  1. So, as it turns out, I did swap numbers with one lad and spent time with him last night. I was right. Not gay. Not great sex. But, I'm old and easy to please so I was happy with him. I'm seeing him again this week. He did ask, "good sex?" and I said, "50/50" in Thai. He laughed and said "next time better." So, as a true believer, I'll trust his word as I know no bar boy would ever lie to me!

  3. They didn't think to ask PaulSF, but if they did I think I can hear him say "any Saturday night on Soi Twlight." From The Thaiger When did Bangkok have its golden era? Of course it depends on when you were visiting, how long you were here, where you stayed, and what you were doing at the time. But the city has certainly had some ‘eras’ in the past that people nostalgically and whimsically recall as ‘special’. Here’s a few of the responses about when Bangkok really hit its straps, when we asked people on The Thaiger Facebook page. Everyone falls into the trap of remembering the ‘good old days’, but was there a time when Bangkok really did have a golden era? Denny says that it was definitely in the 1970s when he first came to Bangkok with his wife. He said his friends thought it was a ‘very exotic’ choice at the time. Denny, from Massachusetts in the US, returned in the 1990s to live in the Big Mango but says it had lost a certain visceral appeal and was beginning to be ‘moulded’ as a tourist destination. “Whilst I stood out in the 1970s no one really took much notice of me. By the 1990s some of the ‘ugly tourists’ had already made a reputation and we didn’t feel quite as welcome as we used to. Whilst in the 1970s there were still plenty of bicycles’d been completely replaced by the 1990s by the ubiquitous ‘motorcy’. ‘Simone’ said… “Late 80’s and the beginning of the 90’s, when the highest building was the Dusit Thani and the first disco was The Palace. You could just put a Motorola phone on a table at The Bubble and all girls were yours while the DJ was playing ‘One night in Bangkok’. You can write a book about those times.” Another writer ‘Retire’ thought the golden era was a few decades earlier. “I think Bangkok really came to life in the 60s when it started developing it’s own pop culture style in clothing, furniture, music and cinema. It sort of regressed into a bad version of everything western later or. But there was a bright, glimmering decade when Bangkok was the hip Asian city.” ‘Helmer’ and his wife were posted to Thailand as for a large foreign company in the late 50s. “When I first visited Thailand in the late 1950s I would stand out and people would stop me in the street to take a photo with me. It was very ‘Thai’ then and very few people had any English skills at all. It was a very difficult place to live as a foreigner at that stage and things slowly improved during the 60s until we had to leave in 1969. There was no high-rise in those days and shopping was all at local markets. The only cars driving around those days were all imported and they had just started filling in the old klongs to make new roads.” Continues with photos and video https://thethaiger.com/news/bangkok/bangkoks-golden-era-according-to-expats

