  2. Speaking of chemistry... I don't know if any of you are watching I Told Sunset About You. Here's a link to ep 3 You can also find the behind the scenes documentaries on dailymotion. The one for ep 2 talks a lot about how they worked hard to find actors with good chemistry. Personally I don't see all that much chemistry between the leads. Part of it could be that their characters are a bit of a mess. Their confusion leads to a barrier of sorts. The main character is a controlling, jealous jerk to a great degree. So I am having a hard time believing that the cute gay boy would be all that interested in him. Although frankly both of the characters are immature - which makes sense given their age. Hopefully the loyal friend of gay boy blows his top soon because he needs to stand up for himself.

  3. This is nothing new, foreigners are ID checked at most major nightspots and ordered to buy bottles at the door. They also have an uncanny ability to distinguish other Asians from Thais, and spot go go boys entering with customers. The boys are welcomed like old friends, their customers are shown the priciest drinks. Fortunately DJ Station is exempt from this practice ! Babe from Moonlight is a fan of Barbarbar because it is sufficiently hi-so!

  8. From The Thaiger A Bangkok nightclub has set up what resembles an immigration counter outside the venue to check foreigners’ IDs and make them pay up before entering. At BarBarBar in Thong Lor, Thais get in free, but foreigners are asked to step aside to the booth and either pay 500 baht or buy a bottle of alcohol before entering the venue. Bouncers outside BarBarBar check everyone’s IDs before they enter, making sure they’re at least 20 years old. But foreigners are pointed to the booth and are basically vetted before entering. An employee sits behind a clear barrier to check IDs and collect cash. A sign reads: “In this situation of epidemic Covid-19, ALL tourists must stay in Thailand 14 days without any symptoms before entering the club. Also, real passport are only granted entry to our club. We kindly request our guest to co-operate.” A Bangkok nightclub has set up what resembles an immigration counter outside the venue to check foreigners’ IDs and make them pay up before entering. At BarBarBar in Thong Lor, Thais get in free, but foreigners are asked to step aside to the booth and either pay 500 baht or buy a bottle of alcohol before entering the venue. Foreigners have 2 options at BarBarBar: Pay 500 baht or cut a deal for a group of foreigners by purchasing alcohol. Menus are at the counter listing some alcohol packages priced at 15,000 baht and 17,000 baht.

  11. Its quite interesting "over there" that there is a political forum in which you really are not allowed to discuss politics IF the comments are not to Daddy's liking. Looks like HE has been quite busy "Locking threads" that have to do with Trump and the election. Isnt the election the "topic du jour" ? However, he has allowed that maniac @augustus to expound his crazy conspiracy theories and anti-democracy rhetoric about election theft, yet if others want to have a civil discourse about election related issues, the thread is LOCKED. I guess we HAVE seen there are alot of crazy mutherfuckers in this world. THIS election has proven that to me... well at least 70+ mil of them !

  12. From The Thaiger PM congratulates US President-elect Joe Biden After the tight race for United States president, Thailand’s prime minister sent a message congratulating President-elect Joe Biden and Vice President-elect Kamala Harris on their victory against incumbents President Donald Trump and Vice President Mike Pence. Reports say that Biden’s win could benefit Thailand. The Bangkok Post says trade tension between the US and China could ease up. The Thai Chamber of Commerce chairperson Kalin Sarasin says the US is likely to rejoin the Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership and Thailand should be prepared for possible negotiations involving free trade agreements. PM Prayut Chan-o-cha sent a message to Biden, congratulating both Biden and Harris on their win and adding that he is ready to enhance Thai-US relations. I wish to extend to you and Senator Kamala Harris my warm congratulations on your election victory and the trust that you have earned from American voters. “With the long-standing ties of friendship between our countries, dating back more than 200 years, Thailand, as the first treaty partner of the United States in Asia, takes pride in our strategic partnership, which contributes to our mutual benefit and the region’s peace, stability and prosperity. “On behalf of the government and the people of the Kingdom of Thailand, I wish you every success and look forward to working closely with you and your administration to enhance further our cooperation at all levels.”

  13. Agree with firecat. Tremendous changes in USA since 1978 concerning race. The trump years legitimized racism, which popularized nationalism and is neo-fascist at its core. There still may be very dark days ahead until January 20th. Probability of torch lite night rallies fairly high.. very glad to be in Thailand now, even with possibility of unrest here as well.

