Gay Bangkok is slowly coming back to life. And, by slowly, I mean really slowly. Jupiter Boy and I took a night out tonight and things were pretty quiet on both Papong and Silom 4. A few updates. Narawat Massage on Silom 4 is open and guys are outside working. Banana Room is open with a few guys there. Telephone and Balcony are both open with some customers. Hugs is open. Private Bar is open. Jupiter was open but few guys working. Lucky Boys is not open and rumor has it that it may not open anytime soon and may even get sold. Dream Boys was open with about 15 guys but not a lot of variety. Screwboys was closed. Fresh Boys was open and had 8 guys and 1 other customer. Some cute guys and drinks 350 baht. Hotmale was open and had 5 boys when we were there. Moonlight was closed. Tawan was closed but the Sun Massage was open and several of the Tawan guys were out on the street. Mango Tree Restaurant was open but I think for a private party. Super A was closed. Nature Boys was open. When I pulled up Hornet, there were about 90 guys under 25 without 3,000 feet. One of them caught our attention while we were looking and he was near the Starbucks so we met him and took him home. The Grab Taxi there did not allow for us to be picked up as no drivers available. The same on the return. It was odd. The road were VERY quiet and few cars anywhere. This was the first weekend with all the bars open and still a soft opening IMHO. But, it only takes one and thus, Hornet was a good provider tonight.

Not sure if members here know of the Phare Circus project in Siem Reap. I first came across it in an article in one of the free gay magazines in BKK (such as Thai Puan, can't remember which one it was though). It is a project that helps with the education of local kids and getting them off the streets through arts and circus. I have visited the show in their actual circus tent in Siem Reap in March 2018. Of course Covid has thrown them in crisis financially and they try everything to raise funds. I have already donated some in 2020. Are they? I live in Bangkok and have neither seen nor heard of any marching against anything for some 4 months or so. There certainly were major protest marches in October but these were not exclusively against the worsening economic conditions. There was another reason which on this Board cannot be discussed. Like many Asian nations, Thailand has a good family structure. Some of those out of work especially in the tourism industry will no doubt have returned home and be working in the village shop or in the fields. Then you have to realise that several polls have found that a considerable majority of Thais do not want tourism to reopen until there are better solutions to the covid19 pandemic. The Tourism Authority of Thailand constantly pushes for opening up tourism in some way but the government is not biting. Thailand is far from alone in this respect. A couple of months ago Hong Kong and Singapore announced a traffic bubble to allow one flight in each direction initially. A few days before it started, Hong Kong had a new outbreak and the bubble burst! For those who enjoy travelling we just have no alternative but to wait.

Last trip November 2019 When oh when can I go back? I have 5 weeks holiday a year. I can’t go for the two week quarantine option. That will take 4 of my 5 weeks if I want to have two weeks real holiday there. Then rest of the year only working working without a break. Won’t do that. I asked my job but they don’t allow working from there. I am surprised there is no mass uprising from all these Thai who directly (hotels for example) or indirectly (massage shops for example) work in the tourism industry. How do they get money now? Hoe do they pay their rent?

My point above about ladyboys was a bit subtle and I am not picking on you Z. However, I never really understand why all gay men can't just accept the YUGE differences in our community. Coming out in NYC for me was an odd place as things were so segregated. There were clubs that catered to just gay Latinos or butch lesbians or drag queens, etc. What I have always preferred is a place that is inclusive of all and accepts all. Ladyboys, fat ladyboys, gay boys, fem boys, manly guys, and not gay boys but gay for pay. All should be openly welcome IMHO. As far as the shape, most people do not like bigger guys or ladyboys. Yet, look at the crowd. It is a variety of shapes, sizes, colors, ages, etc. Each one has their own likes and preferences. Good bars should have something for everyone. But, I would never presume that my type is other people's desired type. If that were the case, Thailand gogo bars would be filled with only tattooed bad boys.
