Travel observations (not a full report)
winterjanu and 3 others reacted to 10tazione for a topic
Ok I guess there won't be many new travel reports this year, so let me continue with mine. It was Makha Bucha day, so not all bars where open in Bangkok. I wanted to go to Luckyboys, but it was closed. So I went to Hotmale Bar. "We no have alcohol". No problem, I can drink orange juice. 5 minutes later the list of drinks miraculously expanded, but i was fine with my orange juice. Nice view from the bar down to the Patpong street. On the other hand also quite a few people with big cameras taking pictures of the 2nd floor from the street. After Hotmale Bar I went to Hotmale Gogo, then to Freshboys. It seemed like everything was closed on the right side of Patpong 2, while on the left side many bars where open (not sure about Screwboys, i think it was closed). Nothing to report that hasn't been reported yet. Enough boys. Some customers. Jupiter Inspired by reports about the midnight karaoke (thank you spoon!), i had that on my todo list (listening to songs, not singing ahem). Normally after midnight the preferred place for me to stay is my bed, so i decided to tick off this item as long as the jetlag was still favourable for late night activities (midnight in Bangkok, 6pm in Europe). There is a mandatory entrance fee even i you arrive close to midnight, and i don't think that changes after midnight (?) There where only a few customers, one bigger group engaged in some drinking games with some boys (must have been water, or does Makha Bucha day end at midnight on the dot?) I was sipping my drink until the singing started. Not sure if they ever mentioned there names, but now after rereading spoons report and doing some internet search i am pretty sure they where Poppy and PJ. Poppy, impressive stage presentation, very nice smile, clear voice, clear english pronounciation. Here some short videos on the Jupiter Facebook page, so you have a face to the names, couldnt find anything of better quality: Jupiter Video with Poppy on Facebook The other guy must have been PJ, the right guy in this video: Jupiter Video with Poppy and PJ on Facebook While PJ was singing and Poppy took a break, I went to Poppy and asked for a song: พระเอกจำลอง (phra aehk jam laawng, "fake protagonist") by Getsunova. It is the main song in the BL series "Theory of Love". There is now also an english version: I had no idea whether Getsunova is a known Thai band or not. Poppy didn't know the song but he knew the band and suggested a different song: ไกลแค่ไหน คือ ใกล้ (glai khae nai kheuu glai, "how far is near"), of course I said yes with a smile and a tip! Or some extended version: Later Poppy introduced a girl as the voice Thailand. Her voice as voluminous as her body. I think that is her: Jupiter Video with the Voice on Facebook If anyone has links to her performances at The Voice Thailand, please post them here! Getsunova They are a Thai band and I became aware of them while watching Theory of Love. Guys stuck in Europe or whereever, watch Thai BL movies to pass the time until we will be able to travel to Thailand again, doesnt look good for this year, and who knows if it will ever be the same again ... The lead singer is a heir of the restaurant chain S&P. There are a few more songs I really like, ความเงียบดังที่สุด (khwaam ngiiap dang thee soot, "the loudest silence", 100M views quite impressive) คนไม่จำเป็น (khon mai jam bpen, "inessential person") The getsunova story does not end here, but led me to some very Thai environment (something new to me, I am just an ordinary turist), but i am not sure i will report about that ...4 points -

Will the Palm Springs Escort Weekend get cancelled?

The truth is: Trump is a RACIST. When he improperly calls COVID-19 the "Chinese virus" at the presidential lectern, he is stoking racism. That's what he does to deflect blame. No one is denying the truth about where the virus likely originated. The truth is: the virus could have originated from numerous places. "Wet markets" exist all over the world. "The consensus among researchers studying the spread of the virus pinpoints COVID-19’s likely origin to a “wet market,” or live animal market, in Wuhan, China. Though experts have not ruled out the possibility that the pathogen could have been brought to the market by an already infected person, there is no evidence to suggest COVID-19 originated outside the country. The origin theory for the virus is supplemented by preliminary research into the disease’s genome, as well as the origins of similar diseases. Researchers at the Shanghai Public Health Clinical Centre published the genome of COVID-19 two weeks after cases were reported in late December 2019. Gene sequencing analysis strongly suggests the virus originated in bats and was transferred to humans through a yet-unidentified intermediary species. In early February, Chinese researchers published work suggesting the intermediary species may have been the pangolin (also called a scaly anteater), though this work has not yet undergone a peer-reviewed study." RA1, I am sorry to say you have now certified your "asshole" status with me. Governor Cuomo is behaving exactly the way a LEADER is supposed to behave, with sincere compassion, truth, and resolve. He is openly attempting to save every life in New York State. If New York survives this disaster, Andrew Cuomo will go down in history as a great leader for his time. Thank God the Doctor Is In. Peeking out our windows, we see America shriveling. "Donald Trump, the ultimate “me” guy, is in a “we” crisis and it isn’t pretty. The president is so consumed by his desire to get back his binky, a soaring stock market, that he continues to taffy-twist the facts, leaving us to look elsewhere — to Dr. Fauci and governors like Andrew Cuomo and Gavin Newsom — for leadership during this grim odyssey."2 points -

