From Channel News Asia THIMPHU: Bhutan’s Parliament has voted to decriminalise same-sex relations, amending an existing law that penalised what it deemed “unnatural sex". The amendment was approved Thursday (Dec 10) by 63 out of 69 lawmakers, with six abstaining from voting. The amendment now needs to be approved by Bhutan's king to become law. The amendment changes two articles of the criminal code to clarify that “homosexuality between adults shall not be considered unnatural sex". The penalty for engaging in prohibited sexual conduct is up to a year in prison. "I haven’t stopped smiling since yesterday. I am eagerly awaiting His Majesty’s assent,” said Tashi Tsheten, a Bhutanese activist who has worked to change the law. He said the amendment means LGBTIQ people in Bhutan will be able to lead a better and more dignified life after facing stigma and discrimination for so long. Bhutan is a tiny landlocked country with a population of 770,000 people located in the southern foothills of the Himalayan mountains, sandwiched between China to the north and India to the south.

You guys might want to watch "Kalel, 15", the movie from the Philippines starring Elijah Canlas. It is just now available on Netflix. I watched it and have to say it is very depressing. Shows how difficult things can be living in Manila. Unless of course your family is Hi-So. I am glad my Guys live down on Cebu. It is still not easy but not like in this movie!! Cheers!!

Thursday's protests also coincided with Thailand's Constitution Day, a national holiday marking the country's adoption of its first constitution in 1932, which meant that many offices in the city were closed. The demonstrations drew significantly smaller crowds than other recent rallies, which have attracted tens of thousands of participants. Ahead of Thursday's protests, government security officials erected barricades using shipping containers and barbed wire, and police were deployed to prevent any possible move toward Chitralada Palace, the residence of King Maha Vajiralongkorn. By early afternoon the group that gathered outside the UN building had moved to join another one rallying beside a memorial to protesters killed by security forces in 1973. The royal defamation law had not been enforced for three years after King Maha Vajiralongkorn informed the government that he did not wish to see its use. But according to the group Thai Lawyers for Human Rights, 23 people have been charged under the law since Prayuth said last month that it would be among those used against demonstrators going forward. Many activists are now using the hashtag on social media #abolish112 to call for the end to the lèse majesté law which is Section 112 of Thailand’s Criminal Code. Those who break the law face 3 to 15 years in prison.

I am somewhat convinced that Trump shows no class because he is psychotic. But also, his latest conspiracy initiative, election fraud, is helping rake in millions of dollars in donations to an initiative that is reported to be a little bit soft on how the money will be spent. One might not be surprised how Trump would lean into one final big grift while in the White House, keeping the money rolling in until inauguration day when he will skip the swearing in and instead officially announce his 2024 campaign. Similarly, Matt Braynard, a former Trump operative, was on Lou Dobbs last night pumping up his Voter Integrity Project, spewing false claims how dead people voted for Biden, while providing no evidence. In the meantime, he has collected big money donations but provided no evidence how he is using the money., reported by Daily Beast. Braynard seems to be a right wing fanatic based on a Mother Jones article. Lou Dobbs is an old time birther who will say anything for ratings, IMO, so putting Braynard on his show last night was no surprise. Big picture is the Trump base continues to be riled up and squeezed for every last drop of money they can send. Over the years, whether it is Trump's private con games, or his presidential rip offs, the media doesn't seem to give this side of the equation much reporting. Perhaps, NY state will help change that next year.

We both have long memories. It was on my very first trip that I observed this same scene. Tarntawan Place had sent a car to the airport and the driver got into the left traffic lane on Rama 4 in preparation for the turn onto Surawong. Traffic was very heavy as we crept along and I was wondering what all these cute young guys were doing on that block. After quickly showering and unpacking a few things, I walked back up Surawong to Rama 4. Although I had no idea where or what I was doing (other than engaging my hunting instincts), the smiles came quick and easy. The third or fourth guy took the few steps towards me, touched my arm and said, "we go your hotel." He informed me of the financial expectation (500) and that he was university student. I later learned that many of the others on that strip were also students or day workers supplementing their income. That was my brief but excellent introduction to Bangkok.
