A Sao Paulo Interlude Ugh. I got derailed with the posts because life just got busy. With the USA fast opening and personal stuff with my own life getting in the way (read: I am finding new distractions), I both haven't had the time to update this thread or go to Brazil in the same frequency as since Brazil opened up in July. I will still update when I can, or maybe not, we shall definitely see. But I do find my self in Brazil this Memorial Day week (in the USA) for some reason. I've chosen Sao Paulo as my main location for this trip (for now), based on the two positive days I spent in the beginning of May before I headed back home. I have frequented Rio since December, and even with the never-boring charms of Rio's beaches and boys, I have to admit that I have become bored with the tedium of the 117 and 202 merry-go-round. While some American friends have introduced me to the very specific charms of Meio Mundo (probably due for a post at some point), it is time for me to concentrate on Sao Paulo. A lot has changed since I was in Brazil about 4 weeks ago. I have found a country that is more restless, more fed-up, and possibly ready to burst at any moment. And probably because I am in Sao Paulo, a city that is less touristy than Rio, it is harder to paint over the seams that are forming from the suffering of its citizens with the whiplash of COVID restrictions, with the lack of good paying jobs, and the slow rollout of vaccination. I met up with my gorgeous ex in my first few days here, and even with the distraction of the always great sauna Lagoa, which has been busy these days, I cannot ignore the other things that are happening. A casual stroll in Paulista Avenue on tis gloomy Sunday revealed some interesting street graffiti: "Out with Bolsonaro" "Down with the dictatorship" "The Emergency Assistance is not enough to buy food." "Out with Bozo" While passing by the "Fora Bozo" graffiti, I explained to my ex that "Bozo" was a name of a famous clown in the USA. The ex says its the same in Brazil, and for him, Bozo is a fitting name for Bolsonaro because he thinks he is also a clown. A sad state of affairs in Brazil for sure. Pretty worse than normal, even. That's probably why there is always more boys than clients in the sauna. So hopefully, next, I will continue with the Rio posts...6 points

From Thai Enquirer Hospitals restrict vaccine registration amid supply concerns The Chulabhorn Royal Academy (CRA) and several private hospitals were closing their registration procedures for vaccination against the Covid-19 virus on Monday. The Center for Covid-19 Situation Administration (CCSA) last week asked people to “slow down” their vaccine registration via the Mor Phrom Application due to limited supply of vaccines. The locally produced AstraZeneca vaccine will reportedly not be delivered in June as scheduled. The CRA announced online that their registration has reached capacity, and it will not be registering any new patients to ensure vaccines are allocated to those who have registered. ================================================= Opinion: Corporations have chosen to remain open, it will cost lives and suffering By Cod Satrusayang Over the last two weeks, Thai companies have been questioned over Covid-19 outbreaks in their workplace. Construction firms have seen a spike in the number of cases in construction sites while factories have been closed due to outbreaks. The biggest names in Thai industry have been implicated including Sino-Thai Constructions, Italian-Thai Development, and now Charoen Pokphand. On Sunday, CP Foods announced the closure of one of its factories in Saraburi after 245 people tested positive for the virus. Their other 18 factories will remain open. It is interesting to note that even at the height of the Covid-19 crisis, firms like Sino-Thai and CP kept their factories and sites open to keep the bottom line as unaffected and their shareholders as happy as possible. Even when there are real human costs. The Covid-19 pandemic currently has a mortality rate of around 2 per cent. That number is less in Thailand but that is a testament to the fine doctors and nurses in our public health services. But the fact remains, people will die. Thousands have now been infected because these factories have stayed open, because best practices in keeping the workplaces safe have not been introduced, and because of corporate greed. Choosing to remain open, to keep building, keep processing, and keep working will cost people their lives. People have died, are dying, and will keep dying because these CEOs and business leaders that we venerate in the back pages of Thailand Tatler have chosen to value the bottom line more than human lives. It should not be surprising for longtime observers of Thailand that his is happening. This is a country where corporations rule supreme. Above politics, above government, above the rule of law, corporations operate on another plain in Thai society. But unlike other abuses in the past, both human and environmental – the effects of corporate greed have been laid bare for all to see during the coronavirus pandemic. The human costs aren’t hidden away in the margins of court rulings and knock-on environmental effects that manifest themselves decades later. So far, these corporations have not said whether or not they would support the families of workers who died through their negligence. From the BBC website Sunday 30 May Vietnam has detected a Covid variant that appears to be a combination of the Indian and UK variants and can spread quickly in the air, officials say. Vietnam's Health Minister Nguyen Thanh Long described the latest mutation on Saturday as "very dangerous". ... Mr. Nguyen said the new hybrid variant was more transmissible than previously known versions, especially in the air. He said it was discovered after running tests on newly infected patients, online newspaper VnExpress reported. He added that the genetic code of the virus would be made available soon.1 point