  13. Thanks for posting that. Wow. Income inequality. Why am I not surprised? It is a complicated study. Obviously the Fed's goal is not to stoke class war. But all the stuff about the "SCF Augmented Next 9" model versus the "WID Next 9" model makes it seem like they went out of their way to blunt the message by making it incomprehensible. The thing that jumped out at me is the education correlation. Which is not surprising. 87 % of those in the Top 1 % are college grads. 72 % of the Next 9 % are. 45 % of the Next 40 % are. And only 22 % of the Bottom 50 % are. Another argument for free college as a path to income equality. And, no surprise, the Top 1 % is almost entirely White and has 0 % Blacks. The Bottom 50 % is 53 % White, 20 % Black, 14 % Hispanic, and 13 % Other. But, no. There's no systemic racism in America. Just Black Marxists who want to abolish suburbs. I was going to post this anyway, so I'll fit it in here. The themes revolve around income. Biden: Skilled at Debate, Awful at Economic Results That's a good preview of what President Toxic will say tomorrow night, albeit not as intelligently as his adviser Steve Cortes does. I give them credit for basing their arguments on the points Democrats would make: Black net worth, child poverty, rising incomes for the middle class. Before I get to the part of what Cortes says I genuinely like, let me first pick a few of the really stupid low hanging fruit. First, I read this as an acknowledgement that they think Biden will win the debate. Their point is even if he is a good debater, he still sucks with the economy. Second, I hope President Toxic tries to portray Biden as the guy who organized our "abusive" relationship with China and handed them 60,000 factories and over 3.2 million manufacturing jobs. I guess Biden must have done that before he was senile, since it sounds pretty complicated. It sets Biden up to respond that President Toxic played up Xi as a great guy who was handling the virus earlier this year. Even as he downplayed a deadly threat to Americans, which has now killed over 200,000 of us. It's hard to imagine President Toxic is stupid enough to hand this to Biden on a silver platter. Then again, maybe not. Biden is debating Trump, not W. But I'll be interested to see whether and how Biden points out that all those factory jobs were lost under W. and Republican tax and trade policies. Which boiled down to let the rich stockholders and corporations do whatever they want. There's more than a bit of that with President Toxic, too. Biden will say that he was for NAFTA in the 90's, when Clinton was President and it did create hundreds of thousands of factory jobs in the US. Including Delaware. He voted against most of W.'s trade deals, which at the time he said did not meet "fair trade" and union standards. Then he'll talk about how part of his job as Veep was to save and restore jobs in states like Michigan after him and Obama got left holding the bag for the Republican's disastrous follies. Finally, he can point out that President Toxic failed to bring those factory jobs back. In 2019 Ohio, Pennsylvania, Michigan, and Wisconsin all lost a few thousand factory jobs. Even without COVID-19, Biden would have had a decent argument to make that Trump just broke his promises to communities decimated when the jobs went overseas by the millions under W. Now let me say what I like about this article. It is one of the best summaries I've read of why President Toxic continues to poll well on "the economy", even though we are in a recession. As the article argues, the economy was in fact growing pretty well in 2019. If Biden is having a hard time pounding the final nail in Trump's coffin, it's because the economy actually was working well enough for many. By the end of Obama's second term, median US household income was slightly higher than ever before ($62,898) and Black and Hispanic poverty were lower than ever before. As that Fed chart shows, there is no question that median incomes rose more under President Toxic ($68,703 by the end of 2019) and poverty went lower still. In 2019 median incomes, in adjusted dollars, were close to 10 % higher than they've ever been. Mostly the way I view that is that Trump inherited a growing economy, which he managed to keep growing. Now he's fucked it up worse than most other countries by completely mismanaging COVID-19. But the economy was definitely growing. Had COVID-19 and Black Lives Matter not hit, I'm pretty sure Lichtman would have been calling this election for President Toxic. And he more likely than not would have won. That new study the Fed just put out about income inequality stated that median household income rose 5 % between 2016 and 2019. That slightly contradicts the Fed numbers above, which are closer to a 10 % increase over three years. Either way, it does help me to understand why Mexican American families can look at Trump and feel like before COVID-19 he was good for the economy. On most metrics, the rate of growth between 2010 to 2016 under Obama and from 2016 to 2019 under President Toxic was pretty much the same. Trump can and will take credit for a good economy. The other thing I like about that article is Cortes made me think about what the debate SHOULD be about, but won't be: income inequality, poverty, racial injustice, and all the other reasons that what the Fed calls "The Bottom 50 %" is suffering. If President Toxic loses, I think the right way to view it is that for two elections in a row, the party in power failed the referendum. And the biggest reason why is "it's the economy stupid". At least for the bottom half of