@anddy your memes are hilarious! The German humour is even funnier than British and American humour! i arrived Bangkok yesterday and airport was quiet. Didn’t visit bars in end (sorry @paulsf I know I told you I would drop by and drink with you) because I arranged to meet a boy and we went out for dinner and spent night together. i think if the bars are really closed, we can still meet boys using apps and messages.4 points

I just canceled my plans for the end of March and tentatively changing it to the first 12 days in May2 points -
Well, I have been to the Philippines and fortunately was able to fly back to the USA. I spent 3 weeks in Cebu City and 1 week in Manila. In Cebu most people were not wearing face masks. And the Malls were as full as ever. But in Manila many people were wearing masks and still going to the Malls. With my age, 79, and lung problems I decided to stay away from the crowds. Enjoyed meeting some great guys at my Condo and going to small restaurants to eat. I had wonderful experiences with two guys I have know before. A great experience meeting a new young man. And one terrible experience with a new guy from Cagayan de Oro. I had bought him a Ticket to fly to Cebu, and at the last minute he messaged me that his Sister would not let him come. Met some other guys for the day or evening with mixed results... But Pinoy Guys are still the GREATEST!! I must say by March 11 I was ready and just hoping to get my fight back to the USA. I certainly did not want to get banned from flying or having to spend 14 days quarantined at some US Military Base. My flight back on EVA through Taiwan was uneventful. But flying out of LAX on February 10 was a disaster. I flew from ABQ to LAX, went to the EVA Counter and was told the govt of the Philippines had banned flights from China, Korea, Hong Kong, Macau, AND Taiwan... After some tense minutes with the EVA Supervisor he took me to the Philippine Air Line Counter and got me on their flight to Manila and down to Cebu. EVA covered the expense. At least most of it. I had bought Premium Economy on EVA and PAL does not have that Seating Class on their B-777-300ER. So I got Coach for the price of Premium Economy. But I had three seats all to myself. Still considering asking EVA to pay me back the difference!!! Now just here in Santa Fe hoping there is food to buy at the Supermarket tomorrow. Life goes on...1 point

I don't really care about this one event. However, I do not understand why anyone in their right mind would travel or get into a gathering with people who do travel. I am not a doom and gloom kind of guy. But, I have no desire to go to a party, event, etc. in the USA or abroad right now. I have not been to a mall in 6 weeks or so and all my shopping is done online. I love movies but will not be going for the immediate future. There are precautions that we all must either take or know the risks. If others want to meet and play, that is their call as an adult. I just prefer not to be a part of it.1 point

Some bars have started to voluntarily close. There were rumors that all bars would be forced to close as it was a recommendation by the Health Ministry. The General has not agreed to do this. Yet. However, I would suspect that it is coming. I have not been going out and letting people into my apartment. There is just too much unknown right now and I'm not willing to put myself at risk. I predict that all schools will be asked to close. I predict all bars will be asked to close. I predict all non-essential visitors will be barred entry. I also predict Trump is defeated in November so just take all of my predictions with the value of one man's opinion.1 point

March 15. Walking along the Copabana beach today, I saw what looked like a bloco de rua (even the car with the stage on top was the same as bloco sem saida where samba was excellent). But it was the demonstration of people against Congress, again corruption and for current government : "dia do foda se" (fuck off day) - institutional dialog : fuck off. A plane in the sky alongside the beach was cayying a big poster : "Bikers and Bolsonaro are for Brazil". Multiple tee shirts, cap, etc, often praising Bolsonaro. Many people with masks including many wearing a mask with the colors of brasilian flag showing signs :"even worse than the coronavirus, the extreme left virus, the corruption virus, the left papers virus, ...". Many posters asking militar intervention "ja" (now) : we were sufficiently patient. A big poster "capitao aperte o botao" (captain, press the buton) I prefer not to translate the speech coming from the car.1 point -
Very glad to have another point of view than an obscure poster with an ax to grind. Thanks, Latbear.4blk.1 point