Just returned from a few days in Alicante/Benidorm. A few nice guys in Hunqz and in Grindr you will find the occasional (hot) Columbian scorts - quite easy to spot IMO. Most will ask 100 Eur/hour and some will provide quote for 30min (50-60 Eur). Quotes in Hunqz will be slightly higher. I didn't go into price negotiation so I can't say if price reductions are possible. 50 Eur for a hot Colombian scort (30min) seems very reasonable though.1 point -
In this pandemic it seems all governments everywhere are making some moronic decisions and I can't even blame them for keeping trying to find what works the best but you are right anddy - they should consult with each other instead of waging turf wars on the backs of general population , already heavily affected . Our government where I'm made mistakes too but at least if they introduce rule it stays for a good while and if they cancel it , so does cancellation so at least we are not subject of cancellation. Rules about wearing mask in public stay the same since July 1st last year, my sister lives in different country and they had at least 4 changes in meantime1 point

Vietnam will now test all 13 million inhabitants of ho Chi Minh City in response to the discovery of the new variant of the covid 19 virus. Shops and restaurants will be closed for 15 days and new social distancing rules will be put in place. Vietnam's latest spike accounts for over half the total number of cases in the country. Even so, it still remains far better than most with just over 7,000 infections and 47 deaths. According to the BBC, this new variant first appeared in a cluster of 125 cases attending a Christian Mission in the city. https://www.bbc.com/news/world-asia-573033061 point

Members here have speculated on the future of Lagoa, Point, 117, etc. Online competition. Altered social engagement contexts. The population and age pyramid trends point to an overall increasing growth of 15% from 2010-2030. Moreover a marked increase in the so called ‘silver economy’ demographic. That is, significantly increasing numbers of middle-age-and-up queer men outgrowing nightclub options, if that was even their thing, and needing a more conventional, beyond virtual, outlet on weekend evenings. Many are single, with few socializing opportunities within their orientation. All this likely transcending the ravages of COVID. Savvy business in Brazil is mindful of the bulging proportional population share of older folks. I think there will be constancy in demand for a range of entertainment venue outings. I am counting on it. FullSizeRender.mov1 point -
I have not read any reference to this article in other news sources. Hope it to bears fruit. ============================================ From the Phnom Penh Post Five of the six Greater Mekong Subregion (GMS) countries – Cambodia, China, Laos, Thailand and Vietnam – are willing to welcome tourists fully-vaccinated against Covid-19 to their shores amid the pandemic, in an effort to kick-start a recovery in the tourism market dampened by Covid-19. The commitment was conveyed on May 27 during the 47th meeting of the tourism working group, comprised of representatives of GMS countries and Metro Manila-based Asian Development Bank. Myanmar seemingly took no part in the meeting. At the meeting, Ministry of Tourism director-general for Tourism Development and International Cooperation Sieng Neak shared Cambodia’s key strategies, as outlined in the 2021-2025 three-phased national tourism roadmap – approved by Prime Minister Hun Sen on April 1, and ministerial plans to allow fully-vaccinated international tourists to enter the Kingdom with little or no quarantine stay. “The meeting has agreed upon the draft of the Mekong Tourism Communication Recovery Plan to produce the right messages about tourism and select the right channels in order to promote tourism in the subregion to the right market,” he said later that day. Neak also presented an update on tourism infrastructure and management capacity in coastal areas in Cambodia’s southwest, stressing that all work is being carried out in line with ASEAN tourism standards. Khmer Angkor Tour Guide Association president Khieu Thy told The Post that reopening the Kingdom to foreign tourists would be a dream for the tourism industry. Suffering a dearth of international visitors for well over a year, Thy pointed out that the tourism sector also faces an unprecedented shortage of professionals and skilled tradespeople. "If Cambodia were to reopen to foreign tourists in the fourth quarter, that'd likely restore jobs and income for those working in the sector," he said. A tourism ministry report revealed that 1,306,143 international tourists visited Cambodia last year, down 80.2 per cent from 6,610,592 in 2019. Last year’s decline in international tourist arrivals cost the Cambodian tourism industry more than $3 billion lost in revenue, with revenues from international tourism generating only $1.023 billion in 2020, down 79.2 per cent compared to $4.919 billion in 2019. https://phnompenhpost.com/business/gms-countries-mull-welcoming-vaccinated-visitors1 point