America. Even the Top 50 % who has done well, or at least okay, includes lots of people who are just sick of the turmoil. Many might agree to pay higher taxes if it means being able to get off the Toxic Rollercoaster and have peace and calm and a growing economy. If we don't address these core economic issues, there is every reason to think the next President and the one after will fail the referendum, too. Just as Cortes tries to blame Biden for the factory jobs shredded under W., he also tries to blame him for the Black net worth shredded by the subprime lending the Republicans allowed when they ran everything. It's fair enough to say Black net worth declined under Obama. But that's only because of all the foreclosures that were headed into the slow foreclosure pipeline by January 2009. Cortes doesn't mention that one reason Obama may not have pushed for a more aggressive bailout for home owners is that Rich Mitch would have obstructed it. That said, this is where Elizabeth Warren would say she was there. And Obama's folks like Summers and Geithner were no help. So we are left with this horror show, which now takes on more urgency since Black Lives Matter has called the question: I suspect that the 50 % + of Americans who sympathize with the goals of Black Lives Matter and agree there is systemic racism in America also agree that until we deal with wealth and poverty, the problems won't get any better and may get worse. I think going back to Clinton's home ownership initiatives and ring-fencing it with anti-predator laws is one idea to debate once Biden wins. If Warren is Treasury Secretary, that will help. Cortes wants to give President Toxic credit for reducing child poverty. That's fair. From 2010 to 2020 it reduced continuously under both Obama and President Toxic. That said, it's still a huge problem: It's the same core debate as what I said above with Black Lives Matter. If we really want to address the roots of the unrest in America this Summer, child poverty is where we need to go. The sad news, as you can see from that chart, is we've just been going sideways since the end of the 60's War On Poverty. In most Western European nations, child poverty is a single digit number. We ought to be able to do better. That chart surprised me. My understanding of US poverty is this. It reached an all time low in 1971, as The War On Poverty programs mostly continued into Nixon's Presidency. It hit a new low in the latter years of Bill Clinton's Presidency. And then it hit a new low again at the end of Obama's Presidency, and continued to decline under Trump. All that is true for total poverty. It's not true for child poverty. Here's why: Medicare, Social Security, and wealth creation have been remarkably successful in eliminating poverty among seniors. With children, not so much. While the government interventions involved are different, there's no reason 1 in 3 seniors had to be poor, or that 1 in 5 children still have to be poor. COVID-19 has raised the stakes, simply by making it harder for children to learn. But the reality we ought to be debating is that most rich kids will be fine, anyway. Whereas many poor kids would not have been fine, anyway. The other issue that Cortes didn't even mention that is the most important one to debate is income inequality. Why am I not surprised? That Fed report is good timing. But I like this chart better, since it is just easier to understand: It also covers the rough timeframe in which President Toxic and Biden have been active in real estate and politics. So they won't be debating this. Trump could argue Biden was in power the whole time, and he just let it happen. Biden could argue that President Toxic is the poster child of the sleazy fat cat who wins by cheating and not paying taxes. I actually like that chart from a Pew report better, because I think it is more useful for understanding why this is proving to be difficult to change. The median income of what they call upper income is $207,400. The median income of what they call middle income is $86,600. So neither of those groups are hurting. And as Cortes argues, they almost all probably got a good size bump in income from 2017 to 2019. One reason there may not be overwhelming political opposition to the rich getting richer is that the people in the middle don't necessarily feel poorer. In some other universe, if we didn't have a Slavery Electoral College and Hillary had won in 2016, we'd have a 6-3 liberal Court, And Bernie and Warren could be planning in 2021 to legislate a Jeff Bezos wealth tax. That would be my ideal solution, which most Americans - including a majority of Republicans - support. Biden has ruled that idea out. Which is probably just as well, since it would never survive a 6 - 3 conservative court, anyway. If I'm right that we're seeing a major change in tide toward a dominant progressive majority, then just as Nixon in 1968 led to Reagan in 1980, Biden in 2020 may lead to [...................] in 20[..]. Even if I'm right, it's gonna take a while for that to play out. In the meantime, Biden wants to raise taxes on corporations and people who make over $400,000. That should be doable with a Senate majority, just like it was under Clinton and Obama. But just like under Clinton and Obama, there's no reason to think that alone will reverse, or even slow down, the further concentration of income and wealth. All this is what I wish the debate tomorrow would be about. It's going to be weird, after being used to Bernie and Biden and Warren slugging it out over a bunch of good ideas. That's definitely not what is going to happen in this debate.

