Going out of your comfort zone in selecting guys

I think we all have our own "type" and think that's the best looking and everyone else's is ugly, lol Tonight, I didn't even feel like going out. Monday night can be hit or miss in the saunas..... I had seen this young Will Smith looking guy in here the last few nights and wondered what he was like. I started a conversation with him about his haircut and it went on from there. We talked a bit and he agreed to come back to my apt. He was sooo interesting to talk to and very intelligent.....ended up being a great night and great sex. Glad I went out and tried something outside of my normal types......now will sleep like a baby7 points -

Many Argentines feel like everything good in their lives is owed to Peronism. From the times of Evita & Perón, when a day is sunny nd beautiful, it is a Peronist day. Well, this has been a Peronist weekend. Spring like temperatures and the announcements of downgrading restrictions in the city got Porteños in the street. I joined them, and yesterday met with a friend nearby my base. I walked from my Airbnb to Plaza Italia. In my way, I enjoyed once again my neighborhood. This single block is representative of many others. In a few meters you can appreciate examples of buildings built along more than 100 years. And next to these typical landscape, you have a nuclear bomb that ruins everything. I am sure the view from these towers is amazing, but they completely fucked up the skyline and the nearby family houses' privacy. I wonder how much money those developers paid in bribes to get approved a construction permit breaking the standards for the area. In my way to Plaza Italia, I walked through another development from after my departure. They recycled the areas under and around train bridges. The one near my place is an open outlet shopping mall of local and International first brands. People were standing up in long lines waiting to enter the stores, as there is a limit set per squared meter. As most shopping malls, this one is forgettable, but I thought you may be curious about American burgers prices. This is a Wendy's display. 319= U$S 3.28/2.05; 359 = U$S 3.69/2.31. If you compare these junk food prices to what you have to pay for a prime steak (remember? I am paying 420), these are very expensive. However, in Argentina, fast food crap like Wendy's, McD, and BK, are the choice for the middle class. Just another example of Argentinean middle class' "tilinguería" (a localism for "snobbism" carrying all the cultural nuances that its standard universal synonym lacks of), famous all over the subcontinent. I met my friend at the Ecopark. I absolutely loved walking those trails I had walked so many times as a child, when the Zoo was up and running. The buildings are from Buenos Aires' golden age, when Argentina was still dreaming of becoming an International power. They are just beautiful, with many statues, fountains, and just all kind od constructions with high artistic value. The designers of some landscapes show great sophistication, the apparent intention is to show nature taking over the old buildings, as in a post apocalyptic narrative. Additionally, all the vegetation is local species. Most of the buildings that used to contain wild animals in captivity are now empty. Others have been refurnished. I still remember from 3 decades ago how this used to be a series of small cages with exotic tropical birds: Most animals have been sent to reserves, but a few still remain as they are too old, or sick to be translated. I saw an old poor elephant alone and away from the open to public areas. Other animals will probably become permanent habitants of a quite open space, in the middle of Buenos Aires. After te Ecopark, we walked towards Recoleta. This is all the fancier are of Palermo. We walked through the zone we mentioned before, Palermo Chico, where many local Plutocrats and diplomatics live. Right there, we have the embassy of a favorite American country. I ended the day exhausted after walking about 7 km, and went back home with the intention to write this report. But Grindr came in the middle of my task, and instead I ended inviting a local who made a party with my dick. I need to close Grindr or I will never hire again. To celebrate a good fuck, I ordered authentic Argentina empanadas. Another item checked out of my To Eat List. Today Sunday it was family time. First, I had to stop by the pharmacy to get more anti acids and more lube. Then, my mami was waiting for me with mbaipu. Originally the dish is from Paraguay, but we do the version popular in Corrientes. Another check out of my To Eat List. After spending some hours with family I took advantage of being back to Recoleta, and ran up to the artisans fair to buy a water pipe. And now I am here trying to make a decision. Grindr? A contract? Resting?2 points -
Buenos Aires, Argentina. June/July 2021

I just finished packing and in a few hours will be departing to Buenos Aires. I have not visited my second home in two years, and besides cuddling my 83 y.o. mother and my old friends, I am very curious about the city in pandemic mode. Things look bad over there right now, with restrictions close to Fase 1 in some places even if they are rolling vaccination with a good vaccine, Russian Sputnik. The exchange is back to have an official and a parallel value. Today, official exchange is around U$S 1 = $AR 100; while the "blue" exchange is 1 to 150. Due to this huge difference, I will be restricting the use of credit cards (they use official exchange rates) and instead I am taking cash. I will stay in an Airbnb for 30 days (less than 400 bucks!), a studio in duplex with two balconies in a 2nd floor (3rd for American standards), in Palermo. This is another reason I am excites. I always lived in Recoleta, and then kept staying in my family place or renting in that neighborhood. This is the first time that I am going to be exploring Palermo, a quite transformed area since my departure from the city. It is full of restaurants and bars, with a quite young/middle class demographic. Wish me a good trip!1 point -