I don't know. But I believe a mass demonstration against a government is not a case of losing face. Thailand has had many such demonstrations, many involving students and some as in 1972/3 and 1992 ending in bloodshed. The same is true in China. Large anti-corruption and general anti-government demonstrations had been a not uncommon occurrence in Tiananmen Square prior to 1989. Would South Korea have got rid of dictators without years of mass student demonstrations? Japan regularly has militaristic right-wing demonstrations even today. All that is very different from one boy/man making a specific allegation against another older individual where all individuals involved and the case itself being publicly identified in the media.1 point

From Thompson Reuters Foundation News Bangkok's micro homes: a model for slum dwelling in COVID-19? Newly built micro homes helped residents brave a surge of the coronavirus, and could be a model for a planned redevelopment By Rina Chandran BANGKOK, May 21 (Thomson Reuters Foundation) - Flimsy shacks of tin and ply have given way to sleek, painted newbuilds - small, clean and leak-free - in Bangkok's biggest slum, creating model homes and a blueprint for city development. That's if community leader Surawat Krabsomboon and other residents can defeat plans to bulldoze much of Klong Toey slum and make way for the sort of gentrification transforming the Thai capital. "We were living in broken houses and were unable to afford to repair the houses," Krabsomboon told the Thomson Reuters Foundation from his home in the city's oldest slum. "But we did not want to live like that - we wanted better homes, better amenities," said the 29-year-old Thai, making the case for thousands more micro homes to replace the dilapidation that has mushroomed without design over decades. "These houses have allowed us to remain here, and relieved the burden of residents when they had to stay home during the lockdown and could not go out," he said. Klong Toey's slum, an area of about one square mile in the heart of the city, is home to nearly 100,000 people, mostly rural migrants from northern Thailand, many of whom came to the city decades ago for jobs at the nearby Bangkok port. They stayed on even as those jobs dried up and the area around them boomed with plush malls and high-rise blocks Krabsomboon had tried many times to fix their housing - the shacks are like saunas in summer and leak rain in the monsoon. Now, with help from a charitable foundation and a top Bangkok architect, dozens of residents have new homes where their tired shacks once leaned - with sturdy steel frames, insulated roofs and fire-resistant floors of fibre cement board. The micro homes, funded by the Charoen Pokphand Foundation, have helped residents brave the pandemic, and could be a model for the larger planned redevelopment of the slum, said Surawat. But the Port Authority of Thailand, which owns much of the land on which residents built their shacks illegally, wants to clear the slum to make way for office and commercial blocks, tourist spots and a modern transport and logistics hub. About 12,000 households must relocate - either to a new high-rise complex nearby, to plots about 30 km (19 miles) away, or take a cash compensation and move elsewhere, authorities say. The plan is opposed by residents who say their lives and livelihoods will be affected, and that the small flats on offer will not suit large families, or people with shops or chickens that roam the narrow alleyways. Most residents work in construction, as street vendors and as motorbike taxi riders ferrying people around the city of about eight million, and say they need to stay local to earn. "Development is needed, better homes and living conditions are needed, but they must first listen to the community and their needs," said Prateep Ungsongtham, founder of the Duang Prateep Foundation that runs a charitable school in Klong Toey. "If the redevelopment happens without that, then this community will disappear and this will become just like any other expensive neighbourhood in Bangkok with no place for the poor people who serve the city," she said. Call Me by Your Name author ‘humbled’ by Lil Nas X’s unapologetically gay tribute Maggie Baska April 6, 2021 (Photo by Leonardo Cendamo/Getty Images/YouTube/Lil Nas X) Call Me By Your Name author André Aciman says it is “gratifying” and “humbling” that his gay novel could have the “slightest influence” on how Lil Nas X decided to name his hit song. “Montero (Call Me By Your Name)” has taken the world by storm, inspiring countless memes and classic TikTok videos. The unapologetically gay song drew 46.9 million US streams and sold 21,000 downloads in its first week, according to MRC Data, and attracted 1.1 million radio airplay audience impressions in the week ending 4 April. Lil Nas X’s hit has also reached the top of the Billboard Hot 100 charts on Monday (5 April), less than two weeks after its debut. The hit song shared the title of the 2007 gay romance novel by Aciman, which led to the subsequent 2017 film starring Armie Hammer and Timothée Chalamet. The song doesn’t take its direct inspiration from the Call Me By Your Name novel or the film, but Aciman said it was “humbling” that Lil Nas X used the phrase. Them contacted André Aciman last year when Lil Nas X first teased about “Montero (Call Me By Your Name)” in July. Aciman sent Them an emailed statement heaping praise on the Grammy-winning rapper. “If Call Me by Your Name had even the slightest influence on Lil Nas X’s music, then that’s beyond anything I could have ever imagined or hoped for,” Aciman said. “It’s gratifying, it’s humbling and it reminds me that how others relate to and interpret this novel is often more meaningful than the actual words on the page.” Aciman told Them that his son had introduced him to Lil Nas X after he “kept hearing” about this song – “Old Town Road” – “at the gym”. He said: “I wanted to download it on Spotify. “After a series of bad imitations and descriptions, he was finally able to figure out what I was talking about: ‘Old Town Road’.”1 point