Congratulations for the shittiest post I have ever read on this forum. My people are dying in thousands in Italy. Who cares about what happens in one of the most historic countries of the world... The most important thing is that I can still get fucked in Brazil. You should care about Italy... Because in the end, that's what will probably happen in your country too.2 points -

I had a gastric sleeve done at Bumrungrad in December 2017. I thought others might like to hear my experience. First, I spent a lot of time researching and talking to my doctor. He recommended a surgeon for me and I met with him. I liked him and we set a date for the preoperative procedures which included sending a camera down my throat and heart exam, etc. The throat exam was done under anesthesia and thus I remember nothing. But, all the doctors I met with signed off on the procedure so it was a go. The cost for the surgery was estimated at 650,000-700,000 Thai-Baht which included 4 nights in the hospital. The procedure itself took 2 hours. I was in the post op room for 2 more hours and then in my room. The doctors and nurses took great care of me in the room. The first night was very uncomfortable but not a great deal of pain. They did have me on pain killers. It was hard to sleep though although I felt I got more sleep in those 4 days than ever in my life. I had two doctors that checked in on me daily. The nurses were never more than one minute away if I pressed the button. They were professional and the room was great. I opted for a single room and it had a table and chairs and a sofa. It allowed me to move from my bed to different places in the room during the day to sit and read email, etc. The hospital Internet was great and never went down. The food was very bland as I was on an all liquid diet but that was expected. When the doctor released me, I felt fine and no pain. I had to go back to the doctor two times the first week to have the stitches removed and get checked. All was good and after those two visits, I was told to come back in one month. They put me on an all liquid diet and it has been fine. After 2 weeks of surgery I lost 25 pounds. Last week was the 4 month mark and I have lost 100 pounds since December. It has been an easy transition and much easier than I expected. I had little pain and little discomfort after a week or two. I have adjusted to real food but smaller portions. I am now swimming one hour per day and it has been healthy for me. I walk much better and am so much more active. My sex drive is up and I decided to start PrEP as there are just too many sexy Thai guys that need my assistance. My pants sizes are down and I feel better than I have in many years. It was a very good gamble for me to get the surgery. I am quite happy with the results. I can't express how much I recommend Bumrungrad. If others are interested in the doctor's name, PM me and I'll be happy to share. He not only did a great job but he made it easier than expected and I have had 3 friends use him and all had excellent experiences.1 point

When they say that the elderly and immune compromised people are at the highest risk for death from coronavirus, one thinks HIV. But today's news has a different idea: https://www.nydailynews.com/coronavirus/ny-coronavirus-people-well-controlled-hiv-risk-not-significantly-risk-20200310-z7apcfqcg5bq3hfocsybn3e2fi-story.html1 point

I've heard a couple mentions of HIV medications in trials to see if they help with the Coronavirus. Studying all those currently on PREP or HIV medications seems like a promising shortcut indeed.1 point

In the USA, the President is one, among many, who believes the coronavirus will go away with the onset of warm weather. According to Alexa, the low temp in Bangkok is 25C. The high will be 30C. That means the reports of new cases in Thailand must be fake news.1 point

What to know before booking flights
williewillie reacted to TotallyOz for a topic
IMHO, the borders need to be closed and this requirement was the way to do it without directly stating it. A good start. As for the Thais abroad, I don't get that either and it should not happen. I have many friends in Thailand who are considering moving back to USA now but the situation there is worse. Again, just me, but everyone that can needs to stay put and wait this out. No travel for fun.1 point -
Yes buy him a flight ticket home is good idea if you really want to help him.1 point

