  1. Day 12 - Day 3 Laos trip cont' Heading back to the city, our next stop is the morning market near the bus station. I just wanted to see whats there, but its really just a local market selling lots of ordinary items, and some female sellers are stunned by Y handsome look there lol. We then went to Wat Si Muang which is a Khmer style temple. Very interesting temple with lots of interesting history. I actually planned to visit one more temple (Wat sisaket) and the museum Haw Phra Kaew, but apparently they closed at 6pm and we didnt make it. Instead, I asked the driver to drop us at the Hotel, and walked near the riverside to watch the sunset with Y. After sunset, Y asked me if he can go back to sleep, i said yes sure. We went back to hotel together and Y saw that his laundry is already returned when we went into the room. I told Y ill go out tonight and asked if he wanted anything, He said if possible buy some Lao food. As i usually do when i travelled to a new place/city, I like to explore the city by foot, and just walked to one of the point of interest that is within my walking distance limit and came back a different route. I saw in the pamphlet there is a place called Vientiane walking street, which is on the other side of Chao Anouvong Park, so i walked there with google map as my guide. I did walked pass the Presidential palace and the view at night is remarkable. But when i arrived to the location google said about Vientiane walking street, its pretty much deserted. I walked a little further and saw few a different interesting place, where there are few pop up cabin restaurants and have a stage in the middle of the L shape road, where there are a singer performing. But again, the whole area is empty, not many people, i guess maybe i was there too early and this place would be perfect for drinking. I walked back on the road next to mekong river and on the side there is another area with 3 big sections of shops and restaurants down the stairs from the road. One section have a fun fair style, the middle one have a stage where i spent most of my time there watching the performance, with a host that is clearly gay. There is a group of teenage Lao girls all donning Lao traditional costumes, i assumed from different tribes, and the host called few of them at a time to perform. Most of the performance are dance performance. But not traditional Lao dance that id hope for. Instead, they dance to K-Pop songs imitating the coreography from the music videos. I guess Korean wave is affecting Lao youngster too. It was very entertaining, but the event ended soon enough, so i continue to the last section, which is more shops and this time some restaurants selling international food, like dimsum, sushi, korean fish cakes etc, and there is a fountain in the middle. I went back up to the night makret, did a quick browse and buy one souvenir and then went to the main street to buy some street food for our dinner. I bought some grilled squid, with lao version of som tam, called tum mak hoong, and some noodles. Also bought a gift for Y in one of the shops on the street. Back at hotel, Y still asleep, so I put aside the food and get into bed too mostly on my phone. Not long after, he woke up and eat some of the food. Then he asked if we can go drink outside, but most of the closer shops are closed, so i suggest we go to the mini BigC so he can buy drinks to drink back at hotel. Tonight is the last night, as tomorrow we will go back to Bangkok. One thing i should mentioned about Y, he recently went through a really bad issue back home. So some of our chat has been about his issue and no, its not about money. Throughout our travelling together, there are times that he suddenly in a very bad mood, and I always gave him his space when he need it. Just a bit later after, he will tell me why or what happened, and im more than happy to lend my ears. And this intimate sharing somehow made me feel closer to him and I really appreciate it when boys feels comfortable enough to tell me some of his private issue.

