation industry in Thailand was from July to September, this year, after the Thai government suspended all regular flights as a precautionary measure to contain the COVID-19 pandemic, during which average daily arrivals at the six international airports was only 50 passengers. The situation has improved since Thailand eased travel restrictions in October this year, with an average of 30,000 arrivals a day. Airlines have given up 100% of their slots at Don Muaeng airport and about 70% of those at Suvarnabhumi, said Nitinai. AOT suffered 11 billion baht in operational losses in the first nine months of this year and an estimated 10 billion baht for the whole year, he said, adding that business over the next two years will, however, gradually recover. Penyos Pibulsongkhram, director of commercial affairs for the Vietjet airline, said that the aviation industry is still in crisis, although the situation is improving. Airport slots represent permission granted to an airline by the owner of an airport to use the airport’s facilities for landing and take-off. https://www.thaipbsworld.com/international-airlines-return-80-of-their-airport-slots-in-thailand-for-the-next-five-months/

  10. From Reuters / MSN Thailand readies for tourism reboot with reopening test-run BANGKOK (Reuters) - Thailand held a dry-run on Wednesday for its long-awaited, quarantine-free reopening to vaccinated travellers, as the country rushes to reboot an industry battered by an 18-month hiatus in international tourism. At Bangkok's Suvarnabhumi airport, Thailand's main gateway, airport staff and health and immigration officials ran a simulation of the arrival of a plane full of visitors, to test out electronic screening measures. "All the passengers will get their QR code checked by the Department of Disease Control," said Kittipong Kittikachorn, the airport's general manager. "It will include all the details about insurance, vaccine certificate, or hotel booking." https://www.msn.com/en-gb/news/world/thailand-readies-for-tourism-reboot-with-reopening-test-run/ar-AAQ0Nfn

    Australians let us rejoice.

Unfortunately, a bit premature because those of us living in Western Australia still have to wait until at least after Christmas - more likely April - before we can escape. And even then we will no doubt have to quarantine for 2 weeks. Of course, I'm pissed off because I can't travel. But I feel especially sad for those who can not meet their family members living overseas.

  13. Of course it's up to you to do whatever you want but I think it's too soon to know what to do .first ,the Thai Government policy is blurry and unpredictable. second ,even if the country will be full reopen many entertainment and tourism venues went bankrupt and it will take long time to recover before Thailand will become what it was if at all . I personally prefer to hold on any decisions till further notice .

  14. Reading these threads when Thailand might or might not open is dizzying! I only like to go to Thailand in the first two weeks of January, maybe late December. But it sounds as if even though the country might be open then, it could also be dead as tourism waits to ratchet up. Plus, if I go this season, @TotallyOz will not be there, having announced a holiday vacation some time ago. Does any one disagree? This could be a good time to go? (Anywhere from December 20 to January12th.)

  17. Omg, if i had to do this, if i were positive, i would probably be spreading more as i'll sweat profusely and those liquids will definitely pollute the surfaces there, helping the virus to spread.

  18. You do not need wifi to use Google Translate. Just make sure you download the dictionaries you need, and the app works off line.

  19. Negotiation is not really about the price, who cares about the 50 or 100 extra. More importantly, if the boy knows you are clueless about the price, he probably assumes you are also clueless of what boys normally do in the room. I always chat with the boy via google translate to get a feel of the boy. Those who don't like to chat, just want to go straight to the room I would avoid. In the early years without a cell plan nor wifi, I would go to the room with a boy without mutual agreement of what we would do, often ended up with the boy insists on giving head with condom and just want to get it over with quickly. I have learned not to rush or be rushed, and not be shy about discussing expectations openly. Also, when you find a boy you like, don't hesitate and wait, go after him and make future plans right after if you like your time together. You are only visiting for a couple weeks, might never run into him again. If your home mobile plan doesn't work in Brazil, do get a local sim for using google translate, maps and uber, a must have for a great trip.