Trip Report from the Philippines
splinter1949 reacted to GWMinUS for a topic
My next enjoyable meet-up was with a guy I have known for 3 years. He lives in Dipolog City, on Mindanao, and is 19 yo. We have often talked about meeting there but this trip I invited him to come to Cebu City. He quickly agreed and even suggested taking the over-night ferry rather and flying from Dipolog to Cebu. Cost me 2500PHP, USD50, for his trip. He turned out to be Joy!! Lots of energy, speaks great English, and is most engaging. He was nicely built but not any hunk. He has met several Daddies in the PH, including some Filipino ones. He did have concerns about HIV and said we had to use Condoms. Not only for fucking but sucking. That all went away after we meet and he made Dad HAPPY HAPPY!!! To bad he could only stay for three days. But we did an afternoon of site-seeing. He is studying Tourism in College. I enjoyed seeing some places in Cebu city I had not been to previously. And he was really into Selfies!! We hired a taxi for the afternoon. It cost 1000PHP, about USD20. The driver took us to places and then waited for us there. Actually taxis in the Philippines are CHEAP!! The flag drop is 40PHP, USD1, and it seldom costs more that 100PHP, USD2, to get any place in the City. One day we went out to the new SM Seaview. It is now the biggest mall in the Philippines. I was taking him Ice Skating. But after getting there and his seeing people skating and falling he got "cold feet". Still a nice afternoon and a chance to buy him some gifts. Pasalubong!! He did have one difficult experience. He wanted to take Chicharron, fired pork skins, back to Dipolog City. He found a shop near that the Condo what sold them and bought 5 bags. But when he got to the ferry they made him throw them away. Problem with the Asia Swine Fever!! But he took it all in stride!! Those are the kind of Filipino guys I enjoy the most!!1 point -
I reply to Mack's questions. My contacts are all through PlanetRomeo. But I understand that Whatsup is very popular in the Philippines. My "meet-ups" are more about Companionship than Sex! I enjoy knowing my guys there and being involved in their lives. Just going out for dinner, a movie, or to the Mall is more important to me. But I admit I am still a Sex Tourist... I did contact some Chat Buddies who declined to meet me once they found I was not Relationship Material. I accept that. Few guys down in Cebu City are looking for a One Night Lay! I did hire one guy for Massage. He came to my Condo. Turned out to be MUCH chubbier than his Pics on PlanetRomeo. But he gave me a great massage and I paid him 500PHP, about USD10. I saw only a few massage posts on PlanetRomeo. Some looked HOT and they was asking 1000PHP, about USD 20. There are no Gay Bars in Cebu, per say. There are three popular mixed Discos, ICON, OQTAGON and LIV Supper Club. The guys love to go out for an expense paid evening of Dance and Drinks!! The action starts at 10pm and goes until 6am. But given the COVID-19 Virus I avoided those and other crowded venues this trip!!! I also usually plan a side trip when visiting Cebu or Manila. Enjoy going to a nice resort and enjoying the beach or pools. And of course taking a nice Pinoy Guy with me. But again this trip my plans for those did not work out. the Crimson was a great alternative. Beautiful swimming pool, great breakfast buffet, and adjacent to a huge mall, Festival Mall. So to each their own... But it is still More Fun in the Philippines!!!1 point

Do you live in the Philippines? Do you read the local Newspapers? I am just back from 4 weeks there and I read all the News Reports in the Manila Newspapers. And even they say the "Ground Breaking" was just Hipe!! The bigger problems are the plans of DOT to change the location of Stations and force relocation of many more residents and small businesses. Plus the changes seeming to be for the benefit of influential, meaning rich, developers. Put the Station next to my proposed Mall!!! The Mayor of Quezon City has come out demanding that President Duterte stopping the entire Project until community concerns are addressed. I think my "Facts" are very straight.1 point