  14. From MSN PHNOM PENH, Nov. 9 (Xinhua) -- Cambodia on Sunday decided to close all cultural and entertainment venues again across the kingdom in a bid to prevent the second wave of the COVID-19 infections, Health Minister Mam Bunheng said in a signed letter. "With the approval of Prime Minister Samdech Techo Hun Sen, we decide to shut down all KTV parlors, entertainment clubs, cinemas, and museums across the country from the day of this signature onwards until further notice," Bunheng said in the letter sent to relevant ministers and all municipal and provincial governors. Meanwhile, Minister of Education, Youth and Sport Hang Chuon Naron also ordered the closure of all schools in capital Phnom Penh and southern Kandal province for two weeks. "The academic institutions must continue teaching their students online," he said. The minister also ordered the temporary closure of the Olympic Stadium in Phnom Penh after a Cambodian coach tested positive for the COVID-19 on Saturday. Meanwhile on Sunday, Ministry of Health (MoH) spokeswoman said in a press statement that a Cambodian bodyguard, who escorted and protected infected Hungarian Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade Peter Szijjarto during his Cambodia visit, tested positive for the COVID-19. The 31-year-old bodyguard had the symptoms of itchy throat and cough, and his samples were taken for the second test by the Pasteur Institute of Cambodia on Saturday, said MoH Secretary of State and Spokeswoman Or Vandine.

  15. Read my snarky message to him over there. I meant what I said. I think we should thank him and encourage him to continue, loudly, on the path he is on. I won't repeat everything I said. But I will repeat the key Saul Alinsky idea: The action is in the reaction. Here's the way I'm going to view it. The problem Biden had is that Trump is the kind of guy who can actually get 70 million + Americans to vote for him, as we just saw. So the Democrats needed someone who could get 75 million people to vote for Biden. The beauty of Biden is he realized only one candidate could get 75 million people to vote for Biden. And that candidate is Donald J. Trump. To state it slightly differently, everything Trump did to agitate and divide and conquer to get 70 million votes helped Biden get 75 million votes. Augustus exemplifies the kind of rabid Trumpist thinking (sometimes it is not even thinking, really) that helped get 75 million people to vote for Biden. So he helped elect Biden, I think. We also know Biden will make plenty of mistakes and gaffes that will cause people to question his leadership. So I think it's helpful to have Trump himself, or fans like Augustus, popping up to remind us that while Biden might not be perfect, he is such a better alternative.

  16. From Thai Enquirer Coup rumors were rife in Thailand on Monday after a chaotic night of protests that saw five demonstrators get injured by security forces during a pro-democracy rally. Protesters gathered at Democracy Monument on Sunday and marched to the Grand Palace to deliver their petitions for reforming the royal institution. They also demanded the ouster of the Prayut Chan-ocha government and a redrafting of the military-backed charter. The protesters were met by security officials who had parked busses and placed barbed wire to stop demonstrators from entering the royal plaza. The officials also deployed water canons against the protesters which caused several injuries. Protesters were eventually able to hand several ‘mailboxes’ full of letters written by the people to security officials. The letters were written by the demonstrators asking HM King Vajiralongkorn to reform the royal institution and place it under the constitution. Many ultra-royalist groups commented on Monday morning that they found the images of protest unacceptable and that the pro-democracy protesters were creating an untenable situation. One group let by Dr Warong Dechgitvigrom made statements early on Monday about the protests noting that they were ‘unacceptable’ and that the royalist group will be rallying their supporters to confront the pro-democracy crowd and get them prosecuted by the law. Another group led by ultra-royalist Krit Yiammethakorn has called on the army to take power and declare martial law to end the political impasse. Senior coalition partners told Thai Enquirer on Monday that they worry that the possibility of violent confrontations between the two groups would spark a takeover of power or a judicial coup. One Palang Pracharath MP told Thai Enquirer on condition of anonymity that a December 2 court decision, which will rule whether Prayut broke the law by staying in army housing after he retired from the armed forces, will likely go against them to “placate the masses.” “I think the court rules against the prime minister to make all sides happy and calm the seas,” he said. “But this is the wrong decision, we have already taken steps to deescalate the situation and we are working on charter amendments as we speak.”