if and when I read reviews (not that often, coz I don't care much what other anonymous people say, they may have totally different preferences than me) I read mostly between the lines which I find more revealing than what's actually written. By doing that you can try to get a feel for what kind of person it is, and thus how to evaluate his/her actual words. Sometimes I say to myself, "ah typical complainer, always finds something to bitch about" and can immediately discard the entire review, regardless of whatever facts the person may present. As for fake reviews on tripadvisor, I never never read reviews there. If at all, I read reviews on booking.com or agoda, as they can only be posted by real guests with real bookings and stays.

I'm really concerned there are going to be hundreds of reports like this in new mail-in ballot states and it's going to undermine any Democratic "victory" (or maybe the other way round even). We need to get the voting system overhauled with a federal mandate; paper ballot trail, same-day registration, vote by mail or online, no ballot harvesting, etc. etc, or we're going to have a loss of confidence in the election process. 3rd world countries do better.

  17. I can't believe you seem to have missed today's most talked-about poll put out by the Fed, of all people. Not sure what augmented means but the bottom 50% of Americans are dirt poor. The next 40%, the "great middle class" has seen their wealth drop by 1/4 since 1992, while the next 9% and the top 1% are doing outstanding under globalization. There's a reason people in the top 10% love our economy while the rest want change.

  18. With all due respect, my beloved sister, you're no help whatsoever. I'll be watching the debate with Dane Scott tomorrow night. He's Italian heritage. Why aren't you at least offering to cater the fucking cannoli? This does work both ways. Granted, these days my brain is too active, and my cock is not active enough. So maybe I do need to lay off the politics for a while. I took a break for a few months a little while back. But it didn't break my bad habits. You know what they say. Once a political whore, always ......................... Flip side, I remember the moment in 2008 in Dane's apartment when he still lived in New York when I asked him whether he'd be voting for Hillary or Barack. His eyes glazed over. Frankly, it's the kind of look you'd want to see in an escort when your cock is deep inside him and he is about to cum. That said, it's not a good look when you're trying to have a political conversation. Like so many others, President Toxic has politicized Dane. Now he's all about watching the debate, sending donations to Biden, and voting against President Toxic. We all get older, of course. But how sad is that? My brother who, like you, liked Bloomberg in the primary, has nearly been radicalized. He lost his job earlier this year due to the pandemic. We both recently agreed that the only thing we could think of that would make us seriously consider suicide is four more years of President Toxic. Who knows. Perhaps even Poor Brad ended up feeling that way. Of course, Brad is in my thoughts and prayers. So whatever it is that's going around, other than COVID-19, seems to be catching. Not to worry. Since you won't be making good on the promised cannoli, we'll just make do with a few bottles of cheap wine. And wishing and hoping that Uncle Joe makes us cum ............... I mean, in a political sort of way, of course.

  19. We agree on this I guess. Battleground state polls are all that matter and in 2016 they were off by 2-8 points. In 2020 the margin in these states is 2-8 points so, in effect, they're all in the margin of error. Whatever the precision in national polls, state polls aren't anywhere as reliable. I still have serious doubts how pollsters can adjust their polls to account for all the new mail-in and absentee ballots too this year. "Turnout" always matters immensely.

  21. Have you actually read that article and the review posted by the man in question on Tripadvisor? Frankly, he is a total idiot. He wrote two reviews on Tripavisor one of which was taken down as contrary to the site's guidelines. He had basically defamed the hotels F&B manager. The one review that remains up reads like the ranting of moron. I have not read his google reviews. Anyone who marches into any hotel or restaurant expecting to drink their own liquor without some form of corkage payment and then makes an idiotic song and dance about it (it was only 500 baht for goodness sake) plus writes a string of abusive reviews full of vitriol that can be read publicly is a spoiled brat. The F&B manager actually waived the corkage to calm him down. But that was not going to stop this moron. In this particular case, Im glad he ended up in jail for a night or two. Had he had cash in his bank account or got some from his friends he could easily have avoided that. I also agree the hotel overreacted. But the idiot deserved it in this instance.

  24. I like , next door looking type of guys and usually pay 150-200 for overnights. Some of the greek God types do ask for more.....in all my years of whoring around, the better looking guy doesn't equal better sex, sometimes it's the opposite, lol

  25. Hello, Babybear: I have spent quite a bit of time all over Brazil over the last decade, and continue to do so. I’m a bit hesitant to delve again into pricing discussions here because oddly, some posters seem to equate the amount of money they pay for sex (whether it’s a smaller or a larger amount) with their self-worth or their physical attractiveness — and it has to do with neither of those things (It’s purely transactional. Stop. The End.) Nevertheless, regarding overnights with garotos de programa in Brazil, I will provide you with my personal experience and the experience of my travel partners (all of whom vary in physical appearance and personal tastes in men, but are in the same socioeconomic class in the USA and Europe): Asking prices for pernoite (overnights) can vary widely — depending on what Brazilian city you’re in, the demand of the garoto from other clients, how he looks and his self-perceived value. In general, the “guy next door types” / average guys / twinks will expect and cost less, while the Greek Gods / body boys / muscle guys : supermodels / “Beach Barbies” expect and ask for more. (I suspect that at least one of the garotos that quoted you the 800 - 1000 R range fit in the latter category — or at least perceived himself to be In it.) Also, consider that some garotos, due to family or other obligations, do not even like or want to do overnights, and consider pricing them simply on a time basis (by the hour, instead of pernoite), and thus, will charge accordingly. So again, it depends. I have seen or have been quoted overnight prices from anywhere from $200R to $2000R. Yes, I said $2000R. Now, I don’t know anyone who admitted to actually paying that amount out — I certainly did not — but that was the garoto’s quoted overnight price. A good rule of thumb is to follow the 80/20 rule. High 3 figures to 1000 reais in SP and RJ is not an unusual overnight asking price for a number of the “Greek God” types. Estimated about 10% will ask in this range. The lower range of around 200R or so from the average “guy next door” or “man on the street” types is probably around another 10%. But in the mid 3 figures (which would include your expected range of 400 R, but that’s usually a variable, not a hard and fast number), you should be able to happily secure an overnight with about 80 percent of the available garotos, which should include a wide range of looks and body types. (Prices are generally less in the North and NE regions of Brazil. It should not be shameful, insane, indentured servitude less, but slightly less due to cost of living differences.)

