Day 1 - Wednesday April 14th - The Arrival We arrive in Santo Domingo Airport and Manny is there there to pick us up personally. I, as most of you know, an already in Thailand as a long term expat resident. From where I sit, the only certainty is uncertainty. Every time I turn around, the rules change and/or the requirements for entering Thailand change. I suppose we all can try to guess when farang can go to Thailand again, for all the good that will do, but I believe it all depends on how well Thailand is able to bring Covid under control and how well, vaccine or no vaccine, other countries bring Covid under control. The next question - even if Thailand were to open for tourists tomorrow, you would be coming to what? The bars are all closed. You already can see most of the available boys on the apps - the rest of them have long since returned to their home provinces and obviously are not going back to Bangkok, Pattaya, or anywhere else to work in the bars if the bars are closed. Another factor the boys have to consider - if the bars reopen, how long will they stay open before yet another shutdown. And how many customers will there be to take them off? You can't drink in bars right now because they're all closed. In restaurants, the ones still open, you can't enjoy a glass of wine with your meal. Just about everything now closes at 9:00pm. Social distancing, wearing face masks, and use of apps such as Thai Chana are all requirements - and if you know what's good for you, you better comply. Many hotels are closed. Even if you make a booking for a hotel, can you be certain it will still be open when you arrive? And they too have their own social distancing rules. And their swimming pools are now closed. For the time being, there are also many rules and regulations if you intend to travel from one province to another, and they all have their own rules. As a long term resident I still am very happy I am in Thailand, but my life, for one, is vastly different from being in Thailand as a tourist. My life is well established. I have no need for most of what farang tourists come to Thailand for. I am sorry for coming across so pessimistically, but this is how I am seeing things appearing to be.

There are lots and lots of expats in Thailand channels on YT. I recently came across this channel by this nellie but apparently straight British guy who picked a terrible time to try and tour the country by motorscooter. He's been in the far south lately which has been interesting. For those of us missing Thailand it's fun to see the country and his videos are pretty good quality. He also has a couple of good videos on real estate in Chiang Mai.

From The Thaiger The Thai Immigration’s online system for 90 day checks for foreigners living in Thailand is back up and running. So we’re told anyway. Expats should now be able to report their address every 3 months online rather than in person or by mail. The announcement was made on the immigration bureau’s Facebook page and was written in Thai. Just yesterday, a spokesperson from the Centre for Covid-19 Situation Administration said they recommend that foreigners mail in their 90 day reports while the system is down. I grew up to where boys hair had to be short and if not, the principal would cut it. No earrings, no painted nails, etc. It was very conservative. That is in the 1980's. On April 16, Amazon will air a new historical drama, Leonardo, about the life of the great painter. It is now well known and documented that Leonardo was gay. Until about 25 years ago I knew absolutely nothing about this 15th century painter who was arguably the most important painter of the early Renaissance period. Today his few works continue to amaze me. I came across him completely by surprise. Good friends of mine had bought an old farmhouse on a hill about 20 minutes west of Arezzo in Umbria. One summer three friends and I went to stay in their beautifully decorated home. On our first evening, we had a barbecue by the swimming pool. In the early evening light, the fields stretching down were filled with wild poppies and the fireflies started to come out. Eventually we could see the lights from hilltop Renaissance towns far in the distance. Quite magical! Nearby is the town of Sansepolchro. We decided to visit the Museum. Here are several paintings by Piero dell Francesca as he was born in the town around 1415, the exact date is not known. I was captivated. Later painters were known for their use of perspective and light, but Piero's predated them all. To cut a long story short, I returned to stay with my friends a couple of years later. By then I knew more about Piero and there was one painting I was determined to see, The Flagellation of Christ. The art historian Sir Kenneth Clark had had named it "the greatest small painting in the world." It is located in the small Museum in the town of Urbino, about 2 hours drive from where I was staying. So I drove over. How to describe the painting. Small it certainly is. It is also displayed flat because it was actually painted on a table top around 1470. At first sight it seems lop sided with the figures on the right taking most of the attention away from Pontius Pilate watching Christ's flagellation by a Roman soldier on the left. Who are these large figures? Who is the young man between the older men? Why is Christ not the focus of the painting as would usually be the case around the time it was painted? Many theories have been presented as to the meaning of the characters and the composition. To start, I believe these are less important than the painting itself. Piero's use of light and the source of that light was to become typical in many Renaissance paintings. His use of perspective is far more advanced than in the works of other contemporary painters. It is his use of geometry, though, that marks this painting as extraordinary. At first we hardly notice this. Rather than my explaining it in writing, this video below goes into simple detail that illustrates the extraordinary geometric relationships within the painting. Unfortunately it is narrated by a man with a boring delivery. So skip the first part where he is giving some of the allegorical significances of the painting and its figures. Instead, start at 3'38" - and prepare to be amazed! As the narrator points out, Piero was a mathematician. I cannot think of any other painting where geometry and maths plays such a major part.

Last time I was in Athens I stayed quite close to Omonia Square. It was three years ago, and although I talked to a few Syrian guys around the square, like my previous trip to Istanbul, I was too nervous to take any of them back. I realise now I was looking in the wrong side of the square. I approached the square from the south west, from the Pireos Street end, and the evening I went there I didnt head to it until about 11.00 pm. He pointed to the arcade and said “I sleep there, no money for food, Greece very hard for refugees”. He looked at me pleadingly. However, he had unwitting spooked me even more by making it clear to me that my movements around the square were being monitored by the hustlers, and the smell of desperation off him was a massive boner-killer. I pressed a five Euro note in his hand and almost ran back down Pireos St. In the end I hired a guy off Hunqz. I saw a guy offering massages for €40. I decided to go for him as I thought that not much would have been spent if it doesnt work out well. It turns out it was a “straight” married guy who was trying to earn a bit of money on the side. He told me he was unemployed and he made some money by teaching himself how to do massages and he mainly did massages for an amateur football team! I thought this sounded suspiciously like a set-up for a porn film, but decided to go with the flow. His English wasn’t that great but I gathered that while he had gotten clients from other sites before, I first client from Hunqz. I started to wonder (a bit crazily) that maybe he was a straight masseur who had set up a profile on Hunqz without realising quite what sort of site it was... Either way, by then I didn’t think much is going to happen so I said nothing about sex, and let him get down to business. I streamed Consequences on Amazon Prime. Slovenia. Nice looking guys. The lead is really good. A tough story. Reviews were mixed. I'd give it a B minus.

We really enjoyed the first season of Upload on Amazon Prime. It is a cross between existential horror and dark comedy in a slightly future world. Robbie Amell is very easy on the eyes too.

This shop enjoys the primo location at Silom rd. And soi 4. The facilities, all located on the third floor, are clean and serviceable and at 450 an hour for an oil massage, it’s a great value. Have been using it since it opened and have never been shortchanged on the clock. I really miss Costa Rica, I visited in 2016. In San Jose I stayed firstly at Trip San Jose Sabana, very good and confortable (it was a business trip, so I didn’t enjoyed much during first days), but then I moved to the 2 last nights (Free time) to a a cute old Hotel in Downtown where I was advised that the gay action take place, I didn’t visit any especial place but I had one of the best fucks of my life.
