Hey all, Hope you guys have had a TERRIFIC start to 2020. My hubby and I came to Rio For Carnaval last saturday, February 22, at around 9 a.m. we were too excited to be here, but soon realized that the huge crowd of garatos we expected at the saunas WOULD NOT exist during carnaval 2020. This was not meant as a trip report (I’m not sure if I’ll get around to write one for this trip), but it turned out to be as long as one. My boy also chatted with most of the waiters and said hi to the singer dancer performing, apparently, he used to work there as a singer/dancer. We took our leave and walked the long way round back to Patpong 2, he said his secret to keeping slim after a meal. He asked which boy bar I wanted to go, it was his night so I asked him to decide. He chose Hotmale where he wanted to see his friend. His friend was Thai and one of the three coyote dancers there that night. His friend was crazy hype and energetic with his dance and probably a little drunk. We had a good time with his friend and also one of the mamasan he knew, who was also probably recruiting him to the bar. Since Hotmale closed at 1, I asked him to accompany me to another bar until closing time 2 am. He chose his former bar, Screwboys. He caught up with a mamasan, who was happy to see him. During the show, he told me that the ladyboy performer used to have a thing for him but he had to reject her, since he only liked boys. My usual mamasan who was away for the past three nights was supposed to be back that night, but was out drinking with a customer at Moonlight. She came back a while after and greeted me. Also in a moment of lust and him being probably slightly drunk, I was not sure if he really meant it. Many thoughts went through my head but I told myself to stop and cherish that moment. I am a hopeless romantic and I chose to believe in love, with ulterior motives or not, I believe love comes in many forms. I do truly love him as well. But I cannot say yes and I did not say no. I told him not to stop anything for me. After that romantic moment passed, he asked if I wanted another round of sex as he had decided he wanted to go back to his room and go to work tomorrow. I declined, I was already satisfied emotionally that night. He tucked me into bed and left. The day after, I started missing him badly as I exchanged a few messages with him to say goodbye as I leave for the airport. It has been a few days and I still do think about him and look at his pictures. He has not messaged since I left, and I do not intend to do so either, it is my way of coping. I will contact him again if I’m going back to Bangkok, but I’ll want to go back only if he was around. I was reunited with adorable Myanmar boy and it was bittersweet.

From Bangkok Post Vendor nabbed for overpriced masks A vendor was arrested on Friday for selling face masks at an inflated price during a check on shops in the Government Complex after authorities received complaints. The vendor, identified only as Maneerat, was charged with violating price-control regulations. Face masks and hand-sanitising gel were categorised as specially controlled goods after demand skyrocketed amid fears of the Covid-19 outbreak. Ms Maneerat, who reportedly sold a pack of five masks at 100 baht, may face a jail term of seven years and/or a fine of up to 140,000 baht. The suspect admitted to selling packs at 100 baht each, but said the cost price was high and she could not sell them for any less. Not far from her shop, people were queuing up outside a Government Pharmaceutical Organisation (GPO) shop, where packs of 10 masks were sold at 10 baht each. Things are slow here. It is quiet. I don't think numbers are accurate. The effect on tourism will be a major issue for the country and the world. IMHO, the worst is yet to come. I do not think any country will be immune.It is going to spread.We are coming up on Spring break for USA and when that happens, people will be going abroad and possibly risk getting sick and then returning to the USA. Personally, I do not see this as a 2 month issue. It will go on well into or past the summer.

If it’s your first time going to the DR, you’re not a seasoned traveler to the DR, and you can easily be spotted by locals as a gringo tourist, I strongly advise you to stick on your first trip to a guide and do NOT bring unvetted strangers / trade / buggarones / anonymous online hookups back to your hotel room. Even the ones on Grindr and other hookup apps are saying that they just want a date, but those are the ones who consider themselves “middle class” or “educated” (relative to the DR), and are too proud to say that they want your money upfront. But what they will do is expect you to give them money after the deed or the date is done... for something like travel expenses, school, family medical emergency, fill in the blank for the excuse. (In my opinion, as someone who has gone there regularly for over 10 years, THOSE pretentious hustlers are the worst.) Dont believe me? Just try to have a “date” with one of those nice guys you meet on Grindr or even at a gay bar in SD, then do the deed, and try to get him to leave WITHOUT exchanging what he thinks is a reasonable sum for his time. Even if he told you upfront that he’s not looking for money and he isn’t that type of “low class” guy (social class — or the perception and belief of it — is a recurring, persistent obsession in the DR).

My regular long-time works at Toys Boys and he often sits outside when he video calls me on Messenger, usually any time between 10pm and midnight and is always showing me pics of the soi down to BBB being almost entirely devoid of customers (as indeed is TB itself inside to judge by the flashes inside he shows me).