  26. From Chanel News Asia Thailand extends visa renewal grace period for foreigners stranded due to COVID-19 BANGKOK: Thailand on Monday (Sep 28) said it will extend a grace period for visa renewals for foreigners stranded in the country due to the COVID-19 pandemic until the end of October, as travel restrictions remain in place and new infections climb globally. The extension will allow foreigners to remain in Thailand until Oct 31, a spokesman for the government's coronavirus taskforce Taweesin Wisanuyothin told Reuters. After October, a new immigration regulation will allow foreigners to apply for 60-day extensions to remain in the country if they are unable to leave due to limited flights or other issues, Pornchai Kuntee, deputy commissioner of the Immigration Bureau, told Reuters. Previously, extensions required documentation from their respective embassies and were limited to 30 days. Authorities on Monday also extended an emergency decree until the end of October.

  27. I have a little free time, so I’ll say a little about my adventures so far before I forget. I arrived in São Paulo on the 16th and stayed until the 21st. This trip was my first time at SP, and it’s very different than Rio. It’s a massive concrete jungle where the closest beach is an hour away. On my first day, I linked with @brockmiller, who is now my Brazilian travel BFF! We turned Lagao out every night!! We are both very friendly and welcoming people and not to mention massive sluts. Shoutout to everyone else who we hung out with or meet from BT! I don’t remember your user names, and I don’t want to say your real names here, but you all know who you are! Lagoa was decently busy every night and very busy on the weekend. The guys were prob 30% European white, 50% light mix, and 20% darker-skinned mixed. If the European look is your thing, then Lagao is the only sauna I’ve seen that would satisfy. The building was mostly open, everyone was naked, and no one except the building staff wore a mask. Only the actual wet sauna was closed. All other parts of the sauna were open. I enjoyed myself at Lagao, but it is expensive. I prob spent more than twice the amount I spent here in Salvador. But I did find out I was overpaying for programs. I was paying 400 for overnight and 200 for a regular program. A middle-aged black Paulista told me and @brockmillerthat there is NO REASON we should spend that amount for a program. In his words; we were too young and beautiful ever to pay that amount. He said at the very most, 250 for overnight and 100 for a program in SP. When I asked him about Salvador, he said 50 for the regular program and 150 for overnight. I’m here to report he was right! I have not been turned down for a single program using his rates. Being honest, I hooked up with many guys while in SP, and I only remember a few. Two intensely dark-skinned guys we will call Casa and Diego. Both vers and both 5star yep reviews. All others were forgettable or didn’t stand out from the pack. After São Paulo, Brock and I went to Rio, where the party continued. Rio was Rio... some good, some bad as always. 202 had a fair amount of guys working. Some new faces and many old faces had not returned. 117 was damn near empty, and none of the guys were to my liking. I only had one new guy in Rio, and that’s because @brockmillerforced me to have sex with him. In Rio, I had a few favs who entertained me for most of my stay. In particular, a 6’5 deeply dark guy who has done some porn had been working out heavily during COVID and had a nice new buff body. I enjoyed his new body and WAP for a few days. On a side note, one thing I don’t like as much about Rio is that many of the black guys only top. In SP, all of the black guys I was with except two were vers, and many here in Salvador are also vers. Maybe I’m not doing something right, but I know a few black guys who work at 202 who’s asses are calling to be fucked. I will tell you about my adventures in Salvador once I have a moment. Salvador is magical is so many different ways! I hope my spacing allows everyone an easy read this time.

  29. I think I recognize the boy (staff in 117) in picture in post above. He has a tattoo above his eyebrow? I noticed him and I think he is cute. I'm just back from my first trip to Brazil, two weeks in SP and RJ. Points the OP raised: 1, some ATMs tried DCC (Dynamic Currency Conversion with a very unfavorable rate) which would result in a loss of 10 to 15%. Can be easily averted. In the end, I got money from Bradesco without fee or DCC. 2, I got a SIM-card at Claro in Frei Caneca shopping center. The little required information was exchanged with google translate. 3, English is indeed more widely spoken in Thailand (and elsewhere in SEAsia) than in Brazil. On the other hand, I can read French as a foreign language fluently which allows me to understand half of written Portuguese. Even someone who cannot read a Romance language can read names of places in Portuguese, but not in Thailand, Myanmar, Cambodia or China. Some of my sauna visits were indeed slow (low number of customers and boys). But I have seen more body shapes and types than in Thailand, and the biggest dicks I have ever seen.