  2. Day 12 - Day 3 Laos trip Y woke up early today (7am, which is not too early for me), and told me he is hungry and want to go eat outside. I told him we got buffet breakfast at hotel but he said he dont want to eat the buffet, and dont mind going out alone. I told him ok, and i went back to sleep and woke up later when he came back. I had my breakfast buffet alone meanwhile and back to hotel for some more bedroom activities. After day activities, I have to say ive grown fond of morning gymnastic more than at night. Funny titbit during this session though. Y proclaimed that he dont want to cum this morning. I obviously has no issue with that, but also took that as a challenge. Needless to say, halfway through, he suddenly told me he wanted to cum, so mission accomplished lol. Y also asked if he can send some clothes to laundry as he dont have anymore change of clothes after today, so i called the hotel to asked when will we get the laundry and they say by evening, so I told Y he can just use the hotel laundry service. Revisiting Y proposal yesterday, we went to reception again, this time the older staff manning the reception. I asked about the restaurant where we can eat on a boat again and he seems to know the place, and tell us it is a bit outside the city as well. I asked him to give me a quote, so he called the driver and asked. Got a different quote this time compared to yesterday, and i asked if they can make the price similar to yesterday and got a yes and I added few more places near the city as part of the trip. Its already near noonish already so we decided to go to the boat/restaurant first. Thanks to Y, we are going to eat lunch on a boat on the mekong river (technically its Nam Ngum river). The restaurant is called Tha Ngon floating restaurants, and the reception told us it is quite famous amongst the Korean tourist. About 30mins drive to the restaurant, located in small village of Tha Ngon. It is a huge floating restaurant moored to the river bank. Y again took charge on the ordering and asked the waiter about the boat. Seems like we have to wait for a while for the boat, and Y is already hungry, so we sit at the floating restaurant first and order the food. As usual, Y order the food he thinks id eat, mostly seafood on offer here, farm and raised on the river itself. While eating, I can see few boats passing through, and the music is loud enough to be heard from the restaurant. One of the food Y order, which i wouldnt dare to eat is the dancing shrimp, which is small shrimp, eaten raw and alive. The waiter finally signal to us when our boat is ready, long after we finished our meals. Waiter asked if we would like to order anything for the boat ride, so we ordered drinks and snacks, and one plate of grilled shrimp. So, you can actually hired private boat by the hour here. We took one hour boat ride, and it was just me and Y, with 2 quite handsome Lao boatmen, one steering the boat, and another manning the Karaoke system. We had the whole boat, which can easily fit 20 people to ourselves. Surprisingly, there are some, limited amount of english songs VC on the karaoke system, and the guy manning the karaoke system even have a notebook listing some of the code for popular english songs. One thing i havent mentioned about Y, he likes to sings, and listen to ballads kind of songs (cambodian songs mostly). However, on the boat, he didnt find any of his songs, so I ended up the one who sings most of the time lol. Nevertheless, he said he enjoys the boat ride, of course, with him drinking few bottles of beers, and taking multiple selfies. He said next time he want to bring his family and friends here. I can see this would be an awesome location to hold private party very cheaply, maybe hold one for our forum members retreat?. The bills for the food is not much different than any other place in vientiane, but of course i have to pay for the use of the boat, which is extra, but all in all, definitely worth the experience.

  3. i think i have tried to give honest reviews over the past19 years...BUT...we all have different / views /expectations. i think a lot of people in general like “what was and what replaces it is not as good” but i look at it this way, it is better then the alternative which is no sauna! No one could have a sauna as big as the old lagoa was because from a business standpoint the rent would be astronomical! I go to there place that has the hottest guys regardless if it has a big stage, large bar area, big drag queen shows, individual bathrooms, etc. but i know everyone has different hot button/ issues, and you have to discern what’s the reviewer is saying in relation to what you like and make a decision where you want to go! Over the years i have had the 3 main saunas in Rio change in my positioning of them(in 2008 -10 and again from 2014 to 2016 i seldom visited pointe! this trip i was there every night except Tuesday when i went to 117.

  4. This is really in answer to a question by tamtam in a thread in the Gay Thailand forum, but it's better that I put the answer in Gay Cambodia so that it will be easier to find in future. I was there for four days last month, for a couple of work meetings and considerable free time. I've been to Phnom Penh perhaps ten years before and thus I didn't need to do the standard tourist attractions -- not that there are many. Two days, I think, would be enough. I would recommend the National Museum though. I was fortunate that I had a whole afternoon to myself on one of the days and spent three hours there to closing time. I checked out the bars Toolbox and Space Hair. I walked past Blue Chilli but the road in front had been dug up and was such a mess with trash everywhere, it was quite off-putting (no fault of the bar, I must stress). I also availed the services of young men at two massage places: Hatha Khmer and Dai Khmer. If I had more time, I might have tried a place called Paradise Massage , reportedly above POC bar, and if I didn't have to wake up early in the mornings for appointments and phone calls, I might have checked out the late night dance club Heart of Darkness (said to be increasingly gay) but I didn't. Both the bars I found boring. Basically, none of the waiters/hosts could speak any English. There's no conversation to be had unless you're with friends of your own, or able to strike up a conversation with other drinkers in the bar. They are small bars (Space Hair had 4 tables, Toolbox was full with eight customers). Toolbox at least had a show at 22:30h -- energetic dancing, nothing erotic. Space Hair had no show at all. Blue Chilli reputedly has a drag show -- not my cup of tea, so another reason not to prioritise that place. I can't say anything about POC bar since I did not visit. The cutest boys I found were a bunch of footballers monkeying around at Domino's Pizza! I had more entertainment and eye candy for the price of a pizza than both bars put together. I don't know why Sharky Bar and Restaurant is sometimes mentioned as a place to go. Research via tripadvisor reviews speak of too-loud music and cigarette smoke. The photos there show skimpily-dressed young women. At both places Hatha Khmer and Dai Khmer, oil massage was USD 10 for a 60-minute session. Expected tip USD 20. I found massage skills subpar. Even the afters were rather mechanical. In other words, there is no reason to go back to Phnom Penh (unless work calls again) for another ten years. I should be writing up fuller reports, but it's difficult to find the time. Will try over the next two weeks or so.