  17. At this time, poor @augustus is Hysterical, and on the verge of INSANITY.... You would almost think that HE is DJT ? Someone needs to tell him Biden WON and he should just "get over it" just like he has been telling US since Trump won in 2016.... Americans made a BIG mistake in 2016. Yes, Trump won then, but WE wont make that mistake again ! " Hey Rudy, maybe we can BUY the Election ? "

    Slavery

I believe the ONLY way to fight racism in this country is to let it fade away thru the generations. It hasnt happened so far, but if THIS election is any indication, it's coming.... You cant pull that shit with today's youngins, even ones brought up in totally racist families. Todays kids are WOKE and dont buy it. Social media has made their generation the melting pot it should be, and furthers acceptance, diversity and inclusion.... All this talk about Trump or his spawn running again in 2024... With what we know now, and the direction the country is headed, if Biden does it right, the NEW generation wont let THAT happen again ! And as their forefathers become dust, the possibility for that is greater. But NOW is a time for celebration, and lets not allow anything to rain on our parade. America got it RIGHT !

    Slavery

The line that resonated most for me: "Slavery is an abomination ........ but neither I or any man have any immediate solution to the problem." How's that for understatement? Different century, but we're dealing with much of the same shit today. I suspect that clip was a highly white-washed portrayal of some of those men. We know about Jefferson and owning slaves. I don't feel he was a particularly good guy. I am now completely rabid about getting rid of the slavery electoral college. There's lots of scholars, especially Black ones, that can make a great argument that the electoral college is all about the ownership and blood of slaves. And there are plenty of "originalist" sources to go to to connect the dots and show the intent of "the Founding fathers" was to build institutions, like the electoral college, that were designed to support slavery. It is the last of our immediate problems, I know. And I also know we don't have the power to do anything about it right now. Talk about STILL not having an immediate solution to the problem. But it infuriates me that Biden will win this election by up to 5 million votes. And yet we have to go through this process of discussing whether the election was stolen from President Toxic. In no other country that even pretends to be a democracy would this be happening. To the extent that we're going to have noise, I'd rather have noise about how the electoral college is an institution built to support the ownership of Blacks as property. As opposed to how people feel about whether poll watchers should be six feet away from ballot counters in the middle of a deadly pandemic. Again, in no other democracy where someone just won by 5 million votes could this be happening. It makes me feel even worse about the kind of people who actually support this nonsense. There was an interesting discussion on CNN this week between Rep. Clyburn and Don Lemon. As always, Lemon was not exactly being a detached journalist. In fact, he was in tears, talking about how hearing Biden tell Blacks "You had my back, so I will have yours" made him cry as he heard it. He is not the only Black that said that on TV. The emotion and redemption in some of these moments and symbols this week was very deep and powerful. That was clear. Lemon was basically bitching as a Black man about how slow and difficult progress is. And how frustrating it is to even try to be objective interviewing people who are racists who unabashedly support Trump's racist nonsense. Clyburn got into this riff about his relationship with John Lewis and Elijah Cummings. How they became fast friends when they met and formed SNCC in the 60's. How close his religious and geographic roots with Cummings were. The love and dignity of these men, two of whom are now dead, was palpable as Clyburn went on in his riff with Lemon. But his basic point was what we would all guess. Be patient. Stay focused. Keep your eyes on the prize. Clyburn just gave an epic - one might say Biblical - example of how that works in real time with what he did with Biden in 2020. It has changed America for the good. I was in tears yesterday, too. I didn't know much about Clyburn until 2020. I am now in awe of the man. I feel America, and especially Democrats, are gifted with his wise and moral leadership. That's a way to rewrite the scene portrayed in what you posted, Adam. We still don't have any immediate solutions. I would argue we just escaped a brush with the degradation or even death of democracy. That might be going too far, since having maybe up to 150 million people vote in what was essentially a free election isn't exactly a bad example of democracy. But it was very messy, like that discussion about slavery in the clip you posted. One thing I feel good about is the discussion we just had wasn't one limited to or led by solely White men who own property, which in some cases is Black men. The key players in this debate on my side were people like Biden, Clyburn, Harris, Pelosi, Schumer. That's progress. The moral grounding of what just happened was in fact based on the words and ideals of men like Jim Clyburn, John Lewis, Elijah Cummings. So I'll take this as proof that MLK was right. We just saw the arc of the moral universe bend. 2020 is messy and sad. But if we listen to the words of men like Clyburn, Lewis, and Cummings, America will do well. That is truly a gift from God.