  31. Before the pandemic hit, Lichtman was saying it was going to be a very close race that was too early to call. But it favored Trump. Which I believed, too. If Trump was going to win, it would have boiled down to one thing. It's the economy, stupid. The logic goes like this: President Toxic "built a rocking economy that worked for everyone." Other than the Toxic part, that is a direct quote from a credible Republican, Scott Jennings. I'm going to label Jennings as a "W. Republican". As opposed to a "Kasich Republican" or a "Toxic Republican". By that I mean Jennings came up through the conservative Republican Establishment ranks. He is credible. He is probably a very decent guy. And like your friend Jon, he's been a sort of boy wonder - and still even looks like one. Jennings does not embrace toxic thinking, hate, and intentional division. Unlike Kasich, though, he does not break ranks and say bluntly that this is morally repugnant and destructive political behavior. He's basically willing to do what it takes to get and keep power. Any Republican who does that, including President Toxic, he'll shill for. Case in point: Biden wants a referendum on Trump the person. That's because Trump's agenda is better than his. That's probably one of the best arguments I've read about why President Toxic deserves a second term, based on the fundamentals. Which is actually to say that they really don't have much of an argument at all. Frankly, maybe it's actually better to just race bait and hate and divide and agitate, like President Toxic does. Jennings is trying to make a rational argument that makes no fucking sense whatsoever, when you think about what he says. At least race baiting and hating gets your base all riled up. We all know that President Toxic knows that. (I was slightly wrong about one thing I said above about gun sales going through the roof after Biden wins. Here's the correction: sales of guns and ammo are ALREADY going through the roof.) To Scott's credit, he starts by admitting President Toxic drives everyone crazy, regularly makes his own supporters defend the indefensible, and is "corrosive to our national political culture." (Great selling points, huh?) But we still need him ........... because. The one "because" Scott cites that I agree with is that President Toxic has "delivered on deeply held Republican priorities." That explains two things, perhaps. First, why most Republicans are loyal to their President, despite everything else. Second, why there are now more registered Independents (and Democrats) than registered Republicans, for the first time in US history. Great logic, Scott. But the political math sucks. The main point I am going to get to is that Jennings is just wrong, wrong, wrong about the fundamentals of the economy. That explains, I think, both why President Toxic barely won in 2016, and why he will lose pretty badly in 2020. But before I get there, let me just tear poor Scott's asshole apart on several of his claims. I think it goes to the heart of what is happening in America. And why President Toxic will lose. Jennings does articulate the greatest hits the Republicans have to work with. And they all just sound tone deaf. First, there's the "Biden is senile" trope. To quote directly, Jennings says Biden is "confused" and "out of touch" and "past his prime". So here's the part that makes no sense to me. How "out of touch" is it for Joe Biden to get on the phone to Republican or Independent guys he's known and respected for decades, like John Kasich and Jon Meacham, and ask them to say whatever they want about decency and history and unity at his convention? Is that out of touch? Is that senile? Will President Toxic be getting W. or Reagan's kids or George Will - or anyone that isn't a Republican Party hack - to do the same at his convention? (As was stated above by @Buddy2, President Toxic certainly doesn't want his sister or niece to open their mouths and speak honestly.) I'll get to the substance of Jennings' key argument - that President Toxic built a "rocking economy that worked for everyone" - below. But before we get to the substance, can I just ask. How incredibly fucking out of touch is that statement, on its face? Did you not hear about Bernie Sanders, Scott? Did you not see the endless graphs on income inequality? Warren ranting about wealth taxes? Does anyone really believe that before COVID-19 the "rocking" US economy "worked for everyone"? To quote Scott, "...come on." You have to be fucking kidding me. If you believe that, you are completely and totally out of touch. And you have made Biden's (and Pelosi's) case that even the "rational" Republicans just don't get how much people are hurting. And have been. For a long time. Then there is Jennings arguing that Michelle Obama thinks anyone who disagrees with her is "stupid or racist", to quote him verbatim. It's a great argument. Other than that Michelle didn't actually use the words "stupid" or "racist". Or even anything close. What she actually said, as Scott notes, is that she is a Black woman speaking at the DNC. And for that reason many people in a divided nation will not hear what she says. Which was mostly about voting, and democracy, and how President Toxic will try to steal the election. Again, I think Jennings made Obama's case. He is saying in USA Today, in writing, that