  6. She has improved, but she still reminds me of my stringent Catholic nuns from grade school, and not the principal, who could kick Trump's ass. Amy's sales pitch rings canned. Her constant waving of her credentials is not the best way to sell oneself. Her record and her popularity should be a known entity, but it's not. She doesn't look presidential. Her make-up and styling are dull and flat. She has helmet hair. Put her next to fat-man Trump and her physical impact sinks to ground level. Her voice is not commanding or easy on the ears. I don't see her rising to #1 or #2. She lost control of her message. Her flip-flop on Medicare-for-all hurt her badly. She started to sound like a politician, and the sound bites only get more contrived. She should have adopted Mayor Pete's version of health care from the start. She followed Bernie and is now paying the price. She lost her authenticity, and it's very hard to get that back.

I was in Phnom Penh recently. However, I haven't found the time to write up the trip reports. In the interim, and taking z909's point, I've given a reply to tamtam via a new thread in the Gay Cambodia forum. Perhaps further discussion, if merited, should be conducted there.

  8. Oh gosh, I feel so guilty about the delay (apologies) but I finally got around to writing the report about Ganymede. It is here: https://shamelessmacktwo.travel.blog/2020/02/09/almost-written-off-then-he-sat-on-me/ Of course it's a full ten months since OP Jamg03s posed his opening question of this thread. He's probably visited the place long ago.

  9. Day 11 - Day 2 Laos with Y We both have ample sleep and rest yesterday. Today, we woke quite early, some fun first then showered and clean up for breakfast downstair. Breakfast was sufficient for me. Its really basic on the buffet, bread and cereals, with fruits and several choices of jams, and two choices of ala carte, western (eggs and potatoes, hams etc) and asian (egg fried rice). Only the next day i learned that Y dont really like the breakfast at the hotel. Today we will do sightseeing. I already asked the hotel yesterday about places to go, and discussed with Y where we want to go today. We settled with visits to Buddha park which is quite a distance from city, and then came back to the city to a seafood place (cant recall the place, but it was suggested in the phamplet i got from hotel). Its basically a row of open air seafood restaurants and near a temple. Great food, we ate with our hired driver, Y took charge on the order. Bill is very reasonable compared to what we get, value for money. Buddha park is great too, plenty to see and great spot for pictures, and one of the biggest monument there you can actually go inside and climb to the top. Before going back to the city, i asked Y to tell the driver if we can go to the bridge crossing the border, called Thai-Lao Friendship Bridge to take some pics. After lunch, we go to Pha That Luang, a gold-covered large buddhist stupa. The top of the structure are actually made with solid gold, while the rest of the stupa is covered with gold painting. When we go here, there are vendors selling caged birds to be released. Y wanted to buy some and went inside the prayer area to pray and then release the birds. He asked me to take pictures and video while he is doing that. After that we went to Patuxai, sort of the Arc de Triomphe of Vientiane, built to commemorate national heroes who struggle to get independent from France. You can actually climb the stairs to go up the monument for a small fee. After this place Y told me he wanted to go back to hotel to sleep, and its already near sunset anyway, so we went back to hotel, and say goodbye to our driver. Y takes care of the tips, always asking me how much i gave if i tips in USD to ensure i tip reasonably. Someone mentioned this before, tips is considered as sign of respect rather than as perimeter of how good the service is, but Ive read that tips is not required in laos (i always research this beforehand) but seems like Y insist that we should still gives tips of reasonable amount to drivers, waiters etc. Im more than happy to give tips though, as i am happy with our driver, and having Y making sure that i never forget to tip and amount of tips is one less thing i need to worry about during the trip. Y went to sleep after a while in the room, but Im not sleepy so i went to browse through the night market which is very close to our hotel. It is just next to the mekong river, and it extends quite a stretch along the road, but there is a lot of shops selling similar things. I can easily categorize the shops in few categories, the handphone casing shops, souvenirs shops (magnets, shot glasses, key chains), Laos Silk shop, Jeans shop, Shirts, and food. Eventhough there are probably hundreds of these small stalls, they are just a repeats of those categories, and not much variety between the shops in the same category. But its filled with locals, much more than tourists, so its a great place to people watch. For street foods, its better to go along the road outside the night markets, where there are plenty of street food vendors selling lots of variety of food, mostly local food, with ocassional thai and others (like kebab). I went back to the hotel and went to bed for a bit, and we both woke up close to midnight, and Y wants to eat. We go out, this time since it is Friday night, I want to see the one and only Gay bar in Vientiane, CCC. So we walk to the Bar, passing the bar few times before i finally found it, and was a bit disappointed by the lack of crowd, though I didnt have much expectation anyway. We then settle at the same Lao restaurant we had yesterday and after supper, went back to hotel. One of the benefit of Y going back to sleep early after day activities is he is more willing to my hand wandering at night lol. Y did mentioned to me there is a place where we can actually eat on a boat on the mekong river, and can sing karaoke and stuff. I have no clue where the place is, as it didnt come up during my research. We did asked the lobby at night about the place but the reception is also clueless, and said during this time, at least in vientiane, the cruise boat didnt go through as the water level is too low. I guess we will revisit this again tomorrow morning.