Of course, it is always the less privileged who suffer the most. Not only all those workers without a safety net are being laid off. Besides, all the low wages essential workers have to keep working for two cents and face the risk of getting infected while better paid workers stay at home teleworking. Plus the thousands (millions?) of kids attending public schools who will not receive any education for months, widening the gap with more affluent students. I am glad my charter school improvised a distance learning plan that has worked effectively this first week of lock down. It was just made official in DC, the schools will stay closed at least until April 27th.1 point -
NOTE -- I just watched "Santi-Vina" and enjoyed it. This link will take you to the Thai Film Archive site and access to the films mentioned below. https://www.youtube.com/user/FilmArchiveThailand ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- From Khaosod English BANGKOK — A host of films deemed to be “historically and culturally significant” are now available to view for free on YouTube. The Thai Film Archive is continually adding films to a Covid-19 playlist on their YouTube channel, which includes the feature length “Santi-Vina” (1954) and clips of the oldest Thai film with a katoey (transgender woman) from the same year. “Very few people have seen it ‘Santi-Vina,’ since the film was lost for so long. Young people in quaratine at home should try watching Santi-Vina, as well as other films, for education,” Orawan Chawasilp, a public relations office from the film archive said. Undoubtedly the main feature of the Covid playlist is “Santi-Vina,” the first Thai feature shot in color on 35mm with sound. It was lost for six decades and only recently restored and briefly screened at Scala Theater in 2016. Read our review here. Many other films on the playlist are documentary film clips that entered the National Film Registry for preservation in October, such as “Muay Thai” (1963) which records the teachings of Bua Wad-im, a Thai boxer known for his Korat style of muay thai. Love Thai ghost movies? “Prai Takian” (1940) is considered to be the genre’s prototype, complete with slapstick humor. The restored 12-minute clip from “It Happens Because of a Katoey” (Katoey Pen Het) (1954) is the oldest-known Thai film with a transgender woman. https://www.khaosodenglish.com/life/arts/2020/03/20/classic-thai-films-available-on-youtube-for-quarantine-watching/1 point

Do not plan on it for March and wait and see for April. New rules just came out making it harder to get into the country. Right now, bars are supposed to be closed. We are at Level 2 and friends in the gov't have said we are near Level 3. If that happens, everything closes. Not a good time to travel anywhere IMHO.1 point

Trip Report from the Philippines
khaolakguy reacted to GWMinUS for a topic
I wrote a reply to Dave but it was a private message. I am sure he will not mind my posting it here. Dave, I think going to the South of the Philippines, to Cebu City, is better than to Manila. The many guys there are looking for a Friend, or Relationship, and are very open to Traveling with an older man. They are not Money Boys in the same sense as Thailand. But they do like Friends with Benefits and All Expense Paid Travel!! As I have said, I met most of my guys on PlanetRomeo, now it is just Romeo. If you are using an Andriod Phone you can CAM on Romeo. They also like to chat and CAM on Whatsapp and some use LINE. Once you make a Friend it is better to use Facebook. In the Philippines, the two Mobile companies, Globe and SMART, give the guys free TXT on FB and FB Messenger. But there is a charge for data if you want to CAM. As to places to visit, there are many on Cebu Island. To the north there are the Islands of Bantayan and Malapascua. Both are beautiful. I do not recommend the Camotes, they are not as well developed. Then down south there is Oslob, to see the giant whale sharks, and Santander, to go Cayoneering!! If you are in good shape you will love a guided tour down the river and jumping 20 feet or more into a pool of water!! One area I have not been is Tubuelah. It is on the other side of the Island, to the north, and has a beautiful beach. Not very developed. About 2 hours by Bus from Cebu City. Many of the Pinoy guys are Tops, or on the web they say they are Bi, which means Manly. If they say they are Gay it means they are more Fem and often a Bottom. I have visited many other places in the South. You might consider taking a young man to Palawan Island, to El Nido, Coron, or Sabang. You can fly to Puerto Princesa from Manila or Cebu City. And there are flights to Boracay Island from Manila and Cebu. Cebu also has several International Airlines connecting there. So there are good choices of Fares. Now when will it be safe to travel to the Philippines?? Who knows??? Here in the USA they are saying it might be 18 months before the COVID-19 virus is gone. GOOD LUCK!!1 point -
I have a booking for moreless the same dates in May. I will wait a little bit to see how the situation evolves but I do not think all this will be over in May. I think I will change my airline booking for November/December and book another ticket earlier as soon as the situation is almost normal.1 point