Lions sauna + Beco do Rato Both are located almost in front of each other. Very different styles though. Lions sauna is still alive and A. whom I met in 117 went dancing in the cage (there is a golden cage above the stage) last Friday. He told me that there were not so many people but it was lively. As indicated in the Lions address just above, Lions is located close to "Beco do Rato". Beco do Rato is a very well known samba place with very good atmosphere, great music. Worth a visit at night if you are fed up with boys.1 point -

Trip Report from the Philippines

Thanks for your interest in my trip and experiences in the Philippines. So I will go into more detail... First my most enjoyable meet-up which was my last week in Manila. My guy just turned 30 yo. He is in great shape with a lean swimmers bod, nice pecs, beautiful ass, and loves Older Men!!! I met him 4 years ago. So you can say we have an ongoing relationship. He knows I have a long time Partner here in the USA and that is not an impediment to us enjoying our time together. He sincerely wants to meet and it is never about money. We met on Planet Romeo. At the time he was working at a major hotel in Saudi Arabia. After he returned to the PH I invited myself to meet him in Manila. We hit is off in more ways than one!! He turned old Dad from a Top into a Bottom!!! He is passionate and wants to fuck morning, noon, night, and middle of the night!!! WOW!!! But we also enjoyed other pleasures. He took me to some great local places to eat. Like the Dampa Sea Side Seafood Market, where you pick the fish from a tank and they cook it for you!! I had booked the Crimson Hotel in Alabang, in the southern area of Manila. 5 Stars at reasonable prices. We very much enjoy staying there and I highly recommend it! Shortly after my trip he moved to Bulacan, north of Manila, to take care of his elderly Father. He opened a small restaurant on the street floor of the house. And I did loan him money to get started. He paid me back in 6 months. The next year I bought him a ticket to Cebu City and we went to Bantayan Island for 1 week. Bantayan is the un-discovered Boracay of the Philippines. Beautiful white sand beaches. We relaxed in the sun and did karaoke and Red Horse beers at night. Again SEX SEX SEX!!! But this trip my arthritic hip was giving me problems. So we did not go hiking. And the Resort turned out to be on the hillside above the beach. Lots of steps to negotiate. Not so good for me. This year's trip had many problems. He was living back in Manila so I planned a trip to the Laiya Beach area in Bantangas, south of Manila. But the Tall Volcano blew it's top and dumped gray ash on all the beaches. So I cancelled that plan and booked to meet my Guy in Manila. BUT he was no longer in Manila. He had moved to Dumaguete City on Negros to take care of his old Auntie. AHHH obligations of Family. So what to do. I had booked my flight back to the USA from Manila. So I bought him flights up to Manila to meet and then return. That cost me about USD100 tht was not planned. It turns out I and he just got out of Manila before the flights were locked down. And that is my Last Story, First... Still love the Philippines and the guys there!!1 point -

Quite apart from the confusing and contradictory statements emanating from various Thai government officials, my sense is that few of them are even taking advice from epidemiology and medical experts or even referring to data. They are just letting their xenophobia play out. The ban on visa-on-arrival for Chinese tourists is a good case study. From this Bangkok Post story (https://www.bangkokpost.com/learning/easy/1847669/tourism-minister-against-scrapping-visas-on-arrival) Yet, we have Thailand begging China for supplies. Thailand needs to stock up in preparation for a larger number of cases which can only be expected. From https://www.bangkokpost.com/thailand/general/1878380/doctors-issue-stage-3-warning It's silly to antagonise a huge market like China and still be asking them for help. It's not even as if China is anymore a disease threat. The World Health Organisation has daily updates on the number of new cases per country. In the case of China, per province. You can see the data for 14 March here: https://www.who.int/docs/default-source/coronaviruse/situation-reports/20200314-sitrep-54-covid-19.pdf?sfvrsn=dcd46351_2 In the last 24 hours China had only 18 confirmed cases and 17 suspected cases. Out of a 1.4 billion population, such numbers do not warrant a ban on travel. China might have been a major source of infection a month ago, but no more. I would much rather they let in Chinese tourists to help keep the bars and massage parlours alive while we sit in our countries cooling our heels, than to have the whole sector collapse for lack of customers. The madness even gets to leaving a dead body on the sidewalk for more than six hours. https://www.bangkokpost.com/thailand/general/1878280/virus-fears-keep-rescuers-from-handling-body-of-chinese-man Is Fujian really a province with high coronavirus risk? Look again at the WHO data. In the last 24 hours, zero confirmed cases; zero suspected cases.1 point -