  10. Papyrus Is Shutting All Its Stores I'm not 60 yet, so I don't think of myself as "old." With this child-like brain I'm stuck with, I doubt I will think of myself as old when I'm 70. However, with today's news that Papyrus is closing all of their greeting card and stationery stores because "consumers are switching to digital alternatives," I'm feeling really old and grumpy. Here is how I feel about digital greeting cards: I DON'T OPEN THEM. That goes true for invites, thank-you's, and holiday cards. I view the people who send this shit as CHEAP, LAZY, and without CLASS. Fine if you want to appear that way, just don't expect any kind of response from me. If my attitude about this makes me an old fart in the eyes of millennials, then I hope the scent of my ancient flatulence is seriously foul and slays these culture-less assholes. The gift of communication is dying in our culture, and I don't wish to play with those who are accelerating its death. My appreciation for fine paper and handwritten wit and poetry is too great to ponder a life without it. I still mail handwritten thank you notes, and I have no intention of changing. The next time a Republican tries to convince you that our economy is doing great, thanks to Trump, send the asshole to NYC to see all the "FOR RENT" signs on street-level business spaces.

  11. Amy Klobouchar finished third. This gives the media something to talk about, but I doubt she has the ability to energize voters further. Amy Klobouchar as a candidate has qualities similar to soggy cereal. Men don't think much of her. Women are on the fence, too. And voters of color are nowhere to be found. The liberal bias on CNN and MSNBC was in clear view last night as they ferociously praised Amy for her tepid success. I had to shut the TV off because I thought the pundits all needed to be fired, especially the bloated verbosity of Chris Matthews. I thought Amy's victory speech was awful, even for a third place finish. She's far less talented in front of microphone than Hillary Clinton, and that's not good. She uses the pronoun "I" WAY TOO MUCH. She's long needed a good speech writer and solid coaching. It's easy for me to be biased because I put money on Pete, but his speech and delivery was far superior to Amy's. His crowd was for more energized. Their roaring chants of "President Pete" were quite effective. And it was very clear that Pete, much like Obama and Bill Clinton, had prepared his speech in advance and used the opportunity to score political points. He appeared organized and ready to do battle. Pete was also brilliant and gracious to praise his fellow competitors, something Amy never mentioned.