Egypt trip report 2020
AsianExplorer reacted to traveller312 for a topic
You are very correct pylonguy71. I have taken some big risks, and if I am totally honest, sometimes I look back at what I have done and think the amount of risk was just foolish, but something inside sometimes makes me take these risks! The episode with the 2 guys in Aswan for example made me reflect what danger I could have easily been in, and for a few days I refrained from doing anything similar, but just like a drug, I go back to my old ways, and the adventure in life continues. As I mentioned previously not everything has turned out how I would have liked, and I have had plenty of refusals, plenty of hostile reactions and plenty of wasted money, but visiting North African countries would not be the adventure it is, with out these experiences. These are just some of the encounters I had in Egypt, but I have also visited Tunisia, Morocco, and Israel and all have there own unique flavour in lives great adventure.1 point -
I was conflicted on whether to continue with this thread in the midst of the worsening COVID outlook in Brazil. Not even able to pursue a competent response to the pandemic has been deadly to the country, and as I left Brazil a few days ago, I saw that even Rio de Janeiro, which was fairly resistant to any kind of lockdown since things reopened in mid-2020, having to shut down till April 4th. A report, if you are interested: And I felt particularly guilty because as I see the USA kicking ass in terms of vaccination against the virus, I get message after message from friends and boys back in Brazil, ranging from slight irritation because of the lockdowns and the lack of parties, to desperation because the saunas are closed and therefore their main source of income is cut off. I am scheduled to go back in the latter half of April, and I have no idea if the COVID situation would be any better by then. I do hope so. But I guess that is the point, is all I can do is hope right now. And by continuing on with this thread, I feel that I am continuing that hope for myself, and maybe for others that are waiting patiently to go back as well, and who are not as willing to take the risks I have taken since August of last year. If my risk-taking seems too much for you, maybe read this thread after everything is back to normal, as we all hope it would, eventually. Pre Christmas days – The Ghost of Rio Past I have now spent the last 3 Christmases and the New Years in South America, and this year 2020, even with the pandemic still very much a thing, was no different. And can you blame me? Exchanging the cold weather and the bulkier clothes, for a much hotter, more festive, and much more naked atmosphere is a no brainer. And Christmas means family to a most Brazilians, and I was not going to pass up an invitation by an ex-boyfriend to spend Christmas dinner with his sister and her family. In my previous trip earlier in December, I was contacted by an ex who happened to be in SP too. This ex has the special distinction of being my very first boyfriend who lived in Brazil. We dated for six months, and in that time, being my formative months in my Brazil trips, I’ve probably learned the most about Brazil, and Brazilians, from him. There are many advantages of dating a Brazilian - the giant cock, the insatiable appetite for sex, the patented zest for life, but with that come some faults – the famous temper, the fire within that burns you at both ends, the obsessiveness. The relationship ended because the endless fights just became untenable for both of us. But he was a good guy, and has a good heart, and when he reached out almost two years after we ended, I was eager to reconnect. I’ve talked about him, Diego, here and here. He was a Garoto de Programa when I met him. He was one of those Brazilians who had an interesting racial mix that was fairly common in Brazil, and who unfairly got most of the best parts of each race – fair skin that tanned easily, light green eyes that called attention, a desire for physical activity that resulted in a perpetually fit body, and a cock that would only have descended from his… ahem… darker-skinned ancestors. The one fault, which is not really a fault, but one he hates, is his curly hair. He gets his hair straightened with blonde highlights, almost weekly when he was working as a boy. But now, having quit the GP life for a year, he has let go of this conceit, tho he maintains his hair close cropped, which suits him. He said he had to quit the GP life. The money was good, but also deadly. He earned a lot so he spent a lot – most of the time on girls and drugs and booze. The fast life caught to him eventually, health-wise, so he had to quit the whole GP life altogether. He lives now with his family, helping out with the family business. Little money, but comes with little problems, and less stress. He insisted on picking me up at the airport as I arrived in Rio, which he has never done before. As I exited the arrivals area, there he was, smiling from ear to ear. He met me halfway, and kissed me squarely in the lips, in front of everyone. When I first dated him, he was pretty clear that no one was to know publicly that we were together. He said at the beginning of our relationship that one of the advantages of dating me was I could pass as his friend in public because we didn’t look too far in age. That both flattered me (I look young!) and horrified me (he is ashamed to be seen as gay!), but I was willing