he did not actually hear what she said. It is empirically true that she is a Black woman speaking at the DNC. People may disagree with her about President Toxic's malevolent words and scheming. But they are his words. President Toxic votes by mail, and thinks that voting by mail leads to fraud. Except in Florida, where it helps Republicans and is fine. But wherever it helps Democrats, it is fraud. To again quote Scott, " ... come on." Give me a fucking break. There is something more fundamental here, which is why I lost friendship and respect with several Republican former clients and friends I was very close to after decades of whoring, sex, travel, and fun. President Toxic has made it acceptable to simply dismiss racism as a problem. He's not racist. Republicans are not racist. If the Obamas go off about racism, that's because THEY are racist. In fairness, Scott did not call Michelle Obama a racist. But, sorry, I've heard Republicans I was close to and respected tell me, repeatedly, that they are not racist, but the Obamas are. Again, who is out of touch here? Do they say these things to Black people? Do they talk to Black people? Do they have any idea how most Blacks would feel if they said, "I'm a White conservative, and I think Barack and Michelle Obama are racists." Again, who is out of touch here? Again, to quote Scott, " ... come on." Meanwhile, Biden just called Kasich and Meacham and asked him to say what they deeply believe. How racist is that? How senile is that? You may not like Kasich, @tassojunior . I don't know him personally. But he's exactly the type of Republican I have worked with for decades, cut deals with, and deeply respect. As a former lobbyist and organizer, I've worked with and cut deals with Republicans I actually respect a lot less than Kasich. (As well as Democrats I respect less than Kasich.) I would never vote for Kasich, because I'm a lifelong loyal Democrat. Unless, perhaps, Democrats elected a "homegrown Mussolini", which thankfully we have not. I'll repeat what I said above. If there was a blip for President Toxic after the first few days of the DNC, as Rasmussen seems to be saying, I think it was because centrists who don't really like or agree with Bernie or AOC or The Green New Deal got more than a mouthful about that. Time will tell. But as a Warren fanboy who voted for Bernie but is at heart a political whore, it was very clear to me this week that President Toxic was right about one very important thing. He is far worse off running against Biden than either Sanders or Clinton. To center all this stuff back to Lichtman and fundamentals, I do think it is a key reason why President Toxic will lose. Lichtman calls this key "charisma". I actually think "character" might be a better word. Lichtman's core point, which I think is true, is that once in a generation or so, a war hero like Ike or a Reagan or an Obama are able to command respect and trust that crosses partisan lines, and brings a majority of the nation together. Lichtman literally argued that in 2008 Obama turned the "charisma" key, but in 2012 he didn't. It makes no sense to argue that in 2008 Barack Obama had charisma, but in 2012 he lost it. What Lichtman basically means is that in 2008 Obama was perceived as someone who could rise above and unify. By 2012, he'd been taken down to the level of a Democratic Party hack. I agree with Lichtman on that. My point here is that I think all this racist and nonsensical bullshit that comes out of President Toxic's mouth, and that Republicans like Jennings clean up and try to package as actual rational thought, is one of the fundamental keys that voters have decided on. The majority of Americans simply don't trust or believe Trump anymore - if they ever did. The polls are incredibly clear about that fact. Now on to the core argument Jennings is making, which is simply not going to fly. Sorry, Scott. Nice try. But before COVID-19, the "rocking" economy did not work for everyone. As Lichtman argues, the short-term and long-term economy are the keys to Trump's impending and now almost inevitable defeat. All Employees: Manufacturing in Wisconsin All Employees: Manufacturing in Michigan All Employees: Manufacturing in Pennsylvania On this one, a picture (or graph) is worth more than 1000 Kesslar words. And, as a caveat, the United States is bigger than those three states. And most jobs are not factory jobs. But the theory of the case is that President Toxic won in 2016 because of angry Joe Sixpacks in the Rust Belt who lost their factory jobs. So I'm only going to focus on that. That said, I think the trends in these states mostly apply in all 50 states, and for all kinds of jobs. Long term, as you can see, the picture is unrelentingly bleak. In all three states, factory jobs are a fraction of what they used to be. Bill Clinton could argue in the 1990's that a rising tide did lift all boats. Although even then it was shaky in Pennsylvania. The W. Administration was a disaster for factory workers, even before the Great Recession. That's the case Hillary should have been making in 2016. All these factory job losses happened on a Republican's watch. One thing that I really like about Lichtman is that, like me, he is a lifelong Democrat. But he is willing to admit that President Toxic won in 2016 because people cast a very close but ultimately