  20. I guess racist will continue to exist as long as we have race. It happened not just in the US but almost everywhere. But seems to be encouraged and applauded by trump, hence we can see the ugly face of it in the news/soc media. I cant say its any better here too.

  21. USA was founded as a slave state, which has slavery in its constitution. Every time I hear a Supreme Court justice say what the founding fathers meant, I remember how many founding fathers were slave owners. Women fared better than the slaves but were considered property of their fathers and husbands for the most part. Saudi Arabia not the first. USA close to a neo-fascist state with old white christian men only interested in white supremacy. Literally half of the USA citizens only care that white men keep the power and keep people of colour disadvantaged. I was recently discussing Columbus on Columbus Day with another farang. When I pointed out what a curse Columbus was, bringing disease, stealing land, enslaving native people, my acquaintance said, what’s the problem, we’re white aren’t we. We have a reprieve now but it’s only temporary and tenuous at best. The struggle continues!

  22. given how many people voted by mail for the first time it's not a surprise that it is taking so long to count the ballots. The system isn't really set up to conduct elections this way in most places. In states like PA the Republican legislature wouldn't allow the local election officials to even open the ballots until election day while others like Florida sensibly allow for the mail ballots to be counted in advance of election day as they arrive. Trump got so many votes for a variety of reasons. There is so much brainwashing going on all over the world right now. Social media is turning a lot of us into idiots and the craziest voices get amplified. Add in the propaganda TV networks. Poor educational system. And for sure plenty of racism, but also the wealthy class has set the poor people against each other so they're distracted while they're all being robbed. Sadly our whole system has been corrupted, primarily by the Republicans. Reagan was the beginning of the end. But the unrepresentative Senate and gerrymandered House (and state legislatures) have created a dynamic where minoritarian rule is in place in a feedback loop so it will just continue to get worse. I saw an estimate the other day that by 2040 the Republicans will probably have 80 Senators due to the way populations are shifting. Essentially what needs to happen is masses of progressives moving to the rural states. But we all live in the blue states for good reasons. So getting enough of us out to the red hinterlands will be difficult. Maybe the crazies will all kill each other off with the virus. At least we appear to averted disaster for the moment. There's plenty of work to be done.

  23. I liked all posts above because this is how civilized people should discuss and agree to disagree, by stating their cause and explaining why without throwing labels. KhorTose has some valid points but as non-American i need to say that nobody mentioned damage Trump presidency made to America's standing in the world, I can't see how he made "America great again" which was his main promise 4 years ago. People who rightly complain about being losers of globalization need to realize that the also contributed to their misery by choosing in masse to buy 30$ Chinese trousers instead of $ 100 "made in USA ' ones. Not only corporations but also consumers shipped American jobs to China and other countries

  24. Could not have said it better myself. Those same Republicans have been stealing elections for many years . Just unbelievable that Georgia is voting for Biden and who knows they will have 2 Senate seats at risk in the re-vote. Maybe the Dems won't win those seats but it will be close and likely switch in the future. Apparently no hope for places like Alabama but places like North Carolina and even Texas are moving to the Democrats . The only reason Republicans can ever win the Presidency is because of the ridiculous system. It's been many years since they have ever come close to winning the most votes. In a real Democracy Republicans would have to change or never win National Offices.

  25. And, BTW, I'm from Alabama and grew up in George Wallace country. Still today, people believe that there should be no race mixing. I grew up and saw crosses burned in the yards of black families who moved into the area. I grew up and lived with one of my teachers being burned alive for being gay. Did all those people who did those horrific things die? The answer is no. They did not die. But, they all voted for Trump. Every one of them. I still believe that race is a big issue in the USA and while not always open about their beliefs, I do believe that 1/3 our America is racists, sexist, or homophobic. Most of them vote for Trump. We are not an equal society. Until I have to have "the talk" with my child about how to act with police so as not to be killed by police (for being black) we are not a society that treats all equally. Yes, I do believe the vast majority of those that voted for Trump are racists in some form. Do they shout it from the rooftops? No. But, they do shout it with their votes for a racist leader. Period!

They apparently intended to try to make it into Thailand. Police believe that the driver fell asleep. Among the dead are said to be three from the same family.