to overlook that. But here he was, practically humping my leg, as we make our way to the Uber level in Galeao airport. This was indeed a change. But I made him aware that I had a boyfriend already (see thread), and also I fully intended to go to the saunas while I was in Rio, but told him that he could keep me company and could stay with me as long as I was in Rio. He said he didn’t mind going to the saunas with me, and actually would relish seeing friends from his past life there. Upon arrival at the AirBNB at Copacabana, since he was Brazilian, it was physically impossible for him to keep his shirt on. The sight of him shirtless of course was too much to bear for me. So with the shirt came the pants as well. He takes off my own clothing too, and it took all my strength to go to the bathroom to take a shower first (I was after all coming from a long flight from the USA, so I had to clean up). He joined me there to start the fun. What came next well… let’s just say we made up for lost time. A shower, then lunch at one of the nearby restaurants, we of course went to the beach afterwards. Not even 2 hours in Rio and I already had sex, eaten feijoada, and had my caipirinha in Copacabana beach. Welcome to Brazil: Diego and I got to catch up further at the beach. And after the beach, it was almost 6 PM. So my usual afternoon nap after a flight did not happen. So I just downed a couple cans of Red Bull to get through the evening. Diego and I discussed what sauna we should go. Diego recommended going to Lion’s tonight, since he said Friday nights were Lion’s best night. I told him I was not particularly fond of that sauna, but since I had a week of freedom in Rio, I guess I can try to go there. There was a nice crowd inside when we got there. Thank goodness. Lots of customers with lots of drinks, and some boys milling about as well. Looks like the holiday crowd has descended upon Rio. This was definitely a change from motnhs ago, when the Rio saunas were dead. The boys that Lions attracts usually are too boy-next-door for me, but I could see tonight that there were some promising boys that I could see going out with. Diego was still holding his own too, as it was obvious the regular clients and some boys knew him. He was saying hi to some clients and boys in the premises, as well as the staff at Lions. As the night, and the booze, got on, he had some pretty juicy gossip about the staff, boys, and even some clients present, to share with me, which made the evening more enjoyable. And he assured me that I could just call on any boy I wanted and he would just remain where he was, waiting for me to finish. The show started, and it was pretty elaborate. There was a total of 4 strippers tonight, and 6 drag queens, which to me felt like a big production. In between the 3rd and 4th drag queens, I noticed a nice young-looking moreno walk past us. He was trying to get my attention, of course, and I took the bait and called him over to sit with us. His body was to die for. Nice tone arms, 8 ack abs, nice chest, and the cutest smile. Big plump ass. Smooth all over. He was 23 (the magic age), and was very generous with his body to just show me what he was about. He guided my hand under the towel to get a feel of his cock. “Sou versatile” he says the magic words. I was sold. I tell Diego I will be right back. At Lion’s, while the downstairs stage and bar area are renovated, the upstairs suites were not, and were kind of run down. It will do the job, however. The boy gets me the suite keys and some condoms and lube. We entered the suite, and the boy excuses himself and asks if he could shower and get clean. I could not argue with that. I lay down on the bed to wait. A few minutes later, he was ready, emerging from the bathroom naked, smelling amazing, and hard. He takes my clothes off and immediately sits on my groin to start of. He leans down to kiss me, deeply. This boy knows what he is doing. When it comes to these programas, I can be game for anything. Sometimes I am game for worshiping a muscle god, sometimes I like getting serviced and let the boy earn his programa money. But the sweet spot for me is a boy who was equal parts into getting you into him, as he is getting into you. He sucked me, I sucked him. He rimmed me and I rimmed him. When it came to the main course, I opted to top him, but he called the shots, riding me and calling the shots and making the thrusts. I was so turned on that I came while he was thursting on me up and down, a rarity for me. “Leite?” he asks. Of course, I answer. He gets off my dick, feeds his still hard cock on my mouth, pulls out, and then jacks off. 30 seconds later he shoves his dick back into my mouth and comes inside. Wowza. He kisses me afterwards, our kiss was a mix of saliva and some of his cum that I did not swallow. He takes the condom from my cock and disposes of it, and cuddles with me in the bed. We exchange some pleasantries and get to know each other, and we exchange numbers as well. 200 reais. After a shower to de-whore myself, I was back in Diego’s arms. He playfully puts his hand on my crotch and asks me if the boy was good. I kiss him and told him he was good. We enjoy the rest of the evening watching the show and having more beers. We get home and after laying down with Diego in bed, I immediately fall asleep. I was exhausted. I wake up in the middle of the night, with a naked Diego snoring next to me. This was going to be a good trip. Next, 117, 202, and more Lions.1 point

