And it's a lovely time of year because many trees and plants begin to blossom. These were taken on a short walk near my apartment this morning.

I love the bars because I like looking. I can find guys on the Apps but it is not as enjoyable for me as a night walking around and looking at GoGo boys. I guess this goes way back to NYC and Montreal and my love for strippers. It has been something I enjoyed for decades. That said, I do think the sex can be just as good with either group. I see the GoGo Bars as slowly fading but don't think they will be gone in the next few years. I think there is still a big market for it in Bangkok and Thailand in general.

Gay Bangkok is slowly coming back to life. And, by slowly, I mean really slowly. Jupiter Boy and I took a night out tonight and things were pretty quiet on both Papong and Silom 4. A few updates. Narawat Massage on Silom 4 is open and guys are outside working. Banana Room is open with a few guys there. Telephone and Balcony are both open with some customers. Hugs is open. Private Bar is open. Jupiter was open but few guys working. Lucky Boys is not open and rumor has it that it may not open anytime soon and may even get sold. Dream Boys was open with about 15 guys but not a lot of variety. Screwboys was closed. Fresh Boys was open and had 8 guys and 1 other customer. Some cute guys and drinks 350 baht. Hotmale was open and had 5 boys when we were there. Moonlight was closed. Tawan was closed but the Sun Massage was open and several of the Tawan guys were out on the street. Mango Tree Restaurant was open but I think for a private party. Super A was closed. Nature Boys was open. When I pulled up Hornet, there were about 90 guys under 25 without 3,000 feet. One of them caught our attention while we were looking and he was near the Starbucks so we met him and took him home. The Grab Taxi there did not allow for us to be picked up as no drivers available. The same on the return. It was odd. The road were VERY quiet and few cars anywhere. This was the first weekend with all the bars open and still a soft opening IMHO. But, it only takes one and thus, Hornet was a good provider tonight.

I enjoy the gogo bars, but the expensive drinks and the pushiness starts to wear after a while. Like many, I'm flush enough, but a billionaire I am not. The number of women in the bars seems to continue to grow, and the preference some of the boys have for them to the exclusion of male customers is a turn-off. One does want an escort to at least make some attempt to make you feel desired. At least on the apps, you don't have to buy an expensive drink before being told by the mamasan that the guy you are interested in thinks he's worth 5K for a short. (Happened at Jupiter, I laughed and left and crossed it off my list for subsequent nights.)

Not sure if members here know of the Phare Circus project in Siem Reap. I first came across it in an article in one of the free gay magazines in BKK (such as Thai Puan, can't remember which one it was though). It is a project that helps with the education of local kids and getting them off the streets through arts and circus. I have visited the show in their actual circus tent in Siem Reap in March 2018. I visited soi 4 last night and what a pleasant surprise. Busy just like the old days. Every bar (except Welcome Bar) was open and busy. Jupiter open again. Banana open again Hugs open again. Strangers Bar open again. Balcony Pub had Aomam the lady singer. Pride had a singer guitarist. Stranger was packed into the soi like the old weekend nights. Balcony and Telephone terraces were full to capacity as was Connection. Let's hope that was a sign of things to come. The only downside was the thousands of tiny moths gathered around any bright lights. I love the gogo bars. Seeing guys in the flesh is far more appealing to me than seeing them on a thumbail picture on my phone screen. Seeing their personalities on stage can make a big differece. To be honest, some of the best guys I've been with in Thailand, I probably would have scrolled past them on app. The apps are boring for me. I can do that at home.

Given the horrific near recent history of Cambodia, I think its great that a company like this is not only creating employment but offering training to young people and helping keep alive some of the country's culture. I will watch and will donate.

This past December I had a chance to spend three weeks in Greece and one week in Turkey. I’ll write about my Athens and Greece experience in another post when time allows. I had travelled much of Turkey several times before with tour groups but had very little luck with finding guys. He said that Grindr and Planet Romeo would have plenty of straight, masculine, Turkish guys available for sex, but there had been too many horror stories in Istanbul about what happened when these guys got to a client’s hotel or apartment. Instead, he said I should choose a gay man that was clearly a bottom and maybe even effeminate. They said I would have a better chance of not having a gay attack another gay. I returned the next day and those same two Turks offered themselves again. I decided to take them up this time and we had a great experience for four days in a row (kissing, cumming, sucking, fucking, getting fucked). AQUARIUS SAUNA: This can be a bit scary if you have not been there before. Search on the internet under google maps for photos. The entrance is off Istiklal pedestrian road that connects with Taksim Square. The street is Katip Mustafa Çelebi, Sadri Alışık Sk. No: 29/1, 34433 Beyoğlu/İstanbul, Turkey. You can find a marker in Google maps for the location, as well as a 360 view where you can walk through the sauna. You enter off the main road, pay your fee of 50 lira ($7 USD), and then go down a set of steps to the cabin area. You are given a cabin with your own key, a towel, and sandals. You disrobe in the cabin, wrap the towel around you, leave your valuables in the cabin, and then lock the door. You then can walk into the lounge area where all the boys will be sitting. There were about 10 boys on each visit I was there. I then went to the bar on the right and got myself a drink watching carefully how it was made so as not to be spiked. At that point I had brought the International Herald Tribune so I started reading it. The boys will immediately start to approach you for business. The whole place is very dirty to my taste, but they were trying to keep it clean as you can see from the photos. The rooms for sex required you to go up the very narrow set of stairs to the left of the bar area to what I can only describe as an attic. Once at the top, there were a series of 8 rooms that were about 10 ft by 20 ft. each, with a table/mattress (see the photo on google…the room you see there is CLEAN if you can believe it!). When my partner and I visit Jomtien we always stay at The Agate which is unfortunately now closed, although thankfully they tell me they will re-open when conditions allow. I did quarantine in BKK in December. Absolutely no visitors. You are in solitary for the full 15 days. Not even cleaners allowed in the room if you are in there. You have to go elsewhere while they clean.

I like the bars but don’t like the pressure. I like watching the boys. Many times boys look different in real life than on a photo. The second time, and subsequent times, have often been as good or better for me. Like some who've commented above, I prefer the tried and true over the attractive but untried. With my longterm Thai guy, it took 8 years for the sex to start dimming in excitement -- and then the light went out completely within a year. Basks, You raise an interesting point. I have travelled twice to Egypt during Ramadan and actually experienced only limited problems. I saw about half of the small restaurants closed as there was no eating until sunset... and thus no need for them to remain open during the day. Mind you, there were still lots of places open to eat in the tourist areas. Similarly while some small historical sites closed up, it was also the case that the MAJOR tourist sites remained open. At the end of the day, they want AND need your tourist money... so many more will probably be open this year than in the past. As for the sex, that is harder to address. You can already see by the sheer number of guys letting you suck their dick (or them fucking you) that their Muslim religious sensibility is a bit... how shall we say... flexible! So, I found them just as horny and just as willing during Ramadan as other times for their dick to please me... both during the day and night. So, it is a tough call. If you set your expectations low and just go with the flow to get your feet wet for the first time in Egypt, then you will have a great time. The second trip will then be even better. If there are no plans to ever return to Egypt AND you can adjust your schedule, then you might want to do so such that you can get the maximum value/opportunities for that one trip to Egypt in your lifetime.