RE: 737-800 Some airliners are complicated enough that such as captains have written a book to "explain" the "proper" flow. This simply means that they have discovered that the flow goes better either left to right or top to bottom, etc. I have had friends who are transitioning to new to them aircraft visit with such a book in hand, knowing I would be interested and rehearse informally with them. The 757 and 767 series seem to be two aircraft needing a book. Most sophisticated aircraft allow the "full" preflight to be done first flight of the day with abbreviated check lists used later. This vid obviously was the full preflight check. Thanks for presenting it. Best regards, RA1

  15. Quite late to the party. But im on episode 5 of Kiss the series. Its the first of the trilogy. Kiss me again is a prequel to kiss the series, and dark blue kiss is a sequel. Regarding kiss the series, Na, the ceo of charisma magazine looks a lot like kurt hummel of glee lol. He looks very girlish, very unlike his character who hooked up with models and a bit of a womanizer lol Pete and Kao is featured in kiss the series of course but so far, i dont see any boy love other than two really close friends. Cant wait to get to dark blue kiss.

shame on me for which I should rot in hell but even if certain good Samaritan member tried to help me with his picture, somehow I don't recall him even if he looks great. Would it be true what I often say to pesky mamasans " I like girls better " ? LOL Or guys from Bangkok Massage across the soi were more disruptive ?

Tool Box bar is nice. You can find it using Google Maps. Fun vibe. The other gay bars that I know of cluster around the same few blocks - along with a bunch of other bars. POC. Sharky's. I think Space Hair Salon and Bar turned into a fun scene at night, but no clue if that's still happening. All can be found using Google Maps. A couple of massage shops there also, but not tested by me.

Below is a photo from 2018, taken at a bubbletea cafe in Galle Fort, Sri Lanka, trying to make the best of their situation (no wifi). But as you said, the new generation finds the absence of wifi intolerable, so there was no one but me in this shop for over an hour. Oh, as for the sign cut off at the left edge of the picture, it says "I keep losing weight, but it keeps finding me." I find it quite apposite, and made me feel guilty about having afternoon tea there. I had half a mind to tell the proprietor that making his clients feel guilty about his cakes and bubbletea, and exhorting them to talk (what's that?), is not exactly a secret to success in his business. Mack.

  21. Palm Springs is not for everyone. Nor is L.A. I know plenty of New York show biz folk who hate L.A. (a la Woody Allen), and plenty of people who have no interest in desert life (Hollywood history or not). I've talked to several escorts who went to Palm Springs once and opted never to return. From bathhouse to boutique hotel to restaurant to stripper bar: No place can please everyone. And I'm perfectly OK with that. I was introduced to the gay PS scene very early in my career. I was young. A closeted actor and his architect boyfriend took me there my first time. They chose the Riviera because of its history. The actor's boyfriend admired the work of Irwin Schuman. I remember not falling in love with the Riviera, and there were too many families with small children at the pool. But I certainly enjoyed the 15º difference in temperature from L.A., and I found the floral smell of the desert air and the star-filled nights alluring. We returned to the Riviera in 1984 for Sonny Bono's restaurant opening. I have wonderful memories of Sonny. That was my last visit to the Riviera. I know a few gay men from across America who went to PS begrudgingly on business and fell in love with the place. Each called me to say, "The next time you go, please let me know. I would like to join you." I rendezvoused with four of those guys dozens of times in the 1990's and 2000's. We loved to hotel hop, which is why I know so much about the hotel scene. We always had a blast and had no problem hooking up with other handsome, fun men. I made many new friends during my PS visits. I'm still in contact with one couple who live in Amsterdam. I met them at The Triangle Inn with its original owners, Matthew and Kevin, who refused to turn their quaint resort into a bathhouse. The Triangle back then was a wonderful place for gay male couples from around the world to rest, relax, and be romantic, without the concern of 24/7 sex in your face or awful things floating in the Jacuzzi. So for me, Palm Springs means personal memories from a young age. Nothing anyone says about the place will affect those memories. As for the unsightly, rude pissing contest, I think Philadelphia is a great city with terrific people. Historic in every way. A wonderful melting pot of culture and diversity. Where would the music industry be without its musicians from Philly? My late, great, talented friend, Phyllis Hyman, was born and raised in Philly. And as tragic a story that The Barnes Foundation is, it's a must-see for any art enthusiast. Shame on any asshole who uses Philadelphia roots to mock and belittle someone who lives there.

  22. Relationships can be complicated things. One has to assume that some sort of relationship exists, otherwise why on earth would Hermès risk a rash on her neck by wearing a Walmart scarf? I admire controversial friends who come to each others aid. It's not every day a Scarlett Johansson will speak up for a Woody. In this age of Trump, loyalty is just one more dying ideology.