I'm supposed to be flying out from Australia in 5 weeks (transiting through Singapore) but I've already resigned myself to the fact that I probably won't be going anymore. There are just too many unknown variables - the situation is constantly changing so I don't know what the situation will be with flights from Australia, whether Thailand will be banning flights, or imposing mandatory quarantining, and the fact that it's possible I'll have to quarantine when I get back, and many other likely scenarios. It's just too hard. I was really hanging out to see my Thai guys, but I guess it will just have to wait until this whole thing has blown over. I hope that somehow I'll be able to get a credit or something for my flights and accomodation (booked as a package through Expedia), but if not, at least it wasn't a massive amount. but I am thankful that the situation here isn't as bad as some other countries at the moment. this is just the least of my worries compared to what is happening in Italy etc1 point -

I am waiting a little bit more, but at this point I am starting to let hope go and accept reality. I will probably cancel my trip in April. I do not need the saunas. I already have a network independent from them. No booze, restaurants, and bars? You are describing all cities. Rio cannot be worse than DC. Those are not the reason why I would cancel. It is the risk to be quarantined.1 point -
No, you were too early, Since at least 1 yr now the carts & all that are only allowed in after 15/16.00. But the works seem to be done quite rigorously and the whole streetsurface gets rebuilt, incl all the pipes etc. Was intended to be finished before the infamous Songkran water-wars, but these are said to have been cancelled. The magic of KSR for young bekpekkers were also the said to be thousands of nice&willing Thai girls for interracial meetings. An awful long time ago (probably still <2000 and the beach) there was even a small gay such scene. Its fading glory is also speeded up by the new generation not reading guidebooks anymore and the ready supply of 1000s of assumed cheap hoStels now about anywhere in BKK listed on the well known booking sites. In the past you had to go there for cheap beds. Much better food&entertainmant however can be had in the side streets, Rambuttree and its continuation ´hlang wat´=behind the wat. KSR is more deafening loud music and emptying green big bottles of Chang.1 point

Last information on Rio de Janeiro In Pointe now. Even though there is a party tonite, the number of customers and garotos is extremely low. With the coronavirus looking like balloons in the ceiling of the bar, some waiters wearing masks, the limited number of boys, the atmosphere is not inviting you to take a boy to a cabin. My regular was busy with a customer and just left. As reported elsewhere, many venues have already been closed this week end : The Week, the Buraco da Lacraia in Lapa, National Teatro, in fact all places where more than 500 persons gather. The small commercial center close to Siqueira Campos station is also closed. I was in front of Cable Car to Sugarloaf this morning and did not have impression that it was in operation. It is clear that all places where people gather are going to be closed sooner or later. In Pointe, they already receives phone call mentioning that they should be ready to close when it will be decided. Restaurants and bars might close also. Without boys, booze and fun, time in Rio will not be fun! If you have a trip planned to Rio in the short term, it is certainly better to cancel it except if you like cities without boys, without booze and without restaurants and bars1 point

