I am sorry, but I can't. He is the President and what he says matters. It should matter. He is destroying the office as we know it. To me, that matters. I agree that every time he goes golfing and stays out of politics, the world is a better place. (what he does)5 points

Trump's Liberation Push
Latbear4blk and one other reacted to JKane for a topic
I think this current "Bernie Bro" base is mostly made of Russian bots. Bernie supports had reason (DNC establishment ignoring them and shoving unwanted Hillary down our throats) to feel disenfranchised and angry last time, this time, not at all. Their candidate was given a fair shake, in part because they helped to reshape the party some, but still failed to even come close to previous levels of support. That combined with the now well established Trump record and intentions means no true liberal would dream of sitting out--let alone voting R--this election. I've long said that Trump will do for the national Republican party exactly what Schwarzenegger did for the Californian Republican party--destroy it utterly. So what will Trump pull to undermine or invalidate the coming election, and how will people like RA1 justify ignoring it?2 points -

I think we agree on more than we disagree on what you say above. Especially agree about DeGaulle and Dien Bien Phu. But a few clarifying points are in order: 1. Roosevelt truly found himself between a rock and a hard place. He knew he had to make his intentions to help Britain palatable to the majority of Americans who still detested the trench warfare casualties of the first war. 2. Without the USSR, America, the UK and other allies would have suffered much greater losses if America hadn't sent supplies to Russia in its darkest days. Damned if you do; damned if you don't. 2. Yes, it was good for both Europe and the US that the region not be left in tatters. There's much to be said for enlightened self interest. Sine we've touched on leadership in one way or another in these posts, I take this opportunity to point to an article in the April 20th issue of The New Yorker. It's about the guy who's the most respected individual in America at this moment. Dr. Tony Fauci is the subject of a profile piece that chronicles not only his steady and forthright leadership in the cause of defeating Covid19, but also sheds light on his pioneering work to help save millions from the scourge of HIV AIDS. He credits Larry Kramer and other activists (once his avowed enemies in the early days of that crisis) for helping enlighten him and change the course of the war on that disease. If there was ever a guy I think we can all appreciate for his leadership, here is that man: https://www.newyorker.com/magazine/2020/04/20/how-anthony-fauci-became-americas-doctor2 points -

What are you doing to keep moving during CoVid? I can't really go out a lot so I got a stationary bike that I have been riding daily. I'm up to 15 miles per day and sweating my ass off. The fucking app says it is a "leisure ride." I want to ditch the app as there is nothing leisure about it for me. What are you doing?1 point

So many pundits claim to know just whom Joe Biden needs as a VP candidate, but I a probably the most reliable! (j/k) Anyway, I have concluded that Michelle Obama is the best choice! https://pittsburgh.cbslocal.com/2020/04/20/joe-biden-says-he-would-pick-michelle-obama-to-be-his-vice-president/1 point

I just read that the largest Pride parade in the world has been moved from June until November. I wouldn't be surprised if may US cities will have to delay their June Pride celebrations as well. http://fabricioviana.com/parada-lgbt-de-sao-paulo-muda-data-por-conta-do-coronavirus-de-junho-para-novembro/?fbclid=IwAR3Nt1nrDpmDUl0Jc3hegWvbPZA-tf581o9ocAoF6B0Fm3mk-Rwbub-KeNc1 point

So, again (literally EVERY Republican presidency of my life) the Republican president has massively ballooned the debt and crashed the economy, and the Democrat will get to fix it, again, while being screamed at about the debt the entire time. Your party is talking about bailing out the fucking OIL INDUSTRY. Yeah, in addition to all the subsidies and environmental clean up, an actual direct cash injection. But making sure everybody has access to fucking healthcare (especially NOW), oh hell no. Yes, it is partisan politics as usual, and your party is on the WRONG FUCKING SIDE yet again.1 point

His fairly tone-deaf assertion his candidate would be a woman was stupid, of course. But I've always been a big fan of Warren. That woman from Michigan would also work pretty well, I think.1 point