Pay no mind to @Slvkguyhe speaks so negatively about Miami, and generalizes about all Miami men — and as a Miami Beach guy, I can say his version of Miami is not what I experience, living here. Miami scene is way more than the beach. You have Wynwood which is always slammed and a lot of fun. Little Havana, Little River and Brickell have cool bars and lots of pop up warehouse parties. Not to knock FTL, but it doesn’t have the vibe or the swag of Miami hot spots. Hit up any bar in Wynwood or head to Space, 11, Palace, the basement at the Edition, Blackbird Ordinary, the Wood, Swan, Soho House, Deuces, or Nandos and Komodo after hours.... or this weekends pop-up cocktail lounge promoted by a celeb or promoter... @Slvkguyis right that FTL is traditional gay, it’s a scene is focused on oddly lit gay bars in strip malls, playing gay pop anthems mixed with club dance DJ sets, the kind of place that always need a good cleaning and the kind of place we’ve already spent so much of our lives in... guys in muscle tees or sparkly tank tops, cargo shorts and flip flops. Miami’s scene is mixed, restaurants turned to night clubs after hours, gays and straights dancing together, hanging together, cruising and flirting together... it’s vibier, way sexier and I think a lot more fun. and no, all Miami gays don’t go to FTL for the weekend. You go up maybe once every 5 or 6 weeks, when a friend wants to hit the bear bar in FTL (there isn’t a good one in Miami) or a friend just got dumped and wants boys night — outside of Miami. Nobody in Miami hates the gay scene in Miami. If we did we’d move, FTL is a lot cheaper and only 30 mins away. Gays who live in Miami think it’s head and shoulders above FTL. It’s just a very different scene — and just cuz SlvkGuy doesn’t like it doesn’t mean the rest of the rest of the gay world feels the same. Most of my friends from other places in US all hit up Miami, not FTL...1 point -
I for one will not have annuity or pension as over here, only goverment workers have such benefit. My father received around 40% of his last paycheck monthly as his pension so its pretty good pension scheme for government worker here and of course free healthcare at goverment facilities as well. For me working in private sector, we contribute to a retirement fund. 11% of your salary, and employers will contribute a minimum of 12%. Some company increases this amount further up to 19% as part of employee benefits. The fund has a minimum dividen of 2.5% to offset inflation but has been giving us around 5% dividen annually. The fund is accessible for a number of reasons prior to retirement such as buying a house, medical spending, education etc. Our gov has allowed special withdrawals of this fund during covid period for affected workers. On retirement (at 55 although retirement age has been revised to 60 for most of us), we can either take it out lump sum, or choose to do a monthly witdrawal of our desired amount. Im still undecided if i were to do the monthly withdrawal or take it out and put it somewhere else. Of course this alone wont be enough for most people, so one still need to have own savings and investment to supplement this.1 point