Until today, people in saunas in Rio seemed to ignore the virus, only a small number of persons being tested positive. Now the virus is officially in almost all the states and the number of identified cases increases (200 confirmed - 1500 suspected). People around Bolsonaro who went with him to meet Trump in the US have been diagnosed positive (a Senator, the responsible of communication and the lawyer of Bolsonaro). At present Bolsonaro has been tested negative but will have to perform a second test soon. In SP where most of the identified cases occured, schools are going to be closed progressively next week. Mass gatherings of more than 500 persons are forbiden. Many flights to and from Brazil are cancelled : I was with a garoto in 117 tonite and he told me that a customer who was to arrive from Dallas today had his flight cancelled and cancelled therefore the whole trip. ABC Bailao in SP (place where older gentlemen and youger men meet) is open but informed that this may change following to requests from Administration. They ask their visitors to avoid kissing, hand shaking, ... In 117, the manager passed today among boys and customers to spread an alcoholic gel on everyone's hands. There were less customers today in 117 and a rumor among boys says that the club might be closed soon (only a rumor, nothing certain but likely).1 point

It does seem that the consensus advice of governments and health care types is avoid unnecessary travel. Maybe worth listening to that. Even if you think the risk is the same in Thailand as it is at home, I wouldn't want to test the health care system here in Thailand when it is Stage 3. Health care systems in much more developed countries are overwhelmed.1 point -

Here we are. This has not happened yet in Brazil but these cancellations of public events and of gatherings are already a reality in some European countries in particular Italy and as a consequence, the saunas are closed (in Italy, in Berlin, ...) and I guess that if they are not closed, frequentation should be very low. I should be back to Brazil in May but will closely check the situation before flying. It is not easy (and not fun) to maintain a social distance of 5ft in a sauna cabin !1 point

Reluctantly my vote went for cancelling. Numazu has wide and ongoing experience of Bangkok. As I understand his post, he wanted to show his BF Bangkok and participate in Songkran and GCircuit. Well, the GCircuit is not happening, Songkran will be tempered if not closed down as the date draws near to reduce chances of exposure to the virus. So the Bangkok expereince might be a disappointment to Numazu and leave his BF wondering what all the fuss was about. Another concern based on my own planning for a visit is that I cancelled my February trip, have planned a visit in late May instead...BUT am finding that flyng from the wet coast of the US creates complicated travel planning which is subject to alteration by the airlines. I have an internal trip in the US in April flying from SFO to Washington DC booked on United (whose miles Numazu is using for his trip). At least once a week, United informs me that my flights have been changed to another time /airport. When I look for a booking for the May / June period almost every flight involves flying though Japan, Hong Kong, Korea, or Taiwan. Each of which might raise an eyebrow or two at immigration in Bangkok, not to mention in the US when I return. I have, I suppose, the option of flying to the east coast of the US and flying via the Middle East or taking Singapore airlines or Qantas...all these options add extra hours which Hank75 points out means more time cooped up with the paranoid sanitizing seats, tray tables, screens, and one another. It's a quandary... I know I'll get back to Thailand but don't know when, just that I will. I also know that Numazu will go back to Thailand, but for his BF, well the full-on Numazu in Thailand experience is something to behold...but next month all of the piece may not be there. Numazu, let me/us know what you decide. If it is a "go", I'd be interested in the routing.1 point

I have had to travel extensively for work even during the virus escalation. While I had the same thoughts as you (relatively “young”...well at least not close to retirement! healthy etc..) with good hygiene I thought I would be fairly relaxed about it all. Let me tell you. Long haul travel is zero fun. Other people’s paranoia and tension starts to rub off especially in airports and places with crowds. I don’t doubt you could have a good time in Bangkok proper especially if you picked the right hotels and activities, but the actual commute through flights and airports is a complete pain in the a**. My friend just returned from Bangkok, he had an average time but said he felt leery everytime he got into a taxi because a number of known cases were via passenger-driver transmissions and he doubted the drivers were properly sanitizing their vehicles. Tuk tuk suddenly felt like a very attractive option. The situation changed significantly once the first death was recorded, far more panic, so it depends also if another death occurs or things remain stable. On SK2020, this is a tremendous financial loss for the organisers. I heard they are very appreciative if ticket holders opt for SK2021 instead of refunds as this helps to keep the event going for next year.1 point

I do not think there is risk right now, but if the risk rises it is possible that the government closed down all saunas and public baths.