fatal judgment on the eight year track record of Obama/Biden. It gets very tricky now. Are Obama and Biden responsible for the massive job losses that occurred in these states from roughly January to June 2009? As a political question, David Axelrod will tell you that's a no brainer. He says he knew by Spring 2009 that Democrats would have political hell to pay for this in 2010 - even though it wasn't their fault. He was right, of course. If you count from Summer 2009, when The Great Recession ended, Obama/Biden created about 1 million manufacturing jobs on their watch. If you count from the day Obama took office, it was mostly a wash in all three states. Obama/Biden more or less got factory jobs back to where they were when they were elected. So these factory workers and their communities do have a legitimate reason to be pissed, I think. When that led them to vote for President Toxic, I felt I had to give them a pass. Particularly the ones that voted for Obama and Biden in 2008 or 2012 or both elections. It's hard to believe Whites who voted for Obama twice are malevolent racists. There's another thing that is worth mentioning here, if we could test different outcomes on an alternative Planet Earth. Between November 2008 when President Toxic won, and January 2009 when he was inaugurated, there was a bunch of stories written in lefty journals that worried that Trump would govern as a centrist. That he would cut deals with Democrats (if needed) to invest in infrastructure and create lots of blue collar jobs. Some progressives worried that Trump would be the new Reagan. The fear was he'd move just enough to the center and compromise just enough to create an unshakable political coalition based on undeniable massive job creation. I was one of those Democrats - like Pelosi, I think - actually HOPING he would do that. For the good of the country, and those broken factory towns. And the families dying "deaths of despair". We now know that President Toxic was too stupid or too mean or too incompetent to do that. He'll say he cut taxes (mostly for the 1 %, in fact) and that created jobs. Look at the data in the charts above. To the degree that factory jobs were created, it mostly happened in 2017 - before the tax cuts. And it was mostly on the same trend line of what has been happening from 2010 to 2016, under Obama and Biden. On an alternative Planet Earth, it would be fascinating to see what would have happened this November if COVID-19 never happened. If you just look at 2019 in those three states, it actually looks at lot like 2015. Which is to say that factory job growth was flat. If the huge Republican tax cuts to billionaires and "job creators" created lots of factory jobs in the Rust Belt in 2019, the factory workers themselves missed it. In fact, in calendar year 2019, manufacturing employment was actually DOWN by a few thousand jobs in all three states. If something similar hurt Obama/Biden/Clinton in 2016, would it have hurt President Toxic in 2020? We'll never know. But we do know he certainly didn't make America great again. Not if that means getting factory jobs back to what Bill Clinton managed to do. Was the economy rocking "for everyone" before COVID-19, like Scott says? Come on. Give me a fucking break. Now the question is different. Lichtman's keys on the economy are essentially like Reagan's question: are you better off than you were four years ago? Today, the answer is overwhelmingly obvious in all three states: NO, NO, and NO. They are all worse off than when President Toxic took power. Pennsylvania is actually worse off in terms of manufacturing jobs than at the bottom of The Great Recession. And President Toxic thinks he can win by talking about how Biden is going to destroy fracking jobs? Give me a fucking break. Again, the United States is bigger than the Rust Belt. And most jobs are not factory jobs. But no matter what part of the economy you look at, the trend is the same. It was "rocking" for Apple stock owners and employees before COVID-19. And it is rocking for them now. Everybody else? Not so much. All Employees: Manufacturing in Florida I'm throwing in Florida just to reinforce my points about fundamentals, the economy, and the political price President Toxic will pay, if Lichtman is right again. We don't think of Florida as a manufacturing state. But it has almost as many factory jobs as the three I listed above. Unlike the other three states, Florida is still better off in terms of manufacturing jobs than the day President Toxic took office. I think most people know that some of those factory jobs that left the Rust Belt actually moved to Florida or Alabama or the South - not China. Arguably, President Toxic should be doing okay in Florida. But he isn't. He's about 5 points behind Biden. Almost as much as he is in Michigan, Wisconsin, and Pennsylvania. Is it because of the job losses? Or the COVID-19 deaths? Or just that seniors there think President Toxic is a mean prick? Who knows? I don't. Ask Scott Jennings. He'll tell you.

  33. Yes. It was critical to stop Goldwater or he would enlarge Vietnam into a full war. So the "sane" people won and immediately burned alive 7 million yellow people because they were yellow. It seems standard in America for the winner to do a 180 and implement exactly what the voters thought they were voting against.