Unfortunately that has not been my impression. Was at 117 last week and definitely it isn’t what I remember from 2019 and earlier. But nonetheless I had great time and even met a competitive and handsome men’s physique bodybuilder (among others). About lagoa, was there the week before and had the same feeling, but maybe I’m mixing memories with the old lagoa building.1 point -
Yes, the design and production of the 737-Max was crappy as has been proved by the FAA investigation. But to suggest the crashes were the result of being flown by "developing-world airlines" is frankly nonsense. That has already been proved. Plus there were about 200 prior complaints from US based pilots about problems with the Max which went unaddressed. In the light of the electrical issues addressed in the original post, not only Southwest but also United and American withdrew 17 and 16 Max aircraft respectively from service. The problem was serious enough for the FAA to issue another directive on April 30 stipulating further modifications before the aircraft could fly again. To be fair, that has not stopped Southwest from ordering even more 737-Max aircraft. The fault was eventually traced to poor electrical bonding resulting in improper earthing which could affect certain systems resulting in the loss of critical functions including de-icing. One 737 Max critic has been Ed Pierson, a former Boeing employee who has basically maintained the 737 Max was pushed back into service too quickly. Earlier this year he published a report that explicitly linked production pressures with electrical anomalies and flight control system problems that occurred in both the Lion and Ethiopian crashes prior to the fatal accidents. As he states - “Yes, MCAS caused the airlines to pitch down and crash. But it was an electrical system malfunction that likely caused the angle of attack sensor to send faulty data to MCAS.” He further claims that the 20-month recertification process focused on software design and pilot training but failed to address the impact of production standards at the factory. As for Boeing in general, The Seattle Times has had the most regular and knowledgeable reports throughout the Max crisis. An article on May 9 states - “This latest problem adds to the long litany of missteps currently afflicting Boeing. “Manufacturing flaws have grounded more than 80 of the widebody 787 Dreamliners for months; design flaws mean the vision system on the Air Force’s KC-46 military aerial refueling tanker must be completely revamped; and quality issues have delayed the Starliner spacecraft program. “And in a previously unreported problem, Boeing recently found a potential defect in a batch of 20 to 40 motors that move the horizontal stabilizer on all 737s, including the MAX and earlier models. “This motor — manufactured by Eaton, a supplier headquartered in Ireland — is part of the system that pitches the airplane nose up or nose down. Boeing said seven of the aircraft with a stabilizer motor from the defective batch are MAXs. “Boeing spokesperson Jessica Kowal said the defect potentially affects the reliability of the component. The motor ‘has been replaced in five of the MAXs already and the remaining two airplanes will have the parts replaced before they fly again,’ she said. “Kowal said Boeing is continuing ‘to evaluate any potential impact to the 737 NG fleet.’ “American Airlines spokesperson Sarah Jantz said two MAXs in its fleet had their stabilizer motors replaced as a result of Boeing’s directive, although neither had experienced any issues. (Both those fixed MAXs are now grounded by the new electrical power control unit problem.)” https://www.seattletimes.com/business/boeing-aerospace/boeing-jet-deliveries-in-may-hit-by-latest-787-snag/ It is the problems affecting the 787 that seem the most worrying now. Defects in the joins to the various fuselage sections resulted in deliveries being halted for 5 months at the end of last year. Resumed in March, they were again halted on instructions from the FAA after only two were delivered in May. Now once again the problem seems to be electrical in nature. Boeing has still not resumed deliveries.1 point

Another Sad Cautionary Tale for Retired Expats
billyhouston reacted to PeterRS for a topic
When I left University and started work, I was informed - I believe in some form of leaflet - that the National Insurance contributions of myself and my employer would ensure two things: I would receive the state pension after I had paid in for the required number of years, and I would remain eligible for treatment under the National Health Service. I seem to recall there were three levels of contribution. After I moved overseas to work, I moved down a notch and elected to continue in the scheme by paying my own personal contributions. These were at a fixed amount per year rather than dependent on employment income, since the UK does not tax non residents earning overseas. Some time in the mid 2000s, I wrote to the relevant department just to make sure my contributions were up to date. I got a letter back informing me that I was underfunded and would need to pay an additional £7.38 to ensure my eligibility!! At some point I became aware of the fact that the monthly pension rate would be frozen without indexation the moment I started to withdraw it. Two things of which I was not aware was Margaret Thatcher withdrawing my right to vote because I was living overseas for more than a certain number of years, and then Tony Blair introducing legislation to ensure I would no longer be eligible for National Health Service treatment unless I returned to live in the UK for at least six months each year. No government department informed me about these major changes. We were all just supposed to learn them for ourselves, which is a disgrace. The freezing of the pension of someone living overseas makes absolutely no sense to me. We have contributed in full to the NI scheme. By living abroad we cannot now make use of the National Health Service even if we wanted to unless we do return to the UK. We place no burden on the state, but the state penalises us for reasons it will not give us. And then, having contributed in full to the NI scheme, what possible rationale is there for backdating the denial of eligibility for perhaps an occasional use of the NHS (or for even longer in the case of treatment for a severe illness) in the case of those who were in fact eligible when starting to make contributions? That is even more of a disgrace in my view.1 point -
I started working with a financial planner about 15 years ago and it was one of the best things I ever did. I've been contributing to my workplace's retirement investment scheme which has a 5% matching contribution and that has accumulated quite nicely over the years. But for the rest of my money the financial planner has been very helpful in figuring out where to invest given my risk tolerance and needs. He's good for making sure I don't make any rash moves when things start going south, but I'm also a quite rational thinker so I don't let emotion take over. Having him layout the projections for the future in a relatively conservative way has been very eye-opening and I expect to retire earlier than I had expected to and should have more than enough money to last the rest of my life. It also helps that I work for the federal government which includes a very good pension given how long I've been working there. I know I've been very lucky, but I think I've made pretty good decisions - partly on my own and partly thanks to his advice. Depending on what you need services like this don't necessarily cost a lot and they can pay off. If you have the time to invest in learning about all of this stuff you can do it on your own of course.1 point