Having fun ,even went to the beach a few times (I'm like a vampire). Lot's of guys on Grindr, still gotta watch out for photoshopped and fake pics...but 10-20 usd is the ballpark that most MB are asking for, a few higher but they drop down after you say too much. I'd say 60% MB and the rest looking for fun or possible BF. I feel like Indonesian guys are how I remember it being in BKK 15-20 yrs ago.....even with MB, it doesn't feel so transactional. No discussion of long time or short time, if you get along with each other, a dinner or movie ...there's no further discussion about more money or buying them things (cell phones, laptops, motorbike). No stories about mother or the family cow dying either. in Bali there are 4 gay bars next to each other and a number of massage places...beach restaurants/bars are open until midnight, so nice listening to music and watching the sunset into the night sky on the beach. Lots of great restaurants, many Italian with amazing food. I'm spending 1/3 of what I spend in Thailand and still having as much fun and sex (maybe more).1 point -

Was supposed to leave tomorrow for Brasil....I've had both vaccines (Moderna) and the last few days I thought I had a cold or flu, got tested today for the trip and it was positive for Covid. Hearing many people being vaccinated yet asymptomatic , yet I had symptoms. So, I'm not being very optimistic about cruises re-opening and latest reports of Asian countries having more outbreaks.....Cancun is going into red stage Tomorrow.......0 points -

Barcelona: Homophobic attacks spark outcry

From the BBC A gay rights group in the Catalonia region of north-eastern Spain has warned of increasing incidents of homophobia following attacks in Barcelona over the weekend. The Observatory Against Homophobia (OCH) said five gay men had been injured in three separate attacks. In the most serious incident, a man needed facial surgery after he and his friends were attacked on a beach. Police are investigating but have not made any arrests, local media reported. Local politicians took to social media to condemn the attacks. "We will never normalise this situation," tweeted the city council's head of citizenship rights, Marc Serra Solé. OCH president Eugeni Rodríguez said the incident on Barcelona's Somorrostro Beach involved two gay couples who were set upon by three men. The men approached them and insulted them and then attacked them after checking no police officers were in the area, Mr Rodríguez said, according to the Spanish EFE news agency. The most seriously injured victim underwent surgery on Sunday. Mr Rodríguez called the incident "barbaric" and said the number of homophobic attacks was rising. https://www.bbc.com/news/world-europe-573006400 points