That's my take also. Trump is an authoritarian leader and there are more waiting in the wings when his time has passed - always have been, always will be. Our problem, in my opinion, is authoritarian followers. Rather than comparing Trump and Hitler, I've long been more interested in comparing Weimar Germans with today's U. S. citizenry. And it's pretty clear that, like a sizable portion of Third Reich Germans, our citizens today are willing to follow someone who does their thinking for them and will promise them protection from outside forces: the "other". The more their fears of the "other" are stoked, the more tightly they'll cleave to their "leader". And they will act - and vote - against their own interests. You can see this pattern repeated under Hitler, who had loyal followers even as firestorms swirled around them. You can see it in the bodies on the ground in Jim Jones' Guyana. And you can see it in the Trump followers voting to do away with their own health insurance. As far as I can tell, there's a genetic component to authoritarianism, in addition to learned behavior. I believe this because of its historical persistence in the human race, and its appearance in many other social species. And I believe that there are times in the evolution of the human species when human survival may depend on the willingness of large parts of the species to blindly follow an authoritarian "leader". From what I've read, there's a persistent 30% - 40% of humans who are hard-wired to be unquestioning followers. And I believe that's why Trump has such a persistent base. His authoritarian followers want things made simple, they want to be protected from the "other", they want to "believe", and they will sacrifice their own interests to do so. I also believe that, while the Republican party, as currently constituted, may attract more than its share of authoritarian followers, the Democratic party has some too. My bet is that some of Sanders' most loyal supporters fit the mold, in particular the ones who would rather vote for Trump than for Biden or Warren. I've posted about some of these beliefs elsewhere, and I'm still trying to learn everything I can about these folks. I think that, while authoritarian "followers" may be necessary at certain times in human evolution and the gene will persist, this is not one of those times. There are more important human qualities that are needed now - some also with genetic components - such as altruism, empathy and compassion. How to help bring these qualities forward, while pushing authoritarian obedience to the background, is what takes up much of my attention these days. Sorry for the rant, yet thanks for the opportunity to do so.1 point

Cambodia, Vietnam take different paths

Reader, you make very good points. I am not anti American. But America has made more than its fair share of foreign relations mistakes, just as Britain, France, Belgium, the Netherlands, Russia, China and other countries have done over the centuries. But you do twist facts. Yes, under the lend lease program America helped the United Kingdom in World War 2 before Germay declared War on it. Yet the same program provided arms and materiel to the USSR. Roosevelt made it very clear it was in Americas interest to do so. Similarly with the Marshall Plan, a truly visionary program that rebuilt western Europe in record time. Again, though, this was primarily in the US interests. America was desperate that the advance of the communist Soviet Union stopped at the soon to be East German border. Without the Marshall Plan so ravaged was western Europe that the Soviet Union would quickly have been at the Atlantic shoreline. Same with Vietnam. The US then was staunchly anti colonial. It continually pressed Britain to decolonize. During World War 2 it had fed money and materiel to Ho Chi Minh and his troops to help them harass the Japanese invaders. Near the end of the war Ho sent several letters to Roosevelt and Truman seeking assurance that its ally, the US, would prevent the French from renewing its repressive colonial regime. The US declined to do so. It turned its back on Vietnam because the French leader de Gaulle had made it perfectly clear that if France could not resume its control of Info China, it would give the Soviets free passage across its country. It turned out that the French were no match for the Vietnamese forces. Their rout at Dien Bien Phu was an ignominious defeat for de Gaulle.1 point -

I am back in Calif. and thought i would give my thoughts and opinions on my latest visit specifically regarding the sauna scene! Rio - i went to pointe202 5 nights and club117 .twice. i did not go to a Lions Sauna for reasons previously given above! Pointe202 was good all the nights i went with a lot of new guys working there! majority were between 19 and 25, toned to muscular bodies with maybe a 1/2 dozen twinks, 15+ semi to muscular guys and the rest average to toned bodies! i met a 24 yr old from Bahia there who was amazing and i went with him 3 different nights in 3-ways! i also met a really cute, guy who there on his first night and kinda shy(not in bed) and he has been messaging me every day since, he is in their version of the ROTC program at the University!(and is definitely a keeper!) 117 was packed on Tuesday with over 50+ guys working! more then 1/2 are muscular and over 24 up to 40+ Years old. there are a number of average body/big dicked guys!, São Paulo- i was there 4 nights Friday thru Monday. Friday and Saturday nights Lagoa was very busy! The new location is a drastically different layout and the first night i got lost several times with the four floors and several sets of stairs but eventually it all came together for me! I didn’t see any guys i knew from previous visits but met several new guys one of whom i really fell for! Termas 555(formerly Fragata)is not opened yet but rumor is it will be in March!1 point

i think i have tried to give honest reviews over the past19 years...BUT...we all have different / views /expectations. i think a lot of people in general like “what was and what replaces it is not as good” but i look at it this way, it is better then the alternative which is no sauna! No one could have a sauna as big as the old lagoa was because from a business standpoint the rent would be astronomical! I go to there place that has the hottest guys regardless if it has a big stage, large bar area, big drag queen shows, individual bathrooms, etc. but i know everyone has different hot button/ issues, and you have to discern what’s the reviewer is saying in relation to what you like and make a decision where you want to go! Over the years i have had the 3 main saunas in Rio change in my positioning of them(in 2008 -10 and again from 2014 to 2016 i seldom visited pointe! this trip i was there every night except Tuesday when i went to 117.1 point