Why The Third Wave and Where Are The Vaccines?
splinter1949 reacted to reader for a topic
From Reuters / BP Novavax vaccine more than 90% effective in US trial Novavax Inc on Monday reported late-stage data from its US-based clinical trial showing its vaccine is more than 90% effective against Covid-19 across a variety of variants of the virus. The study of nearly 30,000 volunteers in the United States and Mexico puts Novavax on track to file for emergency authorisation in the United States and elsewhere in the third quarter of 2021, the company said. Novavax's protein-based Covid-19 vaccine candidate was more than 93% effective against the predominant variants that have been of concern among scientists and public health officials, Novavax said. Protein-based vaccines are a conventional approach that use purified pieces of the virus to spur an immune response and vaccines again whooping cough and shingles employ this approach. During the trial, the B.1.1.7 variant first discovered in the United Kingdom became the most common variant in the United States, it said. Novavax also detected variants of Covid-19 first found in Brazil, South Africa and India among its trial participants, Novavax's head of research and development, Gregory Glenn, told Reuters. https://www.bangkokpost.com/world/2132215/novavax-vaccine-more-than-90-effective-in-us-trial1 point -

Buenos Aires, Argentina. June/July 2021

The more I walk around Palermo, the more happy I am at my choice. After so many years in Recoleta, it is awesome to be back at home but, at the same time, to experience a different Buenos Aires. This is an area that had a lot of redevelopment after I left. There are many skyscrapers, crystal luxury department buildings next to family houses mostly from the 50s and 60s, although there are also older gems. It is not unusual to find buildings like this corner: A traditional house built probably at the ending of the XIX, beginning of the XX century, refurnished and repainted to get a contemporaneous look. My favorite finding was an accident. My boy Y ran out of the anesthesic (dilocaína) lotion he needs for his ass to take my cock, so we had to look for a pharmacy. In our way to the one where I had bought Viagra a couple of days ago, we found this wonder: I am not an architect, but that building is probably from the 1920s. And who knows when they cleaned those walls for the last time. The inside was just as old and outdated as the outside. A flashback in time that is not usual in this city anymore. The pharmacist is an old man, probably around 80, who needed a long time to move around and deliver an order. He probably is the son of the original pharmacist who opened the business. Surely, he is the last one to keep this pharmacy open. Soon they will be kicked out of the market by the modern uniformed pharmacy chains flourishing all over the city. I guess you have heard about how good ice cream is in Argentina. I have never been in Italy, but I am told by Italians that it is almost as good as their famous gelato. I stopped by one of the best Gelato chains in the city, Volta. Take a look at those prices! I bought 1 Kg of delicious creamy pleasure for only 12 bucks at official rate, 7.70 at blue. Perhaps is more expensive than USA ice cream, but you cannot compare. If you want a fair comparison, compare this ice cream to an orgasm. I keep checking out my favorite dishes out of my To Eat list. Last night, was the turn for milanesas argentinas auténticas. Finally, to honor TGIF, I tried my first contract with a local escort, Ander. I was actually expecting to start next week, because Grindr has my dick smoking. It was an accident. I was checking profiles in Scruff, and saw this Colombian guy who I already had in my To Do List. I hit him as a regular hook up and he responded telling me he was an escort. I decided to keep playing the game "I did not know you". We quickly closed a deal for $AR 5,000 (51 bucks official/32 Blue). The guy was amazing. I offered him a photo session, and he told me he will think about it. I will wait for his response to write and publish a detailed review in the blog. Just as a spoiler, he was absolutely recommendable. Pleasing and at the same time demanding, passionate, voracious and uninhibited, indeed I will see him again with or without photo session. I was actually planning to hire first Douglas, to start with someone I already know. I even contacted him to check his fee. He charges only $AR 2,500 (U$S 26/16). However, after he told me his fee he vanished. I am still struggling with finding a productive routine. I still have to telework until the 18th, and the city closes down at 8pm because of the pandemic. The government just announced new protocols, less strict, and starting next week the city will close at 11pm. When I am traveling, I usually write in the mornings. This time I will probably do as I am doing right now. Once the city closes down, if I have energy, I will write.1